There was a bit of a wait, but once the food arrived, all was forgiven. The puto bongbong was buttery goodness, the bibingka was delicious, and that BBQ chicken skewer was instant nostalgia!!!! It tasted like something you'd grab from a smoky street-side grill on a warm evening in the Philippines.... hot, flavorful, and marinated just right. Stopped by for lunch. Was greeted upon entering and placed our order at the counter. It's been years since I've had a bibingka from Manila Sunset so I knew we were in for a treat! We ordered a bibingka and a fresh lumpia to share. The bibingka was hot, sweet, chewy, spongy, soft, buttery and just as delicious as I remembered. If you've never had bibingka before, it's a Filipino rice cake and some say it's similar to mochi. The fresh lumpia on the other hand, not so great. The filling consisted of overcooked cabbage, carrots, hard boiled eggs (so overdone the yolks were grey), lettuce, Lima beans, and a heavy amount of crispy rock-like garlic pieces incorporated in the soggy mixture. It was all wrapped in a RAW egg roll wrapper, straight out of the bag. Most Filipino restaurants make their fresh lumpia wrappers FRESH from scratch so this one was a disappointment. I don't recommend it. There is an ample amount of seating inside the restaurant to dine in. Don't let the homeless guy napping on the ground at the store entrance deter you from going in! I've been really happy with the food and how friendly the staff is here. However, I would like to express a concern regarding the temperature in the restaurant today. Given that the weather was extremely hot, it was uncomfortable to eat inside as well, which made dining a difficult experience . I feel bad to the employee who works here i hope the management will do something about it please upgrade your air-con and put more fan in the dining area the home depot is not too far to your location and its not expensive. Manila Sunset has always been one of my all-time favorite restaurants for Filipino food. Some of my go-to dishes are pancit malabon, bibingka, dinuguan, lumpiang shanghai, and tokwa't baboy. They also offer a $12.99 combo meal that includes rice and a choice of two entrées, which is usually a great deal. I recently ordered takeout and chose the dinuguan and the ginataang kalabasa and sitaw. The dinuguan was very good and tasted freshly made. Unfortunately, the ginataang kalabasa and sitaw was disappointing. The kalabasa was completely pureed--more like mashed potatoes with sitaw-- when it's normally served as soft cubes with sitaw in coconut milk. I was honestly surprised when I opened it at home. This made me wonder if the dish had been reheated multiple times, resulting in its overly mushy texture. As for the fresh lumpia... I'd strongly recommend skipping it. Came in for a late lunch and ordered pansit malabon and it looks like pansit cabbage. I guess there was a sale on cabbage, they overloaded our order with cabbage. I ended up having gas in the evening. And to add to that, the kitchen was too noisy for us to enjoy our cabbage pansit. I went here for lunch with family, and I got the chicken barbecue plate ($13.95) with Java rice ($2). The soup that came with my meal had a beef broth that was a tad too salty. The plate came with three skewers, which tasted good. The skewers were slightly smaller than others I've had as they had to fit inside a takeout box. The Java rice tasted adequate, but some of the fried garlic garnishing were a little burnt. I think I prefer the fried chicken plate with just white rice. I did have to follow up with my order as my family got their orders several minutes before mine. The ambience was fine, but the music was a little too loud. There were some hits and misses with some of the dishes that I ordered. However, I should preface this by saying this is probably one of the better Filipino restaurants in the area. Here's what we got: - Pancit Malbon: I've been trying to find a good one and this is probably one of my favorites. It could use a few more shrimp on top, but the sauce and noodles are good and the addition of the cabbage adds a different texture. - Lumpia Shanghai: Good flavor, though kind of small. - Lumpia Prito: super large (and not in a good way), greasy, but the vinegar made this way better. - Chicken skewer plate: the addition of the achara was perfect, even though it teetered on the side of a bit too sweet. Overall flavor was good. - Crispy Tokwa't Baboy: the fried tofu and lechon were excellent. the vinegar sauce wasn't too strong and had a slight sweetness. The only thing I didn't like about this dish was the pig ear. It was too soft and squishy, not a great texture. Overall, there were some good dishes and not so good. Definitely would considering coming back for the pancit malabon, lumpia shanghai and tokwa't baboy. read more

We spent almost $300 for pick up. Let's break it down. Pancit malabon- it was good Krispy pata- ok. Dinuguan- good Sisig- good Bibingka- ok Puto bumbong-horrible Soup - nasty af. Idk what they put there but I was expecting at least authentic Nilaga or sinigang taste. Even the ten cents ramen broth is better. What a joke! Chicken bbq- old and chewy. Bad color. Looks like it came from the freezer and heated up and at least 2-3 days old. It was definitely not fresh. We requested for extra to go box and they still charge us after the over $300 plus we spent. Overall we are not returning on this location. Don't think you can get away with serving old bad food. We know what's fresh and what's not! Do better Manila Sunset! You have a name to uphold! My friend suggested the Filipino breakfast platter: choice of protein ( BBQ pork, Chicken, or beef) with two eggs and rice. We also got the famous Ube desert on a banana leaf. The grilled pork was flavorful and lean, I also like the crispy garlic flakes on teh rice, it added a good kick to the dish. The side sweet and sour reddish was really refreshing. The dessert was definitely a treat! It has a unique ube flavor, and the warm butter on top added a tiny bit of salty taste to the sweetness. This location is clean, has friendly employees and seem efficient. During the holidays, Filipinos love to order bibingka. Usually, it's super busy before Christmas and New Years. I ordered a few days before pickup and choose an early pick up time. I loved how it was so much easier to pick up than the Los Angeles location. The ordered bibingka and crispy tokwat baboy (pork). The tokwat was good and the portion was pretty generous compared to other stores. The bibingka was a little dry and not as flavorful as I'm used to. Their pancit palabok is not worth trying. I ordered the alacarte. And very disappointed, they cut the shrimp in halves and then three pieces of the very cold uncooked shrimp that is not edible. Then there is not chicharon or even egg in it. Just plain sauce and bits of tiny pieces of cabbage! I would rather pay more versus ordering this lousy food, not only you wasted money and then the time going to to this store for nothing! I wonder how they taste their own food and Iam sure they know that pancit malabon is not just made of sauce & pepper!
