Food was very flavorful and cooked well. Review will be in the photos. Service was great. They even changed the order for my daughter's kids meal to have noodles substituted without any charge. My only complaint would be that I wished they advised us that with the party of 6 or more, that a tip was included already. But that's also our fault that we didn't ask before putting the additional tip. We know for next time. Love the the wooden decor. Made us feel that we were back in Japan.
In the search of a new Friday date-night spot, my husband and I came across chubby curry on Yelp recommendations. We both have never tried Japanese style curry and the pictures looked absolutely delicious. Located in the busy downtown Covina area nightlife is loud and busy, in a good way! If you're looking to park near the restaurant, come with plenty of time as street parking, especially during the night is hard to come across. Although, they do have a parking structure that's just about a block away, which is not much of a walk! It's a very small restaurant with not much seating, but we didn't have to wait much on a Friday night-15 minutes max but they do have a Yelp sign up. If you know you're coming I recommend you do this. We were seated, and I should mention that the hospitality was amazing! My husband and I were well taken care of and all of our questions answered. Whenever we try a new spot that looks as good as this we try to get a little bit of everything. As you see from the pictures, we had lots to try from and I can safely say that I will be back to try a lot more! The food was super juicy, meats were tender, the sushi was delicious...... I left absolutely stuffed! My husband says this is easily one of his new favorite spots :)
After visiting XPOT in Las Vegas, e decided to become a member of the CHUBBY CATTLE GROUP. We were on our way to LA so we searched on YELP for the nearest Chubby Cattle Group restaurant and made sure it had high ratings... CHICKEN KATSU CURRY: 10/10 My expectations were low so I was BLOWN AWAY at how good their CHICKEN KATSU was!! The chicken was so JUICY & TENDER. I usually don't event like eating chicken katsu and I end up eating the curry and rice but, the CHICKEN KATSU WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW... WAGYU GYOZA: 8/10 It was good especially the filling. The texture of the steamed gyoza was really thick. I think I might have like a fried version more... My husband said they have the KATSU breading and the hamburger meat so they can definitely do a katsu burger and curry dish! AKA MENCHI... SERVICE: A+ Our server was such a delight to take to!! He spoke to us as if we've been friends for years!! Made us feel so at home and recommended his favorite dishes to us. We wish him ask the best with his CAREER!!! AMBIANCE: I really felt like I was transported to a cute Japanese cafe and bar. There were wooden booths and a nice demo display of the dishes at the window in the front... We definitely be back in a HURRY for more CHUBBY CURRY!!!!
Doesn't surprise me this is part of the chubby cattle empire because it's DELICIOUS! Had 2 very fresh yellowtail handrolls - they have other ones too - and the wagyu beef bowl. It comes with rice and egg and is a surprisingly big portion. I looooved it, esp the garlic butter which was a nice touch. My friend got the wagyu curry and let me have a bite and it was incredible! A gentle and comforting flavor and generous chunks of beef. Plus rice. Overall, incredible experience & cant wait to return! We didnt wait at all and it had a good amount of parking.
I wanted to like it more. I think the curry is just missing that zing, but overall it is above average. The wagyu is definitely really tender in the curry. It almost melted in your mouth, and was the best part of the meal. I would like if they added more vegetables to the curry. Also got the udon, and it was pretty overall good. They have some deals on weekdays. We might come in during a deal. Just wish the curry had more a zing taste, and it would make this place outstanding. Without that strong taste of curry, this place falls a little short. Service was okay. Good for a date. Has some places to walk around afterwards.
Heard about the chubby chain so thought we'd give this place a try. It was however not satisfactory. If you were expecting Japanese style curry with a deep and rich flavoring, this place is not for you. That's what I was expecting and so was disappointed in my curry. For a party of 4 we order a few dishes to share. We ordered: Tonkatsu Kare: katsu was delicious, good crisp and flavor. Curry lacked flavor and was very light. Curry was thin. Wagyu steak bowl - 10/10 best thing we ordered. Wagyu had very good flavor Wagyu burger - was juicy but lacked a savory flavor Macha bingso - enjoyable and a good size for 4 people. I was happy the matcha flavor had the typical matcha bitterness to it, and did not taste like the sugary fake syrup you get at some restaurants Parking is easy to find and the restaurant seems like it can accommodate quite a few people on the floor above as well. The space is cozy, comfortable and cutely decorated. Probably won't be coming back however, as this style of curry doesn't meet my needs in a curry.
