    A very reasonable spirit menu.

Wow, Wow. , wow!!! It has been too long for my return---only because most of my departures are from JFK instead of LGA. So happy this solely-owned family business is still here! I am still amazed at the reasonable prices for huge quality meats. Then you add the ambiance. Oh yea, you don't get gouged with your drinks either. Finally met the wife---got the dirty: This owner loves his business and his customers. This is what it is about. I had an amazing meal away from home served with love. I let my man select some of the dishes. The scallops, The Filet with creamed spinach. Then he selects an after dinnet drink. Had to have a cappuccino. Worth it!!! You MUST have the french vanilla ice cream. Life is too damn short. I left with a hug. Support this fantastic steak house.

Don't mind paying top dollar for good food, but this is a $25 salad (with grilled chicken)? Not even a crouton and super salty. As for my $19 Shrimp Bisque?? It's lumpy! (And also super salty) - can't even eat this, going to order something else for dinner.

I was greeted by name as we entered the premises; I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised. Does Open Table spy on me via my iPhone? lol! Obviously, we had reservations; they are not psychic, lol! The place is small, I could say, it sorta resembles someone's house (IMO). It's nice. Comfortable. We were seated as soon as we arrived. The staff was very accommodating, the manager (or owner?) was very friendly, our waiter was a bit on the "all business", almost "rush, rush" side and who I'd say was the busboy seemed green. We ordered Porterhouse for 3, Lambchops, Ribeye for 2... Apps: Shrimp and Octopus... Dessert: Tiramisu and Cheese cake. The Ribeye looked splendid, the Porterhouse looked charred and dry and the Lambchops looked a bit underwhelming (again, IMO). I have grown accustomed to seeing porterhouse at steakhouses with butter. This place does not serve it that way. Upon taste... the porterhouse was great! I liked it better than the marvelously looking ribeye. The octopus was very tender and the asparagus went quite well with the meats. The rest of the items ordered were what'd expect them to be.

Great steakhouse. People there are really awesome. Food is great. Steaks are massive and has the classic Lugers look. Not sure if the steaks are aged. I don't believe so because I couldn't taste the rich beefy flavors. But who cares... steaks were still delicious. Sides were delicious. Ribeye for two or the tomahawk bone in was off menu. Don't recall which but I thought the ribeye was by far the most flavorful. Home fries were good but a bit chunky. Fries are crispy. Creamed spinach good. Sautéed spinach I liked better. Didn't realize a steakhouse of this caliber existed in Astoria. Happy it does and worth a visit.

Came for restaurant week, the food was okay nothing spectacular. The staff was nice though!

Long overdue but this restaurant still deserves full points for meeting our expectations. We all went for restaurant week & my friend wanted to celebrate our birthdays so standards were high! Although the menu was simple, it didn't disappoint - the foods came out fresh and flavorful and didn't make us feel bloated afterwards. I would definitely come again!

I took my bf here for his birthday after hearing good things about this place and honestly was a little disappointed. We ordered the porter house for 2, Caesar salad w/bacon, a slice of bacon, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and sautéed mushrooms w/ bordelaise sauce. The steak was good, exactly what you would expect from a steak house. It was the sides that disappointed me. The mashed potatoes....I've had better, it wasn't creamy or seasoned well enough (that's just how I like my mash). The spinach was watery and was not creamy at all, not what I expected. The mushrooms were probably the best side we had that day but it was more sauce than mushroom if anything. The bacon I would also skip, too fatty and salty. Overall, standard steakhouse but the sides were underwhelming. Personally would use this money at a different steakhouse.

    1st time!

