Ducks is located in the same small plaza as Escape Duck (an escape room business and do not believe they are related to this restaurant). I have been wanting to try Ducks for a few years now but never got a chance to try them until last Friday. Since we were in the area, we decided to make a to go order in person. We came in a few minutes before 7 pm and were greeted by an employee behind the counter (actually right as we were able to come in, a nice employee who was outside in front of the entrance opened the door for us). We told her that we wanted to make a to go order so she gave us menus to look over, in which we ended up getting: Ebi Don, $17.95 prior to tax- I decided to get a rice meal and opted for the shrimp tempura meal. This meal came with 3 long pieces of shrimp tempura, served over a bed of rice that has a lightly sweetened soy sauce drizzled over the rice. I really liked this dish and thought it was delicious. I shared one piece of shrimp and rice with my mom and my husband. They also both really liked the food. Veggie Yaki Udon, $14.50 prior to tax- My husband decided to order this dish because he wanted a noodle dish. Please note that this dish is a dry style noodle dish and not a soup udon dish. I thought this noodle dish was tasty and I liked that there were plenty of vegetables in the dish. The sauce used was tasty. My mom also had some and she liked it and so did my husband. ----------------------------------- (Total= $35.78 after tax) Service was friendly and wait time was not too bad, rather reasonable. I ended up using the restroom while I waited and was surprised to see a cute duck soap dispenser in the bathroom (but being that ducks are everywhere, maybe I should not have been surprised). I did enjoy the food and would consider coming back again to try the other entrees.

Beef Don and Karaage Yaki Udon

My yakiudon was too saucy. The udon was wet and since there was a puddle of sauce, which explained why the kaarage was not crispy-- batter was sauced up. For a stir-fry noodle dish, I expect it to be dry. The kaarage was overly salty. I had to drink a lot of water and I definitely needed that rice from the rice bowl. The beef don on the other hand, was delish. They didn't use the typical thinly sliced beef, they used chunkier beef, like chuck roast or something like that. I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but I did enjoy the meatier dish! This dish is what I am more used to, it was a bowl of comfort. Decor is cute, with lots of duck decor! Service was great.

What a delicious lunch! Friend and I had never been and have been wanting to try this place, so we finally made it to lunch. The place definitely reminds me of smaller mom and pop shops in the South Bay. We had just had curry, so skipped the lunch special combos and went with the cold noodle and rice, with an extra kaarage. We also opted for the upgrade to so a noodles. Food was delicious; nothing fancy, just good cooking and good ingredients. The chicken was hella crispy and juicy, the noodles just the right texture, and my mini katsudon was so yum. Friend had the mini tempura rice bowl and that was also tasty. Can't wait to go back, and bring some of my own duckies for the restaurant.

I've been coming here since high school and the quality has stayed the same. Everything here is delicious. The staff is so super friendly and welcoming. If you're looking for a good, local hidden gem for Japanese curry ... look no further!

I've heard so much about Ducks Restaurant being one of the best Japanese spots in the SGV, so I'm glad we finally made it here! We actually ended up here by accident after losing our patience waiting for a table at the red 99 Bistro Grill down the street, I'm so happy we did. Even though it was our first time, it totally lived up to its "famous" reputation. The food is incredible and feels so authentic. We tried the " curry chicken katsu" and the "cold udon noodles". The curry has such a deep, great flavor, and the katsu was perfectly crispy. The udon was the real star, though. It's super chewy and had that perfect texture that reminded us exactly of the meals we've had in Japan. Service was great. The people here are very friendly and welcoming. If you're looking for a legit Japanese comfort food spot in San Gabriel, this is definitely it!

Glad I finally got around to trying Ducks. The service was great, staff was attentive and turn around was swift. I'll give it a 5 but I think a 4.5 would be the most honest rating Food: The fried fish cake was my least favorite dish, it was underwhelming and the fish cake itself was small, I didn't finish it and I wouldn't order it again 1/5. The soba on the other hand was delicous and flavorful, the serving was generous and filling 5/5. My friend liked the curry and gave it a 4/5. Cute duckie decor and plenty of parking. Definitely worth checking out.