When we first knew that we have a resto within the chubby group near our home, we were so excited! We stop by on a Thursday night at around 8:15-8:20, seated after few minutes. But we waited for soooo long for our foods. We noticed, there's only one attendant and the cook on that busy night. Saw few people outside waiting for their to-go orders. Many times the server will apologize and even mentioned that they ran out of rice. Great thing that the foods served were so delicious as always within the Chubby standards. The server was nice. We told her that we appreciate her trying to do her best that night. We just wish, she had someone to help her. For sure, we saw some customers visibly upset of the waiting. Nevertheless, we will come back.
Chubby Curry is a solid 3/5. If you're coming to a Chubby franchise, you'll have to get some kind of meat to go with your curry. All orders are placed on the tablet. My group ordered the Curry Wagyu Steak Ribeye Rice Plate and the Wagyu Burger to share. This place is definitely boogie. Charging $3 to add cheese to a burger is wild. Service was really good. They gave my friend an ice cream mochi for her birthday. The Wagyu Burger was good but I'd be fine eating at In-n-Out as well. The only thing that saved the curry was the soft steak ribeye. The beef in the curry tasted like meat from a stew. I'm not a huge fan of beef stew, so it made the curry taste mediocre. The Yuzu Oolong isn't a must get. Water is the way to go. Parking is free in the back lot. There's also plenty of street parking.
I've been meaning to review this place for a while now but keep forgetting to. Take that into consideration as things may have changed since I last went (a year ago). I had high expectations for this restaurant as Chubby group made itself a high standard brand for quality food. They don't use short grain sushi rice for their sushi hand rolls, which to me was odd. The salmon itself was fresh, so no complaints there. The eel was also good. Radish for curry being $3 is insane. I can understand $1 maybe, but $3 is robbery. Most curry places I've been to offer this free of charge as most people only take a spoonful of it to complement their curry. Waffle fries were fine, not super crispy, but not soggy. Curry flavor was there. Chicken cutlet curry - this was probably the worst curry I've ever had in my life. It tasted like spicy squash soup with little to no curry flavor..... I knew I had messed up ordering this when I saw the other tables and noticed everyone who ordered this almost all left it behind barely uneaten. To make matters worse, I asked a waitress at the time if this flavor was how it was intended or if somehow I could get more curry flavor in the curry. They offered me soy sauce to put in the curry..... SOY SAUCE?! I think it's insane that the fries had more of a curry taste than this actually 'curry' dish. I would've given this place 0 stars if this was all I had. Absolutely frustrated we spent so much money on this dish to be so grossly disappointed. At least the cutlet was fine. Thankfully the Wagyu curry was solid. This was a standard curry dish and actually tasted like curry. The meat was good, this dish I would have ordered again. Unfortunately because of the chicken curry, I don't think I would ever return again. It was misleading for anyone expecting curry and getting whatever that weird flavor combo was. All in all I'm giving them 2 stars because the Wagyu curry was decent and the fish from the rolls were fresh, but I overall wouldn't recommend from my experience.
Fun Japanese curry shop located in old town Covina. Wagyu and tonkatsu curries plus a wagyu burger and some sushi rolls. Watch your curry being made in the little display kitchen that reminds me of a small curry shop in Japan, part of the chubby cattle restaurant group. Plenty of parking in the backs. Also ice cold beer!
