Food was very flavorful and cooked well. Review will be in the photos. Service was great. They even changed the order for my daughter's kids meal to have noodles substituted without any charge. My only complaint would be that I wished they advised us that with the party of 6 or more, that a tip was included already. But that's also our fault that we didn't ask before putting the additional tip. We know for next time. Love the the wooden decor. Made us feel that we were back in Japan.

In the search of a new Friday date-night spot, my husband and I came across chubby curry on Yelp recommendations. We both have never tried Japanese style curry and the pictures looked absolutely delicious. Located in the busy downtown Covina area nightlife is loud and busy, in a good way! If you're looking to park near the restaurant, come with plenty of time as street parking, especially during the night is hard to come across. Although, they do have a parking structure that's just about a block away, which is not much of a walk! It's a very small restaurant with not much seating, but we didn't have to wait much on a Friday night-15 minutes max but they do have a Yelp sign up. If you know you're coming I recommend you do this. We were seated, and I should mention that the hospitality was amazing! My husband and I were well taken care of and all of our questions answered. Whenever we try a new spot that looks as good as this we try to get a little bit of everything. As you see from the pictures, we had lots to try from and I can safely say that I will be back to try a lot more! The food was super juicy, meats were tender, the sushi was delicious...... I left absolutely stuffed! My husband says this is easily one of his new favorite spots :)

After visiting XPOT in Las Vegas, e decided to become a member of the CHUBBY CATTLE GROUP. We were on our way to LA so we searched on YELP for the nearest Chubby Cattle Group restaurant and made sure it had high ratings... CHICKEN KATSU CURRY: 10/10 My expectations were low so I was BLOWN AWAY at how good their CHICKEN KATSU was!! The chicken was so JUICY & TENDER. I usually don't event like eating chicken katsu and I end up eating the curry and rice but, the CHICKEN KATSU WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW... WAGYU GYOZA: 8/10 It was good especially the filling. The texture of the steamed gyoza was really thick. I think I might have like a fried version more... My husband said they have the KATSU breading and the hamburger meat so they can definitely do a katsu burger and curry dish! AKA MENCHI... SERVICE: A+ Our server was such a delight to take to!! He spoke to us as if we've been friends for years!! Made us feel so at home and recommended his favorite dishes to us. We wish him ask the best with his CAREER!!! AMBIANCE: I really felt like I was transported to a cute Japanese cafe and bar. There were wooden booths and a nice demo display of the dishes at the window in the front... We definitely be back in a HURRY for more CHUBBY CURRY!!!!

Doesn't surprise me this is part of the chubby cattle empire because it's DELICIOUS! Had 2 very fresh yellowtail handrolls - they have other ones too - and the wagyu beef bowl. It comes with rice and egg and is a surprisingly big portion. I looooved it, esp the garlic butter which was a nice touch. My friend got the wagyu curry and let me have a bite and it was incredible! A gentle and comforting flavor and generous chunks of beef. Plus rice. Overall, incredible experience & cant wait to return! We didnt wait at all and it had a good amount of parking.

I wanted to like it more. I think the curry is just missing that zing, but overall it is above average. The wagyu is definitely really tender in the curry. It almost melted in your mouth, and was the best part of the meal. I would like if they added more vegetables to the curry. Also got the udon, and it was pretty overall good. They have some deals on weekdays. We might come in during a deal. Just wish the curry had more a zing taste, and it would make this place outstanding. Without that strong taste of curry, this place falls a little short. Service was okay. Good for a date. Has some places to walk around afterwards.

Heard about the chubby chain so thought we'd give this place a try. It was however not satisfactory. If you were expecting Japanese style curry with a deep and rich flavoring, this place is not for you. That's what I was expecting and so was disappointed in my curry. For a party of 4 we order a few dishes to share. We ordered: Tonkatsu Kare: katsu was delicious, good crisp and flavor. Curry lacked flavor and was very light. Curry was thin. Wagyu steak bowl - 10/10 best thing we ordered. Wagyu had very good flavor Wagyu burger - was juicy but lacked a savory flavor Macha bingso - enjoyable and a good size for 4 people. I was happy the matcha flavor had the typical matcha bitterness to it, and did not taste like the sugary fake syrup you get at some restaurants Parking is easy to find and the restaurant seems like it can accommodate quite a few people on the floor above as well. The space is cozy, comfortable and cutely decorated. Probably won't be coming back however, as this style of curry doesn't meet my needs in a curry.