One of my favorite spots in the area for home-style Japanese food. A true San Gabriel Valley staple, Duck's stands apart from the usual ramen and sushi scene, offering a more rustic, comforting take on Japanese cuisine that feels like a mom-and-pop gem. For this combo, definitely choose the cold soba. The noodles have a nutty flavor and satisfying bite that pair beautifully with the light, vinegar-balanced dipping broth. The chicken curry is warm, cozy, and gently spiced -- the perfect contrast to the chilled soba. Thoughtful, balanced, and quietly excellent.

I don't think there's a place I love as much as Ducks. If we're in the area and we're hungry with no specific place in mind, Ducks is our choice. Spicy Miso Spaghetti - I wanted to try something different on their menu, but I don't think one is for me. The flavor is really strong and my husband liked it, but it just wasn't my choice. The taste is very similar to Vietnamese curry. I actually really liked the noodles, they were super chewy. Lunch Special with Curry Rice and Cold Soba - The curry felt so homey while the cold soba felt very refreshing. I was nervous at first because it's so much carbs and not much meat in it, but we actually managed to clean everything. The soba noodles were very light and had a good dipping sauce to add some light flavor.

We love this place, all items we've ever tried has great flavor & crispy textures! The curry is so tasty! I got the medium hot & it has a really nice kick to it. The only thing is that I noticed the cutlet doesn't have much flavoring without the curry, but it's tender & great texture

Katsudon (chicken) and Pork Katsu Curry

Ducks has been my go-to place in the SGV to satisfy my katsu curry cravings. This place gives off cozy vibes which makes you feel at home and welcomed. There's ample amount of parking in the plaza it's at as well. Right when I entered, I was immediately greeted and seated. There isn't too much seating inside, but there was surprisingly no wait on a Friday night. I love how flexible they are with their orders since we were able to substitute the meat in their katsudon for chicken instead of pork. Their katsudon is well seasoned, and the rice was cooked perfectly. I got their pork katsu curry (medium spice). The panko on the katsu was very crispy and pork wasn't dry at all. They put the curry on the side which I loved so I can put as much curry on the dish as I wanted. I think next time I'll get a lower spice level since I'm still a little weak when it comes to spice, but overall the food was delicious! I'm always down to come back to experience this amazing comfort food.

    Cold Soba Mini Katsudon
    Hannah B.

I come here looking forward to eating their Katsudon. Their Katsudon here is one of the best I've had in the SGV. It's flavorful, sweet and mildly crispy. I also highly recommend trying their hot udon. The soup in their hot udon is light and full of umami flavor. Their cold soba is also really good! Also, they don't actually serve duck here lol. Overall, great place for Japanese food, and I always return here for their Katsudon. The place is also really cute and silly with rubber ducks decorated throughout their restaurant.

People who love this restaurant give them miniature ducks!

Today, my cousin and I tried the tonkatsu here. Of all the Japanese themed restaurants I have traversed, this tonkatsu is a hit. I can only describe this dish in the form of haiku, entitled... "Savory, Sunday". Soft, tender pork melts Teeth on vacation today Dreaming of flavor I've never had such a succulent, delicate tonkatsu. Most places you go to, it is a bit of a workout. Not at Ducks. Leave them a duck!

Pork Cutlet Curry Rice (substitute the rice with spaghetti)
    Joey N.

Ducks is known for their curry and spaghetti. So I ordered their curry and spaghetti. I love matcha. The thought curry and spaghetti sounded strange at first, but I realized it's no different than a curry udon bowl. To my surprised, I enjoyed the dish far more than what I had anticipated. Anyways, Ducks has amazing service and the ambiance sells the experience very well. The inside of the restaurant features different rubber ducks, hence the name, and a diner-like feel. If you are looking for authentic Japanese curry and cold soba noodles I would recommend coming to Ducks. I love matcha.