I've been to the Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills and I absolutely loved it. The stone pot hamburg curry on rice was amazing, the beef was super juicy, and the curry was amazing. I saw that Chubby Curry had opened a second branch in Covina, and I knew I eventually had to try it. I finally had to chance to visit with family one weekend. We came here for lunch right when the restaurant opened and thus we were seated fairly quickly. The staff are super nice and answered all our questions. The restaurant is small but cozy. We ended up sharing a wagyu beef burger, a vegetarian curry, and then their winter special which was an oden udon. I loved that the broth on the oden udon was very light and did not have too heavy an MSG taste. The daikon was amazing, and the noodle texture was perfect. I asked that the burger be cooked to a medium level. It came out basically a perfect medium, and the onions and curry were a wonderful accent. The beef was still very juicy and the brioche bun was soft. The veggie curry was amazing also. We loved the grilled broccoli and grilled mushrooms. This Chubby Curry is just as amazing as the one in Beverly Hills. The restaurant was a bit pricey but I would definitely come back.
First time here, and we had a great experience! My wife, son, and I came on a Monday afternoon. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated right away. They give you a tablet to order your food, and you can send it directly to the kitchen as you go. Super convenient and unique. It let us take our time to browse the menu and order at our own pace. We ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry and Wagyu Katsu curry, both were fantastic! The curry was rich, flavorful, and absolutely mouthwatering. The chicken was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of breading. The Wagyu was juicy and tender. We also tried a few hand rolls, Tuna and Yellowtail, and they were excellent as well. Definitely planning to come back. I heard their Wagyu burger is a must-try, so I'll be ordering that next time, along with the waffle fries! read more
Checked this place out on a Thursday evening. Not busy but still bustling. Got the steak wagyu curry deal with appetizers and two drinks. Meant for two people but I ate the whole thing myself. I've known that this is the sister restaurant of Chubby Cattle so I've always been curious to try it out. We came in on a Sunday night. I joined the waitlist online but there was no wait when we arrived and we were seated immediately. There's a touchpad at each table where you can place your orders. Once you send your order to the kitchen someone comes to your table to confirm the items that you got. I ordered the Gyu-Don ($18) and I've also tried the Chicken Katsu Kare ($21). The curry was very good however I wish that they gave more of the curry sauce. I feel like there was only enough for either the rice or the chicken katsu separately but not the whole plate. The chicken katsu itself was good though. It was still tender on the inside but the outside was super crispy and crunchy. I actually really liked the gyu-don, maybe even more than the chicken katsu. It had a ton of the beef flavor to it and you also get some pickled ginger and a poached egg on top. It came out super hot and there was a ton of the meat on top. The bowl was pretty big and I was struggling to finish the whole thing, but I did it. Service was quick and you can use the touchpad to call them over if you need anything. They brought us over some clean plates so that we could share our dishes, and they also made sure that our water cups were filled. It was easy to get the check since there's a button on the touchpad specifically made for that, so we were in and out of the restaurant pretty quickly. Overall my visit was great and I would love to come back to try some more items on their menu. The waffle fries looked good but I'm not sure if I could justify spending $9 on them. read more

Came here for an early dinner, ordered the wagyu rice plate and wagyu steak curry rice. The steak rice had a light but noticeable bbq flavor, a poached egg, Japanese red pickled radish, green onions, and butter. We also added corn on the side and mixed it in! The wagyu was cooked very well and paired together perfectly! Was full, but couldn't stop eating it! The Wagyu steak curry rice was also very delicious and reminds me of a mapo tofu, but with curry flavor! Not overly thick, and has very good aromatics and taste. Soooo yummy! Been looking for a curry place since curry house closed, and this was it! Surprisingly, I was able to make a reservation via Yelp on Mother's Day about 3 hours before dinner time. Amazingggg! Got there and it looked small but there is a second floor of seating area so they got space for sure. There are kids menu and menu for everyone, but we went with tonkatsu curry w/ rice, wagyu curry, and beef don (for the kids). Everything was very flavorful and even with no spicy, there is a hint of the natural