Food was very flavorful and cooked well. Review will be in the photos. Service was great. They even changed the order for my daughter's kids meal to have noodles substituted without any charge. My only complaint would be that I wished they advised us that with the party of 6 or more, that a tip was included already. But that's also our fault that we didn't ask before putting the additional tip. We know for next time. Love the the wooden decor. Made us feel that we were back in Japan.

In the search of a new Friday date-night spot, my husband and I came across chubby curry on Yelp recommendations. We both have never tried Japanese style curry and the pictures looked absolutely delicious. Located in the busy downtown Covina area nightlife is loud and busy, in a good way! If you're looking to park near the restaurant, come with plenty of time as street parking, especially during the night is hard to come across. Although, they do have a parking structure that's just about a block away, which is not much of a walk! It's a very small restaurant with not much seating, but we didn't have to wait much on a Friday night-15 minutes max but they do have a Yelp sign up. If you know you're coming I recommend you do this. We were seated, and I should mention that the hospitality was amazing! My husband and I were well taken care of and all of our questions answered. Whenever we try a new spot that looks as good as this we try to get a little bit of everything. As you see from the pictures, we had lots to try from and I can safely say that I will be back to try a lot more! The food was super juicy, meats were tender, the sushi was delicious...... I left absolutely stuffed! My husband says this is easily one of his new favorite spots :)

After visiting XPOT in Las Vegas, e decided to become a member of the CHUBBY CATTLE GROUP. We were on our way to LA so we searched on YELP for the nearest Chubby Cattle Group restaurant and made sure it had high ratings... CHICKEN KATSU CURRY: 10/10 My expectations were low so I was BLOWN AWAY at how good their CHICKEN KATSU was!! The chicken was so JUICY & TENDER. I usually don't event like eating chicken katsu and I end up eating the curry and rice but, the CHICKEN KATSU WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW... WAGYU GYOZA: 8/10 It was good especially the filling. The texture of the steamed gyoza was really thick. I think I might have like a fried version more... My husband said they have the KATSU breading and the hamburger meat so they can definitely do a katsu burger and curry dish! AKA MENCHI... SERVICE: A+ Our server was such a delight to take to!! He spoke to us as if we've been friends for years!! Made us feel so at home and recommended his favorite dishes to us. We wish him ask the best with his CAREER!!! AMBIANCE: I really felt like I was transported to a cute Japanese cafe and bar. There were wooden booths and a nice demo display of the dishes at the window in the front... We definitely be back in a HURRY for more CHUBBY CURRY!!!!

Doesn't surprise me this is part of the chubby cattle empire because it's DELICIOUS! Had 2 very fresh yellowtail handrolls - they have other ones too - and the wagyu beef bowl. It comes with rice and egg and is a surprisingly big portion. I looooved it, esp the garlic butter which was a nice touch. My friend got the wagyu curry and let me have a bite and it was incredible! A gentle and comforting flavor and generous chunks of beef. Plus rice. Overall, incredible experience & cant wait to return! We didnt wait at all and it had a good amount of parking.

I wanted to like it more. I think the curry is just missing that zing, but overall it is above average. The wagyu is definitely really tender in the curry. It almost melted in your mouth, and was the best part of the meal. I would like if they added more vegetables to the curry. Also got the udon, and it was pretty overall good. They have some deals on weekdays. We might come in during a deal. Just wish the curry had more a zing taste, and it would make this place outstanding. Without that strong taste of curry, this place falls a little short. Service was okay. Good for a date. Has some places to walk around afterwards.

