Food is wonderful, but service is very bad. We watched while others got served that came in after us. We left after 30 minutes of nothing, not even our soup! Food it generally fine but this rating is for the take out. If they quote you 35 minutes, add another 30 minutes to that estimate. It doesn't matter if the restaurant is busy or not. It is a possibility that they don't start your order until you show up. Not sure they really care whether you're upset or not. While you are waiting, they will ask you to pay too. One guy tonight was thinking about leaving but it is probably a hassle to try to get the money back. So if there is anyone out there looking to start a Chinese restaurant, this city is pining for a good one. read more

I had taken my family here several times because the food is pretty good. However the service has a lot of area to improve. For example my wife and I went there to have date night are were sitting there for s while waiting to get asked if we wanted even a glass of water. When we finally got a server to stop by our table we asked how long until we got a server and we were told that the larger party that was in there was priority!!! The food is good. The service is horrible. Waited for our meal and it came out in 10 minute increments. They never once came to our table see how we were. We had to track them down to get water. The female with the glasses was rude. She then came out to tell us that part of our order could not be prepared because they ran out. I told her that it was the worst service that I have ever had. They asked us if we wanted to change the order to something else and told them to cancel. Every time we tried to get her attention for something we were ignored. Unbelievable!! We have ordered out here for many years and generally ordered the same items, about 2 months ago my wife complained about not getting the same level of chicken in our order, she was told that we would need to order extra meat, which was unacceptable but we did last time. Now we ordered several items, mongo beef, and chicken chow main, almost no meat in either! Why would one expect to be treated in this manner? Well they had our phone # . This restaurant is a hit or miss, I have received great service and the food was great to on other occasions the service not so good one of reasons being the waitress didn't understand a word of English and the food badly prepared. The lady owner never happy always grumpy with a face that she is going to smack you, the gentleman always very gracious even when I see that he is exhausted. Overall 3 ***, Food 4 ****, Service 5 *****, Management 2 ** I am writing this review to present an updated perspective. Went there on Friday Jan 25, 2013 at 8:00 pm. PROS: First off, the restaurant parking lot was not crowded at all like most of the surrounding restaurants in Morgan Hill on a Friday evening. This, combined with ALL of the negative reviews that I read, raised my concern without even getting inside. Once inside I warmed up slightly, as the interior decor was quite nice. Not your typical OLD Chinese joint with fake Chinese artifacts. Very modern and the ambiance was warm. This feeling soon faded as I walked down the main entry way aisle into the place. At the end of the walkway was a wait station right there out in the open for everyone to see; and what I saw was not a pleasant site!! Dirty dishes and dirty table linens were right out there in plain sight for everyone to be disgusted with, in what was the main foyer of the restaurant. The linens were strewn all over the floor and the cart was full of dirty dishes; was just right there! This really was unsightly to be polite about it. Nevertheless, we still decided to be seated. I love Chinese Food and really needed to find a decent or tolerable Chinese restaurant in our new city. We had tried a few of the other cuisines and are really quite pleased with the assorted selection of restaurants in Morgan Hill and the quality of their food, decor and service. So we sat down Benjamin was our waiter. He was friendly, polite, prompt, professional, attentive, competent and not overbearing. The menus were decorative, not paper and had a pretty decent selection. Also the prices were not bad at all. He took our order and returned quickly with our tea and Hot &Sour soup. The tea was the proper temperature and the soup was as well. The soup was very good; didn't have that gelatin look or taste. If you like HOT spiced soup, then the soup is for you. We like it HOT &Spicy, so we enjoyed it. Wasn't sure how good the food was so we decided to go with the Dinner for 2 Special. It was a good deal; $12.95 per person: Soup, 2 Egg Rolls, 2 Fried Prawns, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein, Mongolian Beef and Sweet & Sour Chicken. The food came quickly and was served hot. The portions were enough to feed three. Everything was very tasty. The chicken was cut in nice big sized chunks, vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection and the Hot Mustard was nice and SPICY; Loved IT!! The Mongolian Beef could have been hotter in spice, not temperature. So next time I will order Extra Spicy. We will return again and venture deeper into their menu. CONS: One drawback was the VERY Small square plates they provide as dinner plates. They were more like a good sized salad plate, or an appetizer plate. Although they looked nice, they were not an adequate size for all of the food we had. 2nd drawback was the Asian lady who appeared to be the owner or at least the Manager. She was dictating with the wait staff in her native Chinese tongue, which wasn't the issue. The issue was that she appeared to be chastising or reprimanding them in plain public view. Her tirade was Quite Loud and was noticed by several of the tables. People were turning around to see what all of the fuss was about. She wasn't doing it in a teaching manner, but more in an upset angry tone. The issue seemed to be about how the staff was tearing down and setting up tables for the next day. Was quite uncomfortable to see and hear. It put a damper on what was a good pleasant meal otherwise. Upon departure I conversed with the manager about the unsightly wait station. I told her how bad it looked and how I almost turned around and walked out upon sight of it. She feigned thanking me for the feedback and suggestions. I will look for this upon return. If it is still the same, I will call her over, mention it to her again, and then will walk out without eating there! read more

