Everything you should expect from a traditional breakfast/lunch diner. From sitting at the counter on barstools watching the grill cooks prepare the food to the waitress calling you honey. Quick service, good food, and endless cups of coffee. Took one star away because they don't have gluten-free toast . (I know, I know... what traditional diner would have gluten-free toast)

We ate lunch here upon the suggestion of our kayak tour guide. He said they had the best burgers on the island. I don't know if they are, but they were very good. The place is a diner and VERY small. However, we got a table as soon as we walked in. It was warm inside and cramped, but the service was friendly and quick. The guy in charge, possibly the owner, had a Bengals hat on and we immediately said "Who Dey" because we live in Cincinnati. He responded the same so I felt we had a little bond with the place. I had the Who Dey burger, which was a burger cooked on the flattop with pulled pork, onion rings, slaw, and a sweet sauce. It was very messy but yummy. My wife had the Blue Cheese burger and enjoyed every last bite. Their fries are non-traditional because they are cut in rounds on a spiralizer. They were excellent.

Service was spectacular. Food came out fast and staff were friendly. Burgers were pretty solid - can't complain. Fries were definitely worth the $4 up charge and the best part of the meal. Was hoping they had the Who Dey burger but probably out of ingredients since the season is almost over.

Really solid burger at a shocking price. $14 for a plain cheeseburger, + 70c for every extra add, so we thought we might as well order a special with toppings and condiments for closer to $16-17. Rattlesnake and olive burgers were both fantastic, but on the smaller side and served with basic Lays chips. We couldn't justify adding fries for $4 each. The Chuckwagon might be a better spot for breakfast - or just might be another case of Mackinac sticker shock.

Love love the Chuck Wagon! We eat here every time we are on the island. The staff are friendly and