For appetizers we ordered the Takoyaki, chicken karage and our main dishes Deluxe Tsukemen x3. The Break down: Atmosphere: 4/5 They greet you as you walk in, which I sets the vibe. You're welcomed into a cozy apace that has some decorative elements even to the music choice. Reminds me of our trip to japan, which I MISS SO MUCH! The Food Takoyaki: $8.95. 4/5 Stars. - Comes in 5pcs with sauce and bonito flakes. I liked how the outside was a bit crunchy and inside was fluffy! Karage: $8.95. 5/5 Stars - Comes in 5pcs. The sauce was tangy sweet kind of like teriyaki sauce. It was crispy but still so juicy and soft. HANDS DOWN GET THIS! Loved it so much I could have a whole bowl Tsukemen: $22.45. 5/5Stars - If you aren't familiar with this, the broth is separate from the noodles. Its a different way of experiencing noodles. The broth is thick, creamy and flavor profile is on point. Inside of the broth there is mushrooms and pcs of pork. The noodles are cooked perfectly and also comes with pcs of nori, soft boiled jammy eggs and 4 pcs of thick chashu. Portion size lets just say they are generous and we all can EAT ^^, Kakigori (MATCHA) $8/$14. 5/5 Stars - Definite MUST! Its made with Japanese shaved ice, a very creamy soft cream matcha sauce and matcha powder! I cant tell you how good this dessert is. The wife is obsessed and one if the main reasons why we found this spot in the first place. Please try! Service: - Super friendly staff! They are quick to get our order and serve our meal. I asked for more limes for my noodles 2x and both times they were quick. Made us feel very welcomed and checked in on us on a regular, which also reminded us of the service Japan showed us once upon a time. Overall: We love this place and we keep coming back with new people to share this type of noodle experience. Check them out im sure you will enjoy it. Lets just say we drove an hour to eat this. You def will not be disappointed :)

I can't speak for them, but I will say, if you order the tsukemen and find that you want more dipping broth, that will be an extra charge. Order a regular bowl of ramen if you do not plan to dip the brothless noodles into the broth for each bite. BF and I both tried the spicy tuna bowl ($7.95), chashu bowl ($8.95), and tonkotsu ramen ($15.95). The bowls are a little smaller than the ramen bowls and are a great option if you want a light meal without feeling super full. The tonkotsu ramen had a slightly rich broth that was flavorful and a decent portion of noodles. We opted not to order the ramen with the egg since we were also trying the rice bowls. The three items were more than enough for the two of us and a good variety of food. Parking here is horrible at the street level, so head downstairs for the two levels of underground parking.

The first thing we noticed when walking in was TBaar, a boba tea shop. The ramen restaurant is located right next door inside the same space. What surprised me was that their menu includes Taiwanese-style gua bao and popcorn chicken! It feels like an Asian fusion concept created with the American market in mind. This is currently their only location in California, with another location in Las Vegas. Most of their other locations are on the East Coast and in Illinois. The interior is definitely unique, with large lanterns, archways, honeycomb-style seating, individual dining areas, and lots of decorative details throughout the space. Luckily, we arrived before 6 PM and got seated right away. Not long after we sat down, a crowd started coming in and there was already a line forming. After looking through the menu for a while, we decided to order: #1 Tokyo Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen (Black Garlic) $17.99 (They mentioned this one has sold over 500,000 bowls nationwide.) My husband ordered this one and tried all the broths. He thought this had the best flavor overall. #2 Braised Pork Belly Ramen $18.99 (This was one of their featured menu items in 2024.) This was my choice. The noodles were generous, and the pork belly was so dark in color that it almost looked like beef. We actually had to double-check that it was pork! #3 Mega Ramen (Tempura) $19.99 The garlic flavor was quite strong in this broth. #6 Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen $18.99 (This is one of their most popular choices in New York.) It does have a noticeable level of spice, so if you can only handle a little heat, this one might not be the best choice. Side dishes: Gua Bao (2 pcs) $9.49 Popcorn Chicken (3 orders) $26.97 Pan-fried Dumplings $8.99 Japanese Fries (2 orders) $15.98 Strawberry Banana Smoothie $6 One fun detail: the bottom of each ramen bowl has a message showing either a prize or a "thank you for visiting." Out of our four bowls, one came with a dessert coupon, but it can only be used on a future visit. Overall, the ramen was pretty good and the presentation was fun. The only downside was that my mouth felt quite dry afterward, probably because the broth was on the heavier side. Kyuramen x TBaar - Arcadia 7 Las Tunas Dr Suite B, Arcadia, CA 91007