We are 18 year Morgan Hill residents that like to patronize local businesses that deserve it. We had been a long time diner at China Palace up to this year, when we have committed to never return. Ironically not because of their food, which I admit is not bad, specially if you take into account we dont have to drive all the way to SJ to visit some of our favorite Asian fare spots. It was for the poor treatment of a long time customer. The issue is we found hair in our food ( long black straight hair), when we pointed this out to the owner, she said she didn't think it came from the kitchen, but will replace it for us. A few minutes later they came out with a new plate ( they had left out original plate on the table), which ALSO had hair in it. We pointed this out to her and at this point she started to say it must of come from us given that nobody in the kitchen has long hair...at this point we stopped eating, paid our bill and said good bye for the last time. I have tried for several hours to find something positive to write about this place, but I can't...Yes, you get heaping quantities of food, but it's awful. We were a party of 3...hot and sour soup was off on the flavor. The fried dishes were way too greasy...shrimps, pork bits for sweet and sour even tasted a bit rancid...Honey walnut prawns among the worst I've ever had...tons of breading, no meat. Fried rice looked good with all of its bits of pork, peas and carrots, but flavorless. The chow mein was dreadful - again not a hint of any flavoring. Just a bunch of paste...Had a bit of the dim sum...the bbq buns were way too doughy...and again no flavor...We found out this place has been open for 3 years...I don't know who would eat this food...I know it's hard to find GOOD Chinese in this valley, but don't waste your $. Total waste of money. The seafood dish we have ordered was the worst food we had ever had. The seafood smell and tasted really funny, I have no idea as to what it was but it resembled chlorine. Plus it was not a good quality even by the looks of it - tiny pieces of calamari and small scallops that usually come in a cheap variety of frozen prepackaged seafood you can buy at the store. The sauce was awful too. We spat it out after the first bite. To top it off, the waitress was borderline rude and very inattentive we did not even bother complaining about the dish as by the looks of her, it would not even matter anyways. We also wanted to order dim sum but overheard the couple next to us complaining of raw dim sum and the waitress just said that it probably did not have enough time in microwave. Really? I thought it was supposed to be steamed. Very disappointed. Maybe they have better dishes, I do not know but I am not sure i want to risk wasting more money to find out. read more