Heard about the chubby chain so thought we'd give this place a try. It was however not satisfactory. If you were expecting Japanese style curry with a deep and rich flavoring, this place is not for you. That's what I was expecting and so was disappointed in my curry. For a party of 4 we order a few dishes to share. We ordered: Tonkatsu Kare: katsu was delicious, good crisp and flavor. Curry lacked flavor and was very light. Curry was thin. Wagyu steak bowl - 10/10 best thing we ordered. Wagyu had very good flavor Wagyu burger - was juicy but lacked a savory flavor Macha bingso - enjoyable and a good size for 4 people. I was happy the matcha flavor had the typical matcha bitterness to it, and did not taste like the sugary fake syrup you get at some restaurants Parking is easy to find and the restaurant seems like it can accommodate quite a few people on the floor above as well. The space is cozy, comfortable and cutely decorated. Probably won't be coming back however, as this style of curry doesn't meet my needs in a curry.

When we first knew that we have a resto within the chubby group near our home, we were so excited! We stop by on a Thursday night at around 8:15-8:20, seated after few minutes. But we waited for soooo long for our foods. We noticed, there's only one attendant and the cook on that busy night. Saw few people outside waiting for their to-go orders. Many times the server will apologize and even mentioned that they ran out of rice. Great thing that the foods served were so delicious as always within the Chubby standards. The server was nice. We told her that we appreciate her trying to do her best that night. We just wish, she had someone to help her. For sure, we saw some customers visibly upset of the waiting. Nevertheless, we will come back.

Chubby Curry is a solid 3/5. If you're coming to a Chubby franchise, you'll have to get some kind of meat to go with your curry. All orders are placed on the tablet. My group ordered the Curry Wagyu Steak Ribeye Rice Plate and the Wagyu Burger to share. This place is definitely boogie. Charging $3 to add cheese to a burger is wild. Service was really good. They gave my friend an ice cream mochi for her birthday. The Wagyu Burger was good but I'd be fine eating at In-n-Out as well. The only thing that saved the curry was the soft steak ribeye. The beef in the curry tasted like meat from a stew. I'm not a huge fan of beef stew, so it made the curry taste mediocre. The Yuzu Oolong isn't a must get. Water is the way to go. Parking is free in the back lot. There's also plenty of street parking.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while now but keep forgetting to. Take that into consideration as things may have changed since I last went (a year ago). I had high expectations for this restaurant as Chubby group made itself a high standard brand for quality food. They don't use short grain sushi rice for their sushi hand rolls, which to me was odd. The salmon itself was fresh, so no complaints there. The eel was also good. Radish for curry being $3 is insane. I can understand $1 maybe, but $3 is robbery. Most curry places I've been to offer this free of charge as most people only take a spoonful of it to complement their curry. Waffle fries were fine, not super crispy, but not soggy. Curry flavor was there. Chicken cutlet curry - this was probably the worst curry I've ever had in my life. It tasted like spicy squash soup with little to no curry flavor..... I knew I had messed up ordering this when I saw the other tables and noticed everyone who ordered this almost all left it behind barely uneaten. To make matters worse, I asked a waitress at the time if this flavor was how it was intended or if somehow I could get more curry flavor in the curry. They offered me soy sauce to put in the curry..... SOY SAUCE?! I think it's insane that the fries had more of a curry taste than this actually 'curry' dish. I would've given this place 0 stars if this was all I had. Absolutely frustrated we spent so much money on this dish to be so grossly disappointed. At least the cutlet was fine. Thankfully the Wagyu curry was solid. This was a standard curry dish and actually tasted like curry. The meat was good, this dish I would have ordered again. Unfortunately because of the chicken curry, I don't think I would ever return again. It was misleading for anyone expecting curry and getting whatever that weird flavor combo was. All in all I'm giving them 2 stars because the Wagyu curry was decent and the fish from the rolls were fresh, but I overall wouldn't recommend from my experience.

Fun Japanese curry shop located in old town Covina. Wagyu and tonkatsu curries plus a wagyu burger and some sushi rolls. Watch your curry being made in the little display kitchen that reminds me of a small curry shop in Japan, part of the chubby cattle restaurant group. Plenty of parking in the backs. Also ice cold beer!

