    BBQ SHRIMP POBOY

Redemption! After a bad experience at The Chimes east, I decided to give the DT and original location a chance. I was not disappointed. The BBQ Shrimp Po Boy hit the spot and renewed my faith the Baton Rouge staple. I can now highly recommend this location specifically and I'll definitely return!

The food was great! I've been twice in a weeks time lol. I ordered the boat load seafood platter with catfish, shrimp, stuffed shrimp, a stuffed potato, Caesar salad, hush puppies, boudin egg rolls, and more! The service was a bit slow but the food made up for it. The vibe is casual to formal dining. Great for a business lunch stop or dinner. Wouldn't recommend for quick lunch breaks, may be best to order to go/online.

Let me start by saying that I came to this establishment around 9pm for a late dinner after work. I checked the reviews before I arrived but was a bit disappointed as it did not live up to the ratings. The Food was good, not great. The service was awful honestly. keep in mind this restaurant is on a college campus so expect a kids serving you in tank tops and boy shorts. The spinach dip itself was good but the bow tie pasta "chips" were sad and couldn't hold the dip.

Waited 2 hours on game day for a table. It was worth the wait. We people watched and went shopping across the street. Food is excellent here. It's really good. Service is really good too. I love their atmosphere and ambiance. Great place. Highly recommend.

Had a great experience at The Chimes Restaurant. The food here is seriously outstanding. I've tried a wide range of things on the menu, and honestly, everything has been consistently amazing. You really can't go wrong no matter what you order. One of the highlights has to be the platters - huge portions and packed with variety (see photo). Definitely come hungry. The atmosphere is also a big part of what makes this place special. It has that classic student energy being so close to LSU - lively, fun, and always buzzing. Just keep in mind that it can get pretty busy because of that, especially during peak times. Overall, this is one of those places that just delivers every time: great food, great portions, and a great vibe.

    Blackened Fish and Jambalaya

I ordered the blackened fish with jambalaya and sautéed spinach. It came with a Caesar salad. Everything was absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, making the visit even better. We came during the LSU Florida game and still had great service. It's a really nice spot to catch the game.

The food was classic! The service was great and friendly. The ambiance was a warm summer night in August. Slight, very slight breeze. Enjoying Baton Rouge Louisiana for the very first time.

My friend recommended this restaurant while I was in Baton Rouge we took a Lyft from the Hilton downtown for about $12. It was a great decision to get out of downtown and see the LSU district. Scotty was our server and he was absolutely wonderful! "I've got you" was his famous saying and he certainly did! He had the best smile and giggle! They had many beers on tap and happy to let you taste a few! They had the best crab and Brie soup I've never had anything like it! We tried the Boulin Balls, very interesting sausage and rice with a little kick! We split the Chicken Fried Steak which came with MAC & Cheese and a side garden salad! The entree was $13 and huge portions. It was a steal! The whole bill with a couple beers $38. What a great rooftop and awesome staff looking after you! Highly recommend this place and you know why.... they've been in business since the 80's and they rock!!!

    fried catfish poboy

Meal: 1) salmon sandwich w/t chicken/sausage jambalaya, 2) fried catfish po-boy, red beans & rice w/t sausage, fries PROS: all of the food listed above tasted good, not outrageously good, but... just good. I would get it all again. Portion sizes & price, acceptable. Wait service, very good. CONS: the host girl sat us on the bar side, by ourselves. It was kinda early so we thought... just empty. After eating I walked to the other side of the restaurant which was 60% full. We were perplexed. Bottom line... we did not like that at all!

The best things about chimes are the rooftop and the appetizers. Order a bunch for the table and make it a meal!

The Chimes was always one my favorite restaurants to frequent while attending LSU in the 1990s. It has gone through quite a few changes over the years, including a major expansion. The look and feel is like I remember. Cozy, yet room for an astounding amount of LSU revelers. A "Cheers" atmosphere. It has been quite awhile since eating here, and I was happy to see that much of what I remember and loved still remains including their menu items. Today, I ordered a Fried Shrimp Poboy and it must've been good or I was really hungry, because I wolfed it right down. Another favorite of mine has always been the Fried Alligator appetizer. It's almost a meal in itself (if you don't share). My server couldn't have been better. Friendly, attentive, and never left me wanting or waiting.

    Boudin balls

Great service, great atmosphere, and even better food. I ordered the boudin balls, and they came hot and tasty with a sauce that reminded me of a very subtle hot mustard or horseradish based sauce. Delicious. I then ordered the New Orleans BBQ shrimp PO-Boy and it was delicious. Very generous with the shrimp and good sizing of the sandwich as well as portion of the fries. Large selection of beer as well. Highly recommend to stop by!

I had a very upsetting experience at Mother's Lounge during pub quiz night…read more I am autistic. I arrived late, did not have a team, and was standing alone in the corner trying to be unobtrusive. There was a small stage with a folding table where the quiz host was asking questions. Between questions, music would play while people wrote down answers, and I was singing along quietly. Staff told me to move away from the stage, and I did. Then they told me I was not allowed to sing along with the songs between questions and called it disruptive. The situation escalated from there. The context matters. This was a bar that does karaoke regularly, and there was already a loud song playing between quiz questions while people were writing down answers. I was singing along to music that was already in the room, not trying to interrupt the quiz or perform over anyone. I also stood as far away from the quiz participants as I could without going outside, and when I sang louder than softly, I turned toward the wall/corner because I was trying not to project into the room. Maybe the sound carried more than I realized, but my intention and my behavior were not careless or hostile. When I became visibly upset, they threatened to call the police if I did not leave immediately. I said I needed five minutes to gather myself and my belongings. They refused and told me I had to leave right then or they would call the cops. That is when I raised my voice. I understand venues have rules. But there is a big difference between enforcing rules and escalating an overwhelmed disabled customer who is trying to comply. This was humiliating and frightening, and I hope ownership takes disability awareness and de-escalation seriously.
