As many others did, I did some intense research on hair salons before choosing one. I wanted a salon that I could just go to & say "do whatever you think looks good." I just wanted something new that suited me. That was a big mistake. We did have a consultation before the cut, but I honestly didn't know what to expect, I just wanted something that looks good. I couldn't say, right then and there, that I would like it because I needed to see it on me first (which is impossible). Christina & Brett (her assistant) were both so excited about the cut that I thought that maybe I was just not used to the cut. They said everyone would be staring at my new cut because it is so awesome. I have had people staring at me, but it doesn't look like they are staring because it looks good. I waited a couple of days to see if I would eventually fall in love with the cut, but I did not. Everyone I know have said "ewww" or "it doesn't look THAT BAD," which makes me sad but I feel that as long as I am confident, anything would look good + hair grows, so it's okay. My hair was long down my back, but is now shoulder length. I have fringed bangs, but WAY TOO MUCH of it. I can't do anything with my hair and if I don't brush or style it correctly after showering, I would look like a huge mess. I can't even use a headband because I have a weird mess of shortness by my ear that is not long enough to push back (I posted a pic - photo 132 or around there). Christina posted a before & after pic (photo 131, I think). Obviously, you cannot see the SIDEBURNS in her AFTER pic because it is UNDER all that hair. You could see it once I TRY to push it back or pin it back. She also brushed my head so hard that my scalp was red & scabs were lightly bled. I would feel better if, either my hair was a little longer, OR I had less bangs. I look like I got a bowl cut and I already have thick hair, as it is. The more I get it cut, the shorter it will get, so I will just wait. Lesson learned, even 100% positive reviews doesn't mean I can just go in and tell them to do whatever they want. I have to agree, I never met a hair stylist like Christina. She seriously just oozes passion for what she does and I admire that. She currently works at the Gods and Heros salon in Costa Mesa, which by the way has an awesome urban interior! I totally felt like I walked into Rock Band. I came to give my boring old hairstyle a new cut and some flair. I brought a picture, but Christina told me certain parts of my hair weren't long enough for the cut I wanted so we improvised a bit. Instead of getting a full on haircut, I got my layers trimmed and straight bangs and about an hour of hair wisdom (I seriously knew nothing about hairstyling and hair management) and recommendations of places to go since I was new to the area. I actually prefer just sitting back and relaxing as my hair gets done, but I didn't mind talking to Christina. Overall, a different (in a good way) experience than ones I've had at other salons I've been to. My cut ended up being $75 with tip, which was very pricy for someone with my wallet size. Would I come back? Maybe if my hair was in desperate need of a cut and I really didn't trust anyone else to do it, but for now I'll explore my options. read more

Christina is a rare find in hairdressing. I'm a fine-haired blond who had been salon-hopping for years, until I found her a couple years ago via Yelp...and the great reviews were right. Have been going to Christina ever since at Gods & Heroes, and now at Lotus Salon on 17th Street in Costa Mesa where she just moved (great, open atmosphere). This week she chopped my hair from long (past shoulders) into a super trendy short bob. And she touched up my blond roots (which other blonds will appreciate is really hard to get done right!). I waited a long time before I finally went to see Christina for my hair after reading about her for a long time at Empire Salon and Shanghai, but finally I went for the big cut after splitting with my ex. I had known she had an affinity for doing short cuts, bobs, and pixie cuts, so of course I went to the expert to chop off my long, long hair. I haven't even thought once about seeing another stylist since I first went to Christina in August 2010. She is the only person I've ever had cut my hair where I've left the salon and TRULY loved my cut and style. Usually I end up rushing home to trim a bit here and there off my bangs and to wet my hair and restyle it, but I have never had to do that with Christina. In fact, half the time I try to invent reasons to go places after she does my hair, so I can show it off! Yes, the cut is great, and you can see that feeling reflected in all the other reviews. This is an edit from a previous review. So, I used to see Christina at Shanghai Salon in Costa Mesa. That was fine. I felt like a few of the other people were acceptable, but I was always irritated that the lady with the frizzy blonde hair was butting into my conversation. I found out later that she was the owner... (What? Shouldn't you take better care of your hair if you own a so-called "upscale" salon??) Anyway, I just found out that Christina is no longer at Shanghai. She's just started at Gods&Heros in Costa Mesa, near South Coast Plaza, the Lab and Camp area. I'm excited about the move... I ALMOST went to Gods & Heros