I've been to the Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills and I absolutely loved it. The stone pot hamburg curry on rice was amazing, the beef was super juicy, and the curry was amazing. I saw that Chubby Curry had opened a second branch in Covina, and I knew I eventually had to try it. I finally had to chance to visit with family one weekend. We came here for lunch right when the restaurant opened and thus we were seated fairly quickly. The staff are super nice and answered all our questions. The restaurant is small but cozy. We ended up sharing a wagyu beef burger, a vegetarian curry, and then their winter special which was an oden udon. I loved that the broth on the oden udon was very light and did not have too heavy an MSG taste. The daikon was amazing, and the noodle texture was perfect. I asked that the burger be cooked to a medium level. It came out basically a perfect medium, and the onions and curry were a wonderful accent. The beef was still very juicy and the brioche bun was soft. The veggie curry was amazing also. We loved the grilled broccoli and grilled mushrooms. This Chubby Curry is just as amazing as the one in Beverly Hills. The restaurant was a bit pricey but I would definitely come back.

I am wondering if I went to the same Chubby Curry as everyone else here writing rave reviews? My experience was mediocre, along with the food. Went into the restaurant about 11:00AM, a bit right after opening. We were told we could sit anywhere so we got a booth at the back of the restaurant. The place is small. It did get crowded at the end of our meal. For the main meal, I got the Tonkatsu Kare, which is the pork katsu curry. Also ordered drinks and the Wagyu Dumplings. The wait was on the slow side. Our drinks did not get served to us... waiting at the fountain, staring at us for a good 10 minutes. Only after I asked if we could get our drinks while we wait for the food, did he bring the soda out. Another 5-7 or so minutes came, and the food came out. With all the rave reviews of this place, did I expect too much? The food was mediocre, reminding me exactly like the Japanese Golden Curry you can buy at the store, except this place mixed everything all for you already. I ordered the #3 spicy and wifey ordered the #2 medium. When the food was served to us, they switched the plates and my wife ended up with the spicy version. I did try to verify with them that what was in front of me was the spicy and they assured me it was.. which is weird because the spicier curry is usually the darker in color. Anyway, we really wanted to like this place since we are in the hunt for a good curry restaurant in our area. It seems like our search continues.. :( read more

We stopped in on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. The place has a really nice vibe to it and you can see the chefs preparing the food through the glass. We got the tonkatsu Kare and wagyu burger. Both were super tasty and came out rather quick. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

At 11am on a Wednesday, it wasn't crowded, and we found a parking spot in-front easily. I imagine it is busier during lunch or dinner hours though, and parking is likely more difficult too. We tried their wagyu and chicken curry today. The wagyu was soft and juicy, and the chicken was perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside. I ordered my curry in medium heat and found the spice level perfect (I normally order things in mild at other places). Their portions are good for one person only. A bit pricey, but the flavors and food were delicious. Service was friendly and quick. We didn't try anything else on the menu today, but it's definitely worth trying if you like katsu! read more

TLDR: An upscale Japanese establishment that knows what it's all about. You're asked to spend more, but the ingredients are ideally of higher quality. It's worth a try, but I would recommend finding discounts here and there. Gyu-don: It's definitely one of the better beef bowls that I've had. A creamy beef, mushroom, and onion mixture that pairs well with rice. The soft boiled egg being mixed in the rice bowl gives the bowl an almost risotto feel. I was impressed, as only very few restaurants achieve such a texture. The one less than ideal part of the bowl is the beef itself. In an establishment that markets itself as a place that serves high quality ingredients, it's a shame that the beef here is probably the cheapest cut of meat. $18 per bowl is a steep price for one beef bowl that is weakest on the beef side. It becomes a better deal with Uber Eats' "Buy 1 Get 1" offer. I think that's the only time I'd gladly get this. Otherwise, it's reluctant. Service: We ordered this for pickup and it was ready when I was there to pick it up. Outside of 1 pair of chopsticks in the to-go bag, some more utensils would have been appreciated. Ambiance: I think the photos here give justice to the place and the upscale yet casual feel that they're going for. I didn't spend enough time inside to have an opinion on it. read more