curry spices to it. I wouldn't get the wagyu because it was just ok in my opinion. Beef don was bomb, kids loved it and finished the bowl between 2 of them. They gave us chocolate covered strawberry at the end of our meal for Mother's Day and I thought that wa such a sweet gesture! Found this gem through Yelp and the food is as good as it looks! Their katsu is nicely fried to have that crisp crunch, my friends and I loved their curry. It has a slight kick of spice and is so flavorful. We got the tonkatsu katsu and the wagyu katsu, both were good. The wagyu melts in your mouth. Good thing they have the live waitlist you can join on the app. Saves so much time! Parking is pretty accessible here, but located in downtown Covina. I thought the restaurant was pretty small at first, but there's actually an upstairs! The upstairs was actually very spacious, and can even hold a long table for parties. We ordered the classic tonkatsu kare and my bf got the wagyu curry. We ordered the waffle fries and kaarage to share. The waffle fries were definitely very worth it! Great portion size and the crisp and taste was pretty nice. Interesting use of curry dip that they have too, which was pretty good! The kaarage is part of their new menu and I thought it was pretty good too! Although, I do feel like even though it has some nice crunch, the chicken itself is too soft? It's meaty but also not meaty... but overall still pretty decent. Something I wouldn't get again though. Next came the entrees, which the portions are very filling! I actually didn't even finish mines. The spice level to the tonkatsu is pretty mild to hot. It's the type of spice that slowly creeps up on you and your mouth starts burninggg. Really delicious though!! I tried my bf's dish and it's definitely very rich. The wagyu itself is very soft and the other meat (with butter) just tasted so flavorful! This one was reallyyy good. To my surprise when I open the package thank you for this challenging mess please do better Since your apology seems sincere, I'm gonna let you know the greeting was as great as the spillage. Order was placed over phone call promising be ready in 15 minutes, after arriving at counter in 16 minutes waited another 15 minutes til food was ready. Through out the wait no one was ever at the counter to greet or update the situation. When questioned why wasn't ready, no apology but an excuse oh we had a big table upstair. That sounded more of a your problem than mine. Unless I wasn't aware dining order always supersede take out even when I'm on my way as company policy. read more

Located in old town Covina this place is definitely a hidden gem. My daughter has been here twice and it's our first time as a family to eat here for dinner. The chicken and pork katsu kare were tender and had a nice Krispy breading on the outside. The wagyu steak rice bowl was very tasty and nicely seasoned. My son enjoyed his spam musubi. It came with a teriyaki mayo dipping sauce. The service was quick and they came back often to check how everything was going. The shelves near the serving bar was adorned with Japanese anime collectibles and the indoor dining area was beautifully designed and cozy. Everyone loved their dishes. read more

First time and really enjoyed the food. Personally a little pricey for lunch, IMO, but glad I tried it. Some of the portions are pretty large, so you can get away with a side of katsu for lunch if you're not a huge eater for $11-12. Beef curry will run you about $23. I ordered both and had leftovers. Buddy tried a few more dishes so we can try a little bit of everything and probably ended up ordering too much! Haha! Would I go back, for sure. The katsu was the stand out for sure. Crispy and tasty. The portion and price was a plus too. Next time I'll just go with the katsu curry, but had to try the wagyu beef curry my first time there. read more

It was one of these nights that I was craving Japanese food but I was lazy to drive. So, I placed an Uber eat order from Chubby Curry. I was very impressed with packaging. The food came in a thermal bag that had the restaurant's name. We ordered the following; - A little of everything & miso soup 5/5 This order was available only for online order. It came in two separate containers. The seaweed sheet was wrapped in a transparent plastic wrap around each roll. I removed it first, then wrapped it around the roll. It was crispy. We enjoyed the flavorful taste of the various rolls. The miso soup was perfect. - Waffle Fries with Aonori 5/5 Was crispy from outside and soft from inside. The aonori sauce was really good and added unique taste to the fries -Wagyu Dumplings with ponzu sauce It was very flavorful and moist. - Chicken Katsu Kare 5/5 The packaging was amazing. They put each ingredient in a separate container. They write the direction on the container how to mix them. It was heavenly and the amount was generous. - Crab Cream Croquette 5/5 It was crispy from outside, and very creamy and rich from inside. It literally