This restaurant is on the more pricey side. Like a lot of reviewers, I also had high expectations since it was the same franchise from chubby cattle. I ordered the tempura udon and it was very underwhelming for the price. The portions were pretty small, the noodles were soggy and the curry was watered down. The server was really friendly and attentive! She often checked up on us and asked how the food was. I think the tempura udon is not as popular. Overall, I wouldn't come again. read more

Came here with my niece for an early dinner tonight. Had made reservations but it turned out that it was actually not needed as it was not busy at all at the time we arrived. We were seated right away. The wait staff gave us water without us having to request it (which was nice and appreciated). Ordering food via tablet was easy. We ordered and shared the Chicken Katsu Kare (5/5) and the Chubby Curry Wagyu Steak Rice (5/5). The accompanying curry and veggies for each dish was yummy. Realized that I forgot to take pics of the food after we had already started eating. Meant to take photos before we dug into our food. LOL Although it is a bit pricey, I think it is nice as a treat. I had been wanting to try this place since it opened but did not want to come here just by myself. Enjoyed our food and took the leftovers home. Liked the fact that there is convenient free parking in the back, as well as parking spots in the front. Recommend this place if you like Japanese curry. They also have hand rolls and other items which I may try at future visits with family and/or friends. read more

Great spot for authentic Japanese curry--close enough to having it in Japan. Their Wagyu steaks are also perfectly cooked, be it on a bed of salad, in a dumpling, or a rice bowl. The service was also fast and friendly, and they were able to accommodate us considering we came in a big group of ten. Wes was very attentive and made sure we had everything we ordered. This is one of the Chubby membership high end restaurants located in Covina. Being local I thought should give it a try. Everything on menu is very popular. I ordered Wagyu beef curry but not impressed . It's not cheap either. Didn't taste the tenderness of Wagyu beef and curry is on light side. Yuzu beer tastes like whiskey sour without the sweetness. Heavy citrus flavor overwhelms beer hops and malt. Gosh, that's a high end $10 price tag.... Interior is beautifully decorated and service is attentive. read more

Me and my so went here for dine LA. We got the $35 special which came with a choice of appetizer, main, and dessert. The portions were reasonable and I was pretty satisfied. I enjoyed everything I had. The restaurant has plenty of parking as well. The waiter was kind and was attentive to us when we needed something. There was plenty of seating inside too. I had to wait nearly AN HOUR for ONE plate of chicken katsu...... :( and it wasn't even worth the price! Taste was alright. So sad because I wanted this to be a good experience. The food was really no good, curry is water down the consistency was off for being Japanese curry. The tofu was in big chunks, no flavor got into tofu when it's the easiest ingredient to do so. I tired almost all the appetizers but sadly to say none stood out besides the shishito peppers. Long wait to be seated, you could put yourself on wait list on Yelp so that was nice and convenient. Staff were nice, they came to check on us. Your order everything on an iPad, your fire the meal to the kitchen yourself. Booth seating, they have upstairs also but didn't go up since we were seated on first level. The staff needs to clean better, dishes were just dump and crumbs were all over the entrance of the restroom as the dish carts were there. Really wanted to like it but it fell short. read more

