My first experience with China West Express was less than satisfactory. The mediocore, luke warm entree that I recieved via delevery was not only a let down but was also overpriced. Unfortunanly, the bad food was not the worst part. The delivery driver arrived in an unfriendly manner and proceded to complain about his job. He spoke in a negitive manner twards several of my co-workers and I. Although I was extremely hungry, I began to lose my appitite when I noticed his extremely long and greasy nostril hairs pertuding from his oily nose. His red shirt complimented a rash that seemed to be developing on his upper lip in his mustache. I began to feel uneasy as if my overpriced meal was unsanitary due to the unhygenic smell and apperance of the delevery boy. After this unplesent interaction he made sure to coment on our time together by complaining about the tip he undeservingly recieved. Industry standard (according to www.today.com) states that a tip should be between 15% and 20%. I left a 23% tip for awful service and a spoiled appitite and he was still ungreatful. read more

I ended up paying a total of $25 for a simple orange chicken plate. And it was one of the worst orange chicken I have ever had, I am extremely disappointed and will never order food from here again. My wife ordered the Sha Cha Chicken. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and my son the Orange Chicken. We tried this place for the first time because Chinese Delivery places in Irvine are far and in between. Wife liked her's but needed to add a spicy sauce to it for flavoring; meanwhile, mine wasn't spicy and more soupy than anything. My son liked the orange chicken but usually eats it all (anywhere else) this time he stopped halfway. Not sure what is up with this place and we are indifferent. The egg rolls tasted like they were at least three days old... And their sweet and pungent shrimp and broiled shrimp in watery tomato sauce. I just ordered lemon chicken, veggie chow mein and cream cheese wontons for delivery. Menu said lightly breaded chicken, pan fried in lemon sauce. The chicken came like a cut up Tyson patty with the "lemon" sauce in a cup on the side. The lemon sauce tasted like lemon koolaid with a ton of honey in it. The chow mein is at least edible but not the best I've ever had, a little too much garlic. The cream cheese wontons are good, but how hard is it to mess up cream cheese in fried dough.... I gave them 3 stars because of how user friendly their online ordering was, the portion size, and how quick the food was delivered. It does make me wonder how the food would be if eaten at the restaurant. If you're wanting Chinese food, I wouldn't recommend this place. I believe I've found the BEST Chinese food that delivers to Irvine! From the fried cream cheese, which was hot, crispy & soft to the best tasting chicken chow mein ever makes me so happy! It was an easy process to order online, then they sent me a text saying what time they expect my food to be here. It actually arrived 30 mins sooner than it was supposed to! I have normally loved this place. I order from them about once a week so they get a lot of my business. I don't know if this is a new guy, but as soon as I opened the door, he said "wow, that was a long drive" and I brushed it off like nothing. Then before he leaves, he has the audacity to ask for MORE TIP MONEY!! I already tip through GrubHub on my card so I don't have to worry about it. He goes to tell me my tip is not enough to cover his gas money because it was "such a long drive". I live in Irvine. He drives from Tustin. It's not that far and we have never gotten a complaint from any other driver. The delivery charge ranges from $2-$4 depending on your distance from them. Isn't THAT supposed to cover their gas?? I placed an order for delivery from them today. The delivery was half the time that they had told me. So that was definitely a positive aspect. They lemon chicken was very good. I ordered it with the sauce on the side. The egg rolls were also very good. I was disappointed by the steamed rice. it was sticky and over cooked. Maybe we just ordered the absolute worst things on the menu, but everything aside from the Orange Chicken was flavorless! Not just ok, but absolutely flavorless. Inedible. The House Special Beef had no flavor. The veggies were ok, but that was the only thing about it that was good. The Orange Chicken was good, no complaints about that, but I can get Orange Chicken anywhere. The BBQ Pork was also flavorless, which seems hard to do considering it is supposed to be BBQ flavor. It is not. The meat was tender, which was the only redeeming quality to that dish. Both of the soups tasted like water. Not even exaggerating one bit. i could barely choke down a spoonful of each to try. The fried rice wasn't even fried. It was soy sauce on white rice. I couldn't believe they couldn't even do fried rice. We spent $60 on this meal and threw all of it but the orange chicken in the trash. The Kung Pau Chicken was bland and over-done and BTW; zucchini does NOT belong in Chinese food. Those who reviewed the Lemon Chicken must either have no taste buds OR had theirs made fresh. This is one of the few delivery Chinese restaurants in the area. They are open at convenient time, and the delivery is pretty fast. The food is good, and well-packaged for delivery. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that sometimes certain dishes can be hit-and-miss, and when you factor out the delivery convenience and focus solely on quality of the food, there are some other restaurants out there that give them a run for their money.
