I was excited to try True Food Kitchen because the pictures online looked amazing, but unfortunately my experience didn't live up to the expectations. I ordered the Jambalaya Pasta and it looked nothing like the photos online. The noodles were different, the texture was off, and instead of being a saucy pasta, it came out more like a soup. I ended up swapping it for the pepperoni pizza, which was better, but still nothing memorable. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the food I received to reflect. Went for our first time for dinner yesterday evening with some friends who are regulars. Everything we got was absolutely delicious and good quality. Best hummus I've had in a long time and the salmon dinner was very satisfying. Got the flourless chocolate cake for dessert and shared but next time I'll get my own piece! I've visited this location and the one in Austin several times. However, it has actually been a few years since I last visited this location. The food is healthy and they have great options for vegans and vegetarians. They do have meat and fish options for those that want that. Tonight my husband and I had the edamame dumplings, market salad with salmon and the Margherita pizza. The dumplings were good but just like warm. Pizza was great! They make it with sourdough and the pizza sauce is light. The salad was good as well but I wouldn't say anything was uber exceptional today. The service was also pretty good and I say that because our waiter was a nice guy. It apparently was busier than usual and he was having a difficult time keeping up. He was still attentive but he just seemed distracted. We asked for water twice before he brought them. It also would have been nice if he had brought out salt and pepper for salad. That's it. Went here for lunch and the service was 10/10! Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. It was quite and casual spot for a delicious meal. I got a plant based vegan burger and a side kale salad and both were really good. The sauce on that burger was amazing and I'm not a sauce person like that. Came to dine in for the first time on a weekday between 7-8pm. It wasn't busy and it took about ten minutes for a server to come to my table and get me water. I finally had to ask someone if it was counter service since staff passed by and didn't stop to help. To start off I ordered The O.G., which was a sparkling water with ginger and lime. I'm a fan of ginger drinks due to my ongoing nausea from migraines and this drink hit the spot! For dinner we ordered the magnificent duo, started with a bowl of the seasonal butternut squash. The soup was served extra hot, just how I like my food. It tasted fresh and had hints of sage sprinkled on top. Ambiance was nice and quiet throughout. For the mains we opted for the Lasagne al Pesto and All American Burger for the Earth Day special. The food was all fresh and made in a reasonable timeframe. The O.G.: this is the perfect refresher blends sparkling water, ginger and lime. If you want the flavor to last ask for less ice. Seasonal Butternut Squash Soup: 10/10, the flavor was impeccable topped off with sage. Lasagne al Pesto: 8/10, the sauce was a little bit more on the watery side and the plate was served warm not extra hot like the soup and the burger. All American Burger: 9/10, the bun and buttery lettuce were my favorite part. The meat was nice and tender and marinated and paired perfectly with the cheese. Kale Salad: 6/10, it was quite bitter. Didn't end up eating it, did not have an appetizing taste to it and I LOVE kale. Unfortunately, tonight I became a part of the 10% who don't recommend this Houston's Galleria district location. I ate here tonight and was terribly disappointed. Let's not get it twisted Drew my server was amazing. Drew was very timely, attentive and great conversation. I was served quickly and the check up times were right on time. Drew was marvelous! The unfortunate part of my experience was my food was cold, my French fries were burnt, these fries were the end of the barrel -- from the bottom burnt. All of the fries were extremely short and burnt. My veggie burger was cold and the lettuce was only green after the third request for green lettuce. It was like they gave me green lettuce on the third time so I could stop asking. By the third request my burger was frozen. I don't like pretzels but the fries may as well have been pretzels. Drew offered to see if he could get me a discount. I thought that was humane of him but I declined and told him the experience was so terrible I don't want to end up with it being worst by ending up in a conversation with Mani. Mani is the manager. I found Mani in my opinion to be disconnected, unconcerned and "I'm ready to go home attitude". Granted I did come in at 9:30pm when the closing time is 10pm. Some of you may say, "well what do you expect ". My take on that is if you don't want me to come in at 9:30pm then close at 9:30pm. This restaurant isn't on the low end where pricing is concerned. So I was disappointed to say the least. The experience overall rated a 2 because Drew my server was so great. If it was left up to the cooks, the food and Mani I would rate this Galleria location a 0 (zero). I gave Drew a big fat tip (monetary) and promised him I was never coming back. Thank you for your service Drew. However, I try to be a woman of my word and I don't intend to return. That's why I couldn't let you make it right. You only get one chance to make a first impression. The salad was pretty standard. The salmon was really good! I'm not the biggest fan of fruit within my salad. But, it was overall fine. I will have to say, this is known as a really healthy restaurant. They will not serve you fries or soda. The interior is really nice and modern. Seating is around 50 people. This was first time at True Food and I loved the interior vibe inside. It's very earthy and green! I ordered the Lasagne Al Pesto and overall it was just okay. It was a nice amount but it didn't taste traditional. It had somewhat of a curry or Indian spice in there that I did not care for. I can see people enjoying this dish as it's unique and everything did taste fresh but I don't think it's the dish for me even though my mom really enjoyed it! I have been ordering/eating at the True Food in Dallas, Texas for the past 15 +years. It has always been a staple in myself and my family's diet. When I moved to Houston two years ago I was so excited to see there was a True Food kitchen close by... But to my dismay, I have been continuously disappointed. Service was fast and polite. The food came out so fast that I highly suspect it was just reheated. I understand that this is a "healthy" spot, but I didn't realize healthy meant flavorless and dry. I ordered the Chicken Tender Plate which came with kale (which was fine) and four tenders. Frankly, this is ridiculous for the price. I'd rather go to Cane's. I got here on a Sunday at 2pm with a friend and instead of valet parking ($7 or $10, I forgot), we parked in the garage for free. As we walked in, the host sat me down and I was impressed by how airy, clean and spacious TFK was. There was plenty of seating as they weren't crowded. Had the weather been better, we would have sat outside on the patio. It took a little while for someone to come over and serve us. The young lady we had was new (so exercising grace to her), so the service was very, very slow. She also wasn't well versed on the menu so we just took a chance on what to order. We started with the edamame dumplings, and for my meal, I got the vegan burger. I also got green tea and the O.G refresher. Our food took almost 30 minutes to come out and it was so painful to wait. I just didn't understand what was taking so long because it was relatively empty. The food was really good but I sent the O.G refresher back because something seemed to be missing from it. we came at 5:30 and didn't get our food until 0700. I ordered a Korean noodle bowl which gives you a fifth of the portion that you would get out of Korean restaurant, and then they came by and grabbed our plate about 15 minutes after 0700, asking if we were done after they touched the plate. For the shrimp cabbage cup appetizer, they gave us the wimpiest shrimp I have ever seen. Looks like they got a frozen Walmart bag and hand selected the smallest shrimp in the bag. The place was packed, clearly a lot of people loved this place. Personally, I do not understand, and I'm completely baffled on why anybody would come here.
