My husband and I love their Sesame Chicken. Unlike some other restaurants that make their Sesame Chicken very sweet, China Chef has just the right amount of sweetness. I have no issue with them charging for fortune cookies as I do not always want them and prefer not to be given food I am just going to throw away. I was really excited to try this place after seeing how good the reviews are and knowing how hit-or-miss Chinese joints are in the burbs. Can't say I was a fan. The General Tso's chicken came in a sizable dinner portion, but neither the chicken nor the egg fried rice tasted fresh or all that flavorful. I used to go here all the time. They must have a different chef now, the egg drop soup was not so good, my almond chicken looked like chicken strips and the gravy tasted gross and the almond cookies I purchased were hard as a rock and grayish in color. We used to order from here regularly, then we moved. I was in the area so I placed an order for a number 17 and a large wonton soup. It was better than what I remembered! So sad! China chef was the best Chinese carry out around. We've been going there for years. Last nights order of the usual pork egg foo yong, sesame chicken, almond chicken and spring rolls were very disappointing. Everything was different especially the gravy! So sad to learn Ming had sold the place and the new owners will not be continuing the original recipes. I think they are making a big mistake and I will not be returning. Not very smart for new owners to invest in a great carry out restaurant and not continue with proven recipes! read more

I've been going to China Chef Express since 1998. Not only have I gotten to know the owners to the point that no matter what phone number I call from they recognize me but I've also got to watch a family business thrive. This is in my honest opinion the best Chinese food I've ever had. Sesame Chicken and General Tso's are the must tries. If you REALLY like hot food you'll need to request Extra Extra Hot to get up there they are a little mild in the spice department but that's easily remedied. read more

I went here just because I was getting a pizza at Little Caesar's for the kids and I wanted Chinese. Worst decision ever! The flavor of the food is just fine, nothing special. I love China Chef. They always give you a lot of food. Enough for two people in one combination meal. The Lady that runs the front counter it entertaining to say the least, she barley speaks English. The price is just right. My only complaint is that you have to pay for fortune cookies and chopsticks! All in All I like them best in the Shelby area for Chinese takeout. read more

Awesome place. The sesame chicken and orange chicken are absolutely delicious. The white rice is also a personal favorite. Me and my girlfriend eat here once a week. Please don't waste your money here. This was so flavorless. Nothing had any flavor and everything was watery. We ordered shrimp rolls and received egg rolls, that tasted like nothing. The lo mein is steamed and made with ramen noodles. I am so sad I wasted my money here. This can't even be called chinese food. It was unbelievable good! InStop at that plaza after work actually to get a pizza, and then changed my mind and got Chinese here. We had general Tao, Mongolian beef, lo main house specialty and chicken lo main! It was prepared quick and still steaming hot when I got home and the flavor and quality of the food was excellent!! The food was done pretty quick and it was for a good price. I have a couple of gripes on why this place is only 4 stars and not 5. They won't sell single fortune cookies, you gotta buy the pack of 12 for $2.25. I'd happily pay a quarter for one, and then I wouldn't have to eat the other 11. They also only have 1 small table with 2 chairs, granted its a take out place, but I kinda wanted to dig in with the way it smelled. The food is consistently great. Order a take out at least every other week, usual chicken chow mein & won ton soup. Won ton soup's is the best I've had with tender won tons & enjoyable broth. My goto for take out Chinese always. Staff is pleasant & accommodating. read more
