So far, I've had Hot and Sour soup which was just ok, Egg Drop Soup which was very good, WonnTon Soup which was bland,Roast pork with Vegetables, and Buddhists delight which were both very good. We love Chows and eat here weekly. I really don't understand all of the negative reviews, we have amazing food and service every time. Also I will always recommend Chows over Asian Yummy (more like Yucky lol) Our meals at chows are always ready in 15 minutes and are piping hot. We get the Chicken & Broccoli and Sweet & Sour Chicken combination meals and they are so good every time. I've also tried switching up my usual and have never been disappointed, I've tried the Singapore Mei Fun, a few Lo Meins, Chow Mein (east coast style) and every time it's delicious. Not the greatest. Our usual Chinese spot down the road is closed for renovations, so thought we'd give Chow's a try again. Always hear a crazy wide range of opinions from love to full hate. We've tried Chow's over the years. Never been thrilled, but it's been several years. Wasn't again this time either. I got the General Tso chicken. I ordered medium spicy. It was so bland. If that was "medium", what do "mild" and "no spice" taste like? And not just the spice level. The sauce on the chicken was just sticky sweetness, no tanginess or other real flavor I could note. My husband had the chicken soup with rice. Or let's call it the rice with a bit of chicken broth. So much rice. Just enough chicken soup to call it a liquid. And the soup, too, was bland, even just broth pulled out of the rice. Overall, not bad as to say it was inedible, but not good as being truly enjoyable. We order from this restaurant regularly. They make the food quickly and the whole family enjoys it. It isn't fancy but they have a variety of dishes and make them consistently. To us this is a great combination of taste, choice, and convenience, making it a great option that we use regularly. We have never had any problems with our orders or meals. This has been our go-to place for Chinese since we moved to Collingswood. Pretty convenient despite the fact that parking can be crappy. Anyways, after last night's order, my husband and I decided we were done. We asked for a big brown rice instead of a small white rice. We were charged $1 for swapping our special for brown rice but then also charged a side of brown rice. I felt like it was an overcharge, but not a big deal. Eating the left overs today, I found a cooked piece of plastic in with the chicken. Gross. It's probably what's left of fried plastic wrap. read more

Chow's is in the downtown area of Collingswood. It's a "Main Street" type of situation, so looking for street parking could be a problem. However, I found a small public parking lot, with free parking for about an hour, just a block away. Chow's is a hybrid Chinese place. Half of it is a Chinese takeout and half of it is a sit-down dining area. This evening, we opted for dining in. I thought service was okay, even if a bit laconic. Their General Tso's Chicken, from the chef's specials part of the menu, was really good though. One downside of dining in is their dine-in menu is missing the combination platters. Been ordering here since '92! The ladies in the front don't mess around; they are direct and straight forward with you. Service is fast and everything I've gotten is delicious! My go to apps are their crab rangoons, chinese pizza, and wings in General Tso's sauce. For soups, wonton, egg drop, and hot & sour are perfect for the freezing days. For entrees, I always order the Singapore Noodles, Chicken Broccoli, Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, and General Tso's. Surprisingly, their sushi is good too! This is an unfortunate review. I think chows has good food however chows offers terrible customer service . We order from there all the time and chows constantly has leaky bags ! You have to be especially careful. Saturday we used Grubhub to pick up and true to form the food arrived in a leaky bag. The poor driver from Grubhub was so apologetic and we told her that this has happened before. We tried to call chows but it was busy . The driver called to Grubhub and it was immediately taken care of. 15 minutes goes by we receive an angry call from the lady at chows who is especially rude and argumentative. She said it was the drivers fault. We politely said NO it's your fault and we told her how we have ordered before and your bag is always wet and leaking. She continued to argue on the phone. Customer is never right at chows. Attached is the picture of our food on the ground and chows offers to refund half of the money! Ummm no thanks chows. If I could give this place no stars I would, this place is the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. My partner and