10pc sushi box with house made soy sauce! So fresh

Exceptional restaurant. It's small. There's maybe 4 tables plus bar seating at the window. Perfect for a quick lunch. What they have out is what's available. Once they sell out then they will close. Everything is so fresh, especially the fish. Very organized and clean. Front of house lady was very nice and efficient. No complaints here!

I stopped by Choo Sando Omakase while visiting Austin, and I'm so glad I did! One thing to know before you go: I initially thought you could order from a full menu as a walk-in, but it's actually designed as more of a grab-and-go concept. Everything is beautifully pre-packaged, and once they sell out for the day...that's it! I had my eye on one of their variety sando packs, but by the time I got there they only had one combination left (chicken sando, lobster sando, and egg salad). Since I was about to hit the road for a few hours, I decided to keep it light and went with one of their dessert sandos instead. I tried the strawberry & kiwi fruit sando, made with fresh fruit, whipped cream, and Japanese milk bread. I'll admit...at first glance I thought it was cake (which honestly wouldn't be a bad idea! ), but the soft white bread was surprisingly perfect. It balanced the sweetness beautifully, making it light, airy, and not overly sweet at all. It definitely satisfied my sweet tooth without feeling heavy. The display case was full of gorgeous sushi boxes, omakase sets, and sandos that all looked incredibly fresh and almost too pretty to eat. You can definitely tell they put a lot of care into presentation. I didn't get to try more this visit because I had a long drive ahead of me, but this is absolutely a spot I'll be back to on my next trip to Austin. Next time I'm getting there earlier before everything sells out! Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for fresh, high-quality grab-and-go Japanese bites.

Choo Sando is officially one of my new favorite sushi spots in Austin. It's a grab and go setup with plenty of parking, and everything comes pre packed in containers, so it's first come first served. They close at 2:30PM and once an item sells out for the day, that's it, so I'd recommend getting there earlier rather than later. I went with the spicy scallop and salmon sashimi over rice, and honestly for twenty four dollars it's one of the better deals in the city for that quality of fish. I dined in and the guy working the counter surprised me with a free miso soup, and while I was chatting with some other folks in line, one gentleman offered me a piece of the strawberry mango fruit sando, which had the softest, fluffiest bread I've had in a sandwich like that. Next time I'm coming back for the black truffle chicken sando, which caught my eye on the menu. Great food, great hospitality, and a steal for the price. This is going straight into my regular sushi rotation.

Pro tip: Pre-order because they've been sold out by noon both times I've gone there. I've had sushi from all over and I have to say this is probably the best of freshest I've ever had. Trio Toro Box (no shellfish) - 3 pieces of fatty tuna, fatty salmon and yellowtail belly. 10/10. The caviar and other toppings were a great touch. Itamae 10pc Box - tuna, salmon, yellowtail, sea bream, sweet shrimp, white fish and I believe scallop. 10/10. The soy sauce was homemade and even their wasabi tasted fresh. For dessert, I had the fruit sando which was freshly made. You can even see them making it in the kitchen. Definitely looking forward to going back to try other items on their menu.

I have always heard good things about Choo Sando, but I have never gotten a chance to try it when in Austin. This time around I finally got a chance to try it and just WOW. They have fresh sushi, hot miso, amazing sandos, and delicious sauces! When we got there, we did not have a long wait time like how others have said, but they did not have a lot of items left. I would recommend coming in early and trying their sushi and sandos!

I love choo sando! Great place for Japanese sandos & really fresh sushi. Keep in mind that the sandos sell out fast, so be sure to go early if you want a good selection. You can also order ahead online for pickup, though I've only tried that for sushi. Small store & not much inside seating. Staff are friendly.

How have I never written a review for Choo Sando? Well, I love it! I think it's great and I think a testament to the quality is that even now there's a line waiting for Choo Sando to open. I went there on a Friday morning around 10:15 and I was about the 5th in line. The line was reasonable, but I like to get there early so that all the options are available. I've gone later, when there is no line, but you are limited in choices. Let's start with the food. You can definitely not go wrong. Every item is beautifully presented and a piece of art, almost too beautiful to eat, ALMOST... I've tried a variety from their sushi combinations and they're all good. I've also tried a few of the sandos and my favorite are the Pork Katsu, lobster, and egg salad. The service is always friendly. It's a small store front and seems like mostly family run, but I could be wrong about this. Often Chef Choo himself is there to help greet people at the door. If you've never been, I highly recommend. Whenever I have an excuse, I definitely stop by to treat myself.

