I want to Chubbies for the fist time based on their Yelp review and being tired of paying through the nose for another good but expensive hamburger chain. My daughter and I both had cheeseburgers and fries. The burgers were fresh and pretty good but of average size and an obvious meat patty which wasn't hand formed. The condiments were good but we had to pull off the pickles. We had french fries which were good but not outstanding. We did get enough. The counter lady wasn't rude but didn't try to be nice either. My biggest opinion that I took away was it was really expensive for what we got. It was over 17 bucks for two cheeseburgers two fries and a root beer. read more

If you blink you'll miss it. Small place but clean. There's outside seating in the front of the establishment. Limited parking in the back. Basic menu of hamburgers, veggie, chicken sandwiches and thin fries. Shakes are available also. I like the place but the customer service could be better. Chubbie Burger is a nostalgic treat. They have definitely been around since my childhood. Once upon a time they had a downtown location, along with the current location on De La Vina. They are pretty yummy. On certain days, I order my burger with grilled and raw onions for fun! Yesterday, I ordered my fries "light," and they came out perfect. Burgers come with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. The Chubbie Burger comes with double meat and cheese. Try the Chubbie Combo if you're super hungry. This was a long day at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum and we wanted to get a bite to eat at a local eatery. We went to the normal source to locate a place close to the museum, Yelp. Yes, Chubbies came up along with several other places of interest. And Chubbies got the nod. Less than 10 minutes away from the museum. We were pleased with our choice. We ordered the hamburger combos and paid extra to have shakes instead having sodas. The hamburgers were excellent, cooked perfectly along with grilled onions and all the normal additions. The french fries were fresh from the deep frier, hot and tasty. And ,lastly, the shake. It was the best! We ordered the strawberry shake. This was made with fresh strawberries. What a treat! We will definitely come back to Chubbies the next time we are in Santa Barbara. And we do travel through the Santa Barbara area a couple times a month. See you soon! read more

Not one to give low stars. Purely writing this so management knows. Food was good. Came tonight(Friday) at about 7:30. I ordered the double veggie burger and my husband ordered a triple cheeseburger. My husband realized it wasn't a triple, it was only a double. He brought it back in so they could fix the problem. The young woman working the register was helpful and started pulling a patty out to put on the grill but then the cook came out and said I just turned the grill off so I can't make another patty. In comparison, Chubbie's certainly pales. That said, one should never judge a book by its cover. Past the stark fluorescent lighting and shack-like appearance sits a simple but effective menu. There are only a few options one can choose from, and I believe that it gives this place a sense of integrity. Due to the greasy nature of the menu items, I don't eat here frequently. When I do come, though, I typically opt for the Chubbie combo which is essentially a double cheeseburger with fries and a drink. The food is always fresh and tasty, juicy burger and crisp fries. My friend and I decided to walk to the neighborhood sushi place for lunch on Saturday afternoon only to find it closed. We kept walking and walking and decided to check out Chubbies. It is essentially what I expected. The fries taste similar to what McDonald's fries once tasted like, back in the day. The strawberry shake tasted like dreyer's brand ice cream (not necessarily a bad thing, I enjoyed it since it reminded me of growing up eating those little ice cream cups with the wooden paddle-spoons). The chubby burger tastes like something you can get at a diner or honestly like in-n-out without the sauce and with a different type of patty. The experience was good; fast service and a quick, cheap fast food option. I want to return to try the chicken club next! They feature a stripped down menu focusing on doing great burgers, fries and shakes. Nothing more. Open kitchen layout so you can see everything prepared before you. Burgers taste as close as home cooked as I've ever encountered from fast food. Especially impressed with how fresh lettuce, tomatoes and pickles are. Generous portion of fries, and just the way I enjoy them, though maybe over-salted to others. Strawberry shake had real bits of strawberry and like the fries, it comes in a generous portion. I went a few times on my vacation stay and it wasn't a fluke. They got my burger right every time. Straight delish. read more

This is frustrating for me to send in an updated review because the food is good but the customer service is so awful that it might not be worth coming much anymore. I've had 2 back to back terrible experiences with ordering ahead of time. I placed my order 30 minutes in advance online. I got there, not a single person in the place and no food cooking and my order wasn't ready, not even started. Then a rush of people came in and I watched people who ordered 45min after me get their food before me. I waited another 20min at the restaurant before my food was ready. 65min to get a single combo meal. Then 2 weeks later I ordered 30min ahead again. I showed up when my order was supposed to be ready and no orders were on the counter ready so I sat and waited for 15min. Once I saw multiple people come in, order, and get their food before me (even though I had ordered 45min prior). I walked to the counter and asked if they had my online order. The staff didn't respond to me, walked to an area and picked up a bag with my burger in it that's been sitting for almost 20min. Fries not cooked. Drink not ready. They continue to process 3 more ordered ahead of mine that came in and ordered after me. 25min after my order was supposed to be ready (so essentially waited 55min for a single combo order) they had it packed on the counter ready to go and still said nothing to me! I walked up to get it and asked "am I supposed to be telling you when I arrive when I place an online order?" and the staff was extremely rude in response. As if I was supposed to know this already. Which makes no sense because they call out your order number when it's ready and when you order online it gives you a number! I've sent so many people here to eat over the years and I'm done doing that. Sad and frustrating to be treated like that. There was NO ONE in line when I showed up on time for my order. I stood right in front. They could have easily asked me if I was waiting for an order to avoid having someone who planned ahead of time wait 5min shy of an hour to get a burger. They looked at me many times but said nothing. Not even bare minimum customer service here. read more
