Shanghai Express was an okay experience overall. I went in for lunch and ordered the beef chow mein combo. The food was fine, but it honestly reminded me of lower quality Chinese food you might find at a gas station. It filled me up, but the flavor was nothing special or memorable. The service was the highlight of the visit. Even during the lunch rush, the staff was excellent and got my food out quickly, which I really appreciated. As for the ambiance, it was very typical and nothing stood out. Simple seating and a basic setup, which matched the no frills feel of the place. After a long day of work, the crew was pretty tired and didn't feel like going out for dinner, so I suggested, I'll go get some take out Chinese food over at this Shanghai Express I saw, located between the Anytime Fitness gym and the Mexican burrito joint. I know when you see the word "express" in the restaurant name, I'm not gonna expect some kinda authentic Asian experience. It's gonna be fast food American Chinese kinda food. I'll just get the food and bring it back to the hotel and we'll eat there. Going in, there's actually space to eat there if you want. Not a big dining area but decent enough. The menus are all up on the walls as well as online. Amazing this Chinese restaurant has an actual working website! Most Chinese places have no website, or just basic to place orders. Placing the orders was no prob. I see they have a lot of "bowl" dishes sort of set up for the single diner. I think a lot of workers come here to get food. There's a ton of workers of all types in this area, but no one actually lives out here by the Gigafactory and related places. I ordered, general chicken, house chow mien, a couple of orders of pot stickers, honey walnut shrimp and house fried rice. That should be enough food. I didn't have to wait too long and the food was packed and ready. Good thing the hotel is just a few minutes away and the food stayed nice and hot. We unpacked the food and used some plates from the hotel. I pretty much know what the crew likes, so everybody was happy. The general chicken was a pretty good version. Poor customer service, 5/28 Placed an online order for 10 people called to make sure they can mark orders to make it easy for everyone's order. Guy on the phone said "they are too busy to write/ mark them". He rather me cancel the order VS. mark them. Just lost a frequent customer on the weekly basis. read more

Some of the worse Chinese food I ever had Panda Express is better than this bs went there and it was expensive it smelled good so I was like I'll give it a shot and got home and it tasted like crap nothing like how it smelled inside the place it's like the smell is to attract you to think it's good but in reality it taste way different than what it smells like I wouldn't recommend spending money here especially because how expensive it is for how garbage it taste read more

Chicken was like left over leather. Chow mein had no vegetables in it. I guess if your really hungry and in a pinch, it's just okay and will hold you over till you find a toilet. I have generally had positive experiences at Shanghai Express until today. Upon my arrival at the restaurant on March 29, 2025, I was greeted in a discourteous manner by a young man in a black shirt for lunch at 11am. The restaurant had run out of sauce containers, so my friend and I politely requested one. He responded by rolling his eyes and provided only one container, despite there being two of us. When I requested an additional container, he placed it on the table rather abruptly, giving the impression that we were inconveniencing him. My friend then asked for sweet and sour sauce, to which he replied that they were out. When she requested soy sauce instead, he handed it to her forcefully without any verbal communication. I would recommend improved training for staff, as customers should not face poor treatment, especially after a long workday. read more

We had to go to the Tesla planned. Decided to stop here and get it couple of boxes of fried rice. The house fried rice is actually really good. Plenty of meat. We also got some walnut shrimp with a really nice honey glaze or something not sure, really crunchy shrimp with candied walnuts. I work in the area, so this is a nice option to have. The beef and broccoli in my opinion is the best dish they have. It is the perfect amount of food and some delish fresh broccoli. The fried rice is good. The service has always been friendly and the place is alway packed at lunch so thye are doing something right! Honestly much better than I expected! The honey walnut shrimp was so nice and crispy with a good flavor. My daughter also really liked the sweet and sour chicken. Chow Mein also very good. The young woman at the counter was very sweet. And the pricing was very reasonable! read more

Five bites in I realized they sold me rotten Sweet & Sour Pork... Barf! ! Of course, I didn't realize this until it was too late. Even if the pork wasn't rotten, it was over breaded, gristly, and fatty. This spot is out on USA Parkway. There isn't much to choose from out here. And businesses haven't thrived in the area. The small bar and grill in the Motel 6 is closed due to Covid. I had a few hours to kill between meetings. So I decided to try this place out. When I entered, the place looks nice and clean with bright colors. The large menu on the wall is easy to see. The man behind the counter was very nice and a great communicator. The sign said there was Sushi on Thursday and Friday but I saw no sushi menu. I ordered the beef and broccoli with fried rice and added some shrimp for $1.95. The food came out within a few minutes. Sadly I only got 3 shrimp. The fried rice was under seasoned and I was given no soy sauce in my to go bag. The beef and broccoli was very tasty. Chunks of garlic and a warm brown gravy. So in all, it's worth a try if you don't want fast food and you are out this way. read more

I figured this couldn't be a bad place to eat since it's Chinese and you can't mess it up .. but... this place I don't recommend ... it's not pricey but found a piece of metal in my food right before I bit into the chicken .. I'm sure it's from scrubbing the wok that the chicken is cooked in but if you had used water to rinse the pan it shouldn't have been on my plate I could have swallowed it and could have been a bad night .. I'm already mad I pod $10 for a plate of flavorless Chinese food ... no soy sauce in my to go bag ... and when I had even walked in the guy was watching tv on phone with headphones on didn't even know I was standing there could have jumped back there made my own food .... I had never eaten here before but I should've read the reviews about the orange chicken and the fried breaded chicken entrées. This is your warning! The orange chicken was disgusting. There were only four or five small shreds of chicken surrounded by greasy fried breading of which half of them were crunchy and semi-burnt. If you order any food from this place please, BEFORE you leave with your takeout, sample it and let them know that you're not happy. I felt ripped off because I'm sure they know what they're serving and for the prices that they're charging it should be better! I wouldn't feed this to my dog. read more

Okay folks, this restaurant is way out in the boondocks of Reno/Sparks. You are closer to Tesla then you are to the Silver Legacy. Major props to the owners and employees here keeping this open after the pandemic. My personal thanks to everyone. 1) this isn't a buffet. They have several lunch/dinner plates to satisfy most of your cravings. 2) their plates are very generous for the price. Hey Dayton, we finally have a GREAT Chinese restaurant near by (if you consider USA Parkway close). The restaurant is small and sparsely decorated. But do not be fooled, the food is on point. The vegetables are fresh and full of flavor, the sauces are complimentary; not overwhelming. And the proteins are plentiful on all of the selections I have sampled. One of my favorites is the Egg Foo Young. The gravy served with this dish is one one of the best that I have ever eaten. It is full of plump peas and crunchy carrots. It is so well done, that it could be a meal all to itself. read more

The woman at the register who takes your order is extremely polite! I ordered beef chow mein with plenty of vegetables(your choice of vegetables) and an egg roll and it was served in less than ten minutes! Hot and fresh. A very nice little establishment outside of the Sparks/Reno area. read more