First time dining at this restaurant in the heart of downtown Covina. Good seating areas for party of 4-6 on the main floor. Apparently, there is seating available upstairs as well but didn't have a chance to go up. You place your orders on a tablet. Server comes by to confirm your order and serves you food as they are ready. Based on the four items we ordered my husband and I really enjoyed the wagyu burger. Perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The curry wagyu steak rice plate was fairly a tie. The butter that sits on the wagyu and rice gives it so much flavor in your mouth. Tonkatsu is just average. Blue Crab handroll was okay; the rice and seaweed were too bland. Overall, I would just come back for the wagyu burger. read more

Chubby Curry is located in the heart of Downtown Covina right on citrus ave. With parking, there was a spot I was able to turn right into as I arrived. However, there are also public parking on the side streets available. Despite going right around dinner time, my friends and I were able to grab a table right away. The staff was quick to get us sited, explained the menu, and brought out waters. They delivered our orders quickly and check in frequently. For ordering, they had a small tablet at the table for us to utilize. Our table ordered some waffle fries to share. This came with a curry sauce. The fries were crispy and the sauce wasn't overwhelming, so this was perfect. For myself, I ordered the katsu kare at spicy level. The curry and katsu had great texture. But it wasn't as spicy as I wanted it, so I added a bit of chilis that they had on the side of the table. Overall, we enjoyed our meals and would come back! We love our curry! This place has been on my radar for a while so we finally were able to try it. The place is small.. about 5 tables and a bar. We were a party of 5 and a baby so definitely tight space. Their ordering is through a tablet which is great. They have plenty of options but not too overwhelming. My family and I made sure we tried different things. But we ended up sticking to Wagyu/curry dishes. We had Wagyu curry, takoyaki, fried rice and the burger. From what I know about this place they are known for their Wagyu burger. It's a curry place though, says so in their name! So we made sure we got curry. The verdict... curry was ok. Nothing special. We all know we won't go back for the curry. The fried rice and the burger though.... WOW!!!! Definitely a must try! We all wished we ordered the burger! Juicy... the flavor... omg! So good! And I didn't even add cheese! Damn I regret not ordering it! The fried rice was also very good! With a touch of chili oil.... Mmmmmm.... It's def not a curry place for me. The takoyaki was just ok too. Nothing special. I did see some people order nigiri and rolls.... But I felt weird trying that at a curry place so maybe I should try it next time we get some burgers! This is my first time trying out Chubby Curry, and I've finally had the opportunity to try their Dine LA 2025 menu. It's located in downtown Covina, and my friend suggested and invited me to try their Dine LA menu, so we got there at 8:30 p.m. last night. (They closed at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday). It was a bit difficult to find parking in downtown Covina, but luckily, we both saw a parking space close to the restaurant. We did not need to wait and were seated immediately. The place was quiet and comfortable inside. We saw the $35 Entree for the Chubby Curry x Dine LA menu on the table. It's from July 25 to August 8, Sunday through Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday to Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. You can choose one entree between Tofu Curry Wagyu Steak Rice Place, or Chirashi Jr. My friend and I both picked the Wagyu Steak Rice place. However, we were told that they sold out of the ground wagyu beef. The server told us that they would give us the whole piece of wagyu beef instead, but without minced tofu and the maitake mushroom. We gladly accepted this arrangement because we liked the whole piece more than the ground wagyu beef anyway. This menu also came with Chicken Karaage; however, they were also sold out, so they had to replace something else with the wagyu beef dumpling. We had the Japanese-style wagyu beef curry combined with slow-cooked Masami Ranch Tri Tip Wagyu Steak. The Tri Tip Wagyu Steak was delicious, and they were in medium, flavorful, and tender. The wagyu beef curry was also flavorful. The slow-cooked egg had runny egg yolks and was delicious. The wagyu beef dumplings were okay. We both couldn't taste the differences between the regular beef and the wagyu beef flavor. As for dessert, we wanted to order Yuzu mochi. However, they were sold out as well. The strawberry mochi also tasted great, but we were tempted to try the Yuzu one. Three items were out for our dinner, so I had to minus one star. We paid $45 per person, including tips, and overall it was a satisfying dinner. read more