I've had this place bookmarked for over three years, and I was finally able to come try it! We arrived at 10:20 am Saturday (opens 10:30 am), and there were around 20 people in front of us. However, they do a great job of crowd control, and the line moved quite fast. It took us around 20 minutes to make it inside. While it is quite small inside, there is some seating. My friends and I got a bunch of different sandos and sushi. The sandos were amazing with their different sauces! All of the fish was super fresh, and the flavors were so good! Each sushi box came with a miso soup, seaweed sheets, and a homemade bottle of soy sauce with ginger and wasabi. It was definitely worth the wait and money, and I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in Austin!

We came in around noon on a Thursday and unfortunately a lot of items were already sold out, which was a bit of a bummer. We ended up getting the chicken katsu sandwich, and the worker recommended adding the mustard which was a great call. The sandwich was really tasty overall, though I do wish we had come earlier because the bread didn't feel as fresh as it probably is earlier in the day. We also tried a sushi roll with truffle. It was very good, but definitely heavy on the truffle, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to strong flavors. Overall, solid food and friendly staff. I'd just recommend coming earlier in the day for the best selection and freshest experience.

I preordered a few items a week before New Year's Eve for pick up NYE. Honestly the best decision ever because it made our NYE so memorable. No waiting in line and ensure I get all the goodies we want. Select the time for pick up, checkout, and boom done in less than 5 mins. My pick up time was 12pm and when I got there, there was like maybe 10 of fruit sando and pork Sando left. The display was bare but I knew that was going to be the case so I am so happy I preordered! I got all of our favorites: 10 piece nigiris: $36 5/5 top notch quality and honestly the value is super fair. I see ppl reviews saying it's expensive but if you go to any sushi restaurant and got 10 nigiris it would cost you the same and/or more. If you are comparing all you can eat sushi, the quality is subpar and you are getting what you are paying for. I notice this 10 piece nigiri had a king salmon with truffle and like wow!! It was so good! I love that they changed it up a little for a nice little surprise than the norm. Come with soup. Spicy Tuna & Sake Don: $21 5/5 consistently the same top quality! Comes with soup and seaweed. Sake Don: $27 5/5 I am a salmon lover and this is my first time trying this one. Salmon was super yummy! Definitely hit the spot. I usually get the spicy scallop and Sake don but notice these past two times I've gotten it, the scallops are not the same as the original ones I've gotten. The scallops are small tiny ones now and the taste is simply not the same as the first time I've had it. I'm not a fan of the tiny scallops they not use. You can't waste the scallops anymore so that's why I got the Sake Don which I am glad I try something new. Comes with soup and seaweed. Katsu Sando: $14.50 5/5 still the best pork katsu I've had. The homemade house sauce is what makes it. If you want the sandwich to be crispy then come early to pick up to enjoy it. If you come later in the day, what ever they make in the morning is what's available there. They usually sell out of all items every day because they are that awesome. Truffle Katsu Sando: 5/5 $16.50 like WOW! Pork katsu is juicy paired with the truffle was such a stellar explosion of flavor in your mouth! Eating it with the in house made sauce katsu is a must. That is what makes this katsu special. I love that that bread is not thick because you get to enjoy the katsu which is the star of the Sando. Bread is soft and cabbage salad in between made it refreshing and not heavy feeling. Do I recommend Choo Sando? Absolutely ! When I came to Choo Sando, I witness a customer coming in past 12pm and complaining to the cashier why there was no more items left and just giving the staff a hard time.......Also I notice as I scroll and read reviews about the long lines (that go quick) and not getting what you want...There is an option to PREORDER and support the business. I think it's unfair to fault the business for inventory and underrate them when they give you the option to get what you want by preordering a head of time on their website. It is that simple. Don't go into the established and throw a tantrum about them almost selling out. Respect that's their business model and preorder. Zero food waste. Business is sustainable for long term and consumers to enjoy.

