Have been to Monterey Park and Little Tokyo locations but this was our first time here. I like this location a lot more than the other two locations. There are more selections of everything and self-serve bars for a lot of the food, desserts and beverages, although it did seem to get crowded /chaotic going between the self serve stations and your table. Being a Monday night, there was virtually no wait. This was a pleasant surprise after reading reviews of two hour wait times. Must just be the weekends. Btw park by Target, or the Target side of the Owensmouth garage. We got the silver menu ($49 for members.) The tabletop iPad you order from was more elaborate than at other locations. Easier to navigate. Our server Anthony was super friendly and helpful. The food: Miso wagyu chuck eye: thin, flavorful, hard to cook/sticks to grill. Full blood thick cut wagyu short rib: like standard steak, on the leaner side. Wagyu brisket: thin but not too thin, sauce make it slightly more flavorful than other cuts. I think this was my favorite. Wagyu skirt steak: thick cutlet, comes with dipping sauce, tasty but a little chewy. Scallion pan fried dumplings: meh. Salmon hand roll is spicy/ has spicy mayo, be careful. The yellowtail nigiri as good as any sushi bar. Cheese corn better here than other locations; more corn and less cheese. Cheesy sweet potato good, but maybe too cheesy. Overall I think the silver menu won't leave you deprived but sometime I'll spurge on the gold menu. The diamond menu doesn't seem worth it unless you'll want 2 premium cuts pp versus the one premium cut pp from the gold menu. Looking forward to going back. read more

Very nice atmosphere. I went with my parents for my mom's birthday because she loves barbecue and our server Joseph was very accommodating and fantastic. We came here as a group of six and had one of the most disappointing customer service experiences we've had in a long time. We arrived 30 minutes before opening and waited patiently, but multiple groups who showed up after us were seated first. We checked in with the host to make sure we were on the list, and nothing changed -- still getting passed over with no explanation. We eventually asked to speak with a manager, hoping someone would address what was clearly a mistake, but instead we were completely brushed off. No apology, no attempt at service recovery, nothing. When we were finally seated, they put us at a table clearly meant for four people, which made the whole experience even more uncomfortable. We've always enjoyed coming here--it's one of our favorite spots, and the food and service have consistently been great. That's why this experience was so disappointing. Our bill before tip was $150 (my wife happened to take a photo of it), and we intended to leave a standard 20% tip. Unfortunately, I no longer have the final receipt (I must've threw it away), but when the charge posted to my credit card, the total came out to $199. That means the tip was increased to about 32%, which is not what we authorized. I want to be fair--mistakes can happen--but this is a pretty big difference and definitely concerning. It took away from what's usually a great experience for us. I'd recommend double-checking your receipt and final charge if you dine here. From appetizers, meats, fresh sushis, sides, desserts, and fruits, there's something for everyone. We opted for the diamond tier, and omg it was a feast! Zero stars. Our dining experience tonight was extremely disappointing. From the beginning of our meal until the very end, our server repeatedly harassed my husband for his ID to verify his membership, despite both of us being active members. We showed our memberships through the app, which has always been accepted during our many previous visits. What made the situation even more frustrating was that the server singled out my husband and continued to demand his ID multiple times throughout the evening. We pay with our phones and do not typically carry our driver's licenses when dining out. We have never been asked for IDs before, and the constant questioning made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The service was intrusive, unprofessional, and completely overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable dinner. Saw on social media that chubby cattle in westfield topanga has finally opened. I ran and of course, chubby cattle did not disappoint. I drive far for chubby cattle, and I'm so glad this spot has opened close by. It was their soft opening this week but everything was pretty spot on. They have their self served: drink station - (soda, milk teas, slushees), rice station (including curry if you want), dumpling station, veggie / fruit station, sauce station, sides and desserts. Our server Naomi was so nice and helpful in explaining what kind of cuts the meat were and how we should pair the fatty cuts with veggies to balance it out. Of course we tried all of the wagyu we can try through the Gold Tier Menu. Ambiance was very lively (love the music), and hip. Every server there were nice enough to greet you or help you with what you need. I had a membership so the price of our bill was discounted a bit. I would highly recommend this place. I was really excited for Chubby Cattle to be so close to home but sadly my family did not enjoy our experience. I understand why a restaurant would sit children all in the same section to spare other diners the noise, but in my family's case our five year old son does not get loud or get up from the table at all. The whole restaurant is already loud and crowded everywhere. In my opinion there's no need to sit kids all in one section. The 4-5 kids at the next table were absolutely obnoxious and I honestly don't like being lumped in with that just because I have a child too. The meat was delicious, no complaints at all. Sauce bar was good as well but there wasn't anything special. And the ponzu was not ponzu. It was very dark and thick just like a heavy soy sauce. No citrus flavor to it at all. The desserts were soggy and not very flavorful. The rice comes out of a machine which is a little off putting. There were no rice bowls near the machine and when I asked for bowls I was asked to wait two minutes yet nobody came out in two minutes so my family skipped rice altogether. We got the gold tier but throughout the whole speech the waitress had to give about different tiers and how to order, she never mentioned that the premium meats were only one order per person for the whole experience and you cannot choose the same for each person. So if all you want is ONE of those premium meats, that's it for the whole table and there's only four small pieces in an order. Did not enjoy the upselling of the membership. It was mentioned twice and nobody wants to go to dinner to be sold anything. It cheapened the experience. It's supposed to be "Japanese yakiniku" but there wasn't anything very Japanese about Chubby Cattle besides the meat grilling. And it's an electric grill, not charcoal. The hot dishes that come from the kitchen pretty much never made it to our table so we had to ask the server to cancel them as we were coming up on our 1.5 hour limit at the table. This spot would be fun I guess for a friends night out but definitely not great for a nice family dinner. There's no bar or any alcohol and we had to ask for everything including napkins and extra utensils. Cups are paper to-go cups. Just not what I'd like to see for the price we paid. read more

Service was on point today as they were definitely trying to impress for the first day. Tyler was our service and he was great, extremely personable and attentive to us. We went with the gold tier which is honestly pricey but a great deal for the quality and amount of AYCE wagyu meats you can get. What made me decide to try this place over going to competitor is the outstanding reviews from such a short time being opened..While the wait was long, I can definitely say that it's worth it. Also it's a brand new opening so a wait is expected. Everyone I met was so (and genuinely) nice. I honestly felt like the entire experience was premium from beginning to end. I met my sever Tyler and he was just wonderful. He was so kind and when I asked him for recs, he was excited to take over and put in his suggestions. He went above and beyond and helped me cook my meat, and made sure I was happy with the flavor and quality, and consistently checked on me (and the rest of his patrons). Do yourself a favor and do not forget to order: M8-9 Chuck Eye With Chubby Srirachi, the A5 Wagyu Fois Gras sushi, and the A5 Wagyu Uni Caviar Nigiri. The diamond tier is definitely a premium price but I think worth it considering the experience and quality. While TikTok reviews have mentioned to try the Wagyu curry and minced Wagyu, I wasn't a big fan of either (I'm not judging it because the quality was good. I just know that I have an unpopular opinion and aversion of big onion pieces in my food lol). The Xiao long Bao was nothing to write home about (but as an included side dish, I'm not complaining. We're literally here for the meat). The lobster dumpling was cool. I didn't want to focus too much on the side dishes but I did try the kimchi and while I personally think it needs more spice, I enjoyed the vinegary taste cutting through the melty Wagyu. I honestly was going to leave before trying the desert but I had remembered that they have mille crepe cake slices. I had the chocolate one ..and I honestly regret not trying the vanilla one as well. The chocolate version was at a perfect temperature, the chocolate was so smooth but not overwhelmingly sweet, and I believe it might have been Belgian chocolate (correct me if I'm wrong).
