This place was really dirty. I ordered a chile relleno combo. It was packed of layers of fried egg and had very little cheese inside the poblano pepper. It was undercooked. Made my stomach hurt and the rice and beans had no flavor. Please be careful when eating there. But only is it pricey but some customers have found foreign items on their food. Saw the ratings and was hesitant to go back after a long absence but noticed that ratings on DoorDash were much better and decided to give it another shot. We ordered 6 items for my husband, myself, and some friends. It was a little loud in the background when I called in, so I was worried they'd get something wrong, but our order came out perfect! This is our neighborhood Mexican restaurant and we order from here often. Their plates are packed full and we usually end up with leftovers. The carnitas plate with refried beans is a favorite, as well as their enchiladas. We tried the carne asada recently and it was super tender and flavorful too. It's priced higher than other Mexican options around town, especially considering it's only take out, but we love supporting local businesses. Plus they're always so nice. read more

I have friends that really like this place, so I wanted to try it out. Paid $18 for a chicken super burrito. What I got was a rice burrito with a smattering of chicken, very little guac and sour cream and really no cheese to speak of. A super is supposed to come with the additions of guac, sour cream and cheese. A quarter way down the burrito, I notice that it's only rice and a few beans. Ok, maybe it's just an unbalanced burrito and the rest of the ingredients are crammed in the remainder of the burrito. About halfway through the burrito, I get a few shreds of chicken but still no sour cream, guac or cheese. Then I get the thinnest layer of sour cream in a pinstripe line down the center, not across the burrito. Maybe I'll come back and try some of the other menu items, but there's no guarantee. read more

Bought tres leches from here tonight that upon opening had clearly gone bad. Husband took a bite, spit it out - I smelled the container and the milk had spoiled. 9 dollars for a slice of spoiled cake. We called the owners to let them know and they denied it, saying their tres leches was fine. Do not order from here if you're worried about how long food has been sitting around. The menu is quite extensive though offering every type of burrito imaginable, tacos including snapper fish tacos, fajitas, pupusas, and the list goes on. They were kind enough to let us sample their chicken tortilla soup which was fresh and homemade. While sampling the soup we order one of their special burritos called Super Seafood Burrito. Super Seafood Burrito: at first I was taken back by the total which was $19.88 with tax included. But in defense, burritos on this side of the bay for whatever reason have inflated to that price. I wish someone would tell my employer, I shouldn't have to work so many hours just to buy burritos. But I digress... The burrito was good tasting and every bite had shrimp in it. That makes it a winner in my book. No skimping and good SABOR. El Caballo is definitely a spot to check out for solid Mexican food in Alameda. read more

