These guys have a massive specialty sushi menu with a ton of variety. Each roll I've had from them has been very good. While these rolls may be on the pricier side, they are pretty sizable with lots of fresh fish and I find that one roll is filling. They have good lunch specials that include sushi as well as noodle and teriyaki options. Beverage selection includes Japanese beers, sake, and wine. I've only gotten beer from them, which I find to be a little expensive for what it is, however I love the call can of cold beer when it comes out. read more

This is my go to sushi place if I'm not up for a drive out of the County. Chiyo's special rolls are what set it apart from the competition. It's not that they're anything more unique than what you can find elsewhere, but you can tell the ingredients are fresh and well balanced making each piece a pleasing mouthful. All the other non-sushi items are a blend of decent to ho-hum. For example, when I'm in the mood for tempura, the ebi assortment is fine. But regardless of how badly you want teriyaki, I would avoid it. The age tofu is surprisingly well made here, but the udon is lackluster. So really, stick to the sushi and you won't go wrong. One thing that is a guarantee is the good service. The staff is always friendly, quick to bring you what you may need and willing to offer a suggestion if needed. Knowing how difficult their parking situation is, they have been known to run outside to help a customer park/back out of their lot. All that on top of the warm towels before/after you dine and the little boxes of gum with your bill - it doesn't get much more charming than that. read more

I have two favorite sushi spots in Baltimore, a downtown one in Fells and an uptown one in Mount Washington. One of my good friends lives in Owings Mills and suggested that we meet for sushi and sake on a recent Friday evening. Chiyo Sushi, my uptown sushi favorite was the perfect place for us to meet because it's a perfect halfway spot. After looking over the menu at Chiyo, we decided to share a few things because so many items stood out to us. We started with the Tuna Surf Board which really did look like the fish was about to ride some waves. The spicy tuna and avocado was perched atop a fried zucchini slice. The tuna was so fresh, the avocado was creamy, and the fried zucchini gave this dish a nice crunch. It was a winner! We also shared (from left to right) a Crunchy Tuna Roll, California Roll, and Geisha Roll. Honestly, the black pepper tuna in the crunchy tuna roll is one of my favorite things. This is probably my favorite roll at Chiyo. The geisha roll was topped with a fried lotus root which was amazing. The little bit of crunch played wonderfully with the fresh fish. We also ordered a few pieces of Maguro (tuna belly) and Salmon Sashimi. To me, this is the true test of how good a sushi spot is. Without any bells and whistles does the fish shine - and yes, it does. The salmon was melt in your mouth good as was the Maguro. Personally I prefer salmon to tuna, but both were fantastic and we were all thrilled with the quality of the fish. Lastly, we shared an order of Strawberry Mochi (sticky rice filled with ice cream) for dessert. I almost prefer mochi to regular ice cream because it's served colder and the texture of the sticky rice is my favorite. After a long hot day at a music festival, I couldn't be happier to be welcomed into Chiyo Sushi by their friendly staff and their hot towels. All I ate that day was a slice of pepperoni pizza, so you bet I was ready to dive into their menu. It took me close to forever to order something but I knew that I was craving some tempura, and what a delicious choice it turned out to be. I got the Sushi & Shrimp Tempura Dinner Combination and it fulfilled my every needs. The tempura was crunchy and flakey and the dipping sauce was second to none. Not to mention, it was served with a side of soup, salad AND rice. That's right, "and" not "or". Sushi was on par, I wish I ordered more. Side note: you gotta admit, how good are those basic salads they serve at sushi restaurants? Simple and delicious! The staff was so genuine and accommodating, which made everything better. They even let us know of which liquor stores were close-by and about to close. I wish I didn't live so far so I could come back, but you never know! Had a very nice meal here for my birthday with my boyfriend and his two young sons. We had a couple of rolls and some nigiri. They were just fine. Boys had yakiudon with chicken and a teriyaki salmon dinner, both very good. I've been here a few times and enjoy the sushi just fine. (I've lived in Hawai'i and eaten a lot of very nice sushi in major cities where it's truly excellent. Chiyo is reliable and some of the best I've had in Baltimore that isn't Azumi, which is a significant, very rare splurge.) The sleeper hit that I'll be back for was the seafood tempura dinner. A generous plate of terrific vegetables and some shrimp, a couple of scallops, and a few white fish strips. This is very good tempura. Love the unassuming and friendly waitstaff. read more

