Have eaten there three different times, all a disappointment. First visit had the prime rib, microwaved served with an ice cold au jus. Second visit had crab cakes served raw seemed it never touched the flattop. Three visit had the ribs, ordered a full rack, again microwaved tough and covered in a bbq sauce that was awful so bad I wouldn't even take them home after eating a couple bites. Service was good. We love Safari. Their prime rib is great for the price. The only thing I'd change to really put you up there please serve real butter! That whip margarine garbage has just gotta go. Please serve real olive oil when customers ask for olive oil. You serve something that is absolutely not olive oil. Olive oil is so much healthier and it would just taste so much better. Was there today. Saw a former owner manager sitting at a 4 top by himself in the bar leisurely eating on his phone. Obviously not working. A BAD look on a Sunday after church lunch crowd with people standing outside waiting for a table. TV was blasting the Panthers. This is not a sports bar, Sunday after church crowd. Should tone it down a lot. My SERVER was excellent and he's been there a long time. Speaks well of him and the management. I ordered soup, used to be complimentary with a meal, now .99 cents. Ok fine. Quality way down. Used to be a Chucky cheesy potato soup. This stuff tastes like out of a can and nasty. Hot sauce could not help it. Sent it back. I got London Broil. Ordered medium came out well done. Sent it back and ordered medium well and got medium. lol. Cant win with the kitchen-- but was edible and good taste. Except it was tough. I left at least half of it on my plate after chewing and spitting it out. Would still be chewing if I tried to eat it. They used to be tender, I got it here before, so they are buying a cheaper cut or not cleaning it correct. So HELLO cheap cut use meat tenderizer. I was really confused what the theme was walking in. The name safari made me think jungle but then it is a lot of random knickknacks and trinkets from decades before. I thought it was curious but was confused on the core identity. The main dictator was the live band that was honestly pretty good. Food itself was just okay but the dessert that is a slice of banana pudding cheesecake was amazing. Waitress was also fine nothing crazy. A number of years ago, even before we moved to Trilogy in Denver, we had dined at this restaurant a couple of times and it really was nothing to write home about. However, since we moved here, this is one of our normal Sunday Brunch spots and it had gotten to the point, that I should have upgraded my rating to probably a 4 Star. That is, until today. Normally we'll get a nice cup of hot potato soup to start with. The soup was just shy of being totally cold. Tepid at best. If I had wanted Vichyssoise, I would have ordered Vichyssoise. This is the reason we no longer patronize FATZ in Lincolnton because the soup is never hot. It gets worse. I ordered County Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Gravy with Fried Okra. All were lute warm at best. My wife had the Beef Tips and along with Okra and guess what, the same results. She did ask the server to take it back to the kitchen and throw it into the and heat it up. As for myself, I asked for a to go box and took it home and threw in the microwave to get it to the proper temperature. As for the rating, based on today's performance, I going to leave it at 2 stars. Big disappointment. read more

We love ordering The fried mushrooms as appetizer where ever we go and they were soooo good here, not greasy at all and my husband ordered the Cajun Alfredo pasta and it was sooo good! I cannot even express my frustration. We called to reserve a reservation because we needed special accommodations due to a health condition. When we arrived we were asked if a high top table was ok. When we called we told them where we would like to be seated (they even asked). I told them and their response was they had unexpected people show up. Went for impromptu dinner with a party of six. Seated promptly and server, Walker, was Johnny on the spot for beverage orders. Menu is pretty broad and seemingly attempts to be a Jack of All Trades. Wings and Calamari ordered for appetizers to share. Saw little bread boards going to other tables. We weren't offered and frankly would not have taken it. Calamari was very good, served with marinara. lots of tentacles and easily shareable sized. Wings ordered extra crispy with sauce on the side. Nicely done. Salads arrived. We all chose Caesar. Larger than average side salad was overdressed. Croutons Crispy. Mains arrived and beef dishes were clear winners with prime rib getting the most positive votes. Pork Chops had nice grill marks, were juicy and a little too salty. Thinner than expected. Loser was veal piccata. Very lemony with lots of capers but drowned in a brown sauce, that I would characterize as gravy. just not right. The single piece of veal wasn't tender nor pounded thinly enough. A disappointment. Side of pasta was average at best. A sirloin steak was tasted by all and got high marks for flavor and tenderness. Service was great. Staff friendly. No room for desserts. Total for six was $220 before tip. Overall, Five stars for beef entrees. Others average. Will return. read more