Best Japanese curry I've ever had! (And I've been to Japan lol) My boyfriend ordered the chicken katsu curry and I got the vegetarian curry and both were delicious! I was surprised by how spicy it was, especially since I usually go for the hottest option and don't find most things spicy. I do wish they gave more rice because of this haha. I came during my lunch break and was impressed with how quickly the food came out. The staff were super friendly, and I liked that you can order right from the tablet, which makes the whole process fast and convenient. The menu offers a great variety of curry dishes, catering to different spice levels. Whether you're someone who likes a mild, creamy curry or you prefer something with a serious kick, there's something for everyone. Located in old town Covina. Parking can be a bear depending on day/time you go. Nice Japanese styled restaurant. They have a downstairs and an upstairs. Nice atmosphere and cozy. We sat upstairs and it was freezing. Luckily they turned down the AC but it took a few minutes before we could warm up. Service was good. Know that you do all of your ordering through a tablet. Straightforward and easy to use. Tip: hot tea is not in the tablet, but they have it - let the server know. Hot tea is complimentary. The tea it self had a very strong herbal type flavor. It was nice and hot but not my favorite when it came to taste. We got several dishes (see pics). All were good, but on the pricy end - in my opinion. One concern was that it took a while for our dishes to come out, and the order they came out was a bit sporadically. It seemed like they made their dishes in batches, so if several tables ordered the same dish but at different times, they would all come out together. So even if we order before other table, we didn't get most of our dishes before other tables. All tables would get the same dish (if that's what they ordered) at the same time. So there were some dishes we had to wait to show up, even though other parties got all their food despite ordering after us. Overall, this place has a nice environment and the service itself is good - just the timing of the dishes was sporadic. Food is good but on the higher side. read more

Parking is available in the back, but I was able to park in the front during off-peak hours. The restaurant is two stories. It wasn't busy when I got there so I found it odd to be seated upstairs. Made it difficult to get help from the staff when needed. My favorite dish was the wagyu. It was tender and delicious. You must order the wagyu. Although it is a curry place, I thought the curry was okay. The fries were bomb. It's good to order a whole bunch of things and share. Super clean place. read more

What a hidden gem. This place has such a variety of food from sushi, curry, duck to shaved ice. The duck special was only available on Friday and Saturday. We had a party of 8 for a birthday and our server, Jose was amazing in making sure we were well taken care of! There was an item not listed on the tablet for our table, but Jose was able to manually add it for us when we requested. Along with other adjustments with our orders. The worst service and possibly the food ever received. Overpriced, poor service, and terrible experience. We stopped by here on a Friday night and 1. We waited a lot longer than the waitlist stated when there were empty tables available that just needed cleaning. 2. Once seated, our table and our water cups were dirty. When we politely asked the waitor to replace it, he responded he was busy and was gonna be back. It took us 10 mins+ to get new water. I will say though, the poor guy was doing everything by himself including taking orders, delivering food and drinks, and cleaning. Was he washing his hands in between? Questionable. 3. Our order took more than 40 mins since ordering to arrive as we were told they were "making more rice" what curry place doesn't have rice readily available? 4. Portions were ok. Food was terrible. Its very picturesque. So typical of overhyped restaurants. Flavor wise, it's probably the worst Japanese food I've ever had. I think they legit forgot to add curry cubes or powder because it tasted like nothing. Will NEVER be back. Do NOT recommend unless you just like to blow money or haven't had japanese food before. read more

Tried Chubby Curry for the first time. Started with the cold tofu, which was super smooth and refreshing. The salmon hand roll was fresh and packed with flavor, definitely a solid appetizer choice. Then came the main star: the wagyu steak bowl. That beef was insanely tender and cooked just right. I added maitake mushrooms, a crab cream croquette, and charred broccoli. The mushrooms were rich and earthy, the croquette was crispy and creamy, and the broccoli had that perfect smoky char. Gave one star less bc there's a sign outside that said scan here for 15 % off for first responders... but they will qx you on what your occupation is & ask for badge. As I tell them my occupation that qualifies me legally as a healthcare first responder they told me that they will have to check w their mngr and honor it this time making me think they might not honor it next time so isn't that false advertising? & didn't make me feel good about asking about the discount. Our first time and was so excited as I love curry! Regardless of this visit, I still love curry!! We ordered 3 appetizers 1 entree and 1 soda. Well, 1 appetizer and entree came out first, half way done, the other 2 appetizers came out and almost done we finally got our soda! Love this place! This is my new go to place in Covina for handrolls. My fave is their spicy tuna--it's served in a cute little holder and has some crunchy bits or either onion or garlic I'm not sure but it makes all the difference in texture and flavor! Seating and ordering is always easy. They have iPads at each table to make ordering a breeze. My absolute go to especially when I have just enough time for a quick lunch break. Honorable mention: their salmon hand rolls are my second favorite, and if I'm feeling a little hungrier than usual their curry udon with tempura shrimp is so comforting and filling highly recommend. read more