before I saw Christina the first time. Now I get the best of both worlds! :) _____________________________________________________ I'm yet another person who has had nightmare cut after nightmare cut. When I moves back into the area after a few years, I was worried that finding a good stylist was going to be a challenge. Fortunately a friend recommended I go see Christina Sanchez. Thank gawd! I can't believe I haven't written a review for Christina yet! She's been my stylist for the last few years and I love her! First off, she definitely listens to what you want and will can tell when something you might envy won't look the same on you. She always checks on how much length she's cutting off, and is really passionate about her craft. Sometimes I wait a bit too long in between cuts and my hair is just wild, my thin and fine hair gets new life every time I see her and she always makes sure I leave with tons of volume. This review is about FLAMBOYAGE. OMG AMAZING! I was highlighting my hair for a while now and Christina told me about a different style called Flamboyage. When she showed me the pictures I honestly couldn't tell what the difference was. But she's a hair genius so I trusted her and gave it a whirl. And boy am I glad I did. I loved having highlights, but hated the re-growth and demarcation that came after a few weeks. Now, with the help of Flamboyage and Christina, I no longer have that eye-cringing demarcation. Instead, I have natural natural natural highlights that don't look like streaks. It literally gives you the appearance of being born with natural highlights. It's been almost 3 months since my first flamboyage and my highlights still look so natural even with the regrowth. Since the process is done with random selection and doesn't start at the roots, your hair just grows out like you had prior streaks created by the sun. It's not the sun. I donated my hair to Locks of Love for the first time and I've never had short hair. I came to Christina on a referral from my sister. My sister is a devoted customer who followed her from Shanghai Salon. I can't even remember the last time I had my hair cut by a professional since I never had a good cut before, but I took this chance due to the drastic length change I was going to be making. Christina talked me through the whole process and figured out everything I was aiming to have before we started. It was a tad busy, but I didn't mind since I got a free deep conditioning while I waited since I checked in on Yelp. Christina tied and cut off 12 inches for donation, which was kind of traumatizing at first, but she was very reassuring that she would give me a great adult look instead of the boyish bowl cuts I was so used to when I was young. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I just let her do what she does best. The whole process took about 2 hours, as she was very precise and made sure that my hair had great texture and wouldn't poof since I have so much. The time went by pretty fast because we just chatted about random things while she did the cutting. I've received SO many compliments from family, friends and co-workers that all have known me with my longer hair and they all say this new style is much better and makes me look my age, rather than a little high schooler. =) I'd definitely come back cause she shows that she knows what she's doing and even figured out a good look for me though I had no idea what I was aiming to do. read more

I've been going to Christina for about a year now and I don't know why I'm just now writing her a review. Let me just say that I'm sure we've all had our fair share of bad haircuts. Personally, mine has ranged from "Girl Interrupted"-esque bangs to a "trim" that was more like 6 inches chopped off to my least favorite of all, "lots of layers and keep it long," which was taken to mean a haircut that resembled a mullet that rivaled Billy Ray Cyrus' mullet during his "Achy Breaky Heart" days. I had read so many good reviews on Christina so I decided to finally book a cut with her. Mainly, I was curious to see if she's all that's hyped up to be. And she was (and still is) all that's hyped up to be and more. She is extremely professional and is super knowledgeable about hair. She listens to what you want and is honest when it comes to letting you know if a particular style or cut suits you (like a good hairstylist should). When you say you want "an inch off the ends," she asks you to SHOW her what you mean by an inch so you're on the same page. Even better, she'll cut a snippet and show you how much she cut off and will ask you if it's okay for her to keep cutting. See? No bad surprises here. Another nice thing about Christina is she's not pushy with products. She talks about the products she's using as she puts them in your hair but never cajoles you to walk out of the salon with them. At times she'll actually just suggest similar products that you may already have and show you how to use them with your particular hairstyle. Best part of Christina is she offers free fringe trims. Seriously. FREE. No need to go on youtube and find videos on how to cut your own bangs. (you've probably done it, don't lie.) Overall, getting your hair done by Christina is a super positive experience. She's meticulous and makes sure she devotes the time needed to