I've been looking for a new Chinese place and thought I would give this one a try. The egg drop soup looked delicious. It was piping hot and I couldn't even eat it right away. When I finally took a spoonful, it was way over-salted. I dropped a couple fried wontons into the container, to see if that would help. That's when I discovered that the fried wontons have a sugar coating on them. That clinched the fact that I'm not eating the soup. The egg roll was pretty good. I opened up the combination dinner. It was a huge portion of steaming hot fried rice and a decent helping of chicken lo mein. Unfortunately the chicken lo mein was coated in a very sweet hoisen sauce, thick and super sweet. This is not really the typical lo mein kind of sauce that I was expecting. The dish was mostly noodles, chicken and sauce. There were three snow pods in the meal and two matchstick carrots. As I lifted the noodles, the whole bottom was swimming in that sweet hoisen sauce. This place has gotten some good reviews, so I may give them another try but definitely not ordering the lo mein any more. read more

The 2 stars are for the delicious egg roll. The missing 3 were from the mean lady taking our order. While waiting for our food, she screamed at the chef several times (not complaining, very entertaining). Then once our food was ready, it say behind the counter for a good 10 minutes before she decided to give it to us. We watched our food sit and her take 4 other customers orders before a simple handover of our plastic bags. The worst part of the meal was the lack of a fortune cookie. They are an additional 25 cents or a dozen for $2. From my 25 plus years of ordering Chinese takeout, the first fortune is always free and included in every meal. This is my rating based on the egg-rolls and the quart of won ton soup I ordered. I did not order anything this particular day. The prices were fair and pretty much the same as other Chinese carry-out restaurants in the area. Note that this place is carry out only, there is no table for dining in. They only have a few chairs to sit and wait for your food. The egg rolls were stated in the menu as shrimp, by which shrimp would bet included inside said egg-roll. Well one of the 2 egg rolls ordered did not have any shrimp. The other egg-roll did in fact have 1 single lonely shrimp in it. The egg roll were room temperature and old tasting. It was obvious that they were made as part of a larger batch some time ago and sat waiting to be a part of a combination or order as is. The were not good at all, actually I hate to say it-they were gross. I could not even eat mine. The won ton soup looked great when I opened the container but that were the good ended. It was flavorless and again, the wontons were pre-made hours ago. The wontons were over cooked and mushy, they fell apart as soon as I would scoop one up with my spoon. The bok choy in the broth had been over heated so much that it lack any kind of life and just tasted awful in the soup. Had I been here before?!?! Me and my girlfriend ordered food from China Chef and it lives up to the expected 5 stars. It is a little more on the pricey side but worth every penny. We ordered the combination platter of sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice. I was not expecting the portion to be that big, but this one order is a dinner for two with leftovers. Now they are under new management and it has become one of the worst experiences I've had. The past THREE times I've gone there it has been nothing but disappointment. The past two times the food has been cold when I picked it up and both times the potstickers were still raw! This time they must've changed the potsticker recipe entirely and they were awful, tasted like plastic but at least they were cooked! For a Chinese take out the food is decent and the price is great for the lunch specials, which are relatively big in portions. The fried rice is not over salted or super greasy like your usual Chinese take out, which makes it actually edible. All the dishes were terrible with the exception of the egg rolls. My Almond Chicken had an undertaste. Our dogs, with a bit of encouragement, finished the meal. Normally I enjoy China Chef Express however, this order was a MUCH different story. FIRST, I was told that my food would be ready in 15 minutes, so I arrived at that time and waited an additional 20 minutes. 35 minutes total time. SECOND, I ordered NO mushrooms on the phone, and when I got there and paid for my order, I repeated no mushrooms and the lady had forgotten to mention it to the chef. When I arrived home, I found small pieces of mushroom all throughout the meal. Clearly the cook just half-heartedly tried to pick them out. Good thing it's not a serious allergy! THIRD, the vegetables in garlic sauce had ZERO garlic, no sauce, nothing. Completely tasteless. The only thing we could do is add some soy sauce to make it palatable. FOURTH, I got home, and they had completely forgotten the sweet & sour chicken I ordered which meant that I had to go up there. Again. FIFTH, I politely and kindly called to explain all of our issues and spoke with such a nice lady who told me how sorry she was and asked me to hold while she spoke to the owner and cook. When she came back she told me that the cook "remembers putting the sauce on" (there was none) and told me that unless I wanted to go up there and get some sauce or return the meal (this would be my third trip for ONE order) that the owner wasn't willing to do anything. China Chef gives you very generous portions, enough for two meals. We usually order the pepper steak, orange chicken, house won ton soup, and three egg rolls.
