Mongolian Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Fried Rice, Chow Mein
    Rony Q.

My friend and I came around 11am and both got 2 item combos. They really LOADED the plates up with food too! I got the sesame chicken and Mongolian chicken with half chow mein and half fried rice. My friend got the orange chicken and spicy chicken with half half as well! Everything was really good, but the orange chicken and sesame chicken was dry and tough instead of moist, tender, and crispy. Would come back and test it again because maybe it was just this batch.

Every single time I'm in Long Beach I make sure to get China Star. They're very generous with portion sizes and the food is always fresh. I love this place and refuse to eat any other Chinese food.

    Orange Chicken and Fried Rice

First time coming here, clean place food is terrible fried rice is ok orange chicken is old refried then topped with ALOT! of sauce but it's super dry and chewy, never going back!

Food: Fried Rice, Chow Mein, Beef + Broccoli, Teriyaki Chicken and Thai tea without boba was $20.13. Food was good and they give enormous portions. This is your local Chinese food spot with a lil stank on it. Service: Average. Ambiance: whole in the wall.

A very solid Chinese fast food option and walking distance from CSULB. Being in that prime location, they could choose to gouge you, but they don't. The prices are very affordable and the portions are huge. What is unique about China Star is there are a decent amount of vegetarian and vegan alternatives on the line. There is an eggplant Tofu dish, an all veggies dish, and one of the pho options is vegan. And, oh yeah, they have Pho and it is great! They also have bubble tea and a bunch of other things, but I stick mainly to the 1 or 2 item combos or the pho. Check it out!

This Chinese food restaurant is a popular spot for CSULB students and construction workers. It's close to CSULB, and it's never super crowded in here! I got the 1 Item Combo with Chow Mein, Fried Rice, and Orange Chicken. The portions are good for being under $10, and there was a sign that says for a limited time, combos get a free medium drink from 3-6pm. The Chow Mein is good, the Fried Rice is pretty good too, and the Orange Chicken isn't too crunchy or too soft, and it's flavorful! The employees are nice, I've never had a bad experience with them. The restaurant has plenty of seating both outside and inside. It's decently clean, it just looks like any typical Chinese food restaurant. I would come here again. The prices are good, the food is good, and the employees are nice!

My girlfriend and her friends frequent this place and this happened to be my first of infinite visits. It's by far the best fast food Chinese I have ever had. I heard good things about it and since moving to the area, I wanted to land a great place to bring home quality Chinese. It's a clean restaurant and great food. I went with the three combo plate (which for the price isn't bad at all) I got the amazing chow mein and fried rice with beef broccoli and orange chicken and their mushroom chicken. The orange chicken and the sesame chicken that my girlfriend got were both crispy and had enough flavor on them. The broccoli was tender and the mushroom chicken was glorious. Big pieces of mushrooms and zucchini with chunks of chicken. It came with a free drink for my combo so that was cool. I loved how the chow mein had more noodle than cabbage. That was a huge plus. I'll be frequenting this spot a lot in the future.

Cheap food on the go. It's decent for the price, and the portions are solid. The rice and noodles really fill you up and their eggplant w/ tofu was cooked well. Given the long line around dinner time, a lot of people appreciate the affordable food that doesn't skimp on taste.

Came here on a Saturday around 2:00pm no wait to order. Parking in lot. Not a lot of seating. Ordered a bowl with chow mein and orange chicken. Chow mein was good, orange chicken some pieces were a bit rough/hard to eat. On the oily side too. Overall price to taste it is okay.

($15) 2 side plate/ Mushroom Chicken and teriyaki chicken

Wanted to give this place a try since it's so close to campus. Walked in and there was not many options to choose from :( Picked out the sides that you can't really go wrong with. And well the serving was a decent amount. The taste however was super bland especially the fried rice and chow mein, absolutely no flavor at all. Next time I'll just stay on campus \_*^*_/

The boba drinks are delicious, especially the taro. The pho soup is really good and fresh. Always nice to get take-out.

Today we were approaching hangry, and knew that if we ordered a lunch special, we'd get delicious soup almost instantly, and we'd have leftovers for dinner! My partner was craving the kung pao tofu which blends with the brown rice beautifully, as does my order, the Chili Chicken, so garlicky and tender. We were also craving the spicy green beans, the perfect blend of crunchy and tender, spicy with the perfect touch of sweet! Be sure to consider some of our other favorites: the hand made chow mein (noodles alive and freshly made), the beef is simply crazy tender and lovely, ANY of the vegetables and tofu, and all their soups are to die for. They make their own ginger ale; but if you are wanting to boost your immunity or simply avoid the sugar syrup, I paid for a ginger ale but requested just the ginger juice (super hot and strong), and drank half and chased it with my diet coke and poured the rest in my soda for a ginger diet coke with lemon (yum). So much parking, trader joes next door if you need groceries, family owned and run, and OH, by the way, it's all HALAL (i.e.,) no pork dishes

Overall, we had a good dining experience, but there was one thing that really bothered us. We were still dining around 8:00 PM when the staff started cleaning the tables with bleach. The smell was extremely strong and made it uncomfortable to continue eating. We ended up quickly finishing our dinner and leaving because the bleach odor was overwhelming. I understand that cleaning is necessary, but I feel it would be better to do this after guests have finished dining, especially while the restaurant is still serving customers. Other than that, we enjoyed the food, service, and ambience.