Chubby Curry is a solid 3/5. If you're coming to a Chubby franchise, you'll have to get some kind of meat to go with your curry. All orders are placed on the tablet. My group ordered the Curry Wagyu Steak Ribeye Rice Plate and the Wagyu Burger to share. This place is definitely boogie. Charging $3 to add cheese to a burger is wild. Service was really good. They gave my friend an ice cream mochi for her birthday. The Wagyu Burger was good but I'd be fine eating at In-n-Out as well. The only thing that saved the curry was the soft steak ribeye. The beef in the curry tasted like meat from a stew. I'm not a huge fan of beef stew, so it made the curry taste mediocre. The Yuzu Oolong isn't a must get. Water is the way to go. Parking is free in the back lot. There's also plenty of street parking.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while now but keep forgetting to. Take that into consideration as things may have changed since I last went (a year ago). I had high expectations for this restaurant as Chubby group made itself a high standard brand for quality food. They don't use short grain sushi rice for their sushi hand rolls, which to me was odd. The salmon itself was fresh, so no complaints there. The eel was also good. Radish for curry being $3 is insane. I can understand $1 maybe, but $3 is robbery. Most curry places I've been to offer this free of charge as most people only take a spoonful of it to complement their curry. Waffle fries were fine, not super crispy, but not soggy. Curry flavor was there. Chicken cutlet curry - this was probably the worst curry I've ever had in my life. It tasted like spicy squash soup with little to no curry flavor..... I knew I had messed up ordering this when I saw the other tables and noticed everyone who ordered this almost all left it behind barely uneaten. To make matters worse, I asked a waitress at the time if this flavor was how it was intended or if somehow I could get more curry flavor in the curry. They offered me soy sauce to put in the curry..... SOY SAUCE?! I think it's insane that the fries had more of a curry taste than this actually 'curry' dish. I would've given this place 0 stars if this was all I had. Absolutely frustrated we spent so much money on this dish to be so grossly disappointed. At least the cutlet was fine. Thankfully the Wagyu curry was solid. This was a standard curry dish and actually tasted like curry. The meat was good, this dish I would have ordered again. Unfortunately because of the chicken curry, I don't think I would ever return again. It was misleading for anyone expecting curry and getting whatever that weird flavor combo was. All in all I'm giving them 2 stars because the Wagyu curry was decent and the fish from the rolls were fresh, but I overall wouldn't recommend from my experience.

When we first knew that we have a resto within the chubby group near our home, we were so excited! We stop by on a Thursday night at around 8:15-8:20, seated after few minutes. But we waited for soooo long for our foods. We noticed, there's only one attendant and the cook on that busy night. Saw few people outside waiting for their to-go orders. Many times the server will apologize and even mentioned that they ran out of rice. Great thing that the foods served were so delicious as always within the Chubby standards. The server was nice. We told her that we appreciate her trying to do her best that night. We just wish, she had someone to help her. For sure, we saw some customers visibly upset of the waiting. Nevertheless, we will come back.

Fun Japanese curry shop located in old town Covina. Wagyu and tonkatsu curries plus a wagyu burger and some sushi rolls. Watch your curry being made in the little display kitchen that reminds me of a small curry shop in Japan, part of the chubby cattle restaurant group. Plenty of parking in the backs. Also ice cold beer!

I've been to the Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills and I absolutely loved it. The stone pot hamburg curry on rice was amazing, the beef was super juicy, and the curry was amazing. I saw that Chubby Curry had opened a second branch in Covina, and I knew I eventually had to try it. I finally had to chance to visit with family one weekend. We came here for lunch right when the restaurant opened and thus we were seated fairly quickly. The staff are super nice and answered all our questions. The restaurant is small but cozy. We ended up sharing a wagyu beef burger, a vegetarian curry, and then their winter special which was an oden udon. I loved that the broth on the oden udon was very light and did not have too heavy an MSG taste. The daikon was amazing, and the noodle texture was perfect. I asked that the burger be cooked to a medium level. It came out basically a perfect medium, and the onions and curry were a wonderful accent. The beef was still very juicy and the brioche bun was soft. The veggie curry was amazing also. We loved the grilled broccoli and grilled mushrooms. This Chubby Curry is just as amazing as the one in Beverly Hills. The restaurant was a bit pricey but I would definitely come back.

