We stopped here per a friend's rec on our way through Baton Rouge and I'm so glad we did!! The shrimp etoufee was so well seasoned and the serving size was huge. The catfish was also so tender and the lemon seasoning was incredible. We chose Mac and cheese as the side for the platter and it was the best Mac I've had in a while (bbq places included). It wasn't super Melty velveeta cheese like some other places, but there was definitely enough cheese and the crust on top gives it a nice texture. Chimes is such a college vibe, but it's also absolutely delicious! For starters you are missing out if you don't get the spinach and artichoke dip. Not only is the dip absolutely delicious it comes with fried bow tie pasta noodles as the "chip" to dip the food in! The blackened alligator, and boudin are also delicious! My favorite unique item at Chimes is the boudin omelet! So good. But their poboys and sandwiches are delicious. The bbq shrimp is also not bad! the restaurant can be loud and always busy, but it's a great time. They also renovated the restaurant a few years back so it's got more of a modern feel now. read more

While on a work trip, we were provided the recommendation to grab dinner at The Chimes. The menu is fairly robust and has quite a lot of options. The restaurant feels like college bar than a restaurant. You can definitely tell this is a campus hang out our server was very friendly and helpful, providing several recommendations. We took him up on his appetizer recommendations and got the sautéed crab fingers and boudin egg rolls. Boudin egg rolls were decent, but especially with the sauce from the crab fingers. I think if I were to get the crab fingers again I'd get them fried. I got the NOLA bbq shrimp with a side salad for my entree. The salad was nearly as big as the shrimp plate, but very underwhelming with white lettuce. I was expecting the shrimp to be a bigger and with more spice. The fish was quite salty to me and had too much sauce. I also was not a fan of the fried grits it came with; unfortunately when I'd ordered I was told they were not able to substitute the grits for rice so I was stuck with them. All in all I can't say I would return to Chimes but I'm glad to have gotten the LSU experience under my belt read more

One of the best parts of my job is getting to meet my clients, trying the local cuisine, the flavors of other cultures and of course dishes you can't get anywhere else. This was easily one of the best restaurants I was able to visit on my short trip. Our waiter was kind enough to let us try a crawfish bisque (that is not the actual name). It was so good I'm still thinking about it! Some at the table ordered a bowl I didn't because I was too excited to try some other dishes. We ordered for the table alligator, hush puppies, boudin balls, and crawfish loaded French fries. This was my first time trying alligator it was really good. The hush puppies were very nice but my favorite the loaded French fries covered in crawfish OMG that dish was amazing! For my main course I ordered the Mahi special which was a nice change from fried and was fresh, really well seasoned and balanced. The red beans and rice was a nice compliment to the fish. The manager here is totally un professional. Today I ordered the shrimp and grits meal at this location, it was extremely salty. After eating about 3 shrimp I alerted the waiter and instead of the manager taking the meal off the ticket she provided a $5 discount which is less than 1/4 of the cost of the meal. The problem here is... I didnt eat 25% of the meal. Her exclaimation was, if she had charged me for 3 shrimp and the side salad (consisted of only lettuce, a few tomatoes and croutons, which I did not eat either because it had too much dressing and the lettuce was slightly brown) the meal would have been atleast $25 dollars! How does that make sense shrimp and grits meal with the salad is $22? This is extremely poor customer service. She could clearly see the food on the plate was barley touched and while my family packed their leftovers, I did not because the meal was not eatable. I feel sort of bad for the waiter because the $20 tip that would have gone to him went towards the meal I did not eat. My advice is...DO NOT EAT AT THIS LOCATION. read more

Dined here last night with my cousin and father after they came came to visit me here at school. Our service overall was okay besides the fact that we were served the wrong pitcher of beer (said some mango stuff on the receipt, my dad asked for Heineken). Because they ended up finishing the pitcher, i didn't complain. They obviously didn't enjoy it though lol. My second issue was that i ordered a cup of duck sausage gumbo to come out before my shrimp platter. Our server forgot that my meal came with salad, so i was surprised when I got one too, instead of my gumbo. She apologized and said there was a miscommunication when it was brought out with my main course. Mistakes happen, i just asked for it to be boxed up to go and they did. I accidentally left that separate bag from the rest of our left overs and didn't realize until tonight. Unfortunately, i kind of feel sour about my visit after speaking with the manager just now. I kindly asked would it be a problem if i come and pick up a fresh cup of gumbo. I thought it was worth a try being that that didn't happen because of us, but because they brought it out too late. I figured they might say no, but that's okay too. She sounded puzzled and told me she didn't know how she would track that (i didn't know it was that serious lol). She sarcastically went on to say they remove things from the table pretty fast as if i didn't say i dined the night before. Her last remark was "you're welcome to order some now if you like" with an all of a sudden enthusiastic tone after i repeatedly told her it was fine. I should've just asked them to take it off the ticket. It doesn't feel good to tip well over 20% and be met with incompetent management. The food was great tho! read more

My brother took me here to eat because he's always had good food here. I definitely agree, the food was amazing! There was tons of seating and a fun vibe, all the employees seemed happy. We sat outside out the roof, and it was even better than inside. My bro & I had the biscuits and fried chicken and it was delicious. I ate every bite. We did have to send my brothers plate back because it had a hair. We asked for it to be re-plated but they remade the entire meal. Due to this, we were done our food when my brother finally got his. They make a ball of grits and cook them. Then they added crawfish etouffee and I was in heaven. My QR code on my phone and I couldn't look at the bar menu but I did get a beer. I was in town for a work conference, and desperately wanted Crawfish Étouffée. I had just gone to see Mike the Tiger and searched for food options nearby. Chimes came up, and I realized it was a 15-minute walk. The reviews were raving, so I was sold. I arrived 5 minutes prior to opening, and even though I was dining alone, I sat upstairs on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day. Visited Chimes on a Friday night of a game weekend. Naturally, it was busy but we were able to be seated fairly quickly. Came in with some friends and we wanted to try multiple things so we shared the blackened gator, boudin balls, and crawfish Mac n cheese. While everything was delicious, the winner of the night was the blackened gator. The horseradish sauce pairs excellently with it and thankfully isn't too strong. Our server, Louis, was fantastic! Was very attentive and didn't make us feel rushed at all as we looked through the menu in depth being that it was our first time. There are plenty of TVs everywhere and there are large windows that make it a great people watching place even if you're not seated outside on the patio.
