We went to the Chimes in Lafayette Friday, December 1 to celebrate my nephew's birthday. There was 10 of us total. When the server came to deliver my salad, she hit my head with the tray and the salad then spilled into in my hair, down my back & in my purse, She said nothing! I brought our waitress' attention to it. She then went to verify my story by observing it on the video camera, and came back to let me know she had seen what happened. Everyone in our party got their food, but I had to wait an extra 15 minutes since there was apparently a problem with my sandwich--I ordered the T-Bird. I'm so sorry, but my husband and I were just confused about what all the hype is. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but our meal was not good. The service was great and the vibe was really cool though. I got a spinach salad with blackened shrimp and pepper jelly vinaigrette. The salad was just spinach leaves with half of a boiled egg and shrimp. It was nothing special..but here was my biggest turn off. The shrimp wasn't deveined. And if it was just a little vein, then I would've been more forgiving but the veins were HUGE and really disgusting (I'm not being dramatic, I posted a picture) . I ended up removing them myself. The shrimp actually tasted good, but I just got too grossed out to finish them. My husband got a burger and the burger was extremely over done and burnt so he didn't finish it. The Mac and cheese was pretty good-not amazing but not bad either. We are obviously in the minority here since this place has rave reviews so maybe we came at a bad time, but we probably won't be back again given our underwhelming experience. read more

We are visiting here for a soc cer tournament. One of the parents suggested that we try this place which turned out to be a great idea. We were a very large group but it didn't take them long to seat us. 2 of us were running behind but they didn't hesitate to sit them close to us. Though we had one waitress, she was great with handling our section. She really provided exceptional service and I'm sad that I can't remember her name. I ordered the stuffed shrimp which came with French fries , hush puppies and a Caesar salad. The salad was very good. One of the best salads that I've had in a while. The stuffed shrimp were superb! They were cooked perfectly and their stuffing recipe is to die for. I've had my share of stuffed shrimp and these are definitely top 3. I couldn't eat them all. Hush puppies were good. Sweet. Cooked perfectly. The Poboy was delicious. The shrimp were big and fried hard. The suave was delicious. My husband couldn't eat the whole thing and he's a big guy. The size is great! The drinks - we had margaritas that were sooooo good. They high as hell tho. $16 and it wasn't a big glass. Now that's what I didn't like lol. Lucky they were good otherwise I would've been pissed about that price They have a shot called the cambuka or something like that which everyone at the table went crazy over! No issues when it came to all of our individual tickets. She was super nice and personable. Very efficient. So again. I'm a little upset that I can't remember the waitress' name. This place is a staple in town. I was told to go for happy hour and It didn't disappoint. The place gets busy quick, but it doesn't affect the service one bit. Our waiter was on point. Half priced oysters on the half shell for happy hour. Presentation is that of a dingy dive bar (I love dive bars!!) nothing fancy happening here, just really good food on a plate. We had the boudin balls (first timer here) they were absolutely amazing.. word to the wise let those suckers cool off before chomping them down. Lagniappe cakes- absolutely amazing. A mix of seafood and crab! Love the sweet light crispy hush puppies! The Angus steak is just average for $25. I got catfish perdu which was huge with 4 pieces of fish with etoufee on top! Delish but no sides. Ordered side of sweet potato fries which was enough for 4 people. Steak came with side salad which was just a plate of lettuce a few mini tomatoes and croutons. Food, drinks, and ambiance do not disappoint at this favored local establishment immediately outside of LSU's gates. My favorite appetizers are the blackened alligator and crawfish fries. The fried alligator spinach salad with pepper jelly vinaigrette is incredibly fresh and flavorful. It's the perfect lunch dish. I thoroughly enjoyed day drinking at their rooftop bar, which is an incredible space for relaxing and people watching. It's equipped with ceiling fans and heat lamps, so it's comfortable all year-round. I can only imagine how electric the rooftop would be during game days. This place is always a hit. During LSU' season or anytime. They added a new rooftop deck with us cool, it over looks highland road. I been several times. Went for a a big dinner the other night. Chime is a long time restaurant just outside the gate of LSU. It is located next to the Varsity cinema. They actually own that cinema. Sister company of Parrain's Seafood. A lot of high hope for this restaurant next