Was super excited to try this place. I got the spicy chicken sando. Flavor wise it was good with juicy chicken and soft bread. But it was not fresh. It was just sitting in the fridge and you can definitely tell the difference. I wish they made them fresh throughout the day but they only serve them once in the morning and I came around 1:30 pm. If you want the best experience, definitely go right when they open. The sandwich has potential but freshness makes a huge difference

Great place if you are looking for high quality sushi to-go. I got a 10 piece sushi set right before they closed on the weekend. The presentation is beautiful, and I enjoyed most of the combinations. The price is a little steep for the amount of food, but you can tell that a lot of thought and care was put into the creation of the boxes. I would however recommend going right when they open rather than later. My sushi wasn't the freshest since it was the end of their hours.

Chef Choo offers grab-and-go sushi boxes that are as beautiful as they are delicious--honestly, they could be served at any fine Japanese dining establishment. The sushi is always fresh, generously cut, and reasonably priced . They also offer Japanese sandos (sandwiches) for those who prefer something other than sushi. The only downside is the wait--you'll likely need to line up even on weekdays. We usually arrive about 15 minutes before opening since the shop is quite small, with just one narrow line for pickup and a single checkout. That said, once you're inside, the line moves fairly quickly. All in all, we always enjoy the food here and love coming back--especially when we plan ahead and prepare for the wait!

Not sure if anyone reads this, but I'll comment anyways…read more I went here with my husband and overall enjoyed it. I've been here 3 times now. I enjoyed it enough to come back a few times and will come back again. In the spirit of constructive criticism, here is what I have to say, just a few things to note though: The bar is not a real bar. It's just another table, but looks like a bar. The bar doesn't actually function like you'd expect a bar to function. Not a dealbreaker, but a bit misleading. You still get a server, can't seat yourself at the bar, etc. Might as well just sit at a table then. If someone reads this, I'd highly suggest at least considering making the bar function like a real bar! The tables are very close together. I know the place is small so this isn't something you can really change without losing money by reducing the amount of tables, but boy they are packed close. This is more something that maybe customers would like to know though. Management is all white, but the sushi chefs are Japanese. The servers are mostly white too. Not that this is a problem, but it does strike me as a little bit surprising and ever so slightly off-putting. At least, it makes me question what's going on initially. I know supposedly the owners are Japanese, per their website, but it might be nice to see more Japanese people in charge, at a Japanese place. The bussers look to be the hardest working kids out there. I hope they get paid fairly. Every time I've been there, they're the ones rushing around as fast as they can, cleaning up tables all over the place. I'm surprised they only have a couple of them, when they have way more servers. Not sure if this is normal, but they seem to be working really hard. There is no "Happy Hour", Google lied. Google has on their page that they have a happy hour when you look up this place. Turns out they don't. The servers are a little bit loud and rowdy sometimes. I know they all look to be in their mid to early 20's, but it might get to be a bit much. When they go back into their little corner or "hideout" they seem to be screaming and talking really loudly sometimes. Also, they like to scream "CORNER" constantly. I get that this might be a thing they do, to avoid crashing into each other, but there's no need to scream it across the entire building. Especially when it is quiet already. Speaking of screaming, when you walk in, they scream (I looked up what it is so forgive me if this is a typo): IRASHAIMASE (which apparently is "welcome in" in Japanese. The thing is, instead of making it a classy, cute thing they do, they scream it as obnoxiously as they can, like junior high kiddos would scream "67" these days. It went from cute, to annoying after about the 3rd time I heard them do it, while I was eating. If they all said it in a pleasant classy way, I would really like it, although it's become really quite obnoxious. It even looks like some of the employees are over it. I can't imagine how many times they do that daily. Lastly, the music does not match the atmosphere at all. One time I went in, they had rock music on, the next, they had country. The last time I went, they had 80's. They should either have classical or wordless music such as jazz, or some kind of Japanese music. Not sure why they have such out-of-place music. My most previous server was a doll! I also hope the servers get paid. Some of them weren't as friendly, but I won't rag on individual people, as they may have been just having a bad day. The most previous one had pink hair though and was super cute and friendly. As for another good thing, the ambiance and food are definitely above average and the prices don't break the bank. Overall, quite enjoyable place. None of the things I mentioned should make you avoid this place by any means. This is mostly for the staff and management to fix a few things, if they care. That is it! Hopefully someone at least reads this. Not sure if managers actually read these reviews though. If not, oh well. Hope this helps someone one day!

