3.5 stars My mom got a coupon for this place from the newspaper and so here I am, having lunch with her here. I am actually surprised to see the huge selection of food, especially the Mongolian BBQ! And besides ice cream for dessert, they even have fondue and popcorn machine. Naturally can't expect the quality of ingredients to be good, and there will be lots of msg in the food, but a full stomach at this price? I can't complain....nowadays a meal at McDonald could cost the same. Don't know about guy's restroom, but girl's restroom stinks, but at least there are multiple stalls. After deciding between China Great Buffet and several others in the area, I decided to come here based on the pictures. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by this buffet! I have been to others in the past but China Great Buffet offers the most variety and decent quality food vs. price. Weekday lunch as $7.99/pp, I believe weekday dinner is $10.99 and weekends are $12.99. Sushi: lots of variety but your typical buffet quality (read: lots of rice and not very high quality fish) Soups: hot and sour, egg drop, miso, and especially liked their Fuzhou fish balls with filling in the middle! Yum. Seafood: baked salmon, basa filet, crawfish, fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, etc. Cold dishes: seaweed had a funny aftertaste, pickled cucumbers were good Desserts: ice cream, cheesecake, fruits, jello... not a fan of their desserts Meats: teriyaki chicken, pork chop, orange chicken - your usual buffet fare Overall, pretty satisfied with the selection for the price! I love the crab legs and I go at them like a seagull! Squawk squawk! The only problem was a server yelling at me because I grabbed some oysters during a lunch buffet session some time ago (I didn't know the oysters were only for dinner patrons) and I was so upset and had to leave that they refunded me half my money back. So I still like them. But I have a question, do they have oysters on Fridays or is it just Sat and Sun?? I have been coming here since they opened. Definitely one of the better buffets in the area right now! In the beginning it was great but it went downhill from there for a couple months, that was when I gave them only one star... Gave it another try yesterday and although they still dont have oysters, everything else is alot better :)! They even have mongolian noodles now but even hometown buffet has that now lol. Food is too greasy. They misled me into buying their VIP card, which gives 10% discount to members. I asked to buy such a card but the clerk told me to wait after I finished my meal. And then they gave me a bill charging me $5 for the card but without the 10% off. Then they argued that the card must be bought _after_ a purchase and cannot be used on that purchase. That's absurd. And the servers never bothered to refill our water. read more

This was the worst buffet that my family and I ever went. Even my daughter was shock. She found so many issues. One of them spoons was very dirty, the marshmallow someone took a bite and put back in the bowl. The ice cream scoop was put into dirty water and among other issues..she has stomachache and so as my little boy complained. never go back again.. read more

Let me start off by saying that this place is SHIT!!! I was very disappointed with their food presentation. Yesterday my girlfriend and I gave it a try since we've never been there before, see my girlfriend and I spent two days in L.A so we decided to go to a Chinese buffet and let me tell you guys that it SUCKED. I paid $35 for my girlfriend and I which I didn't mind but honestly, with the food they had it wasn't even worth a damn penny. I'm from Escondido and Fasia buffet is 10x better than this shit hole. I don't know why this place has a 3 stars on Yelp for. It's actually really good for the price that you pay. You only pay $12 and yet they have so much for available for you. It's fantastic. I really like the sushi/seafood that they have here. They have some pretty decent rolls too, not just the cheap stuff. They also have all the salmon sashimi you can make. Besides that, I also like how they have crab legs. I can eat that all day. Also they have a chef cooking for you here. He seems to be cooking some type of mongolian noodles with beef. read more

We went for the lunch buffet on Saturday, September 8. Midway thru the meal, I had the baked salmon. One bite of the fish told me there was something wrong with it, it tasted rotten. I spewed it out but I might have swallowed some of it. I took a piece of the fish with a fork, smelled it, and it had a pungent, repulsive odor. I called the server over to the table, had her smell it, and immediately, she said sorry to me. I had my partner smell it and he dropped his utensils and quit eating. We went and talked to the manager, and she says it is not salmon but trout. I went back and took a picture of the salmon with the sign above saying "Baked Salmon". Correct me if I'm wrong but salmon flesh would look different from trout flesh as far as the color is concerned. Salmon is pink, trout is white. Additionally, salmon would taste different. Almost one hour later, it was confirmed that I swallowed some of the rotten salmon because I had to go to the bathroom twice. read more

