I think people rate this place expecting legit Asian/Filipino classic dishes, it's a fast food joint. Its good for what it is. It's like going to Panda Express expecting real chinese food. Service is ok here, straight to the point, nothing extra. They only hire filipino people just like Jollibee and the other filipino places around the area. Overall its "ok". We did find a plastic piece in one of our Halo Halo's but I'm it just broke off from the lid of the cup. Parking sometimes sucks here but convenient if you're shopping next door anyways. read more

Wednesday Special: 12-piece Fried Chicken and a liter Pepsi for $10 I usually come here after the initial crowd around 8pm, and by that time, they would fry up a fresh batch of chicken for my order. Which, I have to say, is FANTABULOUS (not to salty and extremely juicy!). However, they usually get the rest of my order wrong, so minus one star.. =/ (For some odd reason, they always give me regular rice when I ask for garlic rice..and they make the halo-halo before the chicken is done so it melts and melts and melts for those long 15 minutes....) Overall, it's a great place to get food last minute, I think they're open till 10pm... WE visited this branch today and was disappointed for 2 reasons. First, customer service is not good. I can tell that they are just doing their job and doesn't care about customer's business. 1. Restrooms are dirty; 2. Food is average - I rather go across the street to it's competitor; and 3. Service is so-so. The siopao is average. It won't blow you away. I think the most decent thing in the menu are the breakfast platters. But it is a bit over priced, considering you can get breakfast somewhere else with bigger portions. First off this place is sooo freakin busy!! There's always a line and although the works are polite they are slow. Not sure what's going on back there but either they cant keep up with the amount of people that come in or someone is slacking off. I waited over 15 mins for a 12 pc chicken combo. One time I had to wait over 30 mins for a tray of pancit mikey bihon (sp?) and a dozen siopao. Last time the worker ,as cute as she was, called my name " Baron" and looked at me.. I told her my name wasn't Baron but if that's my food I will take it. It was my food but how in the world did you get Baron from Merrill. Ay-maryoepsh!! Ehh...this place is much more decent looking compared to Mami King but the food here is REALLY salty & a little overpriced. I'd much rather head across the street to Mami King...(just an FYI). My order was simple... A bag of their frozen siopao and 2 orders of taho. But it seemed like my cashier JOAN IRA thought otherwise. She was banging on the register like I ordered the entire menu. I was taught my manners and made sure to smile, say please and thank you after my transaction was completed. She walked away and I took my bag of siopao to a table to wait for the rest of my order. That's when she walked over to me and then proceeded to bag my siopao. Honestly I didn't think much about not having a bag for it. But it was the way she approached me with an attitude that she's was doing me a favor. I have visited twice and both times I have not been disappointed. I ordered #2 from the all-day breakfast menu, which includes tocino, bangus, scrambled egg, and garlic rice. I thought it was really tasty, especially for a fast-food type of joint. I was especially happy with the tocino because it had just the right amount of sweetness. I have also tried their chicken teriyaki with pancit and rice which also did not disappoint. Furthermore, every time I have gone, usually in the evening, it has never been overcrowded and the food is served pretty quickly. I will be returning again when I'm in the area. read more

Their black jelly AKA sago-gulaman, I absolutely love. There is no place that can make it like theirs. Anyone remember the Goldilock's they had across the street a long time ago?? That time long ago when Goldilock's used to serve fresh food? Yeah, Goldilock's sago-gulaman was delicious and this tastes just like it. My go-to place for sago. Their fried chicken is pretty good. Fried chicken is fatty and oily, what else can you expect? I've never had a "healthy" piece of fried chicken. The sauce is also good too. My only complaint is that I wish they served chicken breast. I'm not much of a fan for dark meat and prefer white meat. I make the exception here though. The pansit bihon is okay. Not your Lola's authentic pansit, but will do when you don't feel like cooking. My mom likes their siapao so I guess that's good too. I'll pass on the arroz caldo. The service I've gotten here hasn't been bad, so can't complain about anything in that area (knock on wood). Ordered the usual Longanisa with milkfish... use to have slice cucumbers before... none anymore... offered coffee to come with my meal... Chowking is a Chinese/Filpino Fast Food chain. It's a fast food place, so do not expect much from here. Expect the usual; up and down service, food either greasy or not, and/or food can be tasteless or salty. The only positive is their desserts and drinks. But then again, there are ways you can still mess up making halo halo. I only come here when I am really lazy to cook my own food. There's not much I can really put my review on the establishment, because I always get my food to go. All I can say the service and food is never consistent. Well for the food part, unless it's because I always get it go and wait to eat it by the time I get home. Closing time doesn't mean anything. If they run out of food or anything they are done. Apparently they can't plan ahead or heaven forbid have some surplus. If you want to close early on a Sunday have shorter hours. They had 1 hour till closing. If it was 15 mins till closing its another story. I come to Chowking for their halo halo. It's delicious and always refreshing on a hot day, especially in the summer. The only downside is that there's sometimes large chunks of ice inside which I find difficult to eat with the spoon they provide. Regardless, it's always a sweet and icy treat! read more

