Food is consistently poor quality and taste. Black bean sauces is salty and oily, chop suey lacks vegetables, corn soup is salty, wonton soup has little taste. In the mood for some Chinese food and unsure of where to grab some in our new neighborhood we drove past China Island on the way to Publix. "Oh, look! Maybe we can get food from there someday." The very next day we were having a Chinese feast. Orange Chicken - DELICIOUS! Get this! The all white chicken breast, breaded and drenched in delicious sauce. It brought some broccoli in the mix...delicious. I would recommend this with the white rice, but I had it with the fried rice and it was good as well. Pork Fried Rice - I am a huge fan of fried rice (especially of the pork variety) and while this one didn't disappoint, it didn't blow me away either. It was a little greasy, even for me, but the pork was plentiful. A lot less salty than other fried rice, but I kind of liked that. Sweet and Sour Chicken - Chunks of chicken fried and served with a sweet sauce (on the side, not drenched in). I had the chicken, with a little drizzle of the sauce and then a drizzle of the spicy mustard that comes with each order. I moved to Florida 4 years ago and cannot find good pizza or Chinese food! A friend turned me on to this place and it was okay, sadly it has been declining for some time now starting with them hiring people that do not know the menu and they don't seem to last long so they never get proficient. I pay about $60. Each time I visit, I ask for extra sauce on the chicken and get it once out of 4 to 5 visits, they once told me it is a $2 charge for the extra sauce, the dry noodles they want $1 a bag and they seem to be stale! Today I ordered again and like an idiot I didn't check my order and the chicken was dry, you could see the bottom of the tray it came in! The wonton soup tasted like beef broth, did they run out of soap? I called them to complain and I get the 12 year old girl telling me they put the sauce on the chicken!! Look at the photo you can see the bottom of the tin tray! Not a drop of sauce!! I live like 20-25 minutes away with traffic otherwise I would have brought it right back!! I have friends in NY that own a Chinese restaurant and I keep telling them to come and open one here, they would put all these Chinese restaurants out of business in a month!! Don't bother. Better to go to Publix and get a frozen meal. Maybe we should have heeded the red flags. Seats were torn and mended with duct tape Number one: it was 7pm on Sunday and no one was there except for take out. And no one ever came to eat in. We saw a few bad yelp reviews but they weren't recent. It was raining and we were lazy to keep driving around. The waitress shook her head and said don't order the steak dish. My husband said the mu shu pork was ok. Waitress was attentive considering we were her only customers. Shame on us we should know better. I highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious & authentic Chinese food. The menu is extensive and the portions are generous. We call in our orders for pick up at least once a week. Our favorite dishes are the Scallops Cantonese and dinner combinations such as Cashew Chicken, Special Lo Mein, and Pork & Chicken with Vegetables. These combos include an egg roll, pork fried rice, and either a wonton or egg drop soup. They have some spicy dishes as well which are also excellent. Another notable item is the Special Wonton Soup which is loaded with meat and is a full meal in itself! The 3 young ladies who work the desk are always a pleasure to see. They are courteous, consistent, and our food orders are always correct. It's so refreshing to deal with people who really care about their job! The place sucks, and so does the food. Friends recently recommended me this place so I felt like giving it a shot, I regret it. I got some chicken with broccoli and chicken fried rice, the rice was ok but the chicken with broccoli was tasteless. I would've enjoyed a frozen pizza more, and for what I've ended up paying I regret not going to the supermarket for dinner. This place USED TO BE really good. I don't know what has happened to it though, and it is sad to see what once was a REALLY good place...where you could order anything and just know it would be great...turn into the debacle it is now. We live right around the corner...Shenandoah...and have enjoyed China Island for years, but what was vivacious and fresh is now dead and decaying. I could regale you with tales of massive disappointment, but suffice it to say I and my family will never return or order take out from here again. The lady in charge...I was told she is an owner...was completely apathetic, walking around from the kitchen in sandals & shorts, lying to my face about the food, and I am done. Now I see they have massive amounts of health violations too. I wish I had known this...as I would have protected my family. Protect yours by not going here. I just ordered delivery from here and I honestly wish I'd saved the $14.. #24 combination the chicken was gross with a really tough breaded exterior. The fried rice has no taste. The crispy strips given were stale. Should have known by the package of mustard that looked like it was going to push the cap off from the amount of gas trapped inside (obviously so old there's something growing in it). Im searching for somewhat half decent chinese take-out food in the Davie/Sunrise area and tried this place today. Worse chinese food I have ever had. I ordered a staple chinese take-out meal, Chicken & brocolli with pork fried rice. The moment I opened the container, I knew I would be dispointed. The chicken was incredibly pale white. Nothing, absolutely nothing had any flavor. I had to pour 4 packets of soy sauce and salt. There was hardly any of the gravy sauce that dish is normally prepared with. The rice tasted mushy old and mushy, so it was obviously made in a huge batch and just reheated. The fact that I ordered the food and it was ready in 5 mins, just shows, this was not freshly made chinese food. I would not recommend this place to anyone read more