Let's just start with the "Pros" - 1. Cheap (dinner was around $11, Lunch is around $8) 2. Selection (they have sushi, to mongolian bbq, to seafood) Now that I've gotten that out of the way - 1. Dirty floors 2. Customer Service - The guy at the mongolian bbq booth seemed like he wanted to stab someone the whole time he was there. He was muttering curse words at customers (in chinese) the whole time and making implications for people to TIP. If he has issues with his salary, he should be taking it out with management and NOT the customers. 3. The People - I've came here many times because my parents just love this place (because of price and selection), and seen some of the most diverse/disgusting type of people. My most recent story involves the soup station. This lady in front of me took the tongs from a nearby station and started to pick at the soup station taking out all the ingredients for herself. I just got sick of waiting and lost my appetite watching go through the soup. 4. Quality - The selection is there - but the quality just isn't. My little cousin got food poisoning from eating the oysters. There were also weird looking "plant like" fungus growing out of the mussels, I just lost my appetite. Yes - China Great Buffet is CHEAP, and it DOES have a decent selection of food. However you get what you paid for. read more

Becarfeul what you are eating here!!!! Every since this buffet has opened I've ate here a couple of times . I think this was the final day me and my family will step here from now on. Horrible experience! I went with my family last week to eat here after church , and like usual it was packed , which my parents and I didn't mind two wait a few minutes to get seated . Once we got seated down , a woman started to ask how many children and what drinks we wanted , once that was set , she rolled her eyes and left. Once we got up , I immediately went to get Mongolian beef and chow mein. Once we got back , the waitress gave us our drinks .Once my sister took a sip of her drink , she mentioned it tasted like mineralized water , so I called the waitress , and she took the drink from my hand , like if she knew already. Now for the gross part. I went up to get seafood soup , and once I took a scoop , there was a pretty big roach floating in the pot ! I quickly went to let a waitress know , before people began to complain , and she went , grabbed the pot , took the roach , and put it back. She looked at me and said "there get some soup now" no thank you , just that. As I was going back to my seat the waitress who took the pot out began talking to the other waitresses and constantly turned and looked at me . I told my mom and we immediately left . When this place first opened , I felt really welcomed into the restaurant , the waitresses would constantly be picking up your finished plates and filling up your drink , but now the service is beyond horrible , they're rude and never thankful !!! read more