melted in my mouth. The food was outstanding. I've been wanting to try this place for so long and my bf and I were finally in the area so we got to try it. It was quite difficult to find as it's in downtown but we figured it out. There's some parking in the front on the street, but there is also more parking in the back as well. Upon entering, we were really amazed with the decor. It's really pretty and well decorated. Felt like we were in Japan tbh. We were seated right away and were given the iPad to place our order. The gentleman brought us water immediately. My bf got the wagyu curry while I got the chicken katsu curry. Wagyu Curry: the depth of flavor was definitely there. The potatoes and carrots that were in there really elevated it. Some of the meat was a bit tougher than others, but it didn't take away from the overall enjoyment. He got level 3 spicy, which was pretty spicy. Definitely helps clear the sinuses if you need it lol Chicken Katsu Curry: the best katsu I've had, hands down. The chicken was super tender and fried to perfection. It was not dry at all. The side cabbage salad it came with was also so good. I loved the sesame dressing that was used. The potatoes and carrots were also so yummy as it soaked up the curry flavor. My bf and I both loved the portions. It wasn't too little and the rice ratio was really good! I typically always have rice leftover but not enough katsu, but I was actually left with extra katsu at the end! Service was great. I'm a Chubby Club member and a big fan of their flagship location in Rowland Heights. My boyfriend and I went to Chubby Curry expecting the same quality of food as Chubby Cattle, but we were wrong. Chubby Curry met us with poor service and cold curry. We sat for maybe 10 minutes before staff even offered us water which was disappointing. The staff had a cold demeanor... Like the curry. We started with crab croquettes with an excess amount of mayo for the amount of croquettes that came with one order. The curry had great flavor, especially the tofu curry. My complaint is the temperature, I don't think even the first bite was hot. I was so hungry after a long day, it was my mistake to not send it back. The wagyu on the rice was just as disappointing, it was also cold and felt "3D printed" for lack of a better term. I have to give 2 stars for the flavor, but I expected more from this establishment, especially given the price. read more

I've always enjoyed the Chubby Group spots, so I had to check out Chubby Curry when I was in Covina. The restaurant is two stories. We went on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait. The space is decorated with anime touches, which adds to the fun atmosphere. Our group ordered the wagyu curry, chicken katsu, and the Jr. chirashi bowl, along with cocktails and sake. The curry was rich and flavorful, with the wagyu soft and tender. Definitely a winning combo for the price. The chirashi bowl was fresh, generous, and super satisfying. Consistently good service and delicious food. Those fries with the curry dipping sauce were delicious. Handrolls were fantastic - new item tried this visit. Not pictured is the Waygu Burger (w/o cheese). That is by far one of the best tasting burgers I've had in a looong time. Ambiance - Feels like Japan. The decor inside is quite nice. Lanterns, anime figures, colorful sake bottles. Table I sat on wasn't wiped well but I notified them and they very quickly with apologies cleaned it up. Good customer service and both servers we encountered ares very friendly and attentive Parking - behind the building is a medium sized lot with ample parking space and along the street. It gets a little busy on the weekends according to staff but there is always parking. Food - Wagyu dumplings with Ponzu while on the smaller size have excellent taste and the ponzu along with green onions really give them a warm but fresh flavor. Chicken Katsu Kate - the fry breading on the chicken rivals Midoh when it comes to quality, crispness, and not dried out. The curry even non-spicy has a tiny bit of spicy. Medium was crazy hot. I don't care to ask how hot max spicy is lol. Mushroom side - is one large mushroom diced into three pieces and fried. While good I wouldn't recommend this unless you really like it. Didn't try any sushi this time, maybe next time. Service - excellent, servers are fast and very active. Value - a bit on the expensive side vs. portion. But quality is top notch so it's worth it. A good friend shared this spot for the tasty food and today was the day. If you are looking for a great spot to spoil your wife or impress a favorite girlfriend You HAVE got to take them to Chubby Curry. Parking can be a pain but the free public structure is less than a block east or just across Citrus from Chubby. We got lucky and found a parallel parking spot almost in front of the restaurant. We walked in on a Saturday and were met by a very nice young man who advised he would escort us upstairs. Now let me say the restaurant's