Was meeting up with old friends from out of town. Since we were all coming from different directions, a friend found this online and it was in the middle for all of us. We gave SM a shot and I'm glad we did. Inside was busy and loud so we opted to sit outside. Our waitress was very accommodating and food and drinks were delicious. It is often dim and loud in here which I don't care for. The staff has always been good. My biggest complaint is the food; it doesn't seem consistent. Sometimes the food is good and sometimes it is pretty bad. It's hard to pick this place to eat when you are hungry and it's a toss up if you will end up eating your meal or not. i absolutely love this restaurant and everything about it! BUT i NEED the manager to see this. whoever has trained these hostesses to literally RUN away from the guest when they are seating someone is crazy. i have worked in restaurants since i was 16 and the one thing i alwayd learned was to ALWAYS stick by the customers side and make sure to keep looking back every couple seconds to make sure they are with you. my mom who can't walk and uses a cane every single time we come in they sit us at the very back table in the back of the restaurant and the hostess doesnt think twice or look back to see if we even know where she's going. read more

I love this place, it feels locally owned and the food is real. What I mean by real food is that it's made with real ingredients not that nasty bar food aka sports page (sorry not sorry). Me and my friends always come here they have music on Fridays and bar is always packed, the people watching is amazing lol. Nice place with reasonable prices and quality is a priority, you will see the manager walking around checking in on the bar and kitchen. We visited Safari Miles on Thursday for the 2 for $30 Special. I must say, I was very pleased with the food and service. The ambiance was nothing out of the ordinary. We arrived early to avoid the anticipated crowd and glad we did. The restaurant filled quickly from around 6 PM. By the time we finished our meal, it was hard to have a conversation. We, both, had a Filet Mignon with baked potato, side and a salad. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the potato was soft and fluffy. The salad lacked some items that, normally, make up a salad such as cucumbers and cheese. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive to our needs. The manager came by the table to check on the service and our thoughts on the food. I gave a 5 Star rating, mainly, because of the Special Menu offer. It's such a great deal for the price. I, highly, recommend Safari Miles to anyone wanting a great meal at a very reasonable price. read more

Denver, NC has experienced incredible growth in recent years -- and I speculate (though I'm not certain) Safari Miles may have been caught unprepared for the deluge of folks ready to take off "on safari." The rather cozy, well-appointed restaurant is tucked back into a little strip mall on the side of highway 16, with plenty of room for parking. I rather expected a bit more from the jungle theme inside -- a few taxidermied animals hinted at what could be a real treat if developed a little more thoroughly. My experience waiting at the front desk was unacceptable -- not so much for the length of time that passed before I was seated (about 14 minutes), but for the complete lack of acknowledgement for majority of that time. After my time in suppertime purgatory had passed, I was reluctantly greeted with indignation that I should wish to dine out, alone, on a Thursday night. [Point taken.] Fortunately Gabby, the pleasant waitress who took my order, had none of the surliness of the front desk. She was warm and informative and a delight. It seemed, however, that the Safari Miles was short-staffed that particular Thursday evening, however. The bread and salad that came first were delicious. The dressings, I understand, are all house-made and the bread is as well. (Though the butter had a note of clove in it that I didn't particularly care for.) The steak was cooked to perfection and served with a side of tasty mac & cheese. The cheesecake that followed was equally delicious. All of he FOOD at Safari Miles was all "en pointe". Prices are excellent and serving sizes appropriate. It seems the back-of-the-house and the front-of-the-house here are managed with different philosophies. This dichotomy shows, badly, in the dining experience. There is a large and well-stocked bar here for those Papa Hemmingways with a taste for adult beverages, and a cooler stocked full of yummy-looking desserts. Before posting my own review, I read those of others. A consistent observation I found is: Safari Miles was once grand but has now become just so-so. While I cannot speak to its former "glory days," I'd have to agree -- right now, dinner at Safari Miles is just so-so. BUT -- and this is a Big Ol' Wildebeest BUTT -- there is PLENTY OF ROOM for fast and rapid improvement in service. (. . . and pith helmets, witch doctors, and more than a few exotic animal carcasses.) Better attention to the front door (perhaps a better staffing strategy altogether) would go a long way towards ameliorating things. I would've happily paid a little more for "better" -- but please, tackle the "better" before asking customers for more. I loved the food and the concept -- and hope Safari Miles will come "back from the hunt" soon with better game. PS.