This place is horrendous. Everything in this buffet was horrible. The sushi bar was laughable and most of the food there wasn't fresh. Most of the hot foods were extremely dank such as the ribs and roast beef. The seafood was not fresh as it had a rotten smell.The food in the bakery they had seemed to have stayed there for days. If I could give negative stars I would give this place a negative 5. Since our party was Hispanic we didn't get great service from the Asian waiters. We had to keep asking for refills. The food was okay but not great for the price of almost 15 per person. And the thing that broke the straw was that we found hair in soup, mashed potatoes, and other plates. Come on now!! One should not hold high hopes when they are spending a little over $10 for an Asian seafood buffet (not to mention the 15% coupon I had). I was pleasantly surprise that although the food selection was not as great as places like Zen buffet but the quality was much better in terms of freshness and taste. Rather then have a bigger amount of selection, this place stride for quality and that to me is more important. Another thing I like most about thus place is that I hate the feeling to be fighting for food. In places like Zen Buffet, people act like vultures and it is always the first three people who pile the nicer items sky high so that no one else can get a bite. At China Great Buffet, the atmosphere is different because the tray is always filled in a timely manner. Don't come if 1) you know there's gonna be only 1 or 2 of you 2) you expect the servers to be friendly and attentive. 3) you drink more than 1 glass of water during meal. Do come if 1) you come as a big group. 2) you don't care about service 3) if your glass is empty, you'll drink the soup from the buffet line instead. The first star is for the food. The second is for the clean bathroom. My husband and I have been coming here a LOT since they first opened in 2011. The food is flavorful and decent for the price. However, the quality of service has dropped big time recently to the point where we've agreed never to return again. Why? The servers had been very ignorant and RUDE! They ignored us when we were trying to get our drinks refilled or even just to have the plates put away. I am a slow eater so even though it seemed like we spent a lot of time there I actually didn't eat a lot. By the time I was having my second plate the waitress had already given us the check without asking if we wanted anything else and just walked away, and we were like what the heck?! We tried to keep our cool pretending that didn't happen. Then when she came to pick up the dirty plates from the next table I decided to ask for a refill for my drink. She took my glass to refill and then slammed it on the table. I noticed that they would be particularly at their worst with small parties like 1-2 people because the guy next to us was treated similarly and he was there alone. Next, it was my husband's turn to ask for his refill and again she slammed his glass on the table. Anyway, what we find funny is that when she brought us the change after we had paid she put down the tray so very politely and gently as if the money was gonna spill. LOL. So, I'm here for lunch and I'm only writing this review after going here for the 2nd time and will probably my last. The hot menu items are nothing special. The reason I ate here the first time (dinner) was the fact that they serve Sashimi, which they only had Salmon and another less interesting kind I didn't care for. What I didn't know was that they do not serve any salmon sashimi/sushi for lunch time. Seriously!? What a waste. Food is good but one of the waitress who serve us is so lazy we order tea for 4 person she only gave us 1 tea pot and she said they run out of tea pot. She got mad when we add one table for another 4 visitors came. Cheap, a-ok, AYCE chinese buffet. From the name of the restaurant, I already knew that this place would not be a "great" buffet. My dad had convince me to come here to celebrate my brother's birthday since it was cheap and had a good variety. When I heard "cheap", I instantly knew that the quality of the buffet would be lacking since its hard to make money now a days without lacking quality. My family and I arrived at the restaurant at 7pm on a Saturday night. It was very busy and there were many parties ahead of us that had large parties. If you do not want to wait a long time for a seat, I highly recommend that you come with a small party. My family was a party of 6 and all the smaller parties got a seat before us, which was very upsetting. The price of the buffet varies depending on what time of the day you come and what day of the week you come. Its $12.99 for the weekend, $10.99 for the weeknights, and $9.99 for weekday lunch. Food (2 star): This buffet had typical your Chinese food that is cooked in large portion without a care into the flavoring or quality of the food. For example, they had a dish that was similar to walnut shrimp without the walnut, so basically it was just battered fried small shrimps slabbed on with a large amount of mayonnaise. There was also a mongolian grill where you get to choose what to put into your plate of noodles (e.g. mushroom, egg, beef, chicken etc) and watch the chef cook it, this did not take too long to cook. As for the dessert, the best thing there was almond cookie, which is sad since you can just buy these cookies at your local Asian market. There was jell-o, a variety of cake, plenty of fruits, and Asian desserts ie coconut with tapioca. Drinks are not included into the cost of the buffet. The best thing there was the baked mussels. My family loved the crab legs but it was not king crab legs. Service (3 star) : The waitress was busy waiting on numerous tables but I give her props for always taking my plates away before I came back to the table with a new plate. Ambiance (3 star) : It was very loud in restaurant since there were so many families and young kids. We sat next to a party that had 2 kids that were done eating and just ripping a bunch of napkins constantly. Overall, I would not come back here again. It's one of the most cheapest Chinese-American fusion buffets in the SGV. The floors need a good cleaning because my feet did get stuck on them once. The food is in mediocre quality. I find that some of the food, like the cheese mussels, were extremely fattening and they tasted very heavy to the point where I gagged. The utensils aren't well washed because I found a dried spinach on the fork (so gross!). You'd find better in a different buffet. read more

I am not a fan of buffets, but my husband adores them. Nothing spectacular about the service or the quality of the food, other than they have fresh crab legs and crawfish available during dinner hours. He definitely took advantage--literally, 6 plates full of them. I'd say we got our money's worth and then some! For all the places to eat around here, I would save my money and go elsewhere.