to the university. This is very much university bar and restaurant. We love to get the experience with the student which brought back the memories I was the student here. The only thing I would said some of the item they not going to serve to to current regulations on the crab crawls. We have order the blacken Louisiana Alligator Tail and the special of the day crab cake for start. The gator tail certainly tasty but I think it need to be bigger pieces. The crab cake is great. Love the two appetizers. The entrée I have the charbroiled catfish and top with the BBQ shrimp. The catfish is good with the way it cook. However the BBQ shrimp is average. They can be better. Some shrimp shell is soft and not hard after cook. Service is average. However the close up is good and fast. I like the bar atmosphere. read more

We came in with a large group (14) on a Thursday night, so let the hostesses know they could break us up any way they needed to of that would help with seating. After about an hour wait, 5 of us sat at the bar and about 10 minutes later the remainder of the group was seated. So glad we sat at the bar because Alexis was outstanding! She makes a great cocktail! Swamp bucket is my new favorite! And she was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great suggestions! The crab fingers and the bread pudding still have me salivating! Chimes cane highly recommended by a LSU alum. They provided a great atmosphere for my group of 8. We arrived around 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon and were promptly seated. Service was swift and our server was knowledgeable and considerate. We were in town for the Louisiana Marathon and half the group went with local cuisine and others went safe and healthy. Well, I went healthy and ordered the Pasta Grazi with shrimp. Needless to say, it was kinda bland. My husband and friend were happy with the red beans & rice. The alligator was a big hit too. If your looking for a great location to have some genuine creole / Cajun food in a elevated pub style establishment then look no further. Something on the menu for everyone's- spicy to super spicy- meaty to vegan. Service was great and had a nice "view". The food was well seasoned (except Boudan balls). As a visitor to Baton Rouge, several locals told me to go to this place. It did not disappoint! I loved the pub-like atmosphere it has, and the food certainly did not disappoint. I came on a Tuesday weeknight and managed to find a spot at the bar around 6:30. It was already getting crowded, so it was nice to just walk straight to the bar. The staff was very friendly and greeted me with a smile, especially when I told them I was a first-timer. I was also surprised how much beer they had on tap, and loved the selection. I received several recommendations, and settled on a "Featured" item recommended by my server, the Boudin Stuffed Bell Peppers. This came with Mac and cheese, a roll, and a side salad all for $13! The Boudin was delicious, and the Mac and cheese was some of best I've ever had-it had a little kick to it and I loved it. The roll even was super soft and actually very tasty as well! I couldn't believe how good the food was for the price, and the service was nice too. My only complaint was when it gets crowded, it gets crowded. It's very noisy so you have been warned that you may not be able to hear the person next to you if you sit at the bar. Other than that, awesome place!! Came here with a group of 9. This was our first time here off of a recommendation from a friend. The atmosphere was dark, dive bar style. It reminds me of a college hang out spot with elevated food. It probably is just that since LSU is right there. I just wish I had more light to see the menu. The food....I had fried and blackened alligator, fried pickles, blackened salmon with steamed veggies. The alligator served both ways was delicious along with the dips. The pickles were amazing! The salmon was good but it was not cooked to the right temperature requested. Unfortunately, that is a big pet peeve of mine. I like my salmon at a glossy juicy medium temperature. My came back well done and after all 8 persons in my group received their food. Chimes has always been a favorite of mine! Both locations are great and I've been traveling. I was pumped for eating their brunch while I was in town. My friend requested we meet at Coursey location. BE WARNED they haven't been serving brunch for months @coursey apparently. They do serve brunch @highland though. Worst experience in Baton Rouge. I frequent Chimes East so I mistakenly assumed Chimes West (this location) offered the same service and GOOD food. Boy, was I wrong. I know for a fact that I'll never return to this location. Was told the Crab Royale wasn't available, although they had it yesterday, so settled for the Crawfish Royale. Definitely not what was delivefed: dry crawfish and mushrooms dumped onto the wet looking salmon. I returned it to be fixed, but it came back just as bad. No refills on drinks and table not cleared. I'd give it zero stars, if possible. read more