The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. My favorite maki rolls are the scallop chirashi and the A5, but the scallop maki is the one I crave most--it's so good. Their lychee martini is also delicious and not overly sweet. The Kyoto Blush, on the other hand, was far too sweet for me, so I wouldn't order that one again. I've tried a few other dishes as well. The wagyu sando wasn't quite what I expected, since the meat had more of a patty-like texture that I didn't think paired especially well with the milk bread. The wagyu donburi had a nice layer of crispy rice at the bottom after mixing, but there were too many sour and pickled components, which threw off the balance of the dish a little. Overall, Tenten is a solid spot, especially once you know which menu items you like. Service can be a bit hit or miss, but nothing bad enough to keep me from coming back.

I've come here for many years and I will continue to until it is gone with the wind, replaced by a luxury apartment for students or just otherwise shuttered. Try the fish it's the best Also the NAN BOMB Literally everything on the menu is at least good, but most is exceptional.

This is a fast casual spot -- you order at the counter, they give you a ticket, and call your name when it's ready. No tip required, and service was really kind. The owner was there and was super nice as well. Seating is pretty unique: two long wooden benches, so you might end up sitting close to other diners, but it makes for a lively, friendly environment. They also have three unique sauces worth calling out: a spicy mayo (pretty standard, but rich and delicious), a curry mayo (strong curry flavor in every bite -- not for everyone, but I loved it), and a wasabi mayo (never had this before, and it was honestly great -- strong wasabi flavor that paired really well with my dish). Chicken Teriyaki Bento ($10.50, 7/10) -Comes with a side of rice and ginger, both of which paired really well with the wasabi mayo -Portion size was relatively large -- left me full, but really only enough for one person -Topped with a crunchy garlic/panko crunch that paired nicely with the chicken -Teriyaki sauce on top was a little too salty; would've been better with less salt -They give you a water bottle on the side, which was much appreciated since everything ran on the salty side Overall, a great fast casual spot to hang out with friends and get good food at a good price. Really enjoyed their three sauces -- the mayo, wasabi, and curry were all unique, and I haven't seen that combo anywhere else. Great to see that adventurous side.

I do love a good Onakase restaurant and this one was the one of the top 5. Very far North Austin so…read moreit was nice to get onto a new side of town. And this definitely is a secluded little hideout. The directions they provide on the email for confirmation is very clear and I could see why it needs to be so clear as their building does not have any exterior signage noting that their restaurant is inside. Arrived about 15 minutes early and parked so I could see the front door so whenever they came out to begin greeting guests. I was the first guest to arrive and upon being checked in, you walk up the stairs and it almost seems like you're moving into a lab section of the building when they pull back a folding door and reveal the restaurant side. Very simply decor, nice clean lines and I believe there were three chefs working while the service was going on. For drinks they had a vast menu for sake and wine. Unfortunately, they didn't have a wine pairing, only sake pairing, so I ended up just getting a couple of glasses of wine. The menu itself had about 17 different courses. All of them were really delicious. I must say that the oyster dish as much as I don't like oysters, kinda stood out. At the end of the service you were allowed to go back in order additional pieces . I had to get another one of the mackerel, the scallop, and the O Toro, tuna, which just melted in your mouth. Out of the omakases' I've been to in Austin. This one's definitely maybe top three and I would totally go back to see how the fish changes. As I did ask one of the chefs how frequently the menu changes which he mentioned the fish is more subject to change than the actual ingredients or the preparation of the dish. I did the eight P.M. seating, so there's no rush after. We'll definitely keep in the rotation of my omakase restaurants here in Austin.

I wasn't too impressed with the summer menu as all the nigiri mostly had similar flavor profile and nothing really stood out. Quality of fish was good though. I enjoyed the non nigiri dishes more like the shrimp po' boy and watermelon crudo. I was expecting chu toro to be fattier. Dry aged bluefin tataki taco was a bit too salty for me but my husband enjoyed it.