Hi. So we decided to stop into Chubby Curry in downtown Covina. What a nice surprise to have in the area. As soon as you walk in the restaurant looks small with booths to the left and a sushi bar to the right, but to my surprise they have a second floor and it worked out for us because we had Jose as our server. He was very attentive and helpful. The menu is quite varied and we went with curry udon and tonkatsu curry. Both were delicious. Keep in mind, the udon with shrimp tempura is in a curry sauce, not soup. The tonkatsu curry comes with a delicious slaw and pickled veggies. Do yourself a favor and mix it with the rice for a delicious contrast to the curry. You should finish off your meal with a nice selection of mochis. So come and enjoy some delicious curry. read more

the wagyu bowl had very tender meat, a nice dollop of butter, and the bbq sauce was just the right amount and not overpowering. the mixture of yolk, butter, rice, wagyu, and the hint bbq sauce came together nicely in one bite. my husband liked his wagyu curry with rice which also had very tender meat. the curry had a lighter than expected taste. i really liked the waffle fries and curry dip but my husband felt like it tasted too similarly to Ore-Ida fries. Hot sauce on the table is yummy. it has a savory kick. service from Esther was great and she is very sweet! food came out promptly and warm. the ambiance is fine and it's nice to see anime decor around. street or structure parking! read more

The food is delicious! The best chicken cutlet -- so moist yet a great crispy breading. The curries are flavorful & the beef is very tender. We have ordered "no spice" even though it does have heat & a nice kick. "Medium" is a decent heat without being overpowering. I wouldn't want spicier than medium because I want to taste the depth of the curry & not overwhelm it. It's comfort food! Like having homemade stew! Service was excellent and the place was nice and clean. Ordering was easy. There's a tablet on your table, so you order yourself and they bring the food to your table. The food wasn't great. My girlfriend and I ordered the pork cutlet curry and agreed that the meat was rather bland and unseasoned. I wanted some extra radish and it cost another $3 for a little bit of condiment. It wasn't worth it, neither for the condiment nor the meal. We will not be returning. read more

The food is overall great. One potential improvement was the temperature of the food. It could be warmer when it arrived. The wagyu steak rice bowl was good. We also ordered a tonkatsu curry. The tonkatsu was well fried. However, there wasn't enough curry sauce for whole plate. There is extra curry sauce available for purchase ($5). We also ordered a side of tempura shrimp, but I don't recommend adding this. The shrimp was small and was oily. The appetizer wagyu dumplings was nice, but not cost effective. The service and sitting environment was nice and relative quiet. There's background music playing. Ordering was done on the iPad. read more

I'm so happy to see a Chubby franchise restaurant in the Covina area. The ambience and lighting inside is cozy, warm, and very sleek. We went all out on our first visit trying most of the menu. The truffle salmon carpaccio tastes amazing as an appetizer. My first bite of the wagyu curry was scrumptious but I have to say my favorite item from tonight was the gyudon. Mix in the slow cooked egg with the beef and every bite becomes a flavorful experience. Will definitely be coming back for more and trying Chubby Curry out during lunchtime! read more

I was there with a group of people on a Friday evening after we watched a show at the laugh factory. We were assisted by the lovely and beautiful Irene who was very welcoming and hospitable despite it being almost closing time. She took us through the ins and outs of the menu since none of us had dined there before. She even provided intel on another location we were curious about called chubby skewer which she said she had worked at before. The food was good. We had the chicken Katsu spicy curry, the wagyu beef over rice, chicken katsu and the wagyu salad. All in all it was a good end to a good evening. Service was excellent and it was just the right atmosphere. It was lively asian pop music mixed with casual dining and delicious Japanese donburi/kare raisu fare. Thanks Irene! read more

This is not your average Japanese curry!!! I must emphasize that I've never been a fan of Japanese curry or Katsu chicken and somehow my server convinced me that it's the best thing on the menu. I'm so glad he suggested that along with other items on the menu but WOW, their curry is homemade with apples & onions & the chicken breast for the Katsu was so juicy & tender. I was so confused I thought I was eating dark meat chicken but apparently their chicken is marinated for 8 hours for that juicy tenderness. Along with curry, we also tried their hand rolls, Wagyu dumplings & waffle fries. ALL are so delicious. To top it off with the friendly and amazing services at this establishment. I can't wait to try the one at the Beverly Hills location. Highly recommend! read more

the food was great.. very heavy so u don't need a lot to get full! the sauce that came with the fries was amazing and the staff was very friendly too! super cute inside as well only thing I would mention is it's very small so make sure u make a reservation or join the waitlist! also we came for the delicious looking burger and got there at about 5:30 and we're told it was already sold out :((( they also didn't have any of the dumplings either which I was most excited about so that was a little disappointing but if it's sold out must mean it's delicious!! will definitely be back to try those next time ! read more

