I stopped here because this place has decent reviews. I won't be back. Service was so, so and totally done by the owner while he let his employees hang around. The food was just not very fresh tasting. I skipped the buffet (I'm too scared to eat at any buffet) and ordered a simple almond chicken dish. The hot and sour soup was a good consistency and texture but somehow had a slightly sweet flavor that put me off. The fried egg roll was very good but I was offered no sauce(s) to put on it. The sticky rice was overly sticky and the almond chicken had fresh mushrooms in it but the sauce was so glooey and thick I couldn't eat much of it. read more

This place was alright, but I've definitely had better Chinese food in Austin. The price is right, but the food wasn't what we were looking for. It had far too much thick, goopy sauce on the meat and hardly any veggies with the entrees. Also, the fried rice is literally just that - rice that has been fried, with nothing else in it (not even carrots and peas!). That was disappointing. I went in for some Chinese buffet action and was not disappointed. Although a small selection everything was fresh and delicious. The wife and I followed up 3 days later with some take out (they don't do buffet on the weekend) and it was fantastic. No more driving all the way out to china town! I recently had my first dining experience at China Palace. Well, to start, I found it strange that we were the only dine in patrons. However, being about 5:15 on a weekday, maybe not so strange at all. Anyway, we were greeted and seated immediately. The menu had several options to choose from. I really wanted to try the crispy duck, but wasn't sure if I'd like it. I explained to the hostess/waitress that this was my first time dining and asked if she would consider a half order at half price (not like anyone was around to witness it). She declined, so I ended up ordering orange beef and my daughter had crispy honey chicken. I was baffled as to why my dish (orange beef) was just luke warm upon delivery as we were the only people in the restaurant. The beef was also very tough. The honey chicken was pretty good, it came with soup, rice and an egg roll. She opted for wonton soup which was actually delicious. Wontons were cooked perfectly, light and delicious. We had crab rangoon as an appetizer. It was just okay, didn't seem to be fresh out of the fryer. Overall, I felt the service was fairly slow considering they didn't have anyone else to deal with, and the food was so so. I may try it again in the future. read more

I ordered the dragon special only to discover their spicy food had no flavor. I'm not used to finding this many jalapenos peppers in my Chinese food. The steam dumplings obviously reheated based on their gooey consistency with dried corners. Their dipping sauce was mediocre at best, it tasted like diluted soy sauce. read more

I've tried this place a few times for take-out and delivery. I think my first experience may have been tainted by a hangover - i.e., any fatty food that gets dropped off at my door while I'm still in my pajamas at 2:00pm is delicious. Although my recent experience here was under similar pretenses, I realized the food really wasn't up to snuff. I ordered the Three Cup Chicken that everyone raves about. The sauce is okay, but I only want a few bites of it. The inclusion of all the chicken parts on the bone may be "authentic," but my hangover meal needs to be much easier than that. I kept crunching on bits of bone, and I had to pick every piece up with my fingers to get the meat off of it. Our remote control (used primarily for surfing through really bad lifetime-type movies that day) suffered - I think some of the buttons are still sticky. I also ordered the Crab Rangoon to share. Who doesn't love cream cheese and fried deliciousness? Well, I don't know how you screw that up, but it just wasn't good. And FYI - Yelp says they open at 11:00 AM on Sundays. NOT TRUE! We were so sadly disappointed to find out they don't open until noon. We ordered at 11:00 online, anyway. And although they were super sweet about calling us to tell us that our order wouldn't be ready until about 12:40 (which I appreciate), we were still peeking out the window as any car passed between 12:01 and when our order arrived. read more

Excellent take-out food this evening that was ordered on 1/6/14. I ordered shrimp and vegetables - moderately spicy, with brown rice, and a large wonton soup. This wonton soup had beautiful vegetables in it, and was so good on a cold evening! Everything was packed tightly for the ride home, hot, fresh, and delicious. We did enjoy the egg drop soup over the hot & sour which is unusual for us. My partner loved the chicken fried rice here, I didn't get to try any he ate it so fast. lol I wasn't much on the general tsos or hunan beef, but would give this place another try at ordering a different dish. The delivery was super fast. Have since been back and got the garlic chicken & kung pao chicken. Both were pretty good. The kung pao will blow your head off it was so spicy, but loved it. I think this place suffers from the Yelp, 4-star syndrome. I can easily see that coming here and ordering chicken or having the buffet is a reasonably fun experience. They are fun people (threw in free chicken wings with my order), and some dishes were good - about at the level of any cheap takeout place in New York City, for example. BUT we are talking about cheap, greasy, american-chinese food. AND the sizzling seafood was inedible. Sorry, I can't give more than 2 stars to a place that led me to throw out half my order. I ordered through GrubHub and delivery speed was fine, nothing to complain about. But the food was just awful. Crab Rangoon had zero discernible crab inside. Steamed pork dumplings just tasted off. This place is a nightmare. I've worked in restaurants for over a decade and saw some things I've never seen before in a restaurant. The hostess who takes the carry out orders over the phone does not know the menu items or what's in the dishes they offer. Unbelievable. The minute you walk in the place, you see a dirty residential fridge near the entrance to the kitchen. Never seen that before. I ordered duck and it literally was duck on a bed of cabbage, with little fried pita chips and the worst plum sauce you could imagine. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

So after hearing a few recommendations from some friends I decide to try this place out. Usually, for me, I tend to be quite lazy during my Saturday afternoons where I want something for lunch that's take-out... and I want it fast. When Chinese comes to mind, though, I can never seem to find a joint that fits within that category. I was very, very surprised to find that China Palace could do such a thing. I placed an order over the phone (after seeing their menu online) and within 15 min. I decided to go and pick up my food, and sure enough it was sitting there ready to go. Best part of all, I only payed 5.95 for Sesame chicken, 2 scoops of white rice, wonton soup, condiments, almond cookie and fortune cookie, and yes, fork, spoon, knife, and napkin (you'd be surprised how many places forget this stuff). Oh and did I mention this was the most delicious Sesame chicken I have ever had in Austin? Hands down... it was the best value I have gotten for take out... anywhere. Give the place a shot... it's family owned so they might be entitled to have a hoot. And I will agree in saying that it's quite hard to find a good Chinese joint here in Austin. Personally I find that a lot of Chinese food is quite mediocre here... and yes I'm talking strictly of Chinese restaurants. China Palace was a refreshing change... and I will consider it in the future for their buffet as well when dining in. read more

Although easy to miss on Airport, I do like this little Chinese place. I enjoy their lunch buffet which is reasonably priced and has very yummy pan-fried dumplings with just enough ginger to highlight the flavor but not overpower it. I am not too fond of their soups and wish that the menu would change more but the staples are good. They have a great egg foo yung at dinner which is not on the menu, but is huge and tasty with 3 large portions. I prefer the shrimp. read more