I've ordered on Uber eats multiple times based off reviews. To be completely honest I'm the type that if it's not a extravagant sushi place I don't wanna go, I don't wanna know bc if it's a trashy type place I won't enjoy the sushi or look at it side ways after that, even if it is good or I've ate it a million times already .. it's the thought of it. But ! I actually found this place today and I am impressed. Small place, nothing too flashy. Started to be an introvert and order to go but no one was there, so I dined in. Honeeeyy warm towel before and after you eat.(points for that) The waiter was super sweet and kind to me, let me take my time ordering. (points !) Poured my sake for me. (points) Charged my phone for me while I was eating (pointss ) really just attended to my dining experience but wasn't to pushy (poiintss) I couldn't finish everything and he packed my food to-go for me. I'm a fan of Chiyo Sushi. Is it the best sushi I've ever eaten? No, of course not. I've eaten the sushi of 2 world champion sushi artists and this is not in the same league BUT this is Baltimore. And our legacy of legit sushi places, ranges from not so good to food poisoningly inedible. This place is reliable, reasonably priced, charming and occasionally has blue fin tuna! They'll make you whatever roll you want, and they have a great variety of rolls that are interesting but not too gimmicky. They make a greak spicy tuna roll and a delcious roll called a "crunchy tuna roll" with spicy tuna, avocado, tobiko and tempura flakes. It's a great place to meet somebody for a "catching up" dinner/lunch and there is parking, which is nice. It's my sushi place of choice at the moment. read more

This is one of the few Japanese places I've been to, where they have Japanese staff, and Japanese people actually eat here. (I speak Japanese, so I over-hear stuff.) Heck, the place even plays Japanese Pop music. The food here is really good. I've only ever had the sushi, and it's always been fresh and delicious. I also like that they have (or had) orange Ramune. One of the best sushi places in Baltimore-- and it's getting hard to pick, which is a great problem to have. Everything I order here is always fresh, and if you come before 5 on a weekday, you get free soup and salad, which is wonderful. I love their selection of vegetarian and vegan rolls, along with all of the cooked rolls. You really can't go wrong. Others have complained about the nigiri quality, but my husband loves it. The waitresses are always quite sweet and the owner checks on you. The parking lot is kind of a disaster, but this is the city, and you can find other nearby places to park. One of the best sushi experiences of my life. Upon entering the restaurant, the owners are very friendly and make you feel right at home. We came late on a weekday night and there were still many customers walking in and out getting their sushi orders to go. The owners were friendly and did not hesitate to recommend their specialty rolls and dishes to us...all of them definitely hit the mark and did not disappoint. Their award-winning Geisha roll was fresh, tasty and definitely a standout among all the rolls we ordered. I also really enjoyed the Volcano roll, which is warm and spicy. But be warned, have some self-control when first eating this roll because if you stick the whole thing in your mouth when it first comes out, it will burn...trust me...I had to learn this the hard way. I usually only order sushi at sushi restaurants. To me that's what makes sense because that's probably the only thing they're good at. I was happy to be proven wrong by Chiyo Sushi. Their non-sushi dishes were just as good, dare I say, even better than their sushi rolls! The dragon balls dish, which although has a funny name was so flavorful and delicious that it left me and the group I was eating with fighting for our share of the dish. The definite standout though from all of the dishes that night was the fresh tuna tartar. Oh boy was that good! This is an awesome little sushi place in the Mt. Washington area Baltimore. The Sushi bar was recommended by my co-workers for lunch. As I work around the corner my co-workers and I are there quite frequently. They have free parking which is pretty hard to find in this area of Baltimore. I typically eat in the dinning room but when pressed for time delivery is available for those on the John's Hopkins Conference Center Campus & take-out is available anytime. The rolls are delicious and the service is outstanding. It's just such a warm and welcoming place. They have excellent lunch selections which aren't very expensive and their tempura is pretty good but their specialty rolls are the best. I say treat yourself ! read more

They have the freshest sushi I've had here, the service is (almost) always great, the presentation is great--who doesn't love a cucumber cut into a palm tree??--the prices are modest, and the location is nice. I'm very very picky about sushi since I'm weird about eating raw fish, and I've loved every roll I've ever ordered here. They also have some really good unique/special rolls too. This place has downright great sushi - from what I've seen, a wonderful selection of fresh fish, and then a really good selection of vegetable rolls, which I take advantage of often. My friend an I went the other day, and she had the Tekka Don (raw tuna), which she loved. I had the vegetable sushi assortment, which came with a vegetable roll and then the usual veggie sushi assortment - all dishes were beautifully presented. We did order the edamame as an appetizer, and it was a bit overcooked, but still good. My only complaint is that the service was SUPER slow. I'm not sure if they had a lot of takeout orders, or if they just took their time, but we got there at 6:45, ordered around ten minutes later, and it took them about 20 minutes to bring us our edamame. We didn't even get our main dishes until around 7:40 or so. Normally I'm fine with slower service, but I felt this was a little excessive, hence the one star off. When we ordered our dessert (banana tempura) and told her that we were in a hurry to leave, the waitress had it out to us in about five minutes, so it was a nice recovery. All in all - amazing food, but don't come here if you're in a hurry to go catch a movie. Also, be aware that parking is a bit tight. read more

Everything I had tasted great but it did not taste authentic Japanese. This is not "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" quality sushi-- this is more of a good place to take people who are made queasy by the idea of raw fish. Mayonnaise or cream cheese finds its way into or on many selections. Lot's of fried or baked roll options. Nothing was bad but it was not authentic Japanese style sushi. read more

