Crunchy Tuna Roll and Chiyo Roll

Rolls were good, Tigers Eye was an unusual dish and took forever to cook. Weird vibe when you first enter. Getting seating was odd and threw us off. Quite an interesting experience.

Chiyo is my go to sushi place. The nigiri is fresh and tastes good. They are the closest in flavor that I've had to the sushi I had in Tokyo. When my nephew wanted to try sushi for the first time, we ordered from here!

So I did something a little different this time. I ordered their sushi/sashimi combo and I honestly wasn't sure what "chef choice" pieces they would give me. I was quite surprised at the octopus. I normally like octopus salad and the octopus wasn't bad, personally I wouldn't get it again in this form.

Truly, I'd give it a 3.5 star rating if I could. I came here on a Tuesday night with a friend who is a huge fan of Chiyo. We were seated upstairs and service was relatively friendly. The menu is absolutely gigantic and overwhelming. The specialty rolls have an incredible amount of variety and if you have no dietary restrictions, you'll be in heaven. I stuck to the more basic maki rolls since I'm gluten free. We ordered... - salmon nigiri - tuna nigiri - eel nigiri (for my date) - yellowtail roll - Nataly roll (vegetable roll) - Yu-ki maki roll (to share) - Lesley roll (for my date) Overall, it was okay. I wouldn't order nigiri here again though. It did not taste fresh and the texture was chewy. The tuna was just... not good. My favorites were the yellowtail roll and the Nataly roll. The flavor was good and the texture was nice and crunchy. They also have tamari sauce in case you can't have soy sauce. That said, we ordered the Yu-ki maki roll to share since it appeared to be gluten free (yellowtail and avocado inside; salmon, scallion and wasabi mayo outside). The server then came back up about 15 minutes later to say the roll wasn't gluten free since it had mayo. I was super confused because mayo is naturally gluten free. She then said it was cause of the wasabi. Again, super confused because wasabi is also naturally gluten free. I asked if they could just put the sauce on the side just in case, but the chef had already made the roll. This was a little disappointing since I did mention needing gluten free accomodations before we even ordered. There also seems to be a lack of understanding of which of their ingredients are truly gluten free. It would be great to see their extensive menu marked with some indications of what is gluten free too. The roll came up to the table and was absolutely drowning in the mayo sauce. Allergies aside, I just didn't even like the roll. It would've been better without the mayo, in my opinion. Even my date, who is a Chiyo stan, said this was a disappointing visit for him. I probably won't be rushing back.

this is me after eating at this restaurant. Its sooo good i was sooo full and was sooooo happy after eating this much food. I ate like 67

I think I found my new favorite sushi spot because I've been there twice in one week and loved it both times! They have soooooo many sushi options for all and are reasonably priced. We did dine in both times and service was a little slow the first time but was much better the second time. Def check them out if you want good local sushi!

So..... what's up with those chairs? Let me tell you. My girlfriend wanted to check this place out. I recalled reading reviews on Yelp and was..... hesitant. But, I love some good sushi. And you can't find it until you find it. The place is very unassuming in a cute area with a few other restaurants I'd like to try in the future. It's like somebody's house was converted into a sushi joint. There's just enough parking. I don't know where you'd park if the parking lot is full. Just don't park in the street (is what I was told). About those chairs. When we entered the front door I could immediately see the sushi chefs behind the bar making rolls. BUT.... you also see what appears to be an assembly line for 'to-go' orders being prepared. They have a table set up in the middle of the room with to-go bowls, bags, etc. And you're blocked from entering the room by 4 chairs lined side by side. Huh? What's going on here I thought to myself. They said the dining room is open. We told them we had a reservation and were told to 'come on'. Just move the chair out of the way. Huh? We were led to the upstairs dining room by one of the employees (I assumed she was an employee, who else would be leading us to our table). Everyone was wearing plain ole street clothes. It was like I came to somebody's house and they were serving me. Weird. We had the place to ourselves and were told Sundays were pretty empty. Now, let's talk about that menu! ...talk about information overload; whoa! They literally have hundreds of rolls. I kid you not! I just had to find something and go with it because I got tired of looking. Variety is good yes, but too much is just..... too much. I got edamame, the double ell roll, sunrise roll, and Maryland roll. I liked the sunrise roll, but REALLY liked the Maryland roll! The crab was fresh! Aside from that.... what I'll say its, been there done that. I can check it off my list. I may order in for those few rolls, but I'll stick to my other spots.

