My whole family's ABSOLUTE favorite place to eat in town! ALL food is awesome, however, our favorites are the tuna pita, Italian beef, Athenian chicken pita and gyros sandwich! Everything is pretty good. Gyro is solid. Nothing amazing but a solid hot dog joint with a comfortable dining room and a drive through. A little steep, but I can tell they have a lot of overhead. This is a local favorite. The food is excellent. It is always very clean when you eat inside, they also make sure you are served fast. Also, the orders are always correct. Only complaint is when they are busy (which seems to be often lately) the drive thru wait can be a little long. We will be back. Saturday, I ordered ribs for Mothers Day! I called Sunday morning when they opened to order two more slabs of ribs. The staff had everything cooked, wrapped and ready to go at 12:30. 1st time trying this restaurant, we had the gyros and chicken gyros. Very good food, I called in my order and only waited a few min when I got there to pick up the food. Very nice restaurant inside, nicely decorated, and clean, it doesn't look like a typical fast food spot. I was reading some of the other reviews that said the food was bland. That is so not the case, if they meant the food didn't have 10 times the salt that we shouldn't have then yes. It was great not eating food with a ton of salt that will give you a headache. I hadn't eaten a gyros in like 10 years because I don't like greasy, salty food. But because my kids ordered I wanted to join them. But very nice, we'll be back again. read more

Poor experience with customer service from the male owner. I placed an order by phone and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. Based on a past experience I knew to give them a little more time since they don't adhere to their own time frame. I arrived 20 minutes after placing the order and found that my food still wasn't ready. I looked around and only saw customers at two tables and it was off peak hours. I commented to the owner at the register that I placed the order 20 minutes before and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. He didn't offer any apology, instead he said "Do you want cold fries?". I'm not sure who would want cold fries and was surprised at his response. Most restaurants make fries all day, as such, they're ready to be served on demand. The owner then explained that the fries are only cooked once you show up to claim your order. I commented that there was no benefit to ordering in advance if part of the order is only getting started on after you arrive to pick it up. The owners response was "Next time you place your order by phone just tell them you like cold fries and we'll cook them right away so you can pick them up". I find that type of comment to be really arrogant considering I've not had that type of response from restaurant staff before. In conclusion, the chicken sandwich and fries are a 3 out of 5, service gets negative points. Won't be going back and if any of you do go, I hope you have a pleasant experience. read more

I love this place! We drive through all the time and I love to dine in with my daughter. It's always clean and the service is excellent. It's hard to explain how they do it but I always feel like it's a homey family business. They are also the only place that gets the beef order right compared to other places in Algonquin and Elgin and even Buona! My favorite thing is to dine in and get one of the specials. read more

Great food. Been there twice now and so far I've tried the gyro, chili dog, and hot dog. My husband loved the pizza pocket. Everything tasted wonderful and Chicago style deliciousness. Reminds me of being back home near Chicago. It seems family owned and everyone was really nice. I don't understand the other reviews about the blond girl looking like she hated being there. Horrible overpriced place. I ordered food for myself and children and when our food arrived there was hair in my sons food. When I went to go complain to the women with black hair, which I assume is one of the owners, she lacked management skills. She was completely rude to me and did not care what I had to say about receiving our food this way. I highly suggest to spend your money elsewhere!!! read more

Out of convenience we've gone back several times and the service is much better. We haven't been shorted food at the drive through again. The food is average and the woman who apparently owns the place isn't always too friendly, but we go back for convenience every once in a while. read more