Absolutely worst customer service I have ever encountered. My husband and I walked in and got a table. Sat there for 20 min before anyone asked us what we want to drink, I told her we were ready to order everything as we had already been there 20 min with no acknowledgment. She never apologized or anything was just rude and said what do you want? Then I told her we wanted the chicken egg role which is listed on their menu and she was rude and said no we don't serve that! No one ordered it! But was so rude about it like I was supposed to know they don't serve it anymore. After she took out order we sat there for 15 more min with no drinks NOTHING! So me and my husband walked out I told her thank you for the customer service and in front of everyone she said bye miss leave! I can't believe a restaurant is still open with this terrible service! I've never had such a shockingly disgraceful experience dining out. I went with three other people, my parents and my boyfriend, four adults, not hard to accommodate and be polite to. When we were first seated, the women that showed us to our table threw (I'm not exaggerating) THREW our menus down onto the table with a thud. We ordered appetizers and drinks but the appetizers never came. After about 30 minutes we got one entree but nothing else, we asked- TRIED TO ASK, the woman what it was and where the appetizers were and she ignored us, after finally grabbing her attention to ask where our food was or if we could at least get some utensils she simply said "fine I'll take it back" and tried to walk off with the only entree we had. All the food finally arrived but getting any water or refills was impossible. One waitress poured water into my boyfriend's soft drink completely ignoring him when he said "no it's soda". The young male server was extremely apologetic although he clearly wasn't at fault, however the women, who I believe are co-owners and such, were absolutely horrid. We were introduced to this restaurant by our Passport dining card which gave us 20% off 2 or more meals. The man who sat us also cleaned, served us, and answered the phone, and took care of the payment. I think I saw one other person working there. Food was fresh. We had mushu pork and Chinese chicken salad. The mushu pork was great - plum sauce was very plummy. The Chinese chicken salad was like a bag of iceberg lettuce salad with little chunks of fried chicken on top. The dressing for the salad was a peanut based dressing but it had way too much garlic in it in my opinion so we asked for a vinegar based dressing instead and were given a little cup of pure straight vinegar. (so we added some sugar to it to improvise and try to achieve the dressing from golden Buddha in San Jose). Oh and the pad thai was awesome I think we would return again if we were in the area and craving Chinese. read more

Food was excellent. The young man who waited on us was very nice but had way too many tables and was way too young and inexperienced to handle a table of 11. We waited a minimum of 1 hr for our food, received appetizers and main courses simultaneously. Our cocktails needed help and they took forever to arrive. The bathrooms were disgusting, had not been cleaned all night, the wine glasses were filthy dirty, needed to be sent back, took 10 minutes to get clean ones, there were bins and bins of piled up dirty dishes everywhere upon our arrival, empty boxes, dirty napkins everywhere and it only got worse by time we left. So after finally enjoying our food we all paid and got up and left. We were pulling out of our parking spot when I saw our waiter running out to let me know he didn't charge us for our crappy cocktails...so I had to go back in, spend another 10-15 minutes watching the disaster continue. The owner was blaming our waiter and arguing with another waitress. I finally kind of lost it and told her the problem was ownership (her) and the fact that the whole operation was mismanaged (understaffed, untrained) and I had never seen anything as bad. She told me she was 1 person short this evening and that was why....BS, she needs 2 bus boys (minimum) and at least 2 experienced Servers to begin to solve these issues... Anyway, great food but not worth all the waiting and drama and dealing with the major hygiene issues. read more

We came in a group of around 16. The number floated around and one couple never showed up. So, our slow start was really all because of our not wanting to order until everyone arrived. I cannot fault the restaurant for being slow with service. They really tried to get things going on time. Fortunately, our group is a social one and we did not care that food did not arrive for a while. It was really delicious and everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner. In addition, the portions are quite large so people were happily taking food home. We order Peking Duck with buns and it was plenty for two of us to share. The meat was very tasty. Our other dish was kung pao prawns which were crispy and delicious. Sauce was just right. We also ordered brown rice which I think is a nice touch over white. I think China Palace is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Morgan Hill. We were set up in the private room and were well attended by staff especially considering it was a Friday night. They were willing to provide separate checks which is big with this group. Even with only two dishes, we had food to take home. I have been to China Palace many times and it's my favorite Chinese food restaurant in Morgan Hill. The ambiance is very nice, it's very clean and enjoyable to eat there. The food is always very good and much fresher and appealing than a lot of other restaurants. The fried rice is very fresh, light and not greasy, unlike so many other places. We love their honey walnut prawns--everyone has to try these and they go very well with the fried rice or chow mein, because they are sweet and yummy! I always order their won ton soup or wor won ton soup, whenever I am not feeling well and want something warm and comforting for my tummy. I have eaten in the restaurant quite a number of times and love to go there or be taken there with one of my friends for my birthday lunch or theirs. On week nights, my husband and I usually order take out and we've always been very happy with the food and selection. Their banana dessert is very good! Lily is the owner and very accomodating and helpful, always. I do ask for the food to be cooked without MSG & it's great! The service could be faster and better, though, so yes, they do need more cooks and wait staff, if you want to dine on site. read more
