I got their potato salad which is always so delicious. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and was juicy and tasty. Their sangria was strong and sweet. Their avocado salad with their home dressing is always a great way to start the meal. The service was great and they were very attentive since it was a party of over 10 people. The tragic life of a law student is that you are so burned out that you have to find random pockets of time to take yourself out, or you will lose your shit. So I took myself out here alone to prevent said meltdown. The staff was delightful! They got such a kick out of the solo customer that getting drunk by herself. Very happy with dinner. We went out on a whim and decided to try this place because the reviews where so good and it paid off. Skirt steak was delicious and so was the Porterhouse. I think I enjoyed the porterhouse more just because I like porterhouse so much but there really wasn't one better than the other. The mashed potatoes where flavorful and the huge salad is perfect to go with this heavenly steak. They also give you complimentary bread that's excellent. Crunchy outside and soft and yummy inside. So moving full steam ahead with acquiring as many points as possible with American airlines and my amex gold...La Cabana popped up on one of our recent searches for a new dining experience. Jackson heights has an amazing mix of food carts and restaurants and La Cabana did not disappoint. Previous reviews has this restaurant charging a little more than usual for an unknown steak house but I still wanted to try it out for myself. The night we walked in may have been a holiday one off with Xmas right around the corner. Their were tables pushed together to accommodate a few larger crowds but still it didn't bother me. The place had this awesome cooked meat scent just hanging in the air. My girl and I....carnivores that we are immediately looked for the host to seat us. After a few awkward minutes they found a table towards the back in between two large groups but all was well. Not knowing what to get we started with the cow tongue that's served cold with a nice lemon zest poured over the top. My girl always one to try the house wine went with her usual and for me a Spanish beer (forgot the name sorry). For entree's we decided to split a meat platter for two. After a short wait our drinks and app arrived. Cow tongue may not be for everyone and I've had it more than once but never with a lemon zest. A very good start to a gluttonous meat overload that we were not prepared for. When the entree showed up I thought they may have had the wrong table. Two flank steaks, two skirt steaks and two ribs all placed in a sizzling metal tray to pretty much go at any way you want. A very tasty chimichurri sauce was served as a compliment to the meat...as well as steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. We ordered our meat medium rare... because seriously any other way and your just lighting your money on fire. Cooked perfectly And so much left over that the next day my girl and I made steak and eggs and we still had steak left over. And all still medium rare. La Cabana is not only a dream come true for carnivores but is also one of the only Argentine restaurants in NYC. Located on a quiet stretch of Northern Blvd away from the bustle of Roosevelt Ave, this Jackson Heights eatery has gained a sturdy reputation as one of the better spots for enjoying a variety of quality meats. The place feels classy, but with a homely, non-pretentious aura. There is only a handful of seating here and the relatively small interior might present a problem with larger parties. Date nights are a given, but small groups are fairly ideal for this comfortable ambiance. In terms of appetizers, the complimentary bread lacks appeal, as does their house salad. I'm not entirely the biggest fan of gaucho style empanadas, but the carne (meat) versions are solid. I realize Italian cuisine is very prevalent in Argentine cuisine, but the Italian dishes (pizzas, pasta, etc) have been disappointing. If anything, I would consider the Stuffed Veal, which contains spinach, carrots, hard boiled eggs, potato salad inside a veal breast for its uniqueness exclusively. Where they fall short for some of their other things, they excel (incredibly) at meats. A good indicator of where a restaurant does well is with their top selling item, which in this case would be their Parrillada (or Mixed Grill). This generous sampling of various meats is their bread and butter so to speak; an assortment of various animal protein all grilled to perfection for everyone to enjoy. There is tira de asado (short rib), chorizo (pork sausage), morcilla (black/blood sausage), muslo de pollo (chicken thigh), entrada (skirt steak), and molleja (sweetbreads). In a group, order the grill for 2. It's absolutely delicious. Drown it all down with their house sangria, which is abundantly stacked with fruits. I would recommend a bottle of wine typically, but this sangria is smooth, potent, and pairs well with most of the food. For special occasions, the staff really do go above and beyond to make the experience a good one. Parking is limited to the street and I would highly recommend reservations in advance. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant since they opened at this location. They were previously located in Roosevelt Ave. We come here about once a month. The food is delicious and the staff are very attentive, friendly and welcoming. We usually get the house salad with avocado, skirt steak, fried cheese and sangria. We shared a chicken empanada, roasted red peppers, the mixed grill beef with a side of Valentino mash potatoes and sautéed broccoli. The appetizers (empanada and roasted red peppers) were nothing special, but the steak....The mixed grill beef (for 2 people) included short ribs, sirloin steaks and and skirt steaks for $55. My favorite was the skirt steaks. It was cooked just right and had good flavor. Adding the chimichurri sauce just made it even better. The sirloin steaks were overcooked and on the dry side. The short ribs were good too, but not that lean. The broccoli was fresh and crisp; it had a slight hint of garlic. The mashed potatoes was very good.
