It's just not good anymore. Their chaat's are bland and dry. It had none of the fixings that were listed on the menu. The yogurt is also way too sweet. Most of their menu items are pretty overpriced for what you get as well. Got the sandwich, which was literally 2 pieces of bread with some lettuce and a slice of tomato, grilled, for $10 bucks! I could've make it myself at home. The customer service is terrible to boot. We asked for a non-spicy recommendation for someone in our party because of a medical restriction. She pointed out a couple items that they could make non-spicy. It turned out to be extra spicy, even for me! We told her and she just shrugged. read more

Ever since I saw Street Foods International on the Travel Channel, I've been trying to find a place that served Indian street food. One of my friends introduced me to this particular restaurant that served chaats, which meant snacks. So, we came here for lunch on a Saturday and sampled a variety of chaats: Dahi Puri: My friend let me try her dish. Best way to describe this is that it's a puri shell filled with a sweet chutney and yogurt, and topped with coriander leaves and chickpea croutons. It's pretty good. Not something I'd order, since I don't like sweet dishes. But, it's definitely packed with spices. Chole Batture: I got to sample the curry portion of this dish from my friend's sister. The curry was chock full of several spices. But, it wasn't jalapeño spicy. I Iiked it. Vada Pav: I loved this dish! How could you not like deep fried potato in between two buttered dinner roll buns. Wonderful spices, savory chutney, and onions filled these little sandwiches. I would order this again in a heartbeat. Much to my surprise, you can really treat this as a meal. Since it's carb on carb, it's very filling! I didn't even have room left in my tummy for the chips that accompanied this dish. Samosa Pav: I had to take this home to eat the next day, since I was so full from the vada pav. Very similar to the vada pav, but more dough. Still tasty. But, the bread was more chewy the day after. Both this and the vada pav were my favorite chaats. Pav Bhaji: My sister liked this dish. She said that the curry was quite spicy. Mango Lassi: sweet and aromatic. I definitely taste mango throughout this drink. It's a thick drink with tons of yogurt. Get this! Service was ok. I didn't order their tea, since it took them 30 minutes to steep it. Parking in front of the place was alright. It wasn't packed. There's a parking garage behind the shopping complex if you can't find room in the front. Overall, I'd recommend coming here if you haven't tried Indian street food. My friend recommended to stick with the chaats, and to not try the Chinese food here. I think this location, for some reason, has better tasting dishes and service compared to the Sugar Land location, even though both serves the same food. What you do is order at the front, and they will give you a number. Once the order is ready, they call out the number, and you go and get your order. The Vada pau was extremely delicious, with the right enough of spicyness and flavors, and it was great with the chips as sides. I also enjoyed the sambar, and it is also complimentary. It is hot and tasty. I am generally not a fan of sambar, but Chowpatty has always been consistent with the sambar. Another favorite of mine is the Dahi Puri which in my opinion is a great appetizer and is refreshing, seemingly opening your taste palette for more Indian food. Plenty of food for the price. It can get very busy on the weekends especially at night. Had both the Punjabi thali and the Gujarati thali on different days. The punjabi thali is much better in that it comes with a sweet lassi while the Gujarati thali comes with buttermilk. That lassi is useful cooling down the mouth even though the Punjabi thali is not as spicy as the other one. Service is counter. The place is a cluster* when it gets busy. One time, the woman who was busing the tables parked her cart right next to me and started tossing things from another table into it which disrupted my eating. Had dinner with my buddy tonight bc I was craving Chowpatty Chat. Been here several times and I seem to never miss the meat option when I come here. Ordered. Paneer Chili, Gobi Manchurian, Raj Kacthta (favorite), Burji Dosa. Couple of lassis and diet cokes. Didn't miss the red meat or beer one bit. Would post pics but it's all gone. I've been visiting Chowpatty every few weeks and it definitely hits the spot for my chaat cravings! The great thing is that they offer more than just chaat. This last time I tried the mini lunch Thaili and it was just great! I would've liked it to be a little more warm but the Chole, paneer tikka were all very flavorful! The roti was made hot and fresh which help make up for the other curries not being as hot. There were also 2 gulab jamun for a nice dessert after the meal. This place has the best affordable masala dosa! It's only $6 and HUGE! The dosa is the perfect amount of crunchy and soft, just the way I like it and they potatoes are flavorful. I also always get the mango lassi, and although the consistency of the lassi could be a little thinner, the lassi tastes really yummy and is a must have at this place! Masala Dosa: $6.50 Indian food is underrated. Not only are the dishes beautiful and full of color but the flavors dance on your tongue. Based off of Indian street food, Chowpatty brings it to you. This dish it's self was over a foot long. Stuffed with soft creamy potatoes, wrapped in what is called a dosa. Like a crepe but honestly better, super light and crispy. Every dish comes with a simple yet robust lentil soup that is self served and unlimited. Oh and something else that's amazing, it's strictly vegetarian and vegan! I was informed that they use absolutely no eggs in any of their dishes to make vegetarian dishes truly vegetarian. The thing I find super fun is that if you aren't very familiar with Indian dishes, you can just plunge in head first and order something at random and will be pleasantly surprised with the mystery item. This place was really busy when my family came. We had a hard time finding a table, but were lucky enough to grab one when another group left. You order at the front and seat yourself. The menu is huge and everyone will find something they like. My family tried a little bit of everything. We ordered dahi puri, Bombay bhel, a thali, and veg Hakka noodles. The items are decently priced. The food took a while to come out since they were packed with so many orders. My favorite item was the dahi puri and I would definitely get it again. I ordered from this place via UberEATS, so this review is for the food as pickup/online delivery rather than the restaurant experience. This was my first time ordering from here, so seeing what was popular on the App and on Yelp, I got the Punjabi Thali. And the other reviewers weren't kidding when they said it was enough for two - I was hungry, I have a big appetite, and I hardly finished a third of what I got. The box I got was about the size of a medium pizza, and it weighs a ton! Pretty much the only difference I can see between my meal, and the pictures of the same Thali in the restaurant, is I only got one Gulab Jamun (milk solid 'donut holes' in syrup) but I got an extra Paratha (flatbread). I even got the Sweet Lassi (yogurt drink) in a small styrofoam cup, which was delicious, and a great compliment to the whole thing. I'm not sure if I'll be able to stop by the restaurant because my husband is really skeptical about vegetarian food - maybe once he's tried my leftovers it might convince him. This place serves Indian food and Chinese food (intresting). The plate I had was an Indian meal I enjoyed the savory flavors and heat of the different dishes. The only thing was the food was cold I didn't enjoy that especially being most of my dishes were had gravies/sauces. The other thing that made the experience not so great was the temperature in the restaurant it was freezing cold temp need to be bumped up to at least 72 to make in comfortable for patrons. The service was mediocre no one was really interested in giving details on the dishes I had questions about. When it comes to taste the food is pretty authentic which means they don't comprise on taste and flavors..so don't expect it to be the water down version of Indian food. My friend and I ordered the Punjabi thali and onion chili uthapam and decided to share as we were that hungry. The guy behind the counter was pretty helpful and explained what the menu items were in detail...so thank you ! The punjabi thali was alright, didn't care much about the spinach or the eggplant masala. The daal and chickpeas weren't too bad though. The thali came with bread, dessert and buttermilk too. The buttermilk was WAY too sweet..it was like Ben & Jerrys topped with chocolate syrup topped with cupcakes, topped with an entire wedding cake SWEET!! The onion uthapam came with two dipping sauces , coconut and peanut I believe. The uthapam tasted like a savory pancake with onions. Couldn't finish it as it was oozing with grease and wasn't very appetizing. The sauces weren't too bad. I actually really liked the peanut sauce, it tasted like peanut butter added with sriracha sauce. The best part was the complimentary samabar, it was DELICIOUS! The cool interior is not what one expects when looking at this place from outside, but walk in and it is a pretty cool place with movie posters on the wall, a fairly modern looking black and white decor and an attempt to make the counter look like the food cards on chowpatty beach in Bombay. The menu is very broad and the best made items are the ones you might find in Bombay. The Bhel was a generous portion. albeit a bit to generously dressed, but had good flavor from the bits of green mango, pomegranate and crunchy onions and papdi, the wada pav which is essentially a potato fritter in a bun was quite good with the bread being soft, yet with a slight chew which adds to the eating experience. Dosas's were not the greatest, but serviceable. Overall, worth a visit, if nothing else to eat some typical bombay food in a great kitschy setting! read more