I like that we can customize the sweetness and ice level. Although my drink was supposed to be 25% sweet, it still felt a bit too sweet to me TBH. Thankfully, I just mixed it with water to dilute it. The rainbow jellies were super soft and flavorful. People who know me know that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ramen. I'm a ramen aficionado. Lol The Tokyo tonkotsu shouyu ramen with white garlic ramen contains their signature pork-broth bowl featuring chashu pork, bamboo shoots, wakame, half a marinated egg, nori, corn, and scallion. The thinly sliced chashu pork was tender and juicy. The soft-boiled egg was marinated in a sweet and salty soy-based sauce. Loved the perfectly jammy yolks and deep umami flavor. The bamboo shoots, wakame, nori, corn, and scallion all enhanced the flavor of this dish. The shining star of this dish was obviously the broth. This dish contains a rich and creamy pork bone broth seasoned with umami-packed soy sauce. The white garlic adds a signature sweet, pungent, and toasty aroma that perfectly cuts through the heavy fat of the broth. The ramen was cooked perfectly al dente. Would definitely order this again. Staff: The staff here are very attentive, friendly, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

The pork, egg, and soup was good but the ramen was okay. First few bites soft chewy and then later it gets soggy quick like instant noodles.

At the end of the meal, don't forget to ask for a small bowl of rice to eat with any leftover sauce at the end. This is a hearty bowl that will give you food coma afterwards. Service here is always pleasant. You order with using the QR code on the table. Dining area is spacious enough for small groups. It gets really packed during lunch and dinner, so I recommend you come early.

I ordered the Deluxe Mazesoba, which comes with chashu and a hard-boiled egg. I really liked the deluxe version because it felt more filling and had a good amount of protein from the minced pork, chashu, and poached egg. The bowl had a lot of flavor, and I ended up finishing the whole thing, so I didn't even get a chance to try the free scoop of rice at the end. The mazesoba was a bit on the salty side, but it wasn't something that bothered me. The seaweed and fish powder added extra depth and helped give the bowl more variety, while the green onions added a nice texture and freshness. I came on a Wednesday night and didn't have to wait at all, which was a plus. Overall, I enjoyed my first mazesoba experience here and could definitely see myself coming back whenever I'm in the area.

I am surprised that this place was half empty…read more I really liked this place. Its a good spot to hangout. 4 LCD screens had news, Miyazaki anime and their chashu torched on the repeat. The food was prepared within timely manner. The tan tan men took slightly longer. The broth was great, not crazily salty but got a kick to it. The chashu wasnt too fat but got a good mixed of marbling. The portion was good. I was full without having side dishes. The waitress was attentive and friendly. Overall, I think this place deserves a 4.5 out of 5.

There's an option to request for less salt in the broth which I really appreciated. It hit the spot without making me feel like I sacrificed my kidney. The texture of the fresh noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth had just the right punch to it without being too oily. The chashu had the right amount of fattiness. My friend got the tonkatsu red and loved it. He's not normally someone that compliments food so I was a bit surprised. We both wiped our bowls clean and left no noodz behind. We also ordered a shareable agedashi tofu which was delicious as well. Service was great. The staff was polite and checked in on us a few times. The space is very modern and well kept. There's a lot of tables so it isn't a problem bringing larger groups here. Parking is very easy since it's in a huge lot. It's been awhile since I've found a ramen spot that thoroughly impressed me. I can't wait to be back to try the rest of the menu items!