your hair. I am blessed and cursed with extremely thick, wavy hair. For my entire life I have hopped from stylist to stylist in hopes of finding someone who could bring out the full potential of my mane. Sadly, these visits always ended in disappointment, with me leaving the salon with my locks looking just as drab as they were when I went in. Enter Christina Sanchez! I found Christina almost two years ago when she was still working at Shanghai. She's now at God's and Heroes which is a really cool space and suits her edge and attitude well. If you have ever felt weighed down by uncontrollable, boring hair, you know how thrilled I was when Christina finished and I looked into the mirror to see what looked like an entirely new head of hair. It was polished, had movement and that day I actually fell in love... with my hair! Christina is absolutely meticulous. She takes her time to make sure she's thorough and that I'm happy with what she's doing. Last year she gave me a Brazilian Blowout and I was so impressed with the way she made sure to get every last millimeter of every last strand covered. Hair is a serious thing: it can make or break your entire look, and Christina takes her task of making every client look immaculate very seriously. But not only is Christina incredibly skilled, the girl's got impeccable taste! She knows what looks good and she's not afraid to tell you. I never would have known what to tell Christina to do with my hair to make it look the way it does, and I'm so glad I can just trust her to work her magic . She has an edge in that way. Went to Christina for the first time last week. I went based on these reviews and was expecting a very precise haircut. I've since washed and blow dried it twice, and it's every bit as precise as you can get. BONUS - she knows faces and how to style hair around it. Actually that should be your entire reason for seeing her - she IS a hair designer!! A real, live one!! This is not false advertising people, it's the REAL DEAL!! I very much recommend Christina - VERY few stylists in OC like her. Or LA for that matter. If you need hair cut correction, or a new updated style, put your little manicured fingers on the phone and make an appt. EXTRA BONUS - I got in to see her in days, not weeks. "Reunited and it feels so good..." Does anybody remember that old song? Hmmm...wait am I dating myself? Well anyway, it plays in my head now every time I look in the mirror and see my new Christina Sanchez 'do =) I used to go to Miss Sanchez back when she was at Shanghai and I'm so happy to be have found her again in a new salon. I have to say she's just glows w/ happiness and is so vibrant in this new spot. Not only do I love her in her new spot, but I also totally dig the salon too. It is so warm and eclectic. I feel like one of the cool kids walking in there. And, I know it's silly, but I even love the women's changing room/bathroom. So spacious and I love that old vanity in there. Now on to my hair. I LOVE my hair! I rarely, and I mean rarely, ever walk out of the salon loving the way it's styled right then. But when I walked out of the salon Thursday night my hair looked, dare I say...fierce! Wow, I felt like a whole new person. Like a person with style! Now, I will say there will be a bit of a learning curve for me in styling it myself, but that's just cuz I suck at doing my own hair. I have been going to Christina since I had a hair fiasco due to terrible extensions that left me half bald in 2009. I live in SF and am unable to get my hair cut by Christina as frequently as I would like. Naturally, I had to find a stylist to give me my usual graduated bob until I could make it back down to OC. I did my Yelp research as usual and found a stylist with excellent reviews for cutting short hair. I ended up with a hair cut that looked okay when heavily styled but was pretty gnarly otherwise. My point is, Christina is extremely talented and it took me a mediocre/bad haircut to remind myself how truly one-of-a-kind she is. For those who need further convincing, here are a few reasons why I keep going back to Christina: 1. She has a knack for cutting stick straight fine Asian hair, a skill that I haven't found in any other stylist. 2. She is very precise in her cuts and always double checks her lines to make sure everything looks good. 3. She is great at teaching clients how to best style their hair without product pushing. 4. She's freakin' cool. If you are still a skeptic, I say give her a try at least once and see how it goes. Had such a great experience with Christina! My hair hadn't been cut in forever partly because there were awkward bangs that I was trying to grow out. I was pretty flexible with what I wanted. She went with a cut that still kept my length and blended my bangs in. Sometimes when hair stylists seem "edgier" you fear that they will do something crazy, but my hair was very much suited to my personality and look. I really appreciated that she also took the time to show me exactly how to blow out my bangs so they won't get crazy. She had lots of good advice in general about the best ways to style my hair. I've already given Christina praise before, but it's been awhile and I just got my hair cut and colored on last week and am so happy with the results that I felt it's time to update the review. If