My husband isn't a fan of bagels, sandwiches or even breakfast in general. The Bagel Shack, much to the joy of my East-Coast influenced stomach, has converted him. Bagels are light, chewy and fantastic - of course they're fresh. Staff is sweet and energetic. And you can be in and out fairly quickly unlike another Irvine bagel place that I will not name, but doesn't have as delicious as offering. Definitely has become my only go to bagel place from now on. I recommend the lox, wedge and lowers. Depending on your choice of sandwich and taste, I might recommend asking for easy on the lemon pepper though! There's a special for a free drip coffee or soda with any sandwich purchase which I take advantage of and it's pretty good coffee! read more

Fine bagel shack for hungry patrons. The names of the bagels suggest it originated from San Clemente, migrating through OC. Nothing really is made fresh in store though, everything is toasted with the order and microwaved or sliced/smeared by a couple of young'uns behind the counter. The eggs are not scrambled but flat and previously cooked. But in the jalapeño and cheese bagel it added a lot more flare and panache to an otherwise uneventful filling. The one major thing that is unignorable was utterly how warm it was in the shack. It's middle of August at high noon, measuring 100° outside and as soon as you as walk in the doors, you are greeted by an ever unchanging warmth. And if you're like me hungry and unwilling to wait for home to eat, it's going to be a sweaty meal even before the second bite. Both doors were open and no air was flowing through any of the 4 tables and counter. Slightly less so with the tables outside. Also.. why do they ask if it's for here or to go if the food comes out in to go containers regardless of what you say? I don't know but it is so. At least the bagel was properly toasted and warmed. The bagel was outstanding, naturally; Chewy on the outside and soft inside. The breakfast sandwich, alas, was not. The Lowers, scrambled egg, bacon and cheddar cheese, was an underwhelming experience. The egg was not scrambled but a premade white circle with just enough yellow to make it egg-like. Unfortunately, it had no taste, except like something that had been refrigerated waaaay too long. Blech! The bacon and cheddar cheese were fine but there were so little of each, it hardly made it worth one's while. We were truly disappointed. If Bagel Shack is going to make hot breakfast sandwiches, they ought to choose a higher quality egg product to go with the delicious bagels. read more

The bagels here are tasty! The insides are light and fluffy and outsides flavorful. I took off a star because the outside of the bagel is just baked (instead of being boiled first so it has the slightly shiny exterior with the good bite when you bite into it). Since most of the time I eat bagels whole like an apple, I'm a bagel purist and I prefer the traditional boil/bake bagels. So yeah minus one star for that. I also like how they offer a wide variety of flavors - some new and fun and others classics that aren't always found in other shops like the Salt bagel. Their bagel sandwiches (like smoked salmon lox) are very fresh and tasty as well. Service is good and moves relatively fast here. One of the worst customer service experiences I've had, The girl at the front that was the cashier was very rude and unprofessional cause after she said my order was still being worked on and after awhile i had been waiting she had left the order on the counter without calling it out and without sealing the bag which one of the other employees did for her once i made mention of and she had a carefree look on her face even when i made mention of it, also i noticed she treats every customer differently cause with some customers she greets them and smiles while with others she doesn't, she doesn't belong in the customer service industry. I absolutely love bagel shack and the new location in Irvine! The bagels have always been fresh and very tasty. All orders are made fresh to order which is incredible! The only thing I would change is to maybe bring out parts of the order while waiting on the longer to prepare items. What a hidden gem! If you love bagels, you gotta try this place out. Plus, you gotta meet Chad. He is a kind soul, literally said hi to everyone and called your order by name. Wow. The bagels are super tasty, soft, pliable, yet perfectly bagel-dense. I got a garlic bagel toasted with cream cheese and couldn't believe how good it was! I also ordered 4 bagels to go, and when I got my to-go bag, it was hot on the bottom! The plain bagel must have just come out of the oven, so it was extra fresh, hot, and soft! I could have cried happy tears, being the bagel (and bread) lover that I am! These bagels also have a lot of character and personality because no single bagel shape looks exactly the same which adds to the charm and serendipity. They are all unique yet all very delicious in their own right! I can taste the homemade love in each bite! (If you want bagels that look exactly the same and want consistency in the hole size (?!), you just need to buy the preservative-filled factory made ones that are stuffed in a plastic bag from the store). The Bagel Shack is a great little spot when you're craving a legit bagel in Irvine. The bagels have a nice chew on the inside while maintaining a little crisp on the outside. They're tasty on their own or serve as a great base for sandwiches and spreads. Prices are pretty reasonable too...a bagel on its own is around $2.50, around $5 with various spreads, and specialty bagel sandwiches land around $10 depending on the type. I'd say it's very comparable to East Coast Bagel (another popular bagel spot in Irvine) even though the lines don't seem to be as long here, and it definitely earns a spot in the breakfast rotation. When I get tired of eating in the workplace cafeteria, I normally would pick up breakfast from Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, or McDonald's on the way into work. One morning, I noticed that this place had recently opened and stopped in to give them a try. The folks that I've interacted with in the morning have all been nice and friendly. I've come in on a couple of mornings, having tried mostly their hot breakfast bagel sandwiches. They have really good bagels, but that should be table stakes when you're named the bagel shack. I got the bagel egg cheese bacon sandwich and it was really good. The egg was cooked over medium and bacon was nice and crispy. The offerings outside of bagels is lacking. It would be good to have a larger variety of drinks and non bagel items.