Appetizers are special. Dinner combo includes sashimi and beef teriyaki. It has a good price. The second floor for dine in is cozy. But servers don't always stay at the second floor. Sometimes it is difficult to get the service you want in time

For the scallop roll, there was a large baked scallop on each piece of sushi. I thought having something warm on sushi might be odd, but it was delicious! The ambiance is cute and cozy, but a bit stuffy, the person behind me kept hitting my chair lol. The food was mid. I would say I'm a pretty avid sushi eater, this place tries their best, but misses the mark. I enjoyed their appetizers, but actual sushi was bad. The rice is a bit undercooked and has an extra soft texture. It feels a bit too mushy, which feels unnatural. My friend ordered the avocado roll and that was not tasty at all. We asked if we can get it wrote off the bill or returned, but they said "no refund or exchanges!" lol. So we had to take this massive L for the mediocre sushi. That is all; see attached a photo.

The poke had cucumbers, mangoes, avocado, and scallions as well and I felt that the mango with a nice touch to add some sweetness, and it was also very fresh. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was actually pretty legit Japanese. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen Black and the broth was delicious. The noodles were well done and it had a fair amount of toppings. The pork chashu could be better (they were a little dry) but overall, it was very good in a legitimate-Asian approved way. For drinks, I ordered an espresso martini with tequila. Our server suggested adding Baileys to the first one, and while I gave it a try, it quickly reminded me that I am firmly Team No Baileys in my espresso martinis. Thankfully, the second one was exactly how I like it. For food, we started with the house salad, yellowtail roll, and crispy rice with tuna. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. For our entrée, I had my heart set on the miso black cod, but my dining companion is a devoted branzino fan. After talking through both dishes with our server, he strongly recommended the branzino. I'll never admit this to him directly, but the server may have been right. The fish was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. One small thing to note is that we had to ask for soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger after our sushi arrived. This seems to be becoming more common at restaurants these days, and I'm guessing it's an effort to reduce waste, which I can appreciate. It wasn't a big deal at all, but if you're a sushi traditionalist like me, don't be surprised if you need to request the full set of accompaniments. One thing that really stood out was the service. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and honest when we asked about menu items. We mentioned that we were running a bit behind for our show, and he made sure our food came out quickly without making us feel rushed. The restaurant itself is stylish and upscale, though a bit smaller than some of the other waterfront restaurants nearby. There's a nice bar area, sushi bar seating, and a lively atmosphere without feeling overwhelming. They also offer valet parking. We initially assumed it was only for The Ruxton next door since that's where it was stationed, but our server later let us know it's available for Azumi guests as well. Good information for next time! Pricing felt appropriate for a waterfront sushi and seafood restaurant in Harbor East. The portions matched the price point, and we left satisfied without feeling like we overpaid. Overall, Azumi delivered great food, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere. He recommended sushi, so I got a flaming dragon roll (I forget the exact name). Anyways, everyone else also ordered and the food came relatively quickly. Now...when I tell you this is the worst sushi I've ever had. Again, I hate being negative but I have to tell it like it is! When they first presented the dish, it was cool because they serve it on fire. I knew that they had sake in the dish (probably so the flame can keep going after they take it out of the kitchen). However, when I bit into it, the sake was *extremely* overpowering. I couldn't taste anything else except the sake. It was extremely alcohol-heavy and I could not finish the dish. I asked others to try it, and they all agreed that it was too heavy. The prices were also very high for what we got. The only food I enjoyed were the appetizers, but they were still unremarkable. Overall, I regrettably cannot recommend this place. None of the dishes stood out, and the sushi was shocking.