I could give her 6 stars I would. I went in for a trim and for a color transformation (The last time she colored my hair, we went for a fade from blonde on top to a vibrant red/mahogany below, was SO COOL, but wanted a change). We looked through the swatches and Christina customized an amazing palette of copper-based reds that look great with my skin-tone. Because I trust her so much, i basically said "do whatever you think will look good" and that's exactly what I got. Incredibly dimensional color combinations that are 1 of a kind. Another things that Christina always takes the time to do is to educate her clients on how to achieve the same look you leave the salon with. Like many people, I have cow-licks all over my head and since my hair is short, it shows up way more if I don't style it properly. I see reviews where people complain that their fringe is cut incorrectly or a week later, it looks wrong, but the truth is, if they used her "Flat wrapping" technique, I guarantee it will look right. No one has "PERFECT" hair, so sometimes it takes a little added effort on your part to get it looking great, especially if you have fringe (bangs). Christina is always more than happy to help show you how to achieve the look! I always look forward to my appointments with her because I leave feeling excited and recharged with a great new look. I can't say enough good things about her as a person and as a hair stylist. I have very thin Asian hair and I have asked for everything from longer styles to short styles and each time she never fails to impress me. I have honestly never gotten a hair cut I have not liked. She provides you the style you want but always keeps in mind your hair type and texture so you always end up with the best possible style for you personally. She is extremely passionate about her job, she attends trainings and classes to learn and better her craft. After sending her a picture of what I wanted, then bringing it in during my appointment to make sure she knew EXACTLY HOW I WANTED MY HAIR, she proceeded to turn it orange which you can see in my pix. After being actually in shock looking at it when she was done, I asked why it was nothing like the photo and she said and I QUOTE "I didn't think that much contrast would look good"!!!!! I couldn't f***ing believe it. She has since REFUSED to refund my money- I now have opened a dispute against her on my credit card so I can afford to have it fixed. I was a hair nomad for many years till I found, via yelp, Christina Sanchez. At the time she was an assistant at Empire Salon. All the reviews were raving about this person and a free haircut sounded pretty damn good to me. I was right in listening to all the yelpers because I have been going to see Christina for 6 years now. Since I've started to go to her she has always been professional and listens to what you want and does her best to achieve the results. While Christina is amazing she can't work miracles if you have mega jacked up hair and want to have super model hair. Be realistic people! I love going to Christina because she's pretty rad. She always has cool things going on in her life. Most of them involve continuing her hair education. It's awesome to see and hear that she's constantly improving her stills with workshops, lectures, etc. I don't know about you, but I want someone to do my hair that has true passion for her craft. What I really appreciate about Christina and her HIGHLY trained assistants is their passion for education, hair and creativity. Before I booked my first appointment with Christina I did a little research and found not only is she trained by some of the most influential people in the international hair scene like Vidal Sassoon, Sally Rodger and more, but she is a VERY creative stylist. I've been coloring my hair dark black for a long time and suddenly had the urge to go lighter. The first time I went to see Christina, we had a consultation. She explained that black hair is very hard to lift. She gave me options on what I could do. Once I decided what I wanted I went back to see her. I didn't want to bleach all of my hair and she said since that is my concern then flamboyage (she asked if I wanted partial highlights or full, I opted for full) would be good. Christina starts with the flamboyage and then says she wants to do ombre at some of the ends to lighten the hair more. After all that my head barely fit under the dryer. I had to sit under the dryer for about 35 minutes or more I think. Christina and her assistant, Wu would constantly come back and check on the progress. Christina said it usually doesn't take long but colored black hair, takes longer. After the dryer, the foils and mecha strips were taken out and my hair was washed. When I saw the parts of my hair that turned orange I thought 'omg, this is scary'. Christina said don't worry, once we put toner on it, it won't be brassy. After Wu combed out my hair (it was so tangled, felt bad for her), Christina applied the toner and I waited another 15 minutes. When the time was up, Wu washed out my hair and gave me a blow dry. We talk about options and she makes me feel so comfortable that I always leave it up to her. So, she is not at this salon anymore, she works a couple days a month out of her friends salon in Palm Desert but she has a large based