I came with my friends on Friday night after work. The host is amazing. Very kind and lovely. We waited around 20 min. It's a tiny place and they do have upstairs too. Over all it's pretty good. But there are many opportunities to be fixed. The flavor need more. Also the curry was luke warm since we are upstairs. The entree come in different time. They are still new. It's also kinda busy. The chirashi bowl was so fresh and visually stunning! They gave us incredible thick cuts of 4 kinds of fish, scallops, shrimp, as well as roe, and uni (this was my first time trying sea urchin). The chicken katsu was tender and crispy! The curry was a little sweeter than I wanted it to be, but it is still a solid choice. I enjoyed the pickled radish (fukujinzuke). Cute restaurant in Covina. The chicken katsu curry was juicy and crispy and the portion was large. Medium spicy has a bit of kick if you're sensitive to spice. Tonkatsu katsu curry was little drier but still good. You order everything on a tablet and the server confirmed our order. The food came out pretty quickly and our server was attentive to our drink refill needs. My only complaint is that there was a fee for extra pickled veggies (the red one). read more

I recently visited The Chubby Curry, which opened in the former location of Bishamon--a Japanese restaurant I absolutely loved and deeply miss. I came here with a group for a colleague's birthday, and while there were some positives, my overall experience was underwhelming. First, the good: the staff was incredibly accommodating and gave us a private room upstairs for our celebration, which was a nice touch. The ambiance was pleasant, and everything looked clean and well-maintained. Our server was very kind and attentive, going out of their way to try and improve our experience. Now, the not-so-good: the food just wasn't for me. I ordered the Katsu Curry, which was around $25, and added sides like broccoli, mushrooms, fries, dumplings, and more. While the presentation was nice, nothing really stood out flavor-wise. For the price, I was expecting a lot more in terms of quality and taste. I also requested the hottest spice level for my curry, but it was disappointingly mild. To their credit, the server brought me a sauce from the back that added some much-needed heat, but even with that, the dish didn't live up to my expectations. While I think curry lovers might still enjoy this place, I found it overpriced and the food mediocre overall. Sadly, I don't think I'll be visiting again, but I'd still encourage others to give it a try and decide for themselves. read more

I went here to celebrate my birthday and they said it would take 15 minutes. We ended up waiting 30 minutes. There was a table already set to be clean but they didn't clean until we came in. I had to give stare to one of the waiter that was waiting us. When getting the dishes, everything was out of order and my step dad didn't have his meal out way after the fact of both me and my mom were done eating. He only had a salad that we ordered. I didn't have my beverage way later and was already almost done with my meal. The guy waiter kept looking at our table and never checked on us after we said something. Although there were tables with customers, it was not packed. I also saw a couple that were waiting. I don't want to assume the worst but I also believe that because of the color of skin, my family wasn't waited because of this. I hope this was only an assumption and I am incorrect. We were offered cake and received 10% off. I still am unpleased with this service and hope they can take action on diversity and inclusion and provide the best quality service to all people. Going to this restaurant and freshly moved to this area left a bad impression of this place and want to push people to come in here for great food but if there a broken agenda then I cannot recommend. read more

A Fantastic New Curry Spot by Chubby Group in Covina! Chubby Group has done it again, adding another standout spot to their lineup of restaurants. We had the pleasure of attending the soft opening tonight, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. Though the restaurant is cozy, there's actually additional seating on the second floor, which is a nice surprise. They also offer a sushi bar area where you can watch the chef in action, adding a unique experience for sushi fans. We tried several popular dishes, and each one impressed us. The Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl was a personal favorite, packed with rich flavors and perfectly cooked meat. A close second was their curry udon - incredibly comforting and flavorful. And the Chicken Katsu Kare was a pleasant surprise - the thick chicken breast was impressively juicy and tender, something that's often hard to achieve with katsu. We're excited to return and explore more of the menu soon. After seating us they showed us how to order from a tablet. The food is described along with a picture. You pick your items and send it to the kitchen and the food comes out a lot faster than most restaurants. I had Chubby Curry wagyu beef plate with tri-tip. The slow-cooked mild curry beef just melted in your mouth so tender and came with rice and a soft egg. My wife and I shared a house salad, slaw with tomatoes, radish and cucumber. My wife had the Wagyu steak rice plate. Same slow cooked beef so tender with her choosing spicier curry. This meal was such a delight, all 5's start to finish. read more