I were so disgusted with everything. We order General tso chicken, crab cheese Wonton, pork fried rice and a egg role. Everything tasted spoiled and rotten. We contact grub hub which turned into this whole deal. We just moved to the area about 4 weeks ago. Anytime we move somewhere we have to check out the local takeout Chinese places to find our go-to. Hands down, Chow's is the best we've found of the 5 or 6 places we've tried. Their food, even delivered, tastes fresh and delicious. We've tried most of the staples you'd get from an American takeout chinese restaurant and all of them impressed. Downgrade! I'd be misleading people if I kept my four star review at four stars; my recent experiences with Chow's have been anything but. For starters, they won't take credit cards for orders under $20. Does take-out Chinese EVER cost more than ten dollars? I think not. Next, the food. Last Friday I defied Lenten mores and ordered the chicken with broccoli. At $4.50, there is no denying that this is a total deal-- until you taste the chicken. The uniformly flat pieces seemed suspect, and the taste was not good, no matter how much sauce was soaked through. The chicken itself was also minimal; the dish would have been more appropriately named, broccoli with chicken. Even though I ask every time I call, there is still no option of brown rice; just boring old white or fried. Surely I can't be the only person who wants brown? The "amazing chicken" was still tasty the last time I ordered it, and I've always been pretty happy with their wonton soup. When I'm craving one of these items on my lunch break, Chow's will suffice, but I'll be trekking to Han Dynasty for now on when I really want to get down with some good Chinese. read more

I went here to try the general tso chicken. Here is what happened. On a chilly Sunday night on the first day of spring I came in and was seated fairly quick. I gave the menu a glance. They offered your typical selection of Chinese and sushi. Everything was fairly priced. Especially for a sit down Chinese place. Things I noticed was the waitress was by herself serving people and taking phone orders. There's only so much a person can do but she was on a ball! Kudos to her! The atmosphere is what's expected. The music was some kind of 90's or 80's pop and hip hop. Everything was fine. So can the general tso deliver? Well... the general tso was your typical general tso with broccoli and a bowl of white rice. The chicken indeed does have white lean meat inside! Health freaks this is a plus!!!! The chicken was still crunchy and hot. The sauce had the appropriate mixture of starch, vinegar, sugar and etc... the rice was fine. Broccoli wasn't overcooked or undercooked. Overall they delivered. Let's face it, Chinese food in America is hardly authentic Chinese food but with that said, Chow's does a wonderful job of "Americanised-Chinese". When we used to live in Collingswood, we ordered from Chow's often. Our order was always exactly correct, it was hot and fresh and it was prepared pretty quickly. I've eaten inside the restaurant a few times and have never had anything but great service and food. I'm a huge sushi fan and Chow's selection and quality are as good as any place I've ever eaten sushi. I don't know this for fact, but I believe that Woksabi across the street from Chow's is owned by the same family and whose sushi is remarkable also. My partner and I have been out of Collingswood for 9 months now and we returned last week to Chow's for dinner. The owner was our server and I was really impressed that she remembered who we were and even remembered that I was going to have hot and sour soup. Nice touch! Chow's is a nice little gem of a restaurant among the many that Collingswood has to offer. Dining in may not seem like the thing to do but trust me when I say that it's a nice experience also. My only "complaint" is that the air conditioner was leaking through the roof near the restrooms...they had cardboard on the floor and it was soaked. Sort of made the whole experience of dining in a bit less attractive. However, on several visits with a group of our friends, we've never had any complaints. A consistently good experience. Chows is your typical, downtown Chinese joint. You can eat in or take out and in both cases, service is great. I order from Chows once a week just to get out of cooking for myself and, of course, to satisfy my craving for chicken in garlic sauce. Though the food is standard fare, what really stands out is the service and hospitality. Everyone working here is courteous and always greets me when I walk in. They even stop to say hi when they see me wandering down Haddon Ave! An even bigger surprise was when they gave my girl and I a Christmas present since we come in so often! My relationship with Chow's was a confusing one. I'll just throw it in a list for ya. 1. My sushi order would be fresh, then my bfs order smelled bad and was inedible. Are some pre made? What's going on back there? 