We dined here at Chubby Curry after a few months and I would like say they are still operating to the great standard as our other visits in the past. The location still has a steady flow of customers and it's seems they have added a few more options on their menu. This recent visit was another great one. Staff here is always hospitable and friendly and the decor is filled with cool figurines around the restaurant. We sat upstairs which is always nice. It's a bit roomier and they have larger tables for groups. This visit we tried some other items. My wife likes the handrolls so those are always solid options. This time we also tried the Toro Sashimi and the Wagyu Burger. Toro Sashimi very fresh and high quality. The Wagyu burger for me was outstanding. It's $18 and $3 extra for cheese, which i think you can go without. Also a house salad is $3 to add on with the burger. The taste and the cook of the burger made it a memorable experience. I added chili oil seasoning to some bites and it elevated the taste even more! Great food overall once again. Chubby Curry is still 5/5 for us. We're lucky it's close to us to come by any time! read more

The curry was missing flavor. It was quite bland. We got 2 chicken curry plates (not enough curry sauce) Wagyu curry plate and a unicorn roll. Our bill was $92.82 The chicken was done well nice crispy light batter. Wagyu was ok. Nothing great. The unicorn roll was pretty fresh and good. Small establishment took about 10 minutes to get seated on a Sunday afternoon. The service was good. Don't think this is a spot I'd return to though. read more

Stopped in for a late weekday lunch after 1pm and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet and relaxed it was--a perfect escape from the usual rush. I was also happy to be able to redeem some membership awards, which made the visit even better. The ingredients are impressively fresh, especially in their sushi selection. But the true star of the show is undoubtedly their curry sauce. It has a sweet, aromatic fragrance and a perfectly balanced thickness that's delicious even with rice alone. The food was delicious. The curry was so good with the wagyu. The steak just fell apart and paired well the with rice and the charred broccoli. The takoyaki was delicious and the salmon sashimi was so good. The oyakodon was ok but the tonkotsu was very good. The shishito peppers were also all right. You order everything on an iPad and it gets sent to the kitchen. Then your meal comes out and you pay afterward. I found that to be user-friendly and simple to use. They also have high chairs for children. The ambiance was nice and casual. read more

Restaurant is a bit small but we were seated quickly. This place is very pricey for what we got. We got the wagyu steak bowl and the wagyu steak curry. Both were almost $30 each ! Maybe because of the wagyu? Which was fine but not sure if I am a fan of it being cold room temp. Unless that is how it is ? The flavors of the wagyu were both a bit different on the dishes. Curry was nothing special, tasted just like the one you would get at the AYCE chubby location. Perk is 15% off for first responders. So bring your badges ! The worst curry I've ever had in my life. I'm not a great cook but even the curry I make at home tastes so much better. I came in Chubby Curry with high expectations due to the Chubby Cattle brand... but the Wagyu curry was just not great. The rice and broccoli florets were so dry. Wagyu was probably not Wagyu as the quality was significantly lacking. Curry sauce was salty without any depth of flavors. This was not worth $23. read more

Went to Chubby Curry on a Sunday evening and had a great experience. The space has an awesome Japanese vibe with all the wood accents, plus the plastic food displays that really add to the atmosphere. The dining room is definitely smaller than the other Chubby concepts, but I actually liked that. It felt cozy and comfortable rather than crowded. Service was excellent. Ordering on the iPad was easy and smooth, and the staff was attentive without hovering. I ordered the Wagyu curry, and it was exactly the kind of comfort food I was craving. The Wagyu slices were rich and flavorful, and the stewed beef in the curry was so tender. The curry sauce was great. It was thick, smooth, and savory. Slightly sweet, very comforting, and packed with umami without being heavy or greasy. Others in my group got the chicken katsu curry, and it looked fantastic. The katsu was super crispy on the outside while staying moist and tender inside. The chicken was well seasoned all the way through, not just in the breading, which made a big difference. Someone else ordered the gyudon, and it had crispy onion bits mixed in. I've never seen that in gyudon before, but the added crunch worked really well and made each bite even more satisfying. So good, can't wait to get it again. read more

