Numerous specials during the week which vary from the set menu. Everything cooked perfectly. I have two favorite restaurants and the other one is their sister restaurant in Gastonia. Something about Chillfire rubs me the wrong way. Is it the strip mall location? The everything-to-everyone decor? The contradictory name? Yes, all of these things and more. I appreciated the gluten free notations on the menu, at first, until I saw the following footnote: "Gluten free items still may contain natural glutens or ingredients that have natural glutens but we do not add glutenous ingredients to these dishes." Uh, excuse me? Natural glutens? WTF does that mean? I've been living GF for six years and I've yet to hear how a menu item with "natural glutens" can be labeled GF. I'd like to see Chillfire work with a nutritionist to straighten this out. It's confusing and potentially dangerous. The food is pretty decent, if you can get over the strange presentation. The Mozzarella Grille, for example, is wrapped in wilted romaine and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. It makes for one hell of an ugly plate. If my date hadn't had this appetizer before and raved about it, the plating alone would have turned me off. Turns out, it's very tasty. I had a similar issue with my scallops; they're served swimming in a pink and gray sauce. To this day, I don't know what exactly that was. I know it appeared unappetizing, but the flavor was nice. Chillfire would be a solid four stars from me if it weren't for the unfortunate plating and misleading GF menu. The service was excellent. The decor, like I mentioned, is all over the place. Part beachy seafood vibe, part Rainforest Cafe, part upscale steakhouse. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't make a special trip. read more

Overall, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. This, coupled with the professionalism of their staff, made for a wonderful night. Coming from New York, none of us were expecting the high caliber of service we received, but we were very appreciative. Our server Genesis was so incredibly professional, polite and organized. She nimbly navigated the tough terrain that was our rowdy 6-person party. The food was phenomenal. We ordered shrimp scampi, filet mignon, Shanghai shrimp tacos, the spicy filet and shrimp special and the crab cakes. The creamer spinach was so incredibly good, it was like a hot bowl of spinach and artichoke dip. Even the slaw that came with th shrimp tacos had a wonderful vinegar dressing. The only subpar thing was their truffle oil fries, which definitely should've been hotter and more flavorful. We all enjoyed our meals and were stuffed by the end! Everything was reasonably priced (especially the drinks!) which was a nice change from NY. We came for a date night dinner and it was fantastic! Ribeye and ribs we had were great, and the creme brûlée was too. Sierra was our waitress tonight and she did a phenomenal job. After many visits over the years, I have determined that Chillfires drinks, salads and appetizers are very good. The service is outstanding and Brock was super. But I am always disappointed in the entrees. Our last visit we sent 2 entrees back. Bland, small portions that not only didn't look good they tasted like a frozen dinner with the same frozen dinner sauces, no kidding aside, Golden Corral is much better. They know better and I should have. This has been going on for years so I have to assume that is how it is going to be. I was not going to go back after my last dinner there but due to circumstances we went back. It's really upsetting when you know better and then do it again and you get similar results. My wife and I love the appetizers, wine pours are generous. It's like there are 2 different kitchens. I was surprised that the dining room was not full at 6:30 on Friday night. By the way my wife had NC Trout, small, thin and didn't look like trout. Her first comment was "where is it". I had the Marsala chicken, 2 small pieces of chicken, almost tenderloin size. Breaded, with a gelatinous sauce poured over them that looked canned, with a few small whole mushrooms layed on top, again looked like they were straight from a can. Waiting for food....30 minutes later. Filet is more like a ribeye unless you order the flight. Waitress took forever with a refill of water, and barely said 2 words to us. At the table behind us, she was friendly, told specials, soups of the day, etc. We had plans of having a full course meal, dessert included, but are contemplating it due to poor service and bland flavor. Had a very nice dinner date here. The ambiance was cozy and the booth was quiet enough to hear ourselves talk. We had the calamari fritti, short rib, New York steak and key lime pie for dessert. Everything was the perfect temp and well seasoned and the service was perfect. One thing of note that I wanted to point out is that their tea service was on point which is rare anywhere, even in fine restaurants - they had Revolution tea pyramids - you could pick your flavor, and the water was boiling hot. My favorite restaurant in the Charlotte area, I continue to go back there because of the consistency of food and service. The wait staff is always experienced and knowledgeable about the menu offerings. Management is always visible and checks with patrons to solicit their feedback.