Giving it four stars because I've been coming here since I was about ten years old. It used to be a five star fast food restaurant until they changed their menu - again- and most of their items because salty and started tasting the same. I feel as though this place has become way too Americanized. I used to come here because it made me feel at home again but everything now just feels like another fast food. Also, their air conditioner is fantastic however at times it can be too cold that you wouldn't want to sit down and eat your food. They should really work on the room temperature. Their music is way mainstream and loud and might make some older people bitter. How about some Filipino music? You can never go wrong with that. On the plus side, their manager is amazing. At least I believe it's their manager, maybe an immediate supervisor. He is very attentive and respectful and try to get your order ready ASAP. read more

I love Chow King since I discovered them in June 2005 when I went on a vacation to the Philippines. I gave this location (Seafood City) only 2 stars because the seating sucks. The seating is crowded and the tables flimsy/unstable. Thrice now, what I wanted they ran out. I travel over 25 miles just to eat here! It makes it that much more disappointing. I wish they put booths in and got rid of these picnic tables. The employees are good but the manager sucks for not having the foresight to order enough food. read more

I love how this place is a Filipino restaurant chain that serves "Chinese" food. I never give Panda Express another thought, but it totally makes me wonder how Chinese food is localized in Places like South Africa and India. The first time I went there, I was blown away. The service was very fast and efficient. I saw that a lot of non-Filipinos frequented this place so it had mass appeal. The lady at the counter gave me a "frequent diner card" which pretty much cemented the chances I would return. The tilapia smelled a tiny bit fishy, but it tasted phenomenal. The rice was good and the buchi balls were perfect! I came here just for the buchi balls which are those sesame balls filled with bean paste that you normally get a a dim sum place. I can not tell how great it is to get my buchi on without having to queue up on a Saturday morning and fight for a cart. I will pay anything for the peace of mind I get being able to order some buchi balls in a short queue from a friendly face. The second time I went to Chow King (I told you I would go back), I ordered the same thing. It took me forever to get my order out of my mouth. This person behind the counter was interrupted by a telephone calling. Then she had to go ask around to find someone and give her the phone. In the meantime, it appeared that a manager and assistant manager were having a meeting in the dining room. They were obviously much to busy to let my person do her job. It was way more important for her to answer the phone than to serve the customers who got all dolled up to be there. Seconds later, she was interrupted by the clerk next to her to change the register roll. It is called "training"people. Look it up. Finally, I got my order in and my beloved "frequent diner" stamp. My order took ages to be ready. Thank goodness there was plenty of clean seating in the dining room. Otherwise, I would have gotten varicose veins waiting as long as I did. They brought the food out for another take-out order, but not for me. I had to go up to the counter. I ordered the same thing. The tilapia was tough and inedible. The rice was okay. Never been treated so poorly in my life. Been going here for years and this is not the first time I've been treated this way. Came in today to get several breakfast meals. there were two employees to the right of the counter eating (maybe on break) and one in kitchen who saw me and would come forward look at me just walk back never saying a word to me or anyone else that I was there to place an order. Now the other two have seen me by now and never did anything to get help. I called out several times to get help but was totally ignored. I could hear another employee but was ignored by that person also. I called out again and one person on break got up and walked in front of me and rang a bell, walked back never acknowledged me and sat back down not saying a word to me. I still waited a little longer then walked out never getting any acknowledgment that I existed when 3 employees saw me waiting. Now, I use to joke because I don't look like I am from the Philippines but to happen 3 times? Doesn't feel like a joke. I will never be back there and will tell everyone I know not to also. read more