Came here on a Monday afternoon for a birthday lunch with my mom. Found this place while looking through yelp, and I liked that it served a variety of food. Service was friendly and quick when we got in here ambience was clean and very cozy. We ordered the Wagyu curry and chirashi bowl. The curry was very hearty and delicious though the garlic chips on the wagyu were very hard. The fish on the chirashi bowl was very fresh and very generous. I love that it came with fresh wasabi. However, the rice was more on the dry side, I think it's the same rice they use in their curry bowls. Overall, had a great lunch here and would recommend for a quick bite. read more

Yet another highly satisfying meal at another one of the many Chubby Group establishments! At this point, my boyfriend and I have eaten at several of their restaurants, and have found our experiences to be pretty consistent in quality across the board, and Chubby Curry was no exception. We came on a Saturday for an early lunch and were seated at a booth right away. Each booth has a tablet on which you can view and order from the digital menu. One minor suggestion I might make to staff is to wipe down the tablets in between parties -- we noticed that it was somewhat greasy when we used it. The restaurant seems to be somewhat smaller than its other locations (the expansiveness of Chubby Cattle immediately comes to mind), but this smaller size seems somewhat advantageous in a way; it seems to lend a quiet, diner-like quality to Chubby Curry that's refreshing compared to the in-your-face glitz and glamor of an establishment like Chubby Cattle Although we didn't order any curry this time around (which seems blasphemous due to curry being the dish for which the restaurant is named), we resolved to order it next time, as the spicy sweetness of the curry aroma permeated the restaurant and was very enticing. We ended up ordering the wagyu steak rice bowl and the chirashi chubby bowl, both of which were picture perfect and highly satisfying. It was apparent that the ingredients were high quality and that they were prepared with care and attention to detail. And the prices definitely aren't bad for the amazing quality -- I've had much worse at a far higher price point. We would definitely encourage giving Chubby Curry a try if you're in the area! read more