Just want to express my LOVE of this place again! And love love love the new chicken Al pastor! Soooo good! I'm currently on a keto/low carb diet. My go-to's are the two super tacos with the chicken Al pastor. They load them up! I take them home and scoop them onto my own Keto tortillas and they are absolutely fabulous!!! Also the chicken tortilla soup is the best I have ever had! Great for keto diet (as long as you don't put the tortilla strips in it, and trust me it doesn't need it.). Just like Rene P., the Chicken Caesar Burrito had almost no chicken- just a few cubes - and no cheese, guac, sour cream to speak of. 90 percent rice and beans! For 14 dollars, this is unacceptable. Our burritos were huge ($15) regular chicken asada- aside from just too much rice (which high schoolers may like) the pollo asada didn't taste grilled. We did ask for the burritto's to be put on the plancha to crisp up and the place seemed clean- but no restroom (how is that even possible for a sit down place?) The cashier is always accommodating whenever I want to switch my order or try something new. They give me a sample before I purchase. I called the order in and told the employee I would be there to pick up. I don't live too far from El Caballo Wraps. As many times as my husband and I have driven by this business to run errands, never once did we stop by to sample their food and/or even notice the business was there. I am totally impressed. First time here and they did not disappoint at all. Eats: husband had the super carne asada burrito and I had the carnitas platter with flour tortillas. I have to admit that it was one humongous burrito and hubby could only eat 1/3 of it. He enjoyed his burrito and said it was better than the one from the place on Webster Street. The carnitas platter was too much for me. The portion was generous and it has taken me three meals to finish it (yesterday's dinner, today's lunch and this evening's dinner). I filled the three flour tortillas with the meat, rice, beans and fixings for small burritos. Lunch was part of the leftover with their tortilla chips and some spicy salsa. This evening's dinner was the remaining leftover with scrambled eggs, tortilla chips and pico de gallo. I am so full and I feel a siesta coming along. Finally, there will be more visits to El Caballo Wraps. Again, I am thankful to Steve D for his recommendation. I am convinced the food is the best and quite delicious. Secret gem in alameda for the best Mexican food. The place is really small like 4 tables, it's more a take out spot than a dine in spot, but the food there is insane. Also pro tip their green sauce is amazing get extra. Out of all the Mexican places I've tried, this one just gets everything right, it doesn't hurt that it's around the corner from me. I love this place, and I'm really happy it made it thru the Covid-19 shutdown. As of May 1, 2021, it's still takeout and delivery, with a few tables outside on the sidewalk. The place is less than a mile from my house, so I just go pickup my order. El Caballo Wraps is located between St Charles St and Bay St, along Lincoln Ave. On Saturday, I ordered the Baja Fish tacos and the Beans and Cheese Pupusa. OMG, the Baja Fish Tacos were still crispy nearly 30 mins after I picked up my order. They put two pieces of battered fried (cod) fish on one tortilla, then bury them with tasty toppings. Not salty, not super spicy.....just perfect fried fish tacos! You get 2 Tacos per order. The Pupusa with beans & cheese was still warm wrapped up in foil. It's usually about $25 for my nachos and tea but it's a huge portion and large tea. The Jamaica tea has the perfect amount of tartness and not overly sweetened. Be very careful of the ingredients in their soups. My niece purchased two Chicken Tortilla Soups on Wednesday, 12/23 and gave us one and took the other. We ate ours on Christmas Eve and found a small wire, a piece of plastic, and a piece of a bristle off a brush? in our soup. Immediately called my niece to warn her about her soup and she said hers was ok - I hope she didn't swallow something without knowing. I called ECW but they were closed by then, and I tried the day after Christmas but still closed. Probably reopening Monday. Thus, please be very, very careful drinking their soups. The wire did not appear to be a wire used to wrap chickens or vegetables from a vendor but more of an electronics type wire, the plastic was unidentifiable while the bristle likely from a basting brush or something. To have three things in a soup was a definite turn-off and we won't be back. To the proprietor, look at the picture I posted and discuss with your Wednesday, 12/23 afternoon, prep and cooking staff to go over safety and cooking processes. This place is truly a hidden gem! We were craving pozole soup and discovered this spot on Yelp. We ordered the pozole soup and the carnitas platter, and both were fantastic. The pinto beans had an excellent homemade flavor. The pozole soup was well-seasoned but, unfortunately, a bit too spicy for us. However, the attentive staff noticed and offered a complimentary bowl of chicken tortilla soup. That soup was absolutely OUTSTANDING--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. One of my new favorite spots. So far, everything I've tried has been amazing! Personal recommendation... the chicken enchilada soup. Made from tomatillos and chicken, it's hearty, but not too chunky. I wanted to have no rice on the super burrito but not sure if the option was there since it wasn't present for online ordering. Nearly devoured the carne asada fries (crinkle cut, btw) and could barely dig into my al pastor burrito- it was FULL of rice and beans- where's the meat?!?! Saving grace here is the chips and salsa our order came with- those chips are mighty crispy and the salsas have a good kick to em. In the future, I would skip out on the super burrito- I ain't payin' for a rice plate! Would return for those chips and salsa though... lol read more

Staff: The staff here was super nice and accommodating when we asked for extra salsa, the spiciest salsa they had, etc. They wore masks and kept their distance. Food: 1. Chili verde platter: this got very good ratings and looked good in the photos, so we ordered this to try it. It didn't disappoint. There were a lot of flavors that brought this dish together. 2. Super burrito mojado: My only disappointments were the sweet corn (my bad on not seeing it on the menu) and the sauce as it turned it to be a very sweet burrito. I prefer spice when it comes to dishes like this. The rest of the contents in the burrito were delicious though :). 3. Super burrito (regular): very good when hot sauce is added to give that extra kick. Second time I came to pick up lunch. First time I came for lunch, I tried the Green Chile plate which was fantastic. Good amount of Pork and Potatoes in a really tasty Green Chile and Tomatillo sauce. Beans tasted fresh, and the rice was good. Today I tried the Chicken Flautas with Tomatillo Sauce and Refried beans. All fantastic and well done. Very traditional, not "white washed". Ok, I've been here a few times in the past and have always had a positive experience but on this occasion I was severely disappointed and disgusted with the food quality. I ordered a pozole and it was super delicious but just as I was finishing up, I fished out a huge ass plastic lid at the bottom of my paper soup container. I double checked that it was not something that I dropped in by accident; my container was made from paper and size doesn't match and I accounted for all my salsa lids so one of two things must have happened: 1. They left a random plastic lid at the bottom of my paper container when they filled it with the pozole soup 2. The lid was cooking along with their ingredients in the giant pot and they scooped it into my container Either way, gross. guys, double check your food. read more
