Chop't is one of my favorite salad to-go locations. While they can be pricey at around $9.99 per salad, you get a LOT of salad. Think about it- they are finely chopping your salad, so there's no air in those large containers of theirs. It's just dense salad glory. I can usually get two days of lunch out of one salad. I typically make my own salad, but my favorite menu salad is the vegetarian powerhouse. I highly recommend the spa tzitaki yogurt dressing. I have them drench my salad in it. Mmmmmmm. The line can get pretty long here around lunch time, but it moves. Even if the line is to the door, it only takes about 10 minutes from line to register. read more

My friend and I were wandering around the D.C. Chinatown Metro stop. After searching around for a bit and not really finding any appealing Asian restaurants for lunch, we stumbled about Chop't. What caught our attention was the huge line of people flowing out of the restaurant. My initial thought was "people lining up for a salad place??? most peculiar.." But with my friend being a pescatarian, I decided to give this place a chance. We waited in line and it actually went pretty fast. One second we were the confused tourists with suitcases still at hand standing outside.. The next second we were right up at the counter with a huge list of salad combinations to pick from. You can design your own or pick from a list of pre-made/suggested combinations. I tried the "cobb" combination: romain lettuce with crumbled blue cheese, bacon, egg, chicken, avocado, and tomato. At first when I was watching the guy pile up all of the ingredients in the bowl, it didn't look very appetizing. I kept thinking "how am I going to evenly mix everything when it's so globbed together like that?" But then.. he dumped it out on to a cutting board and using a huge chopping saw "chop't" my salad all together. This was so neat! Now my salad was all in bite size pieces and perfectly mixed together. The ingredients were all pretty fresh. It also comes with honey pita bread. I wish they had some of these down south in Florida! It's definitely a unique concept for a salad place. I definitely hope I can go back another time and get a better look at all the different salad combinations. My new favorite place in the world probably. So. Good. I. MIGHT DIE that I don't live in the same city as one. Here is why I loved this place so dang much 1. The most delicious fresh ingredients ever. All the vegetables were so fresh. The chicken was delicious. The avocado was great (and they give you a whole half of one... super great). THEY GIVE YOU SUCH GOOD PORTIONS. I have never in my life felt so full from a salad before. Like I could barely finish it, and that is pretty hard to accomplish when eating a salad. 2. GOOD DEAL like i said.. I was full! They give a huge bowl full of stuff. I mean they don't skimp out on the chicken or veggies like some salad places do. It was a lot and it all tasted so good. They have so many different options. 3. I LOVED THE COBB SALAD. It was just spot on. The chicken, egg, bacon, and avocado just all came together and formed a small piece of heaven in a bowl. I will be trying to remake that salad for the rest of my life probably 4. SO FAST and so convenient. I was in and ordered and had my food in a matter of 5 minutes. You just can't beat that. 5. Togo salad bars are the way to go for lunch in DC. chop't has a fabulous pre-made menu yet also gives you the option to create your own salad. I love the Mexican Caesar and they had this special "Around the world" harissa salad that was delicious, but is no longer on the menu. The chop't line can get crazzzyyy at lunch warning. Depends on what location you are at. The location right by the metro in chinatown is almost guaranteed to be packed. Union station for sure. This location definitely has a rush but also is slower in the non lunch-rush hours. I appreciate this more because the management and workers are more personable. Salads are reasonably priced, i would say $9-$12 especially more if you are adding protein. The salads are a good size you pay more for chips and a drink, obvi but I am normally satisfied with just a salad. I will say not my favorite salad go to bar - I pick Cava or SweetGreen over Chop't if I can. Chop't seems very commercialized and assembly-lineish but the salad is still delicious! I wish the promoted more if they were sustainable or good for the community. Menu can be overwhelming, but if you grab a handheld and wait in the lunch line you should be fine! definitely not a bad choice and a better fast casual salad option. read more

