This place is an great pastry shop in Inwood. I've tried a handful of their pastries to make a decent review. Before I start, their pastries are sweet, but not too sweet, but they pack a lot of flavor. Here it goes: 1. The Vienese Apple Strudel - 1/5. I was hoping for it to taste like an apple pie. Definitely did not. Maybe that's why it I didn't enjoy it that much. 2. Salted Caramel Cheesecake - 3.5/5. It's pretty good considering all their products are made on the spot. It doesn't beat S&S Cheesecake though. 3. Chocolate Chunk Brownie - 3/5. This is a great cookie and brownie hybrid. It's huge too. It also helps if you heat it up a bit to soften it (I used my microwave at home, but I'm sure they'll be more than happy to heat it up if you ask). 4. Chocolate Macarons - 5/5. These were really good. Honestly, I'm giving a 5/5 cuz it tastes way better than the one in Mon Amour (further up on the 1 train line around 230st) and it's one of two spot near me that sells them (I live in the Bx). They're not on Laudree's level, but they're good enough. 5. Caramelized Croissant Dipped in Dark Chocolate - 5/5. This was definitely my personal favorite. Imagine a really good tasting croissant... now add caramel... and then chocolate. It's really good. 'Nough said. Overall, I'll give it a 4.5 stars. I haven't tried their lattès yet. They have a whole bunch of other pastries too. The ambiance and setup of the entire shop is amazing - perfect 5/5 from me. The staff is also really friendly and courteous. Good things come to those that dare venture uptown. I always get a little nervous when I see a business launch in the storefront on 4996 Broadway, as I have seen quite a few things come and go in my few years living uptown. I think ChocNYC has staying power, however, because it fills a niche that doesn't really exist this far uptown: desserts! Scratch that: DAMN good desserts! The seating area is small, but there are a few chairs and tables along the sides of an area that's vastly an open kitchen; it's fun to sit back, enjoy a Pineapple Chocolate French maracon, and watch the pastry chefs make another fresh batch! I've had a few things from ChocNYC, and I can vouch for the awesomeness of the following: the Red Velvet Raspberry cupcake, the aforementioned Pineapple Chocolate French macaron, the Caramelized Croissant, the Chocolate Sugar Cookies, the Chocolate Mousse Cupcake, and the Chocolate Eclair. ALL of them...each and every one of them...are exquisite. I need to get more and try more! The truffles, macarons, and other pastries are calling my name! It's really no wonder why this place has a solid 5 star review (at least as of the time I'm typing this up)! I love this place OH so much! Of course, as I write this, the place has begun flooding with people because, well, it's just that good. Small though it might be, it is roomy enough to sit for a few minutes comfortably dissecting your freshly baked sticky bun as delicately as possible (because let's be honest, all you really want to do is devour one of their sumptuous pastries in -4 seconds)! Ok, so now, the pastries...macarons, eclairs, scones, cheesecake, quiche, cookies, pain au chocolate, croissant blah blah blah...AMAZING. You can NOT go wrong here. Nice cute lil bakery shop. It was small but you could sit in if you like. You can see them making things on the spot. I think there may have been a lil misunderstanding though, because I was looking at the dessert and cupcakes and said that this domed chocolate cake they had looked yummy along with the cupcakes, I said it would probably go excellent with some wine, and the lady recommended their German chocolate cake, but I said I don't like coconut , I don't like how it tastes. (Shaking my head no and making a yuk face) She said oh and I began to buy this yummy pumpkin custard cupcake they had, for it is pumpkin season, and I love me some pumpkin seasonal items. I paid with my card and spoke with the owner who was nice and gave me a business card and told me to checkout the website, that they can make special orders. I thank him and the nice Spanish lady who help me, went home to eat my cupcake and was grossed out by the whole top layered with what I thought was crushed peanuts turned out to be coconut. :" gross! I told her I didnt like coconut you would think she would of said dont buy this cupcake because it has coconut too, try another kind. I think either she didn't know it had coconut, (which is bad because you should know what you are selling, what if I had allergies) or she really didn't understand me when I said I don't like coconut. It was hard for me to enjoy this cupcake because you see from the picture the custard is surrounded in the coconut and I tried to pick around it, eatting this cupcake with a fork, but once I had that flavor in my mouth the whole experience was ruined. From what I did taste, this would have been awesome had it not had coconut and is awesome if you like coconut. So thats why I give it four stars and not three because it was a good cupcake minus the coconut, they had a variety of other things and the people were kind. Not five because like I said what if I had a allergy to coconut instead, I think I would be screwed. Maybe I'll order with the owner next time if he is there or someone else, but I will be back the next time I get my nails done, they are right next door to each other, so we shall see. read more

