Pretty decent but not anything to write home about. I got grilled chicken in my burrito and I felt like the seasoning was just a little too strong for my preference. Service was super fast and portions are pretty big here!

I'm giving this place a solid 4 stars. 4.5 to the cook and lady at the register. Solid place. I recently moved here looking for a taqueria that I don't have to leave the island for. I tried some places and they were mid AF. Damn near trash. I'm a firm believer of quality over quantity, just because it's made big doesn't mean it's good. I love a local mom and pop restaurant it's got a lot of authenticity. I'll definitely be back. This gem didn't disappoint carnitas just the way I like it bits of crunchy deep fried pork, salsa, light rice and beans. Add cheese when I'm feeling good about myself. Flavorful you can taste the carnitas and it wasn't over powering the ratio from meat to everything in it was perfect. A little bit of this and that.

    Chips and salsa!

Island Taqueria gets a 5-star rating from me! This was my first visit back since circa 2021-2022. An old friend introduced me to this place maybe 8 years ago, back when we were still in college. It still tastes just as good to me. The folks working there have always been kind as well. It was not too busy, around an hour before closing. We ended up finishing our food very quickly anyway. The restaurant is pretty casual - you order from the kiosk in back, then grab your utensils + water yourself. The workers will bring the food out to you. This was one of my favorite places to get quesadillas and burritos, especially because of the big portions. This still rings true today. The chips were good, pretty standard. It was my partner's first time here, they got the Crispy Taco with Carne Asada and I got a Quesadilla with Carne Asada. There was a generous amount of meat in both items! We shared a refreshing Pineapple Agua Fresca and Tamarind Jarritos. We really enjoyed our dinner! Thank you for a good experience.

Two soft tacos: one grilled chicken and one carnitas.

Ordering was easy and quick at noon. The chips came with red and green salsa. I had a grilled soft taco and a carnitas soft taco...delicious! The watermelon juice was a huge amount and very refreshing.

Lets start with the positive, they gave way more then enough meat on each taco. Like 3 times more then other places. Other then that I wasn't blown away by anything. I had the beef enchilada plate and one carnasada taco and everything was just ok not super delicious, nothing to write home about. I personally wouldn't go back because there are too many good Mexican food places to eat at but my mom likes to order from there so go figure, everyone has their own taste haha. I didnt hate it but I wasn't crazy about it either. That's just my opinion.

Came in for a quick dinner with my family and ordered a Chile Relleno plate and two regular burritos - one carnitas and one Chile verde. Sadly, we were disappointed to find that the burritos were filled abundantly with rice and beans and hardly any meat. We were hoping that maybe all the meat was rolled into one side, so we dissected the burritos only to discover it was scattered scantily with a few pieces throughout. We love Mexican food and we were hoping for the best, but if we wanted just a rice and bean burrito we would've ordered just that. The Chile Relleno plate was fine enough - presented nicely but the sauce a bit runny.

Our 19th hole was here yesterday. It was plan B as plan A across the street appeared boarded up. How to order - the order counter is in the back. Read the menu posted above and place your order & pay. We got comp tortilla chips with a green and a red dip. Also went with water that we dispensed ourselves. Our orders were walked over to our table. Flatware is get it yourself. Hubby and I both had the carne asada taco salad. There was ample amount of carne asada with a good balance of guacamole, salsa, beans, sour cream, cheese, chopped lettuce in a crispy shell. Our other friends ordered burritos. Food prices have gone up everywhere so we weren't surprised - our taco salad was $16. The super burrito was $17. Service was quick.

First time here, the food is fine. It's hard to screw up a burrito bowl. And theirs was the ok-est bowl I've had all day. The portions were fine, a little above average. The low rating is because the burrito bowl was $28 after a modest tip. I probably should have looked at the price before ordering. My mistake. But a simple burrito bowl from a taqueria for lunch should not be the price of a steak from Moxie across the street.

I should have checked my prior review. The carne asada is bland. The Carne Asada Super Burrito cost me over $18 and is definitely not worth the price. The meat is griddled but has no taste. I liked it as Alameda Taqueria and definitely do not like the Island Taqueria version - unchanged in 11 years. Bland carne asada is a shame.

Awesome plate: chicken tamale, carnitas enchilada;... salsa verde para mí.

Totally authentic, homemade, handmade, fresh, tasty, plentiful, clean, friendly, homey. I loved the carnitas enchilada with green sauce!!!

Huge portion and really tasty but the super burrito is like $17-18 bucks which is kinda steep. My boyfriend has gone back and ordered the non-super (no guacamole or sour cream) and it came out to like $13 which is more reasonable. Even though it's pretty big I don't think the super is worth the price.

The menu has the usual burritos, enchiladas, etc. I opted for 2 enchiladas, very tasty but a little spicy for my palette. Nice workers.

Great location, nice decor, and excellent service. I ordered a Carne Asada Burrito and it was delicious. The meat and beans were perfectly cooked. Coming here was a very quick, last minute decision and I had a great experience. I'll definitely return.

Fast forward to today, my son and his friend frequent this place. After a Sunday full of errands, hunger kicked in, and we were craving Mexican food. My 13 year old suggested we come here. At that moment, I had a choice...drive out to Oakland and find a solid spot or trust my teenager's restaurant recommendation. Risky move, I know lol. Walking in, the place looked just like it did years ago clean, welcoming, and with a friendly staff. The menu? Way bigger than I remember. It had so many options, I started wondering if I needed a strategy guide to order. I just wanted everything cause I was hangry lol. My son swears by their quesabirria, so I took a bite. It was... alright. Wish the shell had that extra crisp or even a cheese crust. The beef? Decent, but could've used more spice and flavor. Maybe dipping it in the consommé would've helped like a plot twist in a bad movie, it might've saved the whole thing just my opinion : ) I went for the steak fries. Now, these weren't your typical carne asada fries with thick-cut fries, sour cream, salsa, and all the toppings stacked on. These were more like shoestring fries, already seasoned, topped with cheese and steak pieces. Not bad, but let's be real I wouldn't have minded a bigger portion. And with shoestring fries, good luck trying to scoop up all the toppings without making a mess in that little food tray lol. Also grabbed a crispy ground beef taco. It was okay, but every time I took a bite, it completely fell apart like my plans to eat healthy. Could've used a bit more seasoning too (taco snob lol) Don't be shy with the flavor. I rather have it over seasoned than bland : ) Alameda doesn't have a ton of taquerias, which is probably why everyone drives out to Oakland to hit the food trucks on International Blvd (aka E-14th for the OG Bay Area folks) Yadadaimean! Would I come back? Yeah, I would. Food isn't bad, and the prices are decent like I'm not breaking the bank here. Solid 3 stars.