The hands down best place to get Indian food in the Hillcroft area. Even if I'm not in Hillcroft and I let my hungry mind wander and start thinking about the punjab E thali, I almost always find myself driving down 59 and ending up here. Mind you I haven't tried everything on the menu, but my two favorite go-to items are the punjab E thali (which i can never finish myself) and the dahi puri. If you get the thali, don't order dessert, as it comes with a whole cup of yummy, sweet yogurt stuff. My first time trying dahi puri was here... it is like an explosion of flavor in your mouth! As a side note, this is NOT the place I would go for a good masala dosa, but honestly that doesn't take much away from the place. The theme of the place is most definitely movies. The walls are decked with Hindi movie posters, ranging from really old classics to newer ones that are more familiar to me. Every time I bring my dad here, he tells me a story about the time he watched this classic or that one... seems to bring him a sense of nostalgia. I like that about the place. The workers and manager have always been polite. Whenever I don't know what something is, they never hesitate/are annoyed in explaining the items on the menu to me or making recommendations. Quantity and quality, what more can you ask for. Their Thali is better than any other I've had in Houston.

Atmosphere is nice. You order at the counter and then head to your table to look at the huge array of Bollywood posters lining the walls (organized by lead actor.) The chairs are designed to look like film reels. The food, however, is nothing to write home about, if only because of the cook's heavy hand with the sugar. EVERYTHING was sweet. The dahi (yogurt) from dahi vada was just a hair less sweet than the sweet lassi that came with the Punjabi thali. Any chaat with dahi in it was completely unenjoyable because of it. All the dishes of the Punjabi thali started out fine. They were all creative, distinct, and made with care. Too many Punjabi establishments (esp. in Dallas) seem to offer the exact same fair as if all separate locations of the same chain. As the meal went on, however, the amount of sugar in each dish (even the ones that didn't seem sweet at first) began to wear on everyone. Everyone that got their food, that is. The chaat sampler we ordered as an appetizer came out after 3 people had gotten their entrees. When two of those 3 people were done eating, the 4th person's entree came out. My dosa conveniently arrived after everyone else had finished, allowing me to be the center of attention as I tried to quickly eat so we could hurry along. In short, this restaurant has potential. An enjoyable, welcoming atmosphere and well-seasoned food....just tone down the sugar. If your food is too sweet for a Gujarati family (which it was), you should probably tone it down a bit.