2. A friend and I ordered a combo each, while dining in, and I asked for brown rice. Instead I was served white rice that was brown from frying. I brought it to the waiters attention, who then went and got the owner (I assume) she told me it was brown rice. Yes in color...but that's about it. 3. This same trip we were served rancid miso soup. She said it was "vinegar to keep it fresh all day". Nope. I've had the miso soup on numerous occasions. It was rancid. 4. Only time I got fresh sushi, hot spring rolls, miso soup that would pass a health inspection, etc. is when I'd spend over $50 (we'd get a couple sushi party platters...we really like raw fish, okay?). I've found better options and will never return to chow's. read more

It's your average chinese food place, nothing special. The $20 min for Credit Cards is what makes me stay away. If you're going to give out a take out menu that says you accept all major credit cards, that's where you should give your minimum purchase policy - not at the register after the food has already been prepared. I placed an order between 10-20 dollars. When I arrived with my credit card, they pointed to a sign by the counter that says $20 minum and asked me to walk to the ATM to get some money. I told them that was too much to ask for a customer and that they can cancel the order (of course it's already been cooked and bagged up). Surprise, surprise, they let me pay for it with my credit card "this time". Too many places forget that theya re in the service industry and that the customer's have some rights too. As soon as I pointed out it was their mistake for not being upfront about their minumum they should have accepted my card - not asked me to walk to an ATM (of which i would have had to pay a fee) to pay for my order. I am not a huge fan of Chinese food but have been pleased with the majority of things I've tried at Chow's. PROS: Yummy General's Tso's Chicken, pork fried rice, pork lo mein, vegetable fried rice, and egg rolls. My whole family ate over on Christmas and everyone enjoyed their meals. My brother claims the egg roll is the "best ever." CONS: The Crab Rangoon had too much fried dough and not enough filling. I figured I'd give the Sushi a try knowing it was probably a bad idea to get Sushi from a Chinese Restaurant. Unfortunately, I was right. Neither the taste nor the texture was good. And it's not the best you'll ever have, and they don't deliver (cry, sniff, pout) but it really isn't bad for the price! Some tips: -More than one of you ordering and you're planning on getting a bunch of rolls? Just order "Sushi Party A". It's about $40, but you'll get a ton of stuff and it's worth the money. -EVERYTHING takes 15 minutes according to them. One eggroll? 15 minutes. Sushi Party A? 15 minutes. Doesn't matter. We ordered from there recently and while the order received was accurate, half of it lacked quality in some way. I went here the first night I moved into my new place, since I really didn't feel like cooking. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken, egg rolls, and hot and sour soup. They filled the order fairly fast for a walk in and the price was allright, although it seemed a little more than I'm used to paying for Chinese takeout. The hot and sour soup was pretty decent with plenty of vegetables and tofu in it. The egg rolls were a disappointment. Way way too much frying and grease. I think they pulled some out that had been sitting around for a while. The vegetables in the Kung Pao chicken were pretty crispy. The chicken was tender. However the sauce was not spicy or very flavorful. I talked to my roommate and he acted surprised that I didn't have a really good meal. I'll try the dish he recommended next time, and I"ll go earlier to avoid the end of the night leftovers. read more

I've eaten at Chow's a number of times -- once for table service but otherwise for take-out. The dining area is okay and I've never seen it crowded; table service was attentive and fast. I've only had their sushi, which has generally been reasonably flavorful and well-prepared -- not bad for a standard Chinese place. I've found the rice to be on the dry side a number of times, and wish they had an option for brown rice. I'm also disappointed that they won't take credit cards for bills below $20. I have never got mess up order from them since the lady always pay more attention to her packages. The reason why I am a big fan of chow's food is because their food always get ready in 10 mins no matter how busy they are and the food is always fresh, hot and delicious.
