Never really had a pleasant experience here, but I'm specifically writing about the chicken they have. If you're looking for fried chicken swimming in oil, this is the place. My parents came home with two buckets of chicken. At first I was excited because food! Duh! But after eating one, I felt disgusted. It was probably the oiliest fried chicken I have ever had in my life. Fast forward to a couple of weeks after and the bucket of chicken was still in the fridge. I was never a fan of the place to begin with because of my previous negative experience regardless of branch and food but today was especially disappointing. It's bad enough that their prices are soaring but the quality and quality is decreasing/declining as well. I was surprised when we ordered taho this afternoon that it's barely 60% of the container when it used to be almost to the brim. Maximizing profits this way is a surefire way to fail and lose customers. 5 STARS for the fried chicken. Their menu used to have a 3 piece chicken with rice and your choice of pancit or Filipino spaghetti and a soda. Now, that's no longer on the menu, but you can ask the cashier. It's about $6 or so. Not 100% on the price. The cashiers are always suuuuuuper nice, and courteous. "O po" and "Ma'am" will be heard at least 100 times during your transaction. I haven't tried anything else on their menu. So my rating is solely based on the fried chicken which I think surpasses Jollybee's Chicken Joy. Their halo-halo is pretty good. Kind of pricy. Really 3.5 stars, but closer to 4 than 3. Service was friendlier, better, and faster than any other Chow King location that we've been to. This location is located inside Seafood City along with other Filipino places like Valerios and Goldilocks. There are plenty of tables available to sit down at and eat. The food is as good as the other branches we've visited. The tapsilog with bangus combination is my wife's favorite dish to order. I like the other breakfast choices and the fried chicken. read more

Came here to try their Halo Halo. I was pleased, it's so yummy! But yes, they do put a lot of ice... Well rather a large chunk that was UNBREAKABLE! My boyfriend said it's nothing compared to the Halo Halo in Manila, but it's decent. It's in a Filipino supermarket so it was nice to shop around after. Tons of food and everything was pretty tasty. I got the combo with chicken, fried rice and my fav, Pancit . It came with a piece of Chinese fried chicken. I was reluctant thinking it would be super bland. I was so wrong! This little Filipino/Chinese fusion place does not skimp on seasoning! I gave three stars because half of my food looked and tasted old and the other half fresh. I took my food to go so didn't notice until I was in the car. I would describe this as the Chinese/Filipino fast food comparison to Jolibee. This is a good fast food option, but the service at this location is really slow. My family loves coming here to grab some buchi, steamed buns, halo halo, and a good thai iced tea with boba. A buchi order comes with 6 pieces. The halo halo is interesting because it also has boba on top of it, which I haven't seen anywhere else. Currently there is a promotion of buy 5 steamed buns, get 1 free. They also have freezer to go options of the buns and siomai that you can grab and heat up whenever you want. Not the best food option here in Seafood City, but it's good if you are in the mood. I know that Chow king is in a Filipino market and it is listed as a Filipino restaurant but it feels a bit more Chinese to me with their menu. Whatever country the menu originates from I know I just love noodle soups of any kind so when i saw a nice looking beef noodle soup on the menu I had to try it. I got the combo which came with a Bao bun filled with delicious sweet meat and a drink. My Bao was soft and pillowy with a nice sticky sweet meat center. My soup had a real nice flavor and the noodles were good but you could tell they were not freshly hand made. Overall the price was very good for the meal deal, service was friendly and prompt and my meal was delicious for a fast food counter in a supermarket. Went over to get dinner at this restaurant and after getting the order this guy who was counting the money started shouting at employees and all of us customers can hear it. Clearly this guy who was counting the money is harassing, intimidating and belittling employees. He is displaying his prowess that he can do this in front of customers, that is very disturbing because customers are trying to eat and we can observe the commotion. This guy also gave us very little small packed condiments and when i ask for 1 additional, he is charging me for additional condiments wherein i saw him gave it for free to others. If I could give zero stars I would. I got some taho, went back to my car and tried some while waiting for my uncle doing his grocery. Anyway, as soon as I tried the taho, the syrup and I sago is not good anymore it tasted sour. So I went back and complain not even 5 mins later. The manager or supervisor helped me gave me $5 refund. That night I got so sick till the next day but since it's weekend they didn't count it they said also that was my first meal of the day. Their insurance agent called me and she literally told me I was making things up. Like I want to be sick like that and she was putting words in my mouth. They also told me I could've gone to Urgent Care, but the manager/supervisor told me to wait until their insurance agent calls me and so I waited. (Stupid me) I was too sick all night I don't even know how many pills I popped just to feel better. This place is terrible on so many levels. When you make a mistake once, we let it slide. But when you keep making mistakes on multiple levels, there has to be something wrong with this place. On more than one occasion they did not have a lot of items on the menu. About a year ago, I came with my family and my mother tried ordering their spaghetti but they said they ran out. How odd, it's the weekend, how can you not have anymore when most people eat out on the weekend. Ok, we let it slide. Wow, the chefs should be watching where they're chucking their trash. My family came here again, with me this time. It was nice and quiet given that it is Christmas Day. I ordered their fried chicken combo (comes with rice, pancit, shrimp chips, shumai, and sesame balls). My mom ordered the garlic chicken combo and my dad wanted their wonton soup but they were still making the wontons so he had to settle for beef noodle soup. First of all, they did not have any gravy prepared for the chicken and they couldn't even give me a time frame of when it'll be ready. So I had to have the chicken without gravy. No