downstairs dining room was impressive enough. You can watch the grill master as he makes Wagyu burgers through a clear partition. Upstairs was like a classy hidden Gem! Like a 1930s Era speak easy tucked away with a sushi style bar and quaint booths. A clean private bathroom on this floor was helpful. The decor is gorgeous and then the fun starts. Our greeter was our server, He stayed with us like a personal valet. He brought out a tablet to order on and after a quick tutorial we were sending orders to the chef ourselves while he poured ice cold Asahi and waters. Spicy tuna handroll, no rice demanded my favorite food critic, the wife. She later proclaimed this to be an amazing handroll compared to others she has tried elsewhere. Spicy and fresh with a tiny crunch from fried onions. Appetizer Miso soup was wonderfully tasty and hot. I ordered Katsu Curry and asked for medium spice hoping it would be hot enough. Perfectly pressed bowl shaped tender rice with tender pork Katsu and condiments. Our valet brought dinnerware and plates to share our dish, even the chopsticks are made with quality and detail in mind. Nice touch.. The Curry was so tasty and that medium spice did a sneak attack and I was very pleased as my first bite made me crave more heat. As the Curry dish was so large I asked for a To-Go container. Welcoming, attentive, and memorable. Made a reservation and came here today with a large party to celebrate a birthday. They provided a tablet for us to browse the menu and order from, then double checked our orders. Our server Jose was so charming and attentive to our table from refiling drinks to checking in on us and our food. The Oyakadon (chicken Katsu) was crispy, not too greasy and delicious. The Chubby curry waygu steak rice plate was flavorful and the meat was juicy and melted in your mouth. The waygu curry spicy was good but got salty at the end. The waygu here was cooked so deliciously. When it came to serving our friend's birthday cake Jose and Blair were so kind and funny. We were the last party to leave so they changed the music to "happy birthday" and lit our cake for us. As soon as they were about to walk the cake to us the birthday boy decided to use the restroom... the candles were melting and they even offered to replace the candles for us too but in the end we didn't need to and everything went perfectly!! Every street cart, taco shop, upscale restaurant has a best of show. I would easily give a street cart 5 stars if I thought it was the best street food. That is this place. The decor and ambience are all perfect for what this place is, a curry shop. And what a curry shop it is. Let's cut to the meat of the matter, the chicken katsu. A light and crispy outer coating and a perfectly portioned, juicy piece of chicken. Outstanding. The curry coated the Katsu just right and was flavored for kings. This was one of the best curry dishes I had. It was presented as all curry dishes should, with a nice serving of rice, pickled radish and cabbage. (The rice was a little on the dry side for me, but I like my rice kinda sticky). The service was very good. The staff was attentive and checked in on me a couple of times. Overall I was very happy after I left Chubby Curry and would come back again. read more

We ordered take out from here. Here were some items: Wagyu Bowl-meat was tender and subtle flavor that paired nicely with rice and fried garlic. Chicken Katsu Kare-the curry was so flavorful and delicious. It was slightly different from other chain Japanese curry restaurants-more depth. Shishito Peppers-If you want fire, order these. Almost every single one brought the heat. Im excited to go back for dine in. read more
Decided to check this place out for dinner on a weekday. Service was friendly and we were seated right away. They give you a tablet to order on. The inside is clean and they were playing old school edm - which i didn't mind. In terms of the food, we loved both the wagyu and pork katsu curry (got medium spicy but it wasn't spicy at all so next time we will get the spiciest level). The chicken karaage and shishito peppers were both really good too. The spicy tuna hand roll and matcha shaved ice were both ok - not horrible but have had better at other places. Today I had chubby curry for lunch. I don't live around Covina, just got a chance to shop at IKEA and stopped by here. The restaurant has few tables but luckily we had a table when we were there. Outside temperature was 92 degrees, no A/C running by that time. We ordered wagyu curry rice , the curry was watery ,not thick enough. The wagyu wasn't tender enough to be called wagyu. Also, the plate has cracks on it. This dish didn't worth for $28 . I felt a little bit disappointed. This restaurant is not as good as other chubby places I went. read more