They have street parking available. It wasn't packed for me 'cause I went on a Thursday afternoon (I'm not sure if it's harder to find parking during weekends). Once you get seated, scan the QR code on the table to order. I ordered the Tonkatsu Kare and it was really good! The tonkatsu was very crispy and the sauce was delicious. I wish they had given more sauce, but everything was very delish and filling. You can add an egg and other extra items for extra cost. Overall, great food and decently priced. Compared to its flashy Chubby Group counterparts, Chubby Curry sits quite unassumingly on a street in Downtown Covina. The inside, however, is very cool. The restaurant makes impressive use of its narrow space. The ground floor is reminiscent of a diner, featuring counter seating and a row of booths. The upper floor has more tables and a bar. Various anime figures line the shelves and kitschy games lie scattered throughout the countertops. Despite the name "Chubby Curry," the menu is quite expansive. Rice bowls, handrolls, burgers, sashimi, and various katsu dishes are also available. The curry is seasoned well, but what really stands out to me is the Wagyu, featured in both the Wagyu Curry and the Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl. The sliced beef steals the show - the texture is amazing. Personally, I like the Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl more than I like the Wagyu Curry. I was so impressed on my first visit, that I visited two more times within the span of a couple weeks to try other things on the menu. The katsu is very good. It's perfectly crispy, yet moist and juicy. It's also hefty - a very generous portion. I added pork katsu to my Oyakodon, and it ended up being enough food for like two people - which is great! With the katsu, the Oyakodon is $22-$23, depending on what protein you get. Considering how much food you get, I think this price is reasonable. Without the katsu, the Oyakodon is only $14, and is delicious on its own. I also liked the Aonori Waffle Fries. In hindsight, I should've seen it coming, but in the moment, I was really surprised that they came with a curry dipping sauce. I wished that I had gotten them with the Wagyu Burger. The Wagyu Burger was ok, but I've had better. I wouldn't say it was dry, but it wasn't as moist and tender as I was expecting. Maybe a tad overcooked? And without that juiciness, the burger fell a little flat. I wished that I had the fries so I could pair the curry sauce with the burger to make it a little more interesting. I also thought the burger was a bit small. I was still a little peckish after eating it - yet another argument for the fries. The fries should honestly just come with the burger. I thought that the sushi was mediocre at best. The blue crab handroll was just ok - I've had better for less money. The toro sashimi was fine - not fishy, but not necessarily super fresh. I wouldn't get sushi again at Chubby Curry, but its inclusion on the menu didn't make much sense to me in the first place. And of course, I had to try the bar. I liked my cocktail. I got the Heiwa Tsuru-ume Kanjuki Nigori - an umeboshi and peach cocktail. I was expecting it to be salty and sour, but it was surprisingly refreshing and sweet. As far as service, there was one incident where my group ordered chicken and pork katsu. The server brought out our food and was like "uhh I forgot which was pork and which was chicken, sorry." I felt this situation could have been handled better because that kind of negligence could be serious if we had dietary restrictions. It was also annoying for us because we had to figure out which was which on our own. I don't know what the server/food runner's name was, but he had medium-long shaggy hair. Another time, I had really good service. I requested to sit upstairs and the servers complied with my request even though they really didn't have to. I did not feel like my service quality was compromised by sitting upstairs. The servers were still attentive and very nice. Overall, I really liked Chubby Curry. Prices are a bit high, but portions are proportional and the food quality is high for the most part. Service is also generally good. read more

We decided to eat a Chubby Curry after our session at Color Me Mine. It was a Thursday night during dinner time and were seated immediately. We ordered through a tablet the Wagyu Curry, Chicken Katsu curry, Wagyu steak rice bowl and a fresh lemon prune fizz fiesta drink. Also, since I am a member, we got a free round of miso soup for the entire table. For the wagyu curry, the beef was tender and it had a good curry flavor. We got medium so it was a little too spicy for some of us in our group. The chicken katsu curry was ok too. The chicken breast meat actually wasn't dry so that's a plus. The Wagyu steak rice bowl was a downer though. The wagyu beef didn't come out medium rare (barely any pink). It was overcooked or maybe it was sitting there for a long time and they reheated it? Not sure what happened there so we didn't enjoy it as much. The drink menu looked interesting too so I decided on the fresh Lemon prune fizz fiesta. It basically tasted like sprite with lemon. I didn't really like it and definitely not worth the price. Overall, the meal was a bit underwhelming for the price we were paying. The meats didn't melt in my mouth for being wagyu. Service was good. They came to confirmed our order and helped me check my membership and checked in on us. It's located in Downtown Covina so there is street parking and some public parking lots around. The interior was decorated very Japanese style and even had food displays in the window. The place is small though with a few booths and counter space. I did see people going upstairs so maybe they have more sitting area upstairs? That's very Japanese like as well. read more

Meat portion was underwhelming for what you pay for, curry was ok Fries had an interesting curry infused sauce that I think is good to try for sure. I think a good solid normal sauce is better but still decent. Value proposition was disappointing given the brand name unfortunately you could say expectations were higher or maybe it was on point - in the sense that they may not give great portions. $23 and look at the meat! We stopped by for lunch on a Monday to give this place a try. The staff were friendly and the ordering was done thru a tablet. They had several options of curry with rice and unique hand roll menu. We got the wagyu curry and the pork cutlet curry. The curry was very smooth but a little light on the flavor. The wagyu meat was soft and tender. The pork cutlet was thick and crispy. Finally, a Japanese curry spot in the area! The curry was good with generous portions & warmed our souls on a rainy night. I added the charred broccoli on the side for $2 but I wish it was included because it's good! The food also came out very quickly and the service was friendly & attentive. I ordered the medium spice level & it tasted more mild for me. I would try the more spicy option next time. There's limited parking in front since it's downtown Covina but some more parking behind the restaurant. Prices are high but that's life these days :') If you've been lucky to have Curry House before they closed, I'd say Curry House was more casual & offered more options with more sides. read more

