Dishes were either empty or old(they would come and stir but they still had dried out portions from being out so long)

This place has really gone downhill since the new owners have taken over. We have been there 3 times since they reopened and the first time was similar to the previous owners quality so we thought the 2nd time we went and the quality had declined significantly we thought it was just a bad day. But this last time was just March 14, 2026 at 6:15 pm and honestly it was so horrible that we will never be back again. The buffet was old and cold and they would only put out small portions and blend it in with food that was discolored it had been out so long. Ones that were empty we had to request some after waiting 10 minutes for them to fill them back with some more. The crab ragoons were so old they were soggy and cold so when I asked for something fresh, they brought 6 out on a plate that were clearly under a warming lamp in the kitchen. They were just barely warm and although they were better than what was on the buffet, we did pay money with the expectation of getting a fresh variety of food that was hot, not old & cold. The owners are destroying this restaurant just like they did their other ones.

Standard buffet items. Recommend ordering off the menu and getting fresh dishes made to your liking.

Only Chinese food around town in my eyes. Hands down, always the best and great portion sizes.

Decent Chinese food, great Chinese atmosphere and the buffet is pretty great. Prices are fair and the staff is friendly.

Thought we'd give this place another try... Do not order buffet lunch or dinner, it's terrible. Food was cold and tasteless.

This place is so new that it doesn't even exist on Google yet! It's in the old Ponderosa building,…read moreonly now it's exclusively a buffet. We stopped in for lunch to give it a try. It's about $15 per person, and that doesn't include a drink (I think drinks were like $3). Lunch does not appear to be any cheaper than dinner. I would have given 4 stars if it weren't for the price; I think that was quite steep for what we got. I think just including drinks would go a long way to make this price point a little better. The salad bar was pretty extensive, including toppings like radishes and cottage cheese with assorted fruits. There was a build-your-own pasta station that I didn't get a chance to try, and then lots of your standard American foods- pork chops, (tiny!) ribs, mac and cheese (which was actually amazing), two types of green beans, etc. Everything was decent but not great except the mac n cheese. Then the dessert table was pretty great- I loved the bread pudding! There were lots of choices, including staples like cheesecake and brownies, but also more interesting choices like orange Fanta pudding. All in all, I would absolutely return if the price lowered just a bit, but otherwise I'll stick to the casino when looking for a buffet- it's more expensive, but definitely higher quality.

I expected a lot more from this place I can definitely see they are trying to make fresher food…read morethen the old ponderosa the salad bar looked like everything was real fresh so that was good the desert bar was the same old same ole with the exception of the root beer float (bonus) but the hot buffet was almost exactly the same as the old ponderosa except they had way I mean way way better wings they were real and real good to so if they keep that up I will be going back for sure . And oh yea it wasn't too expensive with tip two of us ate for $40 we tipped pretty good tho.

So as far as buffets it is what it is. It's affordable but don't expect top of the line. …read more. The food was good. The place was clean. Food was stocked with a large variety. Staff was good. Sushi bar lacked availability. Might go back if I wanted buffet quality foods.

China One Buffet in Big Rapids, MI, is the kind of place that delivers exactly what you want from a…read moreproper buffet experience--hot, fresh food, a wide variety of options, and service that operates with near-military precision. A group of work friends and I initially planned to grab takeout but wisely chose to dine in. A break from the office was well worth it. The buffet stations were consistently stocked, ensuring there was never an empty tray. Every dish was hot and fresh, a rarity for some buffets. The only mild mishap was one unfortunate diner underestimating the temperature of a bacon-wrapped bite--though, if anything, this speaks to the kitchen's dedication to serving food at optimal temperatures. I piled my plate high with their green beans, cooked in a style I describe as distinctly Chinese--simple, flavorful, and addictively good. General Tso's chicken was rich and saucy, delivering just the right balance of sweet and spice. While I can't confirm the origins of the General's recipe, I can tell you it's certainly not from the Colonel. The pepper steak was well-prepared, and in a strategic move, I borrowed some broccoli from the chicken and broccoli dish, a maneuver I highly recommend for boosting vegetable intake. One of the more mysterious, yet delightful, items was a spring roll filled with a meat pâté-like filling. I didn't know exactly what I was eating, but I did know I wanted more of it. Using green beans as a base instead of rice proved to be an excellent choice, keeping the meal lighter and preventing an afternoon energy crash. The service was exemplary. The staff moved with sniper-like accuracy, ensuring my ice water was never empty--I have never felt more hydrated at a restaurant. The environment was clean, though the restaurant has seen younger days. It has been around for years, and I don't think I've seen a change. China One Buffet checks all the necessary boxes--solid food quality, exceptional service, and an experience that delivers on expectations. I'll absolutely be back, green beans first, mystery spring roll second. If you're looking for a buffet that gets it right, this is one worth visiting.