Chubby Curry has a new location that just opened in downtown Covina, Ca. If you like Japanese curry this is the place for you. I recommend their waygu burger, the beef is well done and paired well with the curry sauce. Another good food option would be their carpaccio, also their waffle fries are a winner too. Came on a Saturday for dinner. About an hour wait. House Fries - Well seasoned with a good crispy exterior. The curry aoli is interesting--not sure if it really compliments the fries, but still good. Wagyu Burger - I opted to add cheese to this. Meat was cooked nicely--it was soft and tender and the cheese was melted to perfection. I think the flavors overall could be stronger. This is my favorite item I tried here. Chubby Curry Wagyu Steak - As expected, the wagyu is nicely prepared, tender, and tastes great. However, the curry should be the star of the show, yet it isn't. It is a bit more on the watery side and needs more flavor. I wish this dish came with the red pickled veggie. Wagyu Steak Don with Egg - This is essentially the same thing as the Chubby Curry Wagyu Steak just without the curry, but with the red pickled veggie. Overall, okay. Great service, very friendly and efficient. Items are on the pricey side. read more

My partner found this place via social media, and we happened to be in the area so we decided to drop by. The place has plenty of space for customers to sit and enjoy a hot meal. Cute decor. Food was tasty as heck! I tried the chicken katsu kare and it did not disappoint! The quality of the chicken is always something I can taste and see. There were zero NOPE pieces in this chicken katsu. Nice, tender white breast, coated evenly. It was delicious and it paired so nicely with the curry. The curry was exactly what I ordered. Medium spice. There's nothing that bums me out more than a spice level that doesn't live up to it's designation. Medium was Medium! It wasn't barely there or over the top spicy. It was just right. Thank you, Chubby Curry. Overall, I had a great time and enjoyed the meal. If we're in the area again, definitely sitting in again. The lack of 5 stars is because I expected the wagyu dumplings to have just a tad more flavor, but they were good. I might order them again. I came in around opening and it was pretty empty. The staff were friendly and the ambiance was beautiful. We were able to see the chef in action while we waited for our food. My friend had a nut allergy and the waitress made sure to double check with the kitchen. The salmon hand roll was AMAZING. It was so fresh and the seasoning on the rice was just perfect. 10/10 would eat it again The wagyu curry was delicious but I will say that if you have a poor spice tolerance i wouldn't recommend getting the mild or any higher. you're better off just getting it with no spice. Amazing food! You can taste the authenticity in the curry, like it's homemade. I got the Wagyu steak curry and that was the best thing on the menu. Service was really good too! Came for a birthday occasion on a Sunday evening, but the food was mediocre and definitely overpriced. The restaurant does have a pretty cool decor and casual ambiance. What really bothered me was the service: the staff has been generally civil, but none of them looked like they wanted to be there at all, let alone welcoming. All of them have the expressions of being incredibly bored or mildly annoyed, almost like they can't wait to get out of the place. One waiter seemed pretty interested in flirting with another waitress, but his attitude towards me as a customer turned back to being uninterested right away. It's probably unfair to expect a 5-star service from this sort of establishment, but a certain level of authentic hospitality was missing from my point of view that night. Came here for a quick dinner! It's located in downtown Covina! The interior is super cute, sleek, and clean. We sat at the bar and you order on a little ipad. I ordered the wagyu steak rice bowl and my boyfriend ordered the pork tonkotsu curry. To be honest. I was kind of disappointed when I got my order. It just looks ... sad lol. The wagyu steak rice bowl definitely doesn't look like it's pictures. It looks a little sloppily thrown together and it's missing a few of its garnishes and it barely has any sauce on it. I normally wouldn't whine about something like this but for the price I guess I just expected more. It tasted great. It's a simple bowl. The egg and the butter combined really makes it super smooth and everything just melts in your mouth. It's a nice experience to try at least once, but I don't think it's worth the price point, especially if this is what their presentation looks like normally. The curry was okay! I don't think it was my favorite Japanese curry recipe ever but it was tasty and the heat had a nice flavor. The pork tonkotsu was phenomenal, however! It was incredibly thick, juicy, and flavorful. The tonkotsu was the star of the show today, that is forsure! I think I'll pass on returning here. The price point seems a little too high for what you get. read more