Dan Modern Chinese has indoor & outdoor seating, and we came on a weekday around 7:15PM. It wasn't crowded at all & the hostess let us pick to sit wherever we wanted. Typically we understand when it's busy if the servers cannot drop by our table for an introduction, but it was lowkey kind of a long time before our server even came to greet or give waters. To the point where we almost walked out (we couldn't flag anyone down & no one looked our way). We ordered Mapo Tofu w/Crab, Xiao Long Bao's, Pickled Cucumbers, Scallion Pancake, Fried Dumplings. Everything tasted super yummy, my favorite was the scallion pancake bc it was on the crispy side!! We'd love to come back again and try and hopefully have better service. I wanted to find out if this spot was as good as I had remembered it. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I was practically disappointed by two out of the three dishes. Two of them that should've been the best. I'll start out with the Mongolian beef. There was plenty of meat and onions and green onions, but there was no kick to it, not the greatest flavor either. It was also a little watery, which was a major letdown for me. I was really looking forward to enjoying it with the white rice that came with it. Next up was the chicken chow mein. I was expecting to have long noodles in its to go box but when I was eating it, it was small noodle cuts. That was a bit shocking for me. It also didn't have a lot of great flavor, and again I was let down. I did get vegetable fried rice, because who could actually screw that up. It was the best dish out of the three. Not a ton of flavor in it but enough for me to actually enjoy it. I tried using the leftover chow mein by putting it in a skillet and adding a few spices and oils. It improved it just a little bit, but not enough. Clearly, I can't go back here. It's like they say: buy cheap get cheap.

She did not let me down as we walked in and noticed how truly authentic it was going to look. Chinese decor on the walls and boxes of restaurant supples in the corners. Just as it should be. The bonus was that they had a TV showing the NBA Finals when we arrived. Pretty nice touch and in the back of the restaurant so as not to distract everyone. We went with a couple of our favorite dishes to run along and the Chicken Lo Mein was pretty good. Crispy pieces of chicken and soft noodles and veggies to go with it. We chose to get Mongolian Beef and it was absolutely fantastic. Crispy celery, green onions and decent sized pieces of meat in a terrific sauce. I would love to try to replicate that. My wife wanted a shrimp dish so she ordered the honey walnut and it even looked good to me when they brought it. She loves egg rolls, so she got a four piece and said they were pretty good. My biggest wow of the visit was their vegetable fried rice. MY GOD. I dont know what they season or flavor it with, but every fork full of rice that i ate, it was this sense of flavor that reminded me of butter or something else. I really loved the sensation i experienced from this particular dish. I am really curious on what it actually is. There's loads of amazing Thai places in Long Beach but you tend to go you the ones you like. I been to a good amount where they're highly rated but something about them isn't what I'm looking for. Some tends to be very Americanize, others are just whatever but people love them. I like what I like and this place is one of them. Like mentioned, whenever I'm in Long Beach a visit here is always a must. The service is amazing as all the staffs are very friendly and welcoming. The place isn't that big but a fairly decent amount of seating on both side. They do have a table out front but it's only one. Menu has pretty much a good selection of Thai dishes. I like what I like and tend to go for the same items as they are one of the place that makes it the way I prefer. And why is it some Thai places don't offer their classic dish, the boat noodles. I've been to a few and they don't offer it while some places, it's not that good. Here, it's alway consistent and very flavorful. That a must for me and alway ordered. We also love the papaya salad which you can have Thai style or Laos style. Depending on what your preference is. Their larb is great as well. Very flavorful and tasty. Of course our main items we tend to get here, the boat noodles which I love as it's flavorful, broth is perfect and all the extras added. Also all their curries are excellent. Lately we've been getting their massaman curries which the flavors is really nice. Whatever protein you like. The curries do come with a side of rice but an extra order is alway needed. Love it to have with the papaya salad and larb. All their dishes are great and very flavorful. There's two restaurants that's a door apart and both are great but this one takes the cake for me. It's always a must when I'm in town as I know the food will alway be delicious. Highly recommended. Heads up, parking in the area is a bitch. It's all residential so people tend to stay in or else they're going to lose their spots. Just a heads up.