Without a doubt the best bakery in Inwood, and probably one of the best in all of Manhattan. I like the blueberry muffin, the linzer, the lemon square and the croissants. Their pastries have a depth of flavor and TEXTURE (I'm big on texture!) that suggests real care and expertise was involved. This is not the type of place that dump obscene amounts of sugar into everything and calls it a product. There's more to sweets than sugar! I'm not the person who focuses heavily on staff when I go to places, especially if I like the place, but the staff here is also noticeably good and friendly. I wish the espresso brand that CHOCnyc uses was available for purchase in the states -- it would save my husband so much money! He is very finicky about his espresso and absolutely loves the one they serve at CHOC. The only complaint is that they don't have the smaller espresso sized to-go cups so his double shots have to go in a regular coffee cup (which he says causes him to lose some of it because it sticks to the side of the cup...I have no idea if that's actually true or not). They also have delicious biscotti, croissants, and blueberry muffins. Personally, I enjoy the iced coffee :) read more

Walked in b/c I thought it'd be nice to support a small biz and saw them making some cakes and other goodies on premises and thought that was cool. But I'm vegan, and I asked if there was anything that was dairy-free. The nice guy at the counter was very friendly and told me no, but a man who seemed like the owner or manager said that he has a focaccia roll w/rosemary. OK, why not? So I said I'd get it, and I added to the owner, "If you ever start making some vegan items, I'll be here every day," but he was now dismissive of me, pretended I wasn't there -- checked by the fact that when I said something else to him, he looked right past me and then walked right past me as if I wasn't there. Because he was a horse's ass. So then I paid $5 (!!) for a f---ing roll made at a place run by an a-hole who, let's be clear, was angry b/c I asked for items that most places are now carrying. Picked up a small order of cookies for an event and wow. They were as delicious as they were beautiful--and the cookies were gorgeous. I have no interest in baked goods that are anything less than excellent, and these surpassed my high expectations. What a gem! A diamond in the rough, if you will. I stumbled on this bakery before the pandemic while waiting for the bus. I saw a small sign that indicated there was a bakery and just had to browse since I had the time. Without that sign, I would have never known there was a bakery and would probably not have even walked up the block. This is the best bakery I have encountered in the Bronx and is even better than a lot of bakeries in Manhattan. The plain croissant is absolutely divine - full of flavor, crispy, and a good size to satisfy. The chocolate and the pistachio eclairs have the extra toppings that most other places do not have. This adds extra texture to make the eclairs especially good. The caramelized croissant is unique and very good as well. The raspberry financier is another great option. Their rotating fruit sorbet flavors are excellent. I have tried the berry lemonade and the nectarine flavors. For a small shop, they offer a lot of variety and everything is made fresh on premises. I haven't tried everything on the menu but what I've had so far is pretty amazing. I go in once a week and usually get the same things, hot coco, a pistachio eclair, and some flat mixed berry pastry. The hot coco is 100% on point I have no remarks. The flat mixed berry pastry is so amazing, my only remark is that it's too small, I can't get enough of it. The pistachio eclair is a standout except for the fact that they are not filled on the spot so the dough is a bit soggy. Otherwise it's PERFECT! As far as coziness, I think the interior could use more comfortable chairs. (You have to come in here, you won't regret it, stop reading reviews and just go) This place is greatly decorated, looks fancy as hell, everything looks like a damn treat, not like one thing looks good and others don't, EVERYTHING looks great, good looking food and presentation, no flies flying around, even the employee uniforms look cool because it's fancy chef attire. Chocnyc is one of best bakeries in New York. You can call me biased: it is in my home neighborhood. But I'd argue that it is worth trekking out to Inwood for. Highlights: - The chocolate chip and double chocolate cookies are amazing. I often buy a dozen or so for special events at work, or just a couple to take home. They never let me down. - The pistachio eclair might be my personal favorite. Really different, really green, and really delicious. - Their focaccia bread with olives is really rich. Good if you are not in the mood for sweet. Other great things: The bakery in the back is completely open, so you can take a look at all the wonderful things they are preparing while you decide what to get. They have a small dine in area, which is nice for meeting up with another person, or just looking out the window and people watching.