I was so nervous eating here based on the 2 star reviews. The food was delicious. You have to try the lemon, olive oil potatoes. I had a chicken gyro (will try regular next time) and the potatoes. Between friends and family we've taken to Chubby's as well as ourselves we've been a part of probably a dozen to 2 dozen meals here. I've always been very satisfied and so have the friends and family. The food is very good, the service is reasonably quick for a "cook upon ordering" restaurant and the service has been excellent. Their Italian Beef used to be halfway decent, but they must have changed supplier's or something as now it's very tough and has big hunks of gristle. This place is fabulous. The staff is accommodating, and while you may wait a bit longer for your order than a typical fast food joint, it is because all the food is prepared fresh. We recently moved from California and have been looking for a THE Burger place to go to. At first I tried their gyros and those were delicious so my next trip I tried the burger. The lady that owns this place is horrible!! I felt like I was a pain in her ass for setting foot in her restaurant! I was the only person in the place waiting for my carry out and was absolutely disgusted by how she treated and spoke to her kids and husband. Based on that alone I do not understand how they are still in business. My kids school does a fund raiser every year at chubbys and I refuse to take part in it. I wish nothing more than for small businesses in Algonquin to do well and grown but I refuse to support anyone or any business that is so disrespectful and unkind to their family and customers. Ordered a Chicken Philly and it lacked the chicken, instead they over compensated with vegetables. When I called to tell them, they insisted my sandwich had plenty of chicken and disputed what I told them. Again, when I tried to explain, I was told that was impossible. If they're not going to listen to me as a customer, then they're pretty much calling me a liar. Their response was to get back in my car or they'd credit me extra chicken when I came in next time. How do you even credit someone for part of a sandwich?? Exactly what does that even mean?? I said to the guy, I did not want to have to get back into my car to prove to them what I was telling him since I was already home. I said sarcastically, if I should take a picture to prove what I was saying since obviously they didn't believe me and his response was "Yes, if that's what I need to do to prove my point." Need I mention, this was not the owner I was taking to, she was in the background telling her employee what to say. The lady owner is very rude and since it's her business, she should've taken the call instead of telling her employee what to say!! My sandwich ended up in the garbage, it didn't even taste as it has in the past. Food is either amazing or lacking. To order out is a treat and it ended up a complete waste of my money and a big disappointment. This is the first time writing a review. I guess I should start out saying that I live in the Fox Lake area and was visiting family in Algonquin on Sat, the 16th. My cousin and his wife had allways raved about Chubby's. They brought their kids there often as well as told many of their friends about it, so we decided to get some dinner there about 6:30 that evening. I imediatley looked at the special board and saw the Tuna melt combo. Kinda had a taste for it all day. There were three of us and we all placed our orders and sat down at a table. The owners wife brought our food and durring conversation at our table, i ate all my fries,( witch were good) then turned my sandwich around to find that my Tuna melt was actually tuna salad' in a pita, with a cold piece of cheese and alot of lettuce. I'd never had it like that before and wanted it on bread, or a bun, or something. I brought it back to the counter and explained to the owners wife that I saw it on the special board and did not realize that it was served like that, and asked her if they could please put it on bread or a bun? On a side note, I would like to say that I also deal with custmers in my line of work, and I have ALLWAYS believed that you treat people the way you want to be treated. Everyone has a job to do and we all like getting treated with a little respect. With that being said, when I asked her about the sandwich, she took it, while not saying a word, and just stood there with the snottiest look on her face. I didnt think I was asking that much, and the look really bothered me. I told her " You know what, I dont apreciate the look, just keep it, I dont even want it anymore" When I returned to the table and told everyone what happened, they were appalled. about 2 minutes later, the owners wife came to the table and (with the same snotty look) asked my what i wanted it on. I told her I didnt want it anymore, and she asked me repeatdly with me giveing her the same responce. She then asked what I expected her to do with it. I told her I had already paid for it so she could throw it away if she wanted. When we left, I explaind the the womans husband ( the owners) about the situation. He said he was sorry and that maybe she was having a bad day. never once did he off my money back or a gift cert to try to keep our business. At the very least, he was alot nicer to talk to. I know this was a long story and I thank anyone,( if anyone) who reads it. Its sad to say but they will never get my business again. My family has also said they will not return, ( as they were there to witness the extremely poor cust serv.) It really is a shame, because there arent a whole lot of smaller restaurants left anymore. everything is a chain, but I will not spend my money, nor waste my time at a place where I am disrespected. Not your typical fast-food place, it is slightly pricey, but well worth it. The new location is easy to get to and there is ample parking. The interior is nice - plenty of table space to sit and enjoy a meal in a relatively quiet location (compared to McDonalds). The food is really first-rate, the salads that I've ordered always seem to be clean, freshly prepared with crisp produce, nothing is soggy. The half-chicken meals are great, the coleslaw is tasty. The best thing I noticed is that the kitchen / front counter area seems to be much cleaner than most restaurants I've been in. Kudos(!). read more
