We usually stick to the same Chinese spots, but we came across this place through an ad and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did -- it's now one of our new go-to spots! It truly feels like a hidden gem with a cozy "mom and pop" vibe that we love. The service is always fast, and everyone there is really nice and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. They used to have orange cauliflower on the menu, and I really wish they'd bring it back! As a vegetarian, I'm always excited to find unique options like that. Hopefully one day it makes a comeback, lol. Their chow mein is amazing -- great noodles and full of flavor. This really is just OK Chinese food. I got the Kung Pao Shrimp with white rice. The shrimp was surprisingly tasty but the rest of it lacked any real flavor. It was covered in oily sauce but there was not flavor penetrating the vegetables. The white rice was cooked nicely and was fluffy. My family and I were craving some Chinese fast food after a long day of travel. I didn't feel like cooking that evening, so we decided to place an order at this restaurant for pick up. I had placed the order about one hour before arrival, and informed the restaurant when we would be arriving to pick up our food. When we arrived, the food was not ready (which was a bit maddening). I understand that sometimes restaurants are understaffed, but they had plenty of time to get everything prepared before the promised pick up time. & if you were wondering, The food was NOT worth the wait. it was overcooked, burnt to a crisp, and completely inedible. I would not feed this food to my dog. Anyhow, Almost everything we ordered had to be thrown in the rubbish bin. The sight of the food completely disgusted me. I will not be ordering from this establishment again. Panda express would be a better option to satisfy Chinese fast food cravings. Used to be a great place. Last 5-6 tries have been awful. Avoid the sweet n sour chicken, it's just dried, burnt, pieces of fat--no chicken. Prices went up, quality went below decent. Waste of money. Okay food and questionable cleanliness.. What I disliked about my experience: while waiting for my food, I see the one chef step away from cooking to blow his nose and go right back to cooking without handwashing or sanitizing. A few minutes later I see another worker peeling vegetables on a table next to me with no cutting board or mat being used - he just poured the veggies directly onto the table and is peeling them into a delivery bag with no gloves. I don't expect these A1 cleanliness from these types of places, but as a customer these actions are pretty gross. This place is really just a ghost kitchen and tailored more for delivery/takeout. As the photo below shows, I've been ordering here regularly, literally for years. Food was always consistent, delivery was always within 45 minutes. Last month I placed an order and was surprised to get a text that Uber Eats would be delivering my order. When they didn't show up after an hour, I went to call the restaurant and realized I had missed texts from the Uber Eats driver asking what my address was. Then there was a picture of the food left in front of a door I didn't recognize and the house number in the photo wasn't even close to the number I provided. I tried texting and calling the Uber Eats number; the texts were rejected and the number directed me to a pre-recorded message that the number wasn't available. I called China West, explained the situation and they looked it up, then called me back and said they confirmed it was delivered to the wrong address, but said I'd have to take it up with Uber Eats. I explained I didn't order from Uber Eats; I'd ordered directly from the China West Express website. The person said they couldn't do anything; I'd have to contact Uber Eats and hung up. China West Express is a little hole in the wall place that just might be your best bet for Americanized Chinese food in Tustin. Although they do have a few tables inside, it is primarily a to go place. I've yet to see anyone eating inside. The to go orders are very well packed up, so much so the food will still be hot when you get it home. The place is a 15 minute drive for me. The folks who run the counter have always been very friendly and polite. The entrees are cooked to order, which is far superior to a nearby competitor's practice of serving food out of chaffing dishes. Expect about 10 minutes for your order to come out, but it could be a little longer if they are busy. No biggie. Their generously portioned Lunch Box deal is a great value. For $10.99 you get your choice of entree, your choice of chow mein or white rice, your choice of egg flower or hot and sour soup, your choice of a canned soft drink, an egg roll, and a fortune cookie. This place is tucked into a small shopping center, so it's a