I enjoyed the location this chubby curry is in. It's in a cute downtown vibes area and parking was super easy when I came for dinner on a weekday evening. Best of all, the parking was free. I'm giving this place 5 stars strictly for the burger. The burger is a wagyu beef treat! It's thick, meaty, and juicy! Easily one of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. It comes in a delicious and soft bun, and covered in a curry sauce with melted cheese (cheese is an extra $3). The burger is pricey but worth it. The service is quick. You order on an iPad and they get the meal to your table in no time. The ambiance is kinda friendly, but not super friendly. The parking is dependent on the time of day because it's on the main strip of the area where it's located. I highly recommend trying the burger when you're looking for something special. read more

The cream top was thicker than other places I've tried in the area and had good matcha flavor. For the double matcha I went with Pure Matcha which is matcha with water + matcha cream top. The ambiance inside is like a tea shop, cozy, lots of tables without feeling like a restaurant but rather like a place to study. They had calm music playing when I was here. The Air Conditioner was also on and it was very comfortable to sit inside. I'd definitely come back. I think it's good value, the workers are very nice and it's good to support family owned.

I recently visited The Chubby Curry, which opened in the former location of Bishamon--a Japanese restaurant I absolutely loved and deeply miss. I came here with a group for a colleague's birthday, and while there were some positives, my overall experience was underwhelming. First, the good: the staff was incredibly accommodating and gave us a private room upstairs for our celebration, which was a nice touch. The ambiance was pleasant, and everything looked clean and well-maintained. Our server was very kind and attentive, going out of their way to try and improve our experience. Now, the not-so-good: the food just wasn't for me. I ordered the Katsu Curry, which was around $25, and added sides like broccoli, mushrooms, fries, dumplings, and more. While the presentation was nice, nothing really stood out flavor-wise. For the price, I was expecting a lot more in terms of quality and taste. I also requested the hottest spice level for my curry, but it was disappointingly mild. To their credit, the server brought me a sauce from the back that added some much-needed heat, but even with that, the dish didn't live up to my expectations. While I think curry lovers might still enjoy this place, I found it overpriced and the food mediocre overall. A Fantastic New Curry Spot by Chubby Group in Covina! Chubby Group has done it again, adding another standout spot to their lineup of restaurants. We had the pleasure of attending the soft opening tonight, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. Though the restaurant is cozy, there's actually additional seating on the second floor, which is a nice surprise. They also offer a sushi bar area where you can watch the chef in action, adding a unique experience for sushi fans. We tried several popular dishes, and each one impressed us. The Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl was a personal favorite, packed with rich flavors and perfectly cooked meat. A close second was their curry udon - incredibly comforting and flavorful. And the Chicken Katsu Kare was a pleasant surprise - the thick chicken breast was impressively juicy and tender, something that's often hard to achieve with katsu. We're excited to return and explore more of the menu soon. I just put this restaurant on my list yesterday and we decided to go today and we are so glad we did. The staff is super friendly and attentive. After seating us they showed us how to order from a tablet. The food is described along with a picture. You pick your items and send it to the kitchen and the food comes out a lot faster than most restaurants. I had Chubby Curry wagyu beef plate with tri-tip. The slow-cooked mild curry beef just melted in your mouth so tender and came with rice and a soft egg. My wife and I shared a house salad, slaw with tomatoes, radish and cucumber. My wife had the Wagyu steak rice plate. Same slow cooked beef so tender with her choosing spicier curry. This meal was such a delight, all 5's start to finish. read more