It's a Friday night around after 7 and the area is busy with the night market/fair at the park and bars/restaurants full of patrons. We came to the area for an event and afterwards met up with some friends to get something they recommended we try nearby which was Chubby Curry. Not sure if they're connected to Chubby Cattle, but possibly a word play with Wagyu in the menu. Wait time was 25minutes, with such a busy area, there's plenty of stores to look around until you're texted to come back. There's a second floor seating, but given I have a stroller with us we can't go upstairs. There's also seating at the counter but the chairs are higher. We sat in a booth table and the stroller was in the outer side of the table which works out. Ordering food is via a tablet, add to your cart and send ti the kitchen. What caught my attention was the steak and curry, which the example is also displayed outside in the window. We also got the chicken katsu curry which we wavered back and forth with the tonkatsu one. Both curry dishes were ordered as nonspicy (there's 3 levels of spice). There's also udon, rice, and a hamburger dish. We thought about a side of waffle fries but not sure if my son will like the Aonori seasoning so we didn't get it. Our dishes came in one by one, udon dish came is a cute small cast iron skillet which LOOKS small but is filling. The curry steak was huge, larger in comparison of the katsu ones (21-22$), but it's more expensive (28$). Both were good, the steak curry was slightly spicier for some reason but only because my spice tolerance is super low. The steak curry had potato, carrots, and pieces of beef with a soft egg on top of rice covered with slices of steak. The chicken katsu curry was much sweeter and had cabbage and pickled ginger(?) on the rice. Overall, very filling and delicious and I'm glad we came to try it out, our part of the bill was 43$ plus tax (not including tips). There's only one restroom and it's unisex near the kitchen in the back. Very clean and kept well. read more

GENERAL Part of the Chubby Restaurant Group, the ambiance and design is very much inline with the other restaurants meaning it's nice and refined. Service is very friendly and attentive though all the ordering is done through a kiosk. The music is a little too drive by for my tastes. Prices are a little steep especially for a lunch spot but the quality is definitely there. They really should offer proper silverware though. Plastic spoons are not ideal for curry especially katsu. ---- FOOD Wagyu Dumplings - A little small and paired with ponzu. Good but I'll probably skip this next time. Unagi Handroll - Big meaty saucy unagi, perfectly warm, open wrapped in a sheet of nori wrap that retains its crispness. Wonderful idea for texture play Shrimp Tempura Handroll - Same crispy nori wrap. Extra crispy batter to fight the tare sauce. Good but not as good as the unagi Unicorn Roll - The fish and avocado is creamy and fresh. The soy sauce is unique and has a somewhat fruity flavor Chicken Katsu Kare - The curry is great (needs more though)! The sauce is rich with a bit of sweetness and doesn't taste anything like a box mix like some other places. The only warning is that the medium is more of a hot, like it burns much more than the old Curry House chain's hot. The chicken is thick, juicy white meat fried in a crispy panko breading. Perfection. They also give you pickles, a small cabbage salad (wish there was more), and a butt ton of rice. A pretty solid curry place in the Covina area! When I first arrived, the environment had a nice mix of modern and traditional. There were anime figurines around the store which added a cool personal touch. The staff were very efficient and attentive to our table. The actual ordering of food was through a tablet so there was no rush or pressure to decide quickly. We ordered the chubby curry wagyu steak rice plate, the gyu-don, and the cucumber and radish salad. The curry rice plate was overall good. The steak was nice and soft and the curry itself had a nice flavor to it. However, it was a little bit overpriced and the wagyu flavor didn't taste much different from other meat curries I've had. The gyu-don was actually my favorite dish. The beef was soft and extremely flavorful with some nice pickled radish to complement it. The cucumber and radish dish was a little disappointing. It was a very small portion and did not have much flavor to it. Overall, this is a nice place to grab good curry, but a bit overpriced. I may visit again if they come out with any interesting seasonal items in the future. read more

Finally got to try this place! It's located at downtown Covina, and we were able to find parking on the streets across the place. It was easy to order through the iPad on the table and the food came out fairly quick. The yuzu cocktail was refreshing and citrusy. Hand rolls were simple and pretty good, with crispy nori. I tried the Wagyu beef curry which had tender meat along with flavorful curry.. kind of more of the Chinese darker ones than Japanese creamy curries. This curry was a different type than the tonkatsu ones they had too, included beef chucks and potatoes. Overall it was very good and worth the hype! read more
