This place has a beautiful entrance. The aesthetic in the front of the resturant is lovely. They have a fairly wide selection of Chinese food, Japanese hibachi grill, sushi, salad, desserts, and fruit. There's something for everyone. There are maybe two asian desserts but the rest is standard like cheese cake, confetti cake, etc. There is also a section for fresh fruit and salad as well as a couple of soup options. I was very pleased with my visit here. My server was polite and courteous. I will be returning in the future. This was money well spent. read more

For us being a family of 5 we tend to do more buffet style restaurants since we all prefer different foods, buffets usually satisfy everyone. We have been to many Chinese buffets, some great and some wonderful. I don't think we have ever ate at one place and all agreed that there was not one single item on that buffet that was good until we ate here! We tried, we really did. We each got a plate sat down and begun eating and quietly looked at each other and shook our heads at the items we tried to eat, so we got up and tried at another plate. As we took a bite or two out of each item we all piled our plates to the middle of the table. I gave one star because the buffet staff was on point with bringing in new food. But other than that the food was awful, the place stunk, the booth we sat at was duct taped and felt greasy, the table was not cleaned off before the waitress sat us down, she also complained about new policies to the customers and even pissed off a table next to use to where the customer was yelling. I've been to China Star quite a few times since it has opened. There are 3 long steam carts of food, 3 more long non-steam carts of salads and desserts, a hibachi grill, a sushi area and a corner for ice cream. It is usually about $10-12 bucks a person (depending on when you go), lunch prices are a little cheaper. Each time I've visited (except for this last time) has been good. Food is always good and hot, restaurant is clean, wait staff is ok, good choices in food. I always left full and without a complaint. This past Sunday 6/23 me, my husband, mother and step-father went there for my step-father's birthday. This visit was noticeably different for all of us to the point where it became a topic of conversation as we dined. First thing that was noticed was there was food all on the floor near the area we were sitting. Not just tiny crumbles of food, there was big pieces of food, large crabs and other debris on the floor that everyone was walking over and no one bothered to clean up (until we were finished with our meal and about to leave someone finally decided to come and clean it up). The food cart (buffet area) had food scattered on the counter around it (I've never seen this before here, normally it was always clean). They were out of nearly everything. We asked for straws; there was none, there was no sugar/artificial sugar trays on the tables; had to ask for those, there was no spoons -- anywhere, they were out of shrimp and oysters and other foods. The desserts were different -- very different...they only had cake where as before they would have cookies, cake, puddings, jello, cheesecake, etc. The type cake they had was the homemade type (something you'd make yourself)...which ok, whatever but normally they'll have the typical Chinese cakes in different flavors (coffee, orange, strawberry, vanilla, etc). They use to have buckets of ice cream where you'd go and scoop out yourself. They changed that to little cups of ice cream (which is a little more sanitary than having everyone scoop their ice cream) but they only had 2 flavors and not very many of those. We still had to pay the price for the buffet even though there was things that were out. Though each time I've visited the wait staff hasn't been the best. I think with some care and training from managers they could have better wait staff. I sure hope this was just a little hiccup this one time from them. I'll be back but not if they have continued to go downhill like this last visit. read more

Even with the sushi and hibachi bar, out of all the Chinese buffets I've been to in the Golden Triangle, this one had the least appealing items and selection. Honestly, this place doesn't even deserve 1 star. Came at a regular dining time, 7:00, and that was the literally the worst Chinese buffet I've ever eaten. Flies, the food looked three days old, even the "fresh hibachi" buffet was disgustingly bland. This place only gets one star because our server was attentive and never let our table fill up with plates or let our drinks go empty. When we walked in we waited in line less than 3 minutes no big deal get to counter and pay for two adult buffets and two sweet teas total was 36.90 which wasn't to bad. Once we were seated at our table me and my boyfriend went to the Buffett browsed around and got a few little thing he got the fried rice and general TSO he said it was ok but not great. I got a small scoop of fried rice and 2 pieces of battered chicken with a little bit of sweet and sour. Both in my opinion were not good at all the fried rice didn't seem cooked long enough and was flavorless the battered chicken barely had any chicken in it and tasted like corn dog batter. I wasn't impressed one bit and neither was my boyfriend he wouldn't even get up to get another plate. Myself on the other hand decided I wanted to browse a little more see if I could find anything worth eating since I just paid 36.90 for two of us to eat. On my second attempt I got some of the salt and pepper shrimp which the flavor wasn't horrible but they were so hard to peel it wasn't worth the hassle, some of the crab that seem to be fried? It wasn't horrible just not for me. The dumplings were the best part of the meal they were my favorite but once again for the price I paid I should've been able to find more than dumplings that were worth eating. Did I mention they didn't have any orange chicken or bourbon chicken out our whole visit?!? That was definitely a huge disappointment. Most food was good, some could have been better. They do offer a kids buffet according to height! Seriously?! My son is only ten but he's 5'1", so they charged him for a adult buffet (he ate two slices of pizza and a roll). They seriously have a height chart on their wall by the register. The food was fresh and well prepared. The selections on the buffet were very extensive, with sushi bar, four soup choices, many different meat, vegetable and bread choices as well as a variety of desserts and an ice cream dispenser. I tried the Hot and Sour soup which is normally one of my favorites. It was good, but not quite as tasty as I expected. The Hibachi plate offered all the typical types of meat and other things to add. I chose a good portion of fresh shrimp, some chicken and one piece of pork. All were cooked properly and with the addition of the Teriyaki sauce, were a pleasure to eat. On my next visit I will definitely try the Thai seafood soup, which looked very good, but may not be for everyone, since the shrimp were cooked in the soup (whole shrimp, antennae and all). The salad bar and the dessert area seemed to have all of the typical choices of a good chinese buffet, and the service was very good, without being too hovering. Price with beverage ran about $12.00 per person for my party of 3. (Weekend). The normal price is a little less on week days. Definitely glad to have this added to our dining choice in the Beaumont area, and I recommend it for a nice meal with enough choices for even the discerning patron. read more

