The lunch crew seems to have taken a hiatus this week but I still have to eat. Not feeling like going anywhere that I've been before, I decided to try Chinese Combo as I pass this every day on the way home from work. Parking is tough as it's close to Costco and other restaurants that are probably filled with people having lunch, just like me. Luckily, there was a spot open somewhat in front of the place so I didn't have to walk too far. It's a cafeteria style serving line where the food is behind glass but under heat lamps. There's a Combo special, Fried Rice and Chow Mein plus two entrees for $6. Not a bad price for how much food they put on your plate. I chose Sweet & Sour Chicken and Mushroom Chicken for my two choices. Don't get the Sweet & Sour Chicken. No amount of salt, pepper or even Srichacha sauce seemed to help bring out the flavor. I guess if you like the syrupy consistency and something that isn't spicy it's for you. It's definitely not for me. I should have went with my first instinct, but often times, it can be chalked up as another learning experience. The Mushroom dish wasn't bad. I love mushrooms so unless the mushrooms haven't been washed thoroughly or if they're slimy and over cooked, I'll eat them like they're candy. The Chow Mein was more of an oily consistency. It's a thinner noodle which isn't my first preference but at least it was edible as well. Rice is rice. Hard to mess up rice and they didn't in this case. Lunch came to $7 with a drink. Not bad for not bad food. Not bad as in not great either so don't go expecting gourmet quality dishes. read more

My boyfriend used to work at Costco and he said this was one of their favorite places to have lunch. I would recommend staying away from the fried rice. The chow mein or white rice is much better. The sweet and spicy wings are pretty tasty - the sauce is like a slightly spicy, thick Teriyaki. The chicken curry is good. It's pretty mild - almost no spice, but I liked it. The Kung Pao chicken was good, too. I didn't like the sweet and sour chicken because it was too soggy. The place was really busy. There were people dining in and lots of customers doing take out. Quite good. I've been to a lot of random cheap Chinese takeout places, and I'd say this is... my *third* favorite. That's not really as bad as it sounds, given that my favorite is a few hundred miles away, and my second favorite was about a thousand. You get a lot of food for 7 bucks, and it's pretty tasty as far as cheap Chinese food goes (of particular note is their chicken curry). Definitely don't ever go to Panda Express or other such chains, if you can possibly go here instead. I like to judge Chinese food places on the quality of their Orange Chicken. If they can't do Orange Chicken right it makes me less inclined to try the rest of the menu. I ordered just a side of Orange Chicken since I wasn't too hungry but I knew I needed to eat... it cost $4 DOLLARS. I PAID $4 DOLLARS FOR A SIDE ORDER OF ORANGE CHICKEN. I should have just walked out and never looked back but I decided to ignore my gut and paid the man. I took my food back and decided to eat... I've had bland food before but THIS takes the cake. It tasted like nothing. If I hadn't forgotten the sriracha the chicken would have been drowning in it. On top of that the chicken was over-cooked. It was dry and stringy. I couldn't believe the audacity this place had to charge $4 for it. I was severely disappointed. I don't mind paying a premium for good food but the keyword is "GOOD". We've had food here a handful of times back then but I could not remember if the food was good or not. There was a deal on Uber eats so the hubs decided on this. They gave a generous amount of food. Definitely didn't skimp on anything like PE. We got half chow mein, half steamed rice, orange chicken, beef and broccoli, spicy beef stir fry and orange chicken wings. My husband also got me a green tea milk tea with boba. I'd rate the food a 6.5/10. The flavor just was not 100% IMO but everyone's taste buds are different. Beef stir fry was not spicy at all but had flavor. Beef to broccoli ratio was nice. Orange chicken was decent but did not have that orange chicken flavor you'd expect. I probably won't order the orange chicken wings anymore either because it was just eh. I wish they had salt and pepper jalapeño chicken wings instead of that. I had to spit it out and on top of that I sipped my iced coffee that didn't even taste like iced coffee. I asked for a new one and the lady couldn't help me. This is