Had great expectations for Chubby Curry and they did not disappoint! We came on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait line, side street parking was easily available and our food came out in a timely manner. We got the Wagyu Chubby Curry Steak, Gyudon, Pork Katsu Curry and the Kids udon. Japanese curry was my favorite dish to eat growing up and their wagyu curry was the closest to what I had back at home. Shoutout to Jose for serving us! read more

I got a crab roll to go, wagu rice bowl, wagu burger. The burger was okay. Everything is over priced for what I got. The rice was for sure undercooked so paying $25 for undercooked rice is wild. Probably won't go back. The beef in the rice bowl was very bland too. read more

I recently visited The Chubby Curry, which opened in the former location of Bishamon--a Japanese restaurant I absolutely loved and deeply miss. I came here with a group for a colleague's birthday, and while there were some positives, my overall experience was underwhelming. First, the good: the staff was incredibly accommodating and gave us a private room upstairs for our celebration, which was a nice touch. The ambiance was pleasant, and everything looked clean and well-maintained. Our server was very kind and attentive, going out of their way to try and improve our experience. Now, the not-so-good: the food just wasn't for me. I ordered the Katsu Curry, which was around $25, and added sides like broccoli, mushrooms, fries, dumplings, and more. While the presentation was nice, nothing really stood out flavor-wise. For the price, I was expecting a lot more in terms of quality and taste. I also requested the hottest spice level for my curry, but it was disappointingly mild. To their credit, the server brought me a sauce from the back that added some much-needed heat, but even with that, the dish didn't live up to my expectations. While I think curry lovers might still enjoy this place, I found it overpriced and the food mediocre overall. A Fantastic New Curry Spot by Chubby Group in Covina! Chubby Group has done it again, adding another standout spot to their lineup of restaurants. We had the pleasure of attending the soft opening tonight, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. Though the restaurant is cozy, there's actually additional seating on the second floor, which is a nice surprise. They also offer a sushi bar area where you can watch the chef in action, adding a unique experience for sushi fans. We tried several popular dishes, and each one impressed us. The Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl was a personal favorite, packed with rich flavors and perfectly cooked meat. A close second was their curry udon - incredibly comforting and flavorful. And the Chicken Katsu Kare was a pleasant surprise - the thick chicken breast was impressively juicy and tender, something that's often hard to achieve with katsu. After seating us they showed us how to order from a tablet. The food is described along with a picture. You pick your items and send it to the kitchen and the food comes out a lot faster than most restaurants. I had Chubby Curry wagyu beef plate with tri-tip. The slow-cooked mild curry beef just melted in your mouth so tender and came with rice and a soft egg. My wife and I shared a house salad, slaw with tomatoes, radish and cucumber. Tonight, we dined here with our daughter, which was such a special full-circle moment because we hosted our private baby shower at Ari's back in April 2026. They comfortably accommodated about 60 of our friends and family for a three-hour private restaurant buyout. It was the perfect amount of time to mingle, eat, and play games. They were incredibly accommodating, even allowing our balloon artist to arrive two hours early to set up our decor, along with my best friend who set-up all the decor on the tables. A huge thank you to Calvin, the owner, who helped us curate the perfect menu and made the planning process super easy. Many of our guests were trying Ari's for the first time and loved it so much that they've since returned! Our favorites are the Calamari, Crispy Pork Belly, Tom Kha Kai, Shrimp Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Panang Beef, Thai Tea, and Mango with Sticky Rice. We order these again and again!