Chiyo Sushi has the best sushi I've ever had and I've had tons of sushi from many places! The dining area downstairs where the sushi is made at the sushi bar is small but can be nice and quaint if it isn't busy. The upstairs is bigger and more spread out and comfortable. The service is great all of the workers are friendly. The parking isn't the best. The parking lot is very small and cramped but this place is worth that slight headache. I highly recommend the Queen Roll, Godzilla Roll and their Philadelphia Roll (but with fresh salmon not the kind it comes with automatically, you'd be hard pressed to find a better one). I also like the Pickled Radish Roll, I know that might not be everyone's style but if you're open minded give it a try. Chiyo has all the traditional sushi but they have numerous specialty rolls that are awesome and amazing. Order from the specialty menu and you can't go wrong. You will be hooked and want to return again and again as I have over the years with friends and family. Don't forget about dessert they have great fried ice cream. read more

Chiyo is better than Sushi Hana. It's better than many sushi bars in the B'more area. It is still, however, not outstanding sushi. The rolls are better than the nigirizushi, and the butterfly roll is a very pretty thing with salmon and avocado rolled in rice and topped with colorful stripes of flavored tobiko - red, orange, black, and green. Ankimo (monkfish liver) was presented well, but was mushy, not creamy. The miso soup was milder than I prefer, made with sweeter white miso rather than saltier yellow. It's really the classic nigiri that most obviously falls short. Again, it's the rice. Sushi rice should not be cold. Sushi rice should not be mushy. Sushi rice should not be bland. It should be about body-temp, sticky but firm, and slightly tangy from rice vinegar. The rice here was none of these, apart from sticky. At least it didn't taste like dishwater like some places I've endured. They do serve ama-ebi with the fried heads, which I consider an absolute must. Service was pretty good, they serve Sapporo Gold - which is a plus. The downstairs dining room near the bar was quiet and on the smaller side. Parking is a little odd in their small lot: cars park two deep, and if you park behind someone, expect to be asked in the middle of your meal to move your car to let another diner out. Avoid this by paying for parking on the street. I'd go again, if someone else wanted to, or if I were in the area and hankering for fish. I wouldn't, however, make a special trip. Which is a shame, because they really seem to try, and the rolls were really pretty good. If nigirizushi is not important to you, though, Chiyo could very well satisfy your craving. read more

After 5 months in Baltimore, I finally found the perfect spot for any night I suddenly say "MUST HAVE SUSHI NOWWW" (it happens A LOT) I had miso soup and seaweed salad to start - both were excellent and slightly unique. And then...THE SUSHI. Holy hanna, give me that white tuna & avocado hand roll, salmon sashimi, and uni nigiri forever and ever. Everything tasted right off the boat. So fresh it couldn't have been better, and I haven't said that in a while about a sushi place. Other bonuses include the people are nice and welcoming, the vibe is relaxed, and sitting at the bar alone I didn't feel like a loner weirdo - cuz at some places, I do. Really, this is a huge plus for me, just slightly behind how amazing the food is. Maybe now I'm sounding like a weirdo. I do love a place that panders to us herbivores. Three words for you: Vegetarian. Specialty. Rolls. It's the dream and the myth of so many sushi restaurants. For a cuisine that might not traditionally be vegetarian, sushi is fairly veggie-friendly. However, while I may love avocado rolls, sometimes you want to indulge in those multi-layer, jewel-toned kaleidoscope-styled pieces. Besides, restaurants, those are the money makers. The first time we went our service wasn't great, but we liked the sushi we tried and wanted to go back and sample more of the menu. The specialty roll menu is a place mat sized laminated piece of paper printed on both sides - you might find favorites, but you won't run out of choices. Here's the results of our investigation so far: The "Ivy roll" is awesome, with crunchy apple and tiny sticks of carrot for texture and a sweet note. The "Red pepper roll", with tempura fried red pepper and avocado, also contrasts textures nicely, and delivered still-warm with the eel sauce, it's awesome. The "Crazy Crab" is a two-bite a piece roll, made excellent with the spicy mayo. Wish they had pots for the tea so that you can drink it without asking continually for refills. Another reviewer pointed out they use white miso, which I actually prefer, but if you have a preference for the yellow be aware. Parking isn't abysmal but if you park in their lot, be aware you're in for some shuffling. read more

Definitely a great Sushi place, ranking among the top in Baltimore. Specialty rolls here are great, especially the New Orleans Roll and Treasure Roll. There are a ton of vegetarian options, which is great if you're having sushi with vegetarians. Deserts here are also pretty good: The banana tempura sundae was quite unique and delectable. With two floors, there is usually a ton of space and I've never had to wait, although getting a reservation wouldn't be a bad idea. I do have to say, the "OPEN" lights flashing on the windows are a bit distracting especially if you're seated by the windows. read more

I went to Chiyo restaurant for lunch. Went on a Friday at 12:45pm and there was no crowd. I ordered the King Roll and a yellowtail roll and with that order it came a free soup and salad. The yellowtail roll was good. It was a pretty basic roll. The King Roll was very good and if you like your rolls fried covered in eel sauce and spicy mayo I highly recommend this roll. The serving size of that roll is pretty big and it was very filling. Overall, very satisfying experience and I'm sure I'll be back. read more
