I got some take out Afghan food from Chopan. There's a reason why they are in the business for a long time, their food is clean tasting, not oily. We got our favorite Afghan dishes: Chicken kabobs with extra chicken (charbroiled chicken with brown rice and crispy salads), Bolani (with chives and mashed potatoes), our most loved mantoos (ground beef with tomatoes/yogurt sauce), our favorite rice dish Qabuli (basmati rice with lamb, topped with sweet carrots and raisins), and hummus (the best creamy chickpeas). We always enjoyed our food from Chopan. The only criticism is that the order took longer than they told us (20 minutes longer.) but the food was well worth it. read more

I support mom and pop shops, and this one is definitely that. Ran by sweet, honest and hard working folks. Don't get me wrong - the food was good. But a few things: - the food took SO long to arrive. We were the only group in the restaurant and we waited over an hour before our food finally arrived - [[HIGHLIGHT]]there is no AC in here, and just small spinning ceiling fans. How did I not write a review for this place yet? I live in Honolulu but my sister and her husband took me while I was visiting. In May and then again in June! Their Bolani Bread was awesome! I don't know what's in it but it's so good. They also have a dish with eggplant and a yogurt sauce that I really enjoyed. Their sauces are so good! And there's a dumpling that was good too. This place is on my must visit when in town list. I just ate there again. Please patronize this local small business. They are such nice people with great service! Where to begin... Chopan Kabob is very hit or miss. When it's good it's fantastic, when it's not... it's quite mediocre and at times even undercooked (not safe when considering chicken kabob). This rule more or less applies to all the kabobs. The non kabob items tend to be consistent and solid like the bolani. Service is just standard as the place is a bit of a hole in the wall. So I used the "Surprise me wheel" to find this place. I wanted something different for lunch today and well I did get it. This did have some good reviews so away I went. It went from a regular restaurant to just take out only which could have been a clue. It is in the crowded lot of the post office. I found a space and saw the place with an open sign on it. Inside all the tables and chairs were stacked up thus showing take out only. No one was inside. I went towards the counter and found an old man sitting by the register. I saw the menu on the counter and looked for what I wanted. I saw that they had a combo with all three of their meats. So off I went. Chicken , beef and lamb. I asked him if it was going to be good and he say it would be. It would be almost 15 minutes and he said I could pull down one of the chairs if I wanted to wait inside. I just stood around and watched the TV blaring the Trump rally coming up just after the shooting. Soon after my food was ready and I took it home. I was disappointed, all of the meats were overcooked and dry. The chicken was the best but still bad. The beef and lamb were horrible. The beef pieces looked like little miniature T bones. too bad they weren't cooked right. Too long sitting on the stove under foil waiting for people to come in. Oh well I gave them a try. It was not cheap either at 19 bucks I doubt things will change since I don't think they get the volume of customers anymore since it's take out only but who knows. Maybe better next time. Had the house special and it tasted okay 6/10. It seems like it is a family run restaurant. It is takeout only. The white sauce was very runny which I didn't like. It did not add any additional flavor to my meal. The meat was a little dry as well. Not sure if I would try again. read more

It comes with 2 large pieces of Kabob when compared to others similar places around Elk Grove. But it's not just larger, the flavor is on point. This place is located in the Post Office Parking lot. They don't do dine in anymore, so keep that in mind when ordering from here. This is a family run place. I usually see only 2 people taking orders and cooking. Was crunchy and delicious. Each Kabob order came with a mountain of rice, a very small salad, and a thick slice of bread. The rice was good, salad was fresh, and bread was fluffy. We aren't normally fans the free yogurt dips but Chopan's dips are delicious!! Make sure you use it as it really complements the food! We'll definitely be back to try the lamb chops and tikka kabob! We ordered to go and the portions were big! We ordered Chicken Kabob Plate, Lamb Kabob Plate, and Bolani. The plates come with a flatbread! I preferred the chicken over the lamb. Owner operator politely asked about how everything was, when stated the situation that he should have already been aware of, he stated that they "marinade everything" as if the issue was the lack of marinating. I'm a little bit ashamed that Chopan Kabob House is one of the last places in Elk Grove that I haven't reviewed yet. We stopped by after walking back home from Target, and it was a happy accident indeed! The interior is very unassuming. It has been here for years yet it was our first time stepping through the door. Customer service was on point from the younger girl from the get-go! She was so friendly, not just to us but every single person that walked through the door. That is what customer service should be! And there were a lot of people coming in and out, this was a popular spot for a Thursday evening! No wonder they're still around, despite their semi hidden location. We ordered takeout so we had to wait until we got home to dig in. It smelled so good all the way home! It looks like a pretty standard kabob plate when you look at it, but the meat is cooked to perfection. I must have had some subpar kabob dishes before because normally they seem so dry to me. The chicken and tikka kabobs that we ordered were so tender and flavorful, you didn't even need the sauce! BUT don't skip on the sauce either because they were both delicious!! The white sauce was perfect for both meats. The green sauce was spicy and sour, and I think it was meant for the salad but we were eating it with everything. It had such a nice sourness to it from the vinegar, which I loved! The prices seem a bit high for the plates but it's actually justified. They give you a nice portion of food and it comes with veggies and a huge piece of bread. I guarantee you'll be full after you eat this! Great service and delicious food - now I know why this place has been around for so long. I walked into the restaurant to pickup my order. I told them I was picking food up and the lady told to wait 10 minutes. I sat down and waited almost 40 minutes. After for a while they finally finished my food. They didn't say a sorry for the wait. When I got home the food spilled a little bit in the bag.