This steakhouse was one of the few still operating with patio dining in Astoria. The meal was fine, nothing to blush about. The Prosecco was definitely served in the same glass ( 3 times) I guess they don't swap glasses out when they remove it from your table. I know this because my lipstick was still present on the glass lip when they removed it and when they replaced it The creamed Spinach was yummy as well as the grilled octopus and the service was friendly Would I return? Eh. Only if I'm already in the neighborhood and need outdoor dining . The experience wasn't mind blowing at all

They also were super accommodating as I had called last minute on NYE to see if they had any tables earlier in the day, they were able to schedule me in + accommodate as much they could because I had my baby with me. The servers were top notch, very attentive and hospitable. They took my coat for me, made a spot for my stroller and even assisted on coming in and out the restaurant with the stroller which was wonderful. There were a few other children in the restaurant so it is children friendly but still a quiet, calm environment. The only awkward thing is I had to put my stroller on the other side of the table so essentially I had to hold my baby while I ate instead of having her next to me in the stroller but understandable because I was in the walkthrough area. Arugula salad was a 9/10, it was light and slightly sweet and the cheese complimented the sweetness of the apples perfectly and the pepperiness of the arugula. T-Bone Steak: 8.5/10 it was delicious especially with the steak sauce, the steak had a great char the fat was rendered and crispy only downside was I asked for medium rare and I got more of a medium well but this is typical of most restaurants so I wasn't that disappointed but for a steakhouse you'd think they would be masters at cooking to the desired internal temperature. Scallop entree 8/10: instead of doing a traditional side I just got the scallop entree as my side the waiter was a little confused by that lol but I didn't want to load up on carbs + was craving scallops and the entree scallops sounded better than the appetizer scallop dish. The scallop entree was honestly wonderful, scallops had a Smokey flavor from the bacon, the bacon was perfectly crispy and the asparagus with the sauce paired perfectly. Lastly not pictured was the oysters 9/10 Oysters were Blue Point oysters, they were delicious the platter came with all the accoutrements (cocktail sauce, hot sauce, mignonette including freshly grated horseradish. I personally love a more briny oyster they were a hit for me especially with the horseradish. I personally will have to try the other popular steakhouses in NYC and Brooklyn to compare my meal at Amber to so I can accurately judge where they stand in terms of taste and quality but I enjoyed my meal and time at Amber and everything I ordered was delicious, it was a great way to end the year!

Wolfgang Zwiener left his position as the headwaiter at Peter Luger to found his namesake restaurant in 2004, basing the place (and some say improving) on the famed Brooklyn steakhouse's core principles. For better and for worse, there are similarities and differences between the two steakhouses. I'm going to give you three of each, because I don't have all day: Just Like Luger's: 1. The steak is why you're here. Although, the porterhouse for 13 is too much for 13 people (especially if you also get a few lamb chops, all the sides, and starters...which you should because they're delicious). You'll eat until you might actually vomit, and then you'll still need a doggie bag full of meat that you'll probably give to a random bartender later in the evening because he became your new best friend. 2. It's too expensive. You're going to drop substantially more on this meal than anyone probably should on one evening. But if you like steak, whiskey, red wine, and celebrating in a manly manner, it's a good choice. 3. The service is the right kind of rude, with plenty of good humor to offset it as long as you're not uptight. For example, if you ask for a group photo of your giant party of dudes, you'll get more than a few selfies of your waiter tossed into the mix. Unlike Luger's: 1. It's in Manhattan, instead of Brooklyn. Automatically a downgrade. 2. They take credit cards. Huge upgrade. 3. They will just chop up the onions, tomatoes, shrimp cocktail, and bacon and throw them all in one big salad if you can't be bothered to eat them separately. I like it. Upgrade. Especially since I find the tomatoes and onion to be a waste, generally. The strange thing is that after many visits to both over the last couple decades, Wolfgang's has been more consistent, and honestly, better overall. Nowadays, when I'm getting a bunch of guys together, I usually roll with Wolfgang's.

I'd been to this location years ago and it wasn't particularly memorable, but my client was keen to try it. Unfortunately, the porterhouse we ordered was cooked very unevenly and we weren't impressed at all. The mashed potatoes were tasty, though. The service was also slow and disconnected. One staff said they'd bring the dessert menu, but then, a while later, our server brought our check before we even had a chance to look at dessert options. The noise level was quite high and it wasn't the most refined experience. Considering the price of over $100 per person, I would recommend other steakhouses in the city.
