I remember when Chubbies first opened(!) A Santa Barbara mainstay for many, many years, it's a small, old-school no-nonsense burger joint with great quality food and a small dine-in area. Menu options are simple and straight forward, single and double cheeseburgers, fries, shakes and sodas. Ordering online is fast and easy. Food is made to order and has always been hot and fresh at pickup. I'll take our local Habit or Chubbies any day over the absurd lines at In-N-Out. I also think both have more flavor than In-N-Out. Chubbies is a fried patty vs. Habit's char-broil, but I find they are comparable in terms of overall enjoyment and freshness. Chubbies fries are skinny but taste much fresher and crispier than McDonalds. Shakes are certified "best since Fosters Freeze" by my son. I'd have to say that this is a great burger place to go to! It's not crazy expensive and it's really good! The only complaint I'd have is that the shake was too small. We got a burger and a chicken burger which were both delicious! I'm usually the only one that likes a chicken sandwich, but my family said that they thought it was really good too! I liked how salty the fries were and they went great with the burger and shake. You can order online which is great since when we got there, there was a big party that ordered a lot and ate in the parking lot next to Chubbies. I liked how there was a lot of meat and cheese in the burgers we got because I always want more meat and less bread when it comes to eating something this unhealthy. I went there yesterday 8/14 shortly after they opened at 11. A worker was cleaning the windows when I entered. I stood at the counter patiently. I could hear the workers talking in the back and said "hello" and got no reply. I went outside and asked the woman cleaning the windows if there was anyone at the counter. She said "yes" and continued cleaning and a leisurely pace with an indifferent attitude. She eventually finished cleaning, walked to the kitchen, and another woman attended to me. Burgers reminded me of In-N-Out, except In-N-Out has better buns, and doesn't shred the lettuce. Fries were okay and you have to eat them fast before they go cold. The fries didn't look like skinny fries so I decided to try this place out. Well...I was extremely disappointed with the fries...they are exactly McDonald's fries!!!!! Someone mentioned in their review that the burger is pretty much like in-n-out and it's true. If I had to choose in-n-out versus this place I WOULD have chose this place if the fries were thicker. Fries were piping hot, but didn't seem cooked enough...sounds like it's a common request to ask for them to be crispier. Ranch (although very good) costs 55 cents, and is in a tiny cup, and was only half filled...when they ask if you want 'just' 1...guess that was a hint to ask for more. Service seemed kind of meh, none of the employees seemed like they wanted to be there or showed any sort of emotions. There are a few tables outside to eat at (no indoor dining for now because of the pandemic), but the price you pay for what you get is unbeatable.