little hard to find, but I was pleased with my order here. It's solid Chinese American food at a decent price. I ordered their orange chicken box lunch and it came with orange chicken, hot and sour soup, an egg roll, a fortune cookie, and chow mein. The portion was very generous for $9.99 and the food came out in under 10 minutes. The orange chicken could have been a little more tender, but overall, I enjoyed its citrusy and savory flavor. And it didn't hurt that they really packed in the chicken into the plastic to-go box, so that there were no air pockets between the meat. The chow mein was flavorful and less oily than other spots. The eggroll was fine, nothing too exciting. The hot and sour soup impressed me because it came packed with tofu, egg, bamboo shoots, mushroom slices, and black fungus. The flavor was intense and tasted very much like what you'd find at Tasty Noodle House, only a little less spicy. I love supporting small businesses but I was so disappointed by this one :( First of all the bald manager and the evening cashier (I think he's supervisor) were so rude when I tried getting clarification on an order / meal. For no reason either :( I thought ok no worries they're probably stressed with the small business, I totally understand. When I got my order I said thank you have a great day, nothing treated me like they were doing me a favor by giving me the food I paid for and tipped for.... Like really? I would rather go to panda in that case. Also, remember how I wanted clarification on an order? This is our favorite Chinese delivery restaurant. The food is tasty, delivered hot (and fast!), and we've never been disappointed in the quality. We order the Large servings of the entrees. Usually we get the cashew chicken, beef broccoli, and either chicken or beef kung pao. We like being able to switch the side of each with chow mein noodles and fried rice from the included white rice (for a small additional charge). Delivery on many orders have been freaky fast. We're not big fans of their egg rolls, but that's just us. We actually prefer Chung chicken egg rolls from the market, so we bake them home in time for the delivery. WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD WITH TAKE OUT! I wouldnt have even given this restaurant a star but yelp made me in order to post this. I normally don't write reviews because I can get over a lot of things fairly quickly, but China West Express is an establishment you should AVOID. Today I placed an online order with China West Express along with a friend who also ordered separately. From the website I placed an order from a 3rd party site that it directed me to for noodles and soup. Order was placed at 12:21pm with a pick up time of 12:41pm. I arrived around 12:40pm, I entered the restaurant and immediately realized the customer service was poor as the workers didn't acknowledge me or my friend upon entering, I had to say hello first. I tell the man I'm picking up two orders for my friend and I. I give names, he checks, he only has my friends order. He tells me there is no order for me, and doesn't bother to check with any other employees to confirm. I look at my confirmation to make sure and he proceeds to tell me he does not have an order under my name. I leave the restaurant in confusion. Around 2pm I receive a call saying my order is ready for pick up and had been waiting for over an hour. I left the restaurant at 12:45pm, they called me 2:05pm, the order had been sitting for more than an hour until the decided to give me a call. I was not going to drive back to pick up cold, stale food. Especially after they sent me away telling me they didn't receive my order?? Hell no! I called back after work around 5pm and requested a refund for the order they told me they didn't receive and that I never received at the time I was supposed to pick up. The owner denied my refund and blamed me for not coming back to pick up my order. He argued with me over the phone until I decided this guy is a piece of shit and ended the phone call. I honestly can't believe any establishment, let alone the owner would treat their guest this way. Think twice about eating here, if this is the quality of customer service they provide, I could just imagine the what quality of food is like. As for my refund, I'll let AMEX handle it. Try Hong Kong Express down the street if you want great customer service and food. read more

