My husband and I ate here on our first date in 1997. It was really great back then. We thought they had closed for some reason. We popped by yesterday and saw they were open and had to stop for dinner. They were great! Service was fantastic, food was fantastic and the young lady that waited on us was a joy. We called and placed an order and it took 45 minutes to make! and when we got there it took another 30 minutes to even give to it me! the waitress tiara was flirting with other customers while my food was getting cold on the counter, this was the worst costumer service i've had from this place ever! read more

China Chef has been my favorite Chinese food restaurant in Fernley for over a decade. The fried rice and rangoons here are the best in town. I love the entree's as well, and the price is reasonable. I almost always order for delivery, and have always had great service when doing so. Sometimes I will call in an order for pick up and it is always ready super fast. read more

Ordered take out from here today for the first time. I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese food this place was alright probably not something I would rave about. My problem was there portion size instead of coming in Styrofoam boxes like most places the food here comes in those small Chinese takeout boxes you see in the movies lol. That wouldn't really be a problem it's just I feel there a little pricey for the quality and quantity of the food. There isn't many places to choose from for Chinese takeout here in Fernley so if I had to pick a place to go I would probably come back here. Not bad but not the best.. read more

Ok for lack of better choices. .. we had our lunch here. Which was ok. Not enough going on here for me to be like "oh wow!!!" I kinda regret choosing the spot. But hey, can't win them all. Alright so we walk inside, nothing spectacular but I wouldn't expect much. Only 2 other tables were sat, the server/host was awesome and very friendly. Checked up on us, we received waters and tea asap and he immediately took our order after he offered us his help for my car (he saw us outside messing with fuses) but ultimately said he couldn't help with that job in particular. So the menu has typical American Chinese foods available.. paper wrapped chicken, egg rolls, poo platter etc. We started off with fried shrimp and crispy noodles. Blagh. The shrimp were very tiny and way over cooked and had a sh**t load of batter to cover up the missing shrimp lol. They were full of grease and tasted like it too. The crispy noodles were, well... pan fried egg noodles. That's it. Flavorless and chewy and Sometimes crispy. But whatever... no biggie. Then... shows up the Wor Wonton! Ok the best part about this visit is the soup. It's not like amazing or anything but it's good. The broth is yummy and this he veggies were fresh. The dumplings were ok, and the pork was delicious, but I only got 2 small pieces. I can't say much for this chicken which were spongy and the shrimp which were like tiny hockey pucks. I didn't finish any of the food. The bill came to 22 with tax. I left 26 and got out of there. I will say our fortunes were cool! Haha. read more

Had two bad experiences here one being a piece of chicken that was pure crunch. I don't even think there was meat in there it must have all been fat because it tasted awful and I immediately had to stop and throw the chicken out, luckily it was take out. I did however enjoy their eggs drop soup so I ordered that a few more times after but didn't after I found a hair in it. They made a new one which is nice but I couldn't eat it because the thought of it grossed me out. I think they use too much salt in their food too. This food is amazing! I went there for the first time last night and ordered several a la carte items. The server was quick and attentive, the food was quickly prepared and served. I also found everything to be very fresh and well made. The vegetables were perfect, general tsao's chicken was crispy, the rice was fresh and fluffy (not sticky or chewy). I love the food, it's really the only decent Chinese food in this whole city. I was charged $1011.89 for a bowl of wonton soup. It took me three weeks to get the money back. The owner/Chinese cook banned me from the restaurant for life and said he will never serve me again because his brother saw my review and said it wasn't good enough so please be careful about what you say because they will refuse to serve you! read more

The best Chinese food in fernley, we are from a bigger city & China chef doesn't disappoint! Not only is the food good, but they always have the best customer service. Everyone is friendly in person at the restaurant, on the phone & even when they deliver. I can be somewhat of a scatter brain on the phone when I order but they are always patient and I appreciate it. read more

Tried many Chinese food places and this is by far my favorite. The chow mein and fried rice is always incredible and the service is great.