I tried Chopt today for the first time. Although very similar to Sweetgreen, you are much more generous with toppings and have a much greater variety. I tried Chopt for the first time today, based on a recommendation from a colleague. I ordered online to avoid the long lines during lunch and the online ordering process was super smooth. When I got there to pick it up, the woman who was in charge of making sure to-go orders were picked up quickly came and asked my name and went to check on my order. Very friendly. So... the food. I ordered the "Mexicali Vegan Salad" but added in Chimayo Chile Chicken, corn and avocado. I got both the "Mexican Goddess" dressing" and the "White Balsamic Vinaigrette" dressing on the side. Overall it was a fantastic salad! It's extremely large too... two people could probably split it easily. The salad was fresh, delicious and healthy (under 450 calories). I'm glad I got the dressing on the side because the Mexican Goddess dressing was a bit too spicy for me. The only downside was that the salad was pretty pricey - almost $16. Yikes. I really loved Chop't...I really do, but eating here during lunch hours really works my patience. I understand that it's an assembly line, and the workers are supposed to move with speed, but at what point should they take a step back and realize that quality over quantity is always better? Chop't is quickly becoming my late-night-in-the-office-go-to-eatery. The weather's getting colder and I wasn't really in the mood for a salad--luckily now (for a limited time!) Chop't has a WARM seasonal salad. Warm shredded chicken, pinto beans, and brown rice over a bed of chopped kale, spinach, avocado, and Mexican corn. Kind of like a burrito bowl with a healthier base than romaine lettuce. I ordered the regular size ($11) and it was a TON of food. I only managed to eat 1/3 for dinner. Their hot food is not their specialty, so my expectations were pretty low. The chicken was dry and the beans lacked flavor, however the corn gave the dish a nice kick. Fresh healthy food, served relatively fast in a store with a fair amount of seating at a relatively reasonable price (right around 10 bucks - but don't expect a in that price). I love this trend (if it is one) in DC of hearty salad fast food (chipotle) style restaurants. Chop't continues this with made to order salads, including plenty of vegetarian options but also lots of bacon and chicken as well, that are put together, tossed in a bowl, then chopped up before put in another bowl that makes for either easy carry out. Of course, you can go with eat-in and get a ceramic bowl that they'll wash. Disposable are (supposedly) compost-able, which is nice. I went with the Kabob Cobb - and it was honestly mediocre. Thing is, I've eaten here before, and I generally love their salads. Nothing was wrong with this one - in fact the yogurt dressing was fantastic -it just lacked number of different ingredients most other salads have. So, I sort of felt like I ate a bowl of lettuce with awesome dressing. Not bad - but didn't hit the spot like some of there other salads. I'd suggest stopping here - and while I personally prefer Sweet Green - there is more than enough room in the city for both (or like 50 locations of each - as it seems to be). read more

I loved that there were so many options for toppings and dressings so I could get a salad that fit just what I was hungry for. Honestly I would give 5 stars for the soda bar alone! Probably should have got the grains as that is what all the pics seem to have. Too many unnecessary, careless mistakes with my order. I work up the street and I've been going to this Chopt for two weeks now (so about ten days). I take a late lunch so I'm usually the only one there ordering - so it's not busy. When I order, I'll say what lettuce I want, and they'll go and grab the wrong lettuce, anyway. This has happened three times! This last visit, I asked for medium dressing - they haven't gotten this wrong yet so I felt free to check my phone briefly. Bad idea. When I returned to the office, there was pretty much no dressing, at all. My salad tasted like grass. Straight up. And not the clean kind of grass: the gritty, dirty kind of grass. I'm not a farm animal; I don't graze land. I could feel the dirt specs crunch against my teeth as I chewed, and with every bite. I also asked for goat cheese - something else they've gotten right thus far. But, no. Not this time. I saw them put in a full scoop of goat cheese, but when I returned to the office, my salad had only remnants of goat cheese (and not that it was distributed in very tiny pieces throughout the salad), but just enough evidence to infer goat cheese was there before. I'm not kidding. If I didn't need to eat a salad for lunch right now, I would have stopped going there MUCH sooner. Now, I'll need alternative - I just can't keep doing this. read more

Maybe I'm spoiled living in an agricultural area near fresh produce (Northern California)? I've only had their Sonoma sale - seven times as it is so good I cannot stop ordering it. Had my 1st Chop't salad. I LOVED it - the Sonoma Caesar was delicious. Service was a little rude but that may have been because I had never been there and didn't know the routine, I thought I was just suppose to stay in the line but you jump around based on who your salad order is handed off to so they kept yelling at me. This was truly the worst experience I've had with a fast casual place in Metro Center. I needed to be back at work for a meeting, so I ordered online (which I've done before) and it set my pickup time to 12:45. I entered at 12:45 to find people crowded around the pickup counter and cash register... not a great sign. I watched as people in line at the door got their salads and got out before I got mine. Chopt is usually busy during lunch so I don't mind waiting a few minutes but then it was 15 and 20 and 25 minutes. I emailed customer service to see if I could get a refund and just go somewhere else, but I didn't receive an answer. A very pregnant woman who had been waiting longer than I had finally got her order after her coworker literally told the employees that she shouldn't be standing for long periods of time. I finally had to go ask about my order and had it in my hands 35 minutes after it was supposed to be finished. I was late getting back to work as a result. It was clear that there were some orders missing from their system (they used to go through Seamless, but this is the first order I've placed directly on their website) and I give a lot of credit to the two men working the register who jumped in to make salads, take names and give updates when they could. Overall, though, this was an absolute disaster of an experience for a very normal salad I could have gotten at Panera or Cosi or anywhere else, for the same price or less. I won't be ordering from here ever again and I'd recommend staying away unless you're trying to kill A LOT of time. read more