I loved this place but after it caught fire it was never the same. Staff says it takes 10 minutes but it will be 20+ minutes usually so I end up wasting time on my lunch. Quality of the food is the same which it is delicious. Staff needs to be retrained. Especially front of house. Our fave local place recently closed so we're trying out other spots. This will definitely not be our new one. The food was ok overall, nothing special, the steak wasn't great quality. Not really worth the high prices. The biggest issue is that the "cream cheese wantons" are actually crab rangoon!! Please please please change your menu to let people know. Thankfully I just have an aversion to seafood, but shellfish allergies are deadly. It makes no sense not to explicitly state that there is crab in them. Maybe I'm just naive but unless it has crab in the name, I'm not expecting it and I have to imagine there are others out there who are in for a nasty surprise. Edit: OK, I'll believe you if you say there's no crab in them, so I'll just warn everyone there is orange chunky stuff inside the cream cheese wontons that tastes absolutely disgusting. Was very pleasantly surprised with my first takeout order from China West Express! The staff was very polite and made sure to confirm my order clearly. It was ready quickly and prices are reasonable. Most important the food was very delicious with generous portions. I ordered the house tofu, Szechuan eggplant, house special fried rice, and hot & sour soup- all excellent!! The soup had the dried fungus mushrooms, bamboo shoots & tofu in it with full authentic flavor. Some places serve it very watered down with canned mushrooms and hardly anything else in it. Very small restaurant with big tasty food and very friendly staff. Stopped by for a quick lunch, noticed they have a super great value lunch special that we couldn't resist. Staff working the counter was extremely accommodating even though this restaurant appears to mainly function as a to-go place, given the extremely limited seating. We just moved to Irvine and nobody has time to cook when you're tired from hauling heavy stuff around. We were in the mood for noodles, this popped up and offered delivery. We ordered the orange chicken, broccoli beef and Kung Pao delight, which was a blend of chicken, beef and shrimp in the amazing taste of Kung Pao stir fry. The entrees came with white rice but we choose Fried rice on one to try it out and it didn't disappoint. The order of noodles was also good because they were tossed in some sort of soy sauce mix and were darker than most noodles we've tried. The estimated time of delivery was about 25-30 minutes and it was delivered in time. Very authentic food and will definitely order from here again. read more

Gosh where do I begin. I ordered food off of Chow Now because I received a flyer in the mail and though, why not try something Local. Ordering food was fine I ordered a family meal with orange chicken, orange beef, plain fried rice and wontons and then , a side order of egg flower soup and chicken chow mein. I get a call from the delivery guy that I NEED to come downstairs and get my food, no big deal, people get lost in this apartment complex all the time, so I go downstairs with my 8yr old to pick up the food from the driver. Upon meeting with the driver, he starts telling me that why did I leave him such a small tip, becoming argumentative and super hostile, he scared my son so we went back inside. On TOP of that, I got inside and the rice is missing. I send a complaint through the ChowNow and they call me to ask what happened. I repeat everything and they get me on a three way call with the manager of the restaurant, Ricky. Ricky was not rude, but didn't really seem to want to lose any money. Our conversation consisted of a lot of awkward silence and "oh I'm sorry, really? Are you sure they forgot the rice? The driver was probably upset because it's been a busy day. If you want I can re deliver the rice (which would have arrived well after dinner) or I can refund you the cost of a fried rice. " I opted for the refund because obviously, why should I pay for something I didn't receive. Furthermore, we get off the phone, my family sits down to eat and all the food is super super oily/greasy, like they were in a rush to get it out and sent it out straight from the oil to the plastic containers they came in. No one ate their food, so again, not only did I waste my time waiting for the food, I got a hostile delivery person and my food order wasn't complete on top of the food not being good. I was very hungry driving home from South Coast Plaza, and remembered seeing an advertisement in my mail for this place, so I stopped. The food was delicious, large portions and very inexpensive. They even surprised me with the most delicious egg rolls they packed to go with my order. I ordered Beef Chow Fun, which was loaded with beef and very tasty and then tried their Chicken & Mushrooms. It wasn't as good as the Chow Fun, and next time I'm trying the Honey Walnut Shrimp and the Beef Chow Fun again with Wor Wonton Soup. They are hidden away in the shopping center, and it reminded me of places back in NJ & NY we'd order out from as a kid growing up. I'd give them 5* if there was atmosphere and I ate in the restaurant.