the only place my brother will go for take-out Chinese food, b/c he has several food issues (no onions, peppers, raw vegetables, loves chicken but won't eat meat off a bone, etc.). That and this place will actually make a batch of sweet-n-sour chicken as a combo option. This is what I consider standard Chinese take-out fare. Nothing spectacular, but nothing horrid, either. I tend to stay away from orange chicken b/c every one and their mother has it. I go for the stuff like the chicken curry (real light on the curry, but has a nice kick), either of the vegetables (the medley or the tofu with veggies). I get the fried rice, as the chow mien noodles are really thin, besides you can kick up the spice with a squirt of that Sirachi sauce. The place is reasonably clean, the service is prompt and friendly. With all the business and foot traffic in the mall, they seem to be doing fine. But if my brother wants Chinese, I have to get his here...then I go down the street to Chinese Gourmet and get the slightly-spicer fare. I love Chinese food and this was just ok. I had a two-item combo with chow mein, bbq pork and sweet & sour chicken. First, even if you are going to eat there, ask for it to go, you get more in the to go container than on the plate. The chicken and pork were good. Only one piece of onion in the chicken, but I'm not complaining. The chow mein was ok, I like thicker noodles that are not as oily. I also got an egg roll that was ok, a little on the small side, and a diet Coke in a bottle since I was heading to Costco. The total was $9.25 - 5.85 combo plate, 89 cent egg roll, 2.50 for the diet Coke and tax. Seemed a little steep for what it was. The place was clean but when I touched the back of the chair to move it away from the table it felt like many years of grease had never been properly cleaned. Move out of the way, chinese food junkie on the loose! I've been coming to this place during my high school years and the quality of the food has remained the same! It's located by the Costco and sits between It's a Grind coffeehouse and a Subways. Between the many privately owned 'lil chinese food places around Long Beach/ Signal Hill area, it's one of the better ones where local business workers come and swamp the place during lunch hours. I always get their combos which comes with the standard stir fried rice and chow mein. Of course you have the option to get the steamed rice but I just love how the rice and chow mein always seem so fresh and not heat lamp quality. Their orange chicken is moist and basted in their sweet, slightly spicy sauce and their yellow chicken curry is great. It has soft potatoes and carrots with the chicken but the curry is a unique flavor in itself. I adore their sweet and sour chicken which looks similar to the orange chicken but the sauce is a 360 difference! Must try their Kung Pao chicken as well! Now I know chinese gets a rep about being greasy but trust me, compared to the others, this place isn't as greasy at all. I'm sure it's not bad, but as with any restaurant, by the end of the day, they don't make new batches. On both occasions, I've gotten Orange Chicken, which in my opinion is one of the best orange chicken I've had in Long Beach. Other places, the OChik is soggy and dripping with way too much sauce. Here, the OChik was battered correctly, firm with a semi crunchy outside and the sauce was the right amount. Everything else was okay, kinda run of the mill food, though they do give a bigger portion than many other places. Also, I suggest people give it a try before they knock it. Best...Chicken...Curry....Ever. Bar none (so far.) A coworker brought me to this Chinese food spot after being unsure of where to go. From the outside, this place looks like any other Chinese fast food joint, cheesy sign and very plain interior, along with the buffet line style service. My mind changed immediately after trying the food. They serve delicious fare, similar to other places, but done with care. The food doesn't sit out and get hard/crusty. It's constantly monitored and changed. Walking the line, I tried a sample of everything. Sumptuous orange chicken, decadent pork, etc. Then I saw it. Yup, there it was. Chicken Curry. Almost a Japanese style. I could smell it before I had the chance to taste it. They offered a sample which I gladly accepted, and lo and behold it was the most amazing thing I've tasted. I had them serve me up a huge portion of that, and I horked. Yup, HORKED. (look it up). You've gotta try this stuff. It's epic. read more
