As a grad student at LSU, this is a prime spot we eat after class or grabbing drinks. It's patio upstairs as a cool view of parts of the city and has awesome variety of seating types. I haven't been to Chimes in years, not because it's not good but because I always find it packed when I try to go. However, I finally was able to go during lunch on a weekday where it was not packed at all. I'm so glad that I got to go back because everything I got was super delicious. I was in the mood for a poboy so I ordered a classic fried shrimp poboy and it did not disappoint! The bread went perfectly with the fried shrimp as well as the amount of toppings they put on it. Their fries were super crispy and I enjoyed them so much. I also split a spinach dip with my friend and I can't lie that I was nervous about getting it. The last time I went, the pasta was super hard as if they hadn't been cooked all the way through, but this time they were perfect! Just a drizzle of gravy on the chicken & biscuits. $12.00 I tried to order more gravy three times. Never receive it. Then I ordered an extra Biscuit and gravy. $10.00 Got a 2 Biscuits and again a drizzle of gravy. Ask for hash browns they no longer serve hash browns during brunch. I finely got my bill and I was charged for extra gravy I never received. It's not like it use to be. If your a local don't bother its realy for out of town quest that don't know better. Every time I've been to this chimes it's been a less than average experience. Went a few days ago and my salad had literally one half of a grape tomato and 2 croutons. The server told me it would be an up charge if I wanted more. It's just always weird service here. Came here with a group of 9. This was our first time here off of a recommendation from a friend. The atmosphere was dark, dive bar style. It reminds me of a college hang out spot with elevated food. It probably is just that since LSU is right there. I just wish I had more light to see the menu. The food....I had fried and blackened alligator, fried pickles, blackened salmon with steamed veggies. The alligator served both ways was delicious along with the dips. The pickles were amazing! The salmon was good but it was not cooked to the right temperature requested. Unfortunately, that is a big pet peeve of mine. I like my salmon at a glossy juicy medium temperature. My came back well done and after all 8 persons in my group received their food. Came here for the first time the other day. I was in town for work and my best friend lives here and she took me out and her first choice was Chimes! We went on the patio and it was super cozy. We got several appetizers, the crawfish pasta, crawfish fries, and mozzarella logs. They were amazing. My friend and I got the chocolate martinis and they were SO GOOD. Music was great, our waitress was really friendly. I liked it so much, I recommended it to my colleagues to go to! After only being there once too! Great place. They tacked on 20% extra gratuities for our infant who did not even order a meal but had little pieces from our plates. When I confronted the situation our waitress had the manager (Abby) come out to tell us we needed to pay the extra gratuities regardless of her being an infant and not even ordering food for her. This place is still great and I still love it, but fyi there have been some changes. They removed the fried crawfish salad and fried pickles from the menu which were staples, as well as changed what the steak burger is dressed with. They changed the recipe for the bbq shrimp poboy... it's good enough, but not the same. When I talked to them about why they made these changes they said it was because the pickles weren't actually good, and that I can still get those other things just by asking. I.e. you can get crawfish added to a salad (but not the same salad) and you can ask for your steak burger to have different stuff on it. I tried the praline espressotini from their new cocktail menu and it was really gross, way way too sweet but also watery at the same time. I'm still gonna keep coming and order the spin dip and steak burger and get great service but I don't think it's quite the same anymore in a lot of ways. Etouffee is excellent, but members in my party said their burgers were "so-so". Coffee is cold. The restaurant is lovely and spacious, but there's no way to socially distance if you need to. Our server was wearing a mask properly the whole time; he was SO nice and SO slow, bless his heart. Another server passing us often kept pulling his mask down, though, and most of the time it was just on his chin. It was really concerning and gross. Kind of made me wonder about the staff in the back of the house and the restaurant's policies with other safety and cleanliness things so we won't be back. read more

Was visiting Baton Rouge after a family trip to New Orleans. A friend of my son recommended it as she was an LSU grad and frequented the place while she was there. Place was pretty cool inside with multiple levels, the woodwork, flags, and windows that were cool. The food menu had a good variety of options and everything we ordered was good. The beer menu was fantastic! I can see why this is a staple for college students. We only sampled a few of the local brews and they were good. The best part was our waiter, Coop! He was awesome. Just a laid back, have a beer with, type of guy. They were having issues with one of the kegs that my wife wanted a beer of and he kept coming over giving us updates. Finally he suggested a similar local beer and it was great. His whole attitude was just great. I'd recommend this place and if you can get Coop as a waiter then that would be a bonus! read more

Another great meal at the Chimes! For appetizers, we ordered the boudin egg rolls and the fried mozzarella. This was my first time trying the boudin egg rolls and I absolutely loved them! They came with a sweet chili sauce that was delicious. If you like boudin, then you have to try these. The fried mozzarella balls were also very good as usual. The Chimes recently changed their menu taking off some things and adding new ones. I was shocked and sad to see that they removed the fried pickles from their menu. This was one of my favorite appetizers. Please bring them back! For entrees, we ordered the chicken fried chicken and a burger. As always, the burger and fries were great. The chicken fried chicken is a new item on their menu and it was outstanding. I'm glad it is now on their daily menu and not just a weekly special. The chicken fried chicken came with mac & cheese and bread. The chicken was very tender and fried perfectly. It was a little on the salty side but expected since it was fried. You do have the option to sub your side for something other than the mac & cheese and I'll definitely do that next time. I usually like the mac & cheese at the Chimes but this time it was just too greasy. It also didn't have much pasta underneath the top layer of cheese. The thing about Chimes is that it's not consistent enough. I've gone times where everything was perfect, then times where I ordered literally the exact same things from the first time and had to send items back. I will say their pork chops w/ root beer glaze, are everything! I absolutely love them and get them almost every time. I also love their spinach dip but have made the decision to swap out the fried farfalle noodles for bread or tortilla chips from now on. Sometimes they're fried perfectly and aren't too crisp and other times I feel like I might chip a tooth. I like their mac and cheese, also. Now, their gumbo....you can leave that alone for sure. Their drinks are pretty good and they accommodate mid-size parties well but half of your group has to be there. As far as bathrooms, it's a one stall for men and a one stall for women so hopefully, you don't have to go too badly. I've never been on their rooftop, but I hear it's great. read more

This Chimes location is closest to my house and LSU. It's not as busy as the other Chimes location as far as I can tell. Their rooftop bar is awesome even though there isn't much of a view. It's still refreshing to sit outside sometimes. The food here is pretty good and consistent. Their seafood gumbo is delicious. It's almost the best in town. It's mild and seasoned very well. The seafood gumbo does have okra and oysters in it. If you don't like seafood gumbo, I think they have other gumbo and soup as well. Their beer menu is very long. They have craft beers and imported beers too. This place--especially the rooftop--is the perfect place to chill and have a drink with your friends. The other Chimes location is nicer and more modern, but this one is litty too. read more

They have an EXTENSIVE beer list, so if you're looking for a drink this is a good option. Here's what I tried: Catfish Perdu: one-word SALTY! The dish was really salty and I was so thirsty after the meal. The catfish was okay, and the sauce kind of dominates the dish with the catfish just for texture. I really like coming to chimes for dinner and a drink with friends. I think their food is very good and their portions are pretty large. Their spinach dip is served with fried farfalle pasta chips and is so so good I find myself going back for just that. I also had the crawfish etouffee and was pleasantly surprised with how much crawfish theee was in it.