Delicious food! Best duck sauce ever! If ordering out make sure to ask for the house duck sauce to go. Family favorites include the sweet and sour chicken/pork and General tao's chicken. The hot and sour soup is the perfect balance of spicy with great amount of vegetables. The service is good, the tea is great if you're dinning in. The ice cream at the end of a combo is okay but the food and duck sauce is so good it makes up for anything it lacks. Family owned and friendly! It is a neighborhood Chinese place not PF Chang's so don't expect the same things... I prefer this for the pork fried rice and orange chicken/sweet and sour chicken/ general Tao. read more

Funny story but true, Food is good and prices are better but we always wondered why is the dinning area always empty until yesterday and I will never go back. I order soup and it was cold so I told the waitress here is her response. "Next time you order soup here you need to specify you wanted it hot" So we ask for more noodles- waitress answer "You should not eat so much, the more you eat the more you want to eat and you get fat" REALLY??? SHE CALLED ME FAT?? plus is $1 more. I was ok with that. I order chicken wings her response "Chicken wings take long time. You want stir fry" OK? No it is not ok! I still order the chicken wing and she got upset. We ask for more hot tea- her response " When you want hot tea you do not need to call me just open the tea lead and I know. How will I know if I am taking care of other customers" Needles to say only 2 tables had customers and we where both next to each other. During the meal she was reaching over us and our plates to grab empty plates. At one point we started to hear someone practicing an clarinet or trumpet and it was the owners kids practicing and instrument. I was still eating but I knew I was not going to eat all my food. So I told her that I will need a doggy bag later. She brought the container and while I was eating took my plate away leaving me with a fork full of food. When I told her I was still eating she sarcastically open the container and told me "here you go" Again the kids got our attention when they started arguing like siblings do but not appropriate of a restaurant environment. I was going to say something to the owner when I realized she have been standing all along in the middle of the dinning room aware of everything and gave me a look like she was ready to start killing people right then and there. Wish there was an option for a negative 10 stars . I went here to grab some crab Rangoon's as I get my dry cleaning done at the place right next door. I went I. Ordered to go, and paid. While I waited for my order I noticed a colleague from work having luck, he called me over to sit while I waited on my order. Now once the order came out I opened the package to check it and also offered my colleague one,; before I could take the food from the package the Chinese lady started screaming at me to get out! So I asked why? She screamed again said "to go, means to go, I cannot open my food package in the restaurant! I can't make this up! She was the rudest meanest person I've ever come across in my life. My colleague and I told her to get the manager, which she did after yelling at us some more. When he came out , he apologized to my colleague (a Caucasian man) not me. My colleague told the manager I am the one he needs to apologize to... he somewhat apologized under his breath and gave me 2 complimentary duck sauces. Lol I've never felt blunt end of rascism until that day! Never will I ever go here, send anyone I know here ever again! Horrible people , and I've had way better crab Rangoon's before to be honest. Please BEWARE of flying fingernail clippings at the register. An employee was clipping her nails near the takeout orders and register. I was unlucky enough to be hit by one of these clippings as I went to pay. She only offered a soft giggle and quietly said sorry after I yelled out GROSS! I used to eat at China Island often. I live a few blocks from the place.Food in general was pretty good. Nothing special but very convenient for a quick meal. Once in awhile something would taste from old oil or an ingredient would be left out of the dish. The fried rice was consistently oddly flavored and I stopped asking for it and asked for white. The owner who often seems to wait and cook during lunch (I think), would be very condescending if I reminded him something was forgotten, or I dared to ask what he thought was a stupid question. An example of my stupid questions would be "do you serve lo mien with soup?". I never told him the fried rice had stunk as I wanted the avoid his sneer. I got tired of putting up with the guy when I last dared to remind him he forgot my drink . Meanwhile my girlfriend had talked to someone who worked there part time taking phone orders . She was a neighborhood high school girl. She said the place was filthy in the kitchen, with burning cigarettes dangling out of the cooks mouths. She said sanitation was non - existent and she wouldn't eat the food itself because of all the flies in the kitchen. I always order the orange chicken but it was too hot so I asked them if they have something less spicy and they recommended the sesame chicken. I tried it and love it! I have eaten in the Rest. about 6 times. It is 3 out of 5 Stars but the Take-out is 1/2 * The delivery Service is a Night mare. They DO NOT EVER SEND WHITE RICE. This kills almost every Dish that has a Sauce. The Chinese Lady who mostly answers the phone is so 'not Caring" as they come. The food is almost good and this is a pretty good review for Chinese Take out. When you get the Food you will be either missing the sauce for the Crab Rangoon and or White Rice. For New York style Chinese food, it's hard to beat China Island in this part of Broward County. A big plus is that they only use boneless chicken breast in the chicken dishes. The soups are also slightly above average, with a heartier broth than most. It's priced a little higher than most, which I consider a fair trade off for the neighborhood and quality of meat.