clientele in Orange County where she has been working for 14 years. I drove to Salon Rebelle in the city of Orange from the desert after speaking to her about my hair and checking her out she seemed skilled and confident. It was worth the drive. She notified Yelp to change her location but they have not done it. So I submitted a notice to yelp of her location and they never responded? I am new to the area and phoned Christina for an appointment. I have curly hair and am weird about having people touch it because they always cut it too short. Christina understands texture and bonus is she has very curly hair. She not only educated me on environmental factors that could be drying my hair out from the type of water, with research into my type of water I learned we had hard water, we installed a water filter and one that Christina recommend. She offers a in-salon hard water remover treatment which removed my build-up which brought my curls back from being so drabby along with the haircut made a huge difference. I felt like this hair salon service was more than just a haircut, I walked away learning so much about my hair which I have been trying to grow for years, she is also an herbalist and we talked about diet, nutrition and herbs that can support my goal in hair growth and clear skin. read more

I never like to write negative reviews, and this is actually my first one, but I felt like I should make people aware of this service. This is probably the worst experience I have ever had with a hair stylist. I bought Christina's yelp deal ($65 for $125) and I booked in with Christina for my roots to be done and a simple hair trim. Firstly, I was called and told that Chrstina was running behind schedule so I had to have my appointment pushed back (frustrating on a Friday night...but ok). When I went in there was no apology, but again...ok. After having my ''consultation'' with Christina, she told me it would cost $190 and personally, I think that's expensive for partial highlights and cut, but with the Yelp deal it wouldn't be too bad (So I thought) ! After my hair appointment, she added up the total to $230 which was more than the price we had agreed on at the beginning. When I told her I had the yelp deal, she was furious and told me that I should of told her at the beginning, even though I always present deals and vouchers when I go to pay, not to mention that the deal said nothing of this to make me aware. She also said that the Yelp Deal only applied to haircuts, even though it didn't say that at all on the terms and conditions, another new term she made up after I presented the deal. The biggest shocker came when she then argued that Yelp wouldn't allow her to specify her terms and conditions, and thus I had to pay for the full service.. This is extremely misleading to customer's who have already bought the deal. All in all, she started demanding that I pay $190, and I refused to pay that much because I didn't think it was right of her to not honor the deal she posted (and I purchased). At this point I felt like I was being completely scammed which made me feel extremely frustrated. When I did the math, she wanted $190 cash on the day and with the yelp deal of $125, this would mean my trim and partial highlights were worth $315 in her mind, which is just absurd. She then preceded to ring her receptionist and manager, complaining to them in front of me barking at me saying I should have told her about my yelp deal before which I was never told nor was it written on the deal. If this was in the terms of the deal I would have definitely done this. In addition if the deal said "only haircuts" I would not have purchased it (not to mention that a haircut is never $125). To cap it all off, she stood in front of the door telling me I ''had'' to pay $190 or I wasn't going to be able to leave. At this point, I called my husband to come down because I was made to feel so uncomfortable. Christina then called the police on me, which actually made me feel a lot more safer because I felt like I was the one being robbed, and I wanted the police to come down, but obviously they just didn't take it seriously because its such a ridiculous thing to be calling the police on. To be clear, I was willing to pay the remaining balance of what I thought was fair ($190- $125 from the deal = $65). After a LONG and EXHAUSTING 4-5 hours at the salon, I finally agreed to pay her $100 and I wasn't going to budge on that. So basically with $100 and the yelp deal's worth it was $225. It felt to me that she just tries to get as much money out of her client's as she can, rather than build up a client base. She definitely doesn't care about making her customer's happy and I would never ever go back to this salon. Iv purchased yelp deals for Lotus Salon before, and the hair stylist Jessica did a great job and honored the yelp deal and I was extremely happy with her service. Infact, I buy groupon deals (where they specify their terms and conditions) and yelp deals all the time and I have never ever had a problem with it. Don't post yelp deals if you are not going to honor them, and don't change your prices just to get as much money as you can out of a client. I am also going to make yelp aware of the service I received to avoid customers buying deals off untrustworthy businesses! read more