I wanted to write this review because a lot of previous comments were made about the customer service and also the quality of food and cleanliness at this establishment. First off, I went into their bathroom to wash my hands, and although the initial doors to get there are sketch, the facilities were clean and well managed. As for the food, everything was hot and prepared fairly well, in regards to seasonings and taste. Typical food served at any buffet! If you go during dinner hours, they serve seafood options and it's only a few dollars more, per person. In comparison to other all-you-eat Chinese buffets in different states, they charge around 15$ for lunch, these guys charge about 10$ and dinner is usually 20$ but they charge about 13$ person. They have a large selection of items and definitely meet the requirements for being an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT restaurant. My hubby and I visited for DINNER, this past THURSDAY, and they had each and every station jam packed with food so no shortages or cutting corners, when we were there, at about 6pm. Everything was clean and well prepared and stocked to the brim. The sushi station was a bit disappointing because it seemed like it was pre-made, long before it was served so the temperature of the rice felt like it was refrigerated hours before and it just didn't taste extremely fresh but overall, this isn't a sushi bar soooooooo, I didn't judge them harshly for their sushi making skills. In regards to their regular food, they had loads of options that were delicious .... Try their roast beef, grilled salmon, hibachi station (pick and choose anything you like and they cook it right in front of you, on a flat metal grill), General Tso chicken, hot crab casserole, spring rolls, bbq chicken skewers, etc .. and the list goes on! You will definitely be full and happy, by the end of your meal! ....Now, as for customer service, the people were super friendly, very tentative and observant to always take dirty plates off of tables, fill water cups and re-fill drinks (we were observing other tables also) and they smiled and kept asking if everything was ok! ..... I was very impressed with their service and gladly will return with my hubby or co-workers, in a few weeks. One thing I should mention is that if you're looking for some great desserts, their section was full of only a few options and none really hit the spot for us. The quality wasn't there unless you want to eat jello or pudding. They had melon & orange slices, plus some random sheet cake options but again, you don't go to a Chinese restaurant for their amazing dessert selection so I figured I would be fair and rate them a 4/5. Yes, this place has gone down since it opened, but I was still eating there on occasion. But now they have made a deliberate change that I cannot tolerate. They upped the price of the buffet, but now include a drink with your buffet. You have no choice but to get and pay for a drink. I am a water drinker. I always get water most anywhere I go. Every other restaurant in town gives you a choice. This one no longer offers you that choice. I will no longer eat here. Avoid this place. This place is not a good place for Chinese buffet. When I arrived, I was greeted by a less than happy hostess. She did not smile even once and seemed mad she had to be at work. Though there were numerous tables open, she wanted to seat my party of two way, way in the back. I guess I looked like a second rate citizen or something? They have a hibachi you can order fresh prepared food at, but I opted to get just whatever was on the buffet. It was edible, but I am almost certain it was not within specifications for safe food. The steam was definitely visible from the buffet tables, but the food seemed luke-warm. Maybe it was still cool from being in the fridge from the day before or something? I don't know. When we went to pay for our meals, we told the lady at the register about the issues we had, but she could not care less. She just acted shocked, but unconcerned. CHIN STAR do not get a star from me at all, I ask the waitress do the drink come free with the meal and she said yes, she charge me for the drink and I was made to pay for the drink by the manger. Not only that they never clean the table off. my grandson was 6 and I was also told that he was to eat for free, but I had to pay. Not only do they lye to the customer, they are rue and unclean. This was without a doubt the absolute worst experience I've ever had. The food was cold and multiple items tasted spoiled. My daughters soda was soapy and we had to witness a fight between some meth heads waitresses and the owner. And after that they still overcharged us! We were charged as 3 adults and 3 drinks even though it was 2 adults, 1 child and 2 drink and a glass of water. I would have complained but again the owner was arguing with meth heads and the cashier kept informing us she would 'go to prison' if the meth heads didn't stop filming her. Against my better judgment I decided to take my family here,first I have tall children,they don't price according to age but height,2 of my children were charged the adult price and in reality my husband should have paid children's price,they didn't budge on that one. That's not a hibachi but Mongolian grill,we might have used it if the meat wasn't looking a bit green and the chef hadn't been storing the broccoli under the sink uncovered. Sushi chef wouldn't make a simple roll without dill pickles, I've never eaten nor want to again sushi with dill. They are not special needs friendly,my daughter takes a while to finally pick what she can eat,most of the food was stuck to the trays from being on the heating table too long, I had to go in search of a waitress for drink refills but just as soon as they wanted to close the area we were seated in down the waitress hovered for 30 minutes and kept asking how I was going to pay?!