biggie for me, but for other customers it'll be a problem. Secondly, how can you not have wontons ready for the soup?! Did you think people would not eat out just because its a holiday so therefore it's okay to be lazy?! My family and I have encountered way too many disappointing moments here. It's a Filipino fast food joint connected to the supermarket. The cashiers are always courteous, and the menu has a big variety like shu mai, fried chicken & rice, to siopao (meat filled buns). They also have milk and Thai tea. Like previous reviewers have stated, the halo-halo has chunks of ice that are unbreakable but it still tastes good. The overall feeling I get from eating their food, from the canton (thin noodles) to their fried rice, is that it's oily and semi filling. The taste is decent, but it's not something that I would lose sleep over. After eating their lomi (noodles in thick soup), I was craving for the better restaurant version. If you're looking for something filling (esp meat wise), get the food from the kiosk across from them. I'd only eat at Chowking if you want something small or just something quickly made because you're really hungry. So, I decided to go to Chowking in North Hills. Right after work, I drove to North Hills locations. Knowing Panorama City location, the fight for parking spaces would be a dangerous one. This Chowking is located on the southeast corner of Balboa and Woodley. The Chowking shares a small location within Seafood City. Like many Filipino locations I visit, I get stared at. OK, haven't you seen a 6'3" Filipino before. I guess not. I walked in around 5:10pm and was greeted by a cheery cashier. Trying to sell me whatever he could with a smile. I felt really weird, but had items set in my mind. I ordered a Beef Wonton Noodle ($5.99) and one BBQ Port Siapao ($1.99). Before I write my total, the guy was about to sell some meal deals for me. I was about to just drop my sale all together, but I was already there. My total was $8.68. The wait was about 5-7 minutes. So, I decided to go next door to Valerio's Bakery. 1 star is for the food. The halo-halo had a big chunk of ice & the ingredients were skimpy. Don't know if garlic rice is still being served here. What I got was fried rice with bits of egg & green onions & the rice was yellowish. Pancit canton was skimpy, too. One Chinese-style Fried drumstick lack flavor. Sesame balls & lumpia were just ok. I wanted Garlic Fried Chicken, but they ran out. Poor management. Running out of chicken during a week day? I've eaten at this Chowking before (about a year ago) when the portion size was bigger & the food more flavorful. After Grill City's food disappointed me (read my review), my family and I decided to try some of Chowking's food. This place has your typical Filipino food items, many of them coming with white rice (chicken chow, fried chicken, crunchy chicken, boneless bangus, noodle soup, lumpia, etc.). However, we ordered a chicken rice porridge (I should know what the Filipino name of this dish is, but I can't exactly recall it), which was advertised as a special item. It tasted just right -- not too salty and very flavorful. I added some lemon juice to it, which enhanced the flavor even more. As for drinks, I tried the black gulaman, which is similar to a gelatin drink (heck, that's what it is!). It tasted a little sweet, but just enough to go with any of Chowking's food items. Overall, my experience at this location was ok. At least the food was edible and I have no complaints. If you are looking for Filipino food served fast, go to Chowking. I went here to buy some groceries at Seafood City and decided to have lunch at Chow King because it was convenient. I wish I hadn't. If i had the option, i wouldn't even give this place a star. yes, it's THAT bad. I ordered the breakfast, since it's served all day and that fried tilapia looked really yummy at the time. price: $7.99 for two pork sausage links, rice, 1/4 of a tilapia (total disappointment as the picture clearly showed at least HALF of a fish!), and one egg. a little pricey in my opinion, especially for the amount they give you. I was soo happy to eat the food until we saw what was inside! Let's start off with mine. Not everything on my plate was awful. I was given the top part of the fish (head still on, i'm filipino so that doesn't scare me), which sucked because there's barely any meat on that side! The two pork sausage links were substantial, nothing wrong with them. The egg looked like it had been sitting out for a few hours, and the rice was cold. I get that it's a fast food chain, but put SOME kind of care in the food you give to paying customers!!! My sister's plate was something else! Her crunchy chicken were literally fried scraps of chicken you wouldn't want to eat and i'm really not exaggerating! She found the chicken's BUTT sitting in the middle of other mangled pieces that didn't look appetizing. Her chow mein was beyond overcooked to a point where you could've mashed it and it would pass for baby food... or barf. Her food was incredibly bland and cold as well, but we were both so hungry & on a tight schedule, so we didn't have a chance to really complain and demand better food quality from the manager who we couldn't find, either. Long story short, i'm never coming here for their food again, ever! It was a waste of $14 that I could have spent at mcdonald's or the Goldilocks right next door. I would rate this a one star, but I'm giving it one extra because everything other than the pancit tasted really good. My wife and I came here yesterday and I had the combination that consisted of pancit, garlic fried chicken and rice. My wife had the combination of the crispy fried chicken, pancit and rice. The chicken tasted really good especially the garlic fried chicken. Our major complaint was the pancit. It tasted a bit old and like they warmed it up from the previous day. It's not like we got there first thing in the morning. We were having lunch at 12! But later that day we ended up having problems with our stomach. It was easy to pin point it was the pancit because it just didn't taste right and we shouldn't have eaten it and returned it once we tasted it. One of my favorite places to go to get my Filipino fix. Chow King shares a common dining area with two other restaurants. The tables and area are decently clean. Staff are always polite and friendly. My favorite is the Tocino Bangus breakfast. Filipino breakfast is always great any time of the day. A nice new addition is the Sweet and Sour Pork chef special. If they cut down a little bit on the batter and increase the pork portion it would be even more delicious. Oh the Congee and the fried tofu is good too. read more