Apperantly this place is under new management- according to the owner of the one in Yerrington that is. The food use to be pretty good, now it's just okay. You can tell it's probably microwaved because the plates are usually as hot as the food. The portions are generous and the food is cheap, but you get what you pay for. read more

This is the best Chinese place in town! I tried it yesterday and just loved it! I had their sesame chicken dinner with double the chow mein and soup. It was only $10. I also ordered their delicious crab rangoons for $5. Lets just say I will be returning and even though I just had it last night i'm considering ordering again. The service was very friendly despite the phone ringing off the hook! I was scared to try because some of the reviews but I'm glad I didn't let that scare me away!! read more

I've been to many chinese places. We ordered won ton soup, Mongolian beef and combination chow mein and everything was super delicious.

I used too love coming to this restaurant but not anymore the workers there constantly watch over you and make you feel uncomfortable almost like if you were stealing although you paid for your food read more

Ignored by the hostess. He only serviced the Caucasian families and did not once greet me. Stood at the cashier for a solid 5 minutes until someone from the kitchen staff came to assist me. When I told him what I was ordering he responded "that's a two person meal" excuse me last I checked I ordered and you made the food. Currently am sitting and still not a greeting from the hostess. Will not be returning to this establishment. I would rather drive 30 minutes out to a better restaurant with a more welcoming attitude and better service. 0/5 stars but had to give one by default. read more

I just stopped by for Chicken Chow Mein and Prawns. It is Cantonese style noodles which I like and not loaded with celery or cabbage. You would find the same in SF or Oakland. Good Food. Prices reasonable. I'll go back and try other items. read more

I LIKE the food here a lot, EVERYTHING was so tasty Since we moved here, we've eaten here at least five times, and it NEVER disappoints. And the prices are so REASONABLE! Hit or miss place. Sometimes its really good other times you're left wondering how anyone could pass it off as edible. Last time we ordered was actually the best so far. We were so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It started with friendly service. Our food came out quickly starting with the egg drop soup. It was the best egg drop soup I've ever eaten, perfect. Next our meals arrived, everyone in our party ordered something different. Each dish was superb! We were there for lunch and got the lunch specials. The quality and portions of the food were excellent. To top it off, it only cost us $30 for 4 adults and everyone was stuffed by the end. My husband asked me to order out tonight and I chose China Chef, for Chinese delivery... we usually have Ching King Buffet, but I thought we would try something different and compare the two. I did an online search and found the full menu on Yelp. I called and ordered the Pu Pu Platter (for 2 Person) this is a given for us when ordering Chinese, then the Dragon and Phoenix, (Shrimp w/ mixed vegatbles and General Tsao's Chicken) the proprietor said they don't have that and asked if I was ordering from the online menu, I replied that I was and he stated that the online menu is outdated. He recommended something that I couldn't understand and my husband said yes get that since he said it was similar. I also ordered a side of pork fried rice for my husband since the dinner came with steamed white (which I prefer). I asked about the delivery charge, it is $5, three dollars more than China King Buffet which is $2 for orders of $20 or more. The food came quick, in fact to quick.. about 20 minutes. It's Friday night so this is not a good sign. I was handed one bag which had 1 foam to go container with the Pu Pu Platter inside and 3 Chinese Style to go boxes 1 large with the unknown name dish and 2 small which contained the steamed and fried rice. I paid with cash and gave the driver a tip for a total of $35. The Pu Pu Platter is considered an appetizer so I started with that and bit into the Beef Skewer, very chewy after a minute I spat it out and fed it to my dog. Next the b-b-q spare rib, also very chewy although I was able to eat most of it before feeding the dog again. The Egg Roll was a little soggy as was the Fried Wonton. The FanTail Shrimp was tiny and the Twice Cooked Pork was hard to find in the foil packet. The menu listed Chicken Fingers, Chicken Wings, and Shrimp Toast Teriyaki as part of the PuPu Platter, sadly they were missing. The unknown name dish was nothing special, I did find one Shrimp in my portion and another unknown meat. The Steamed Rice and Chinese Tea that I requested was good. There were no napkins, chopstix or forks to eat with, fortunatley I was at home and didn't need to eat with my fingers. Overall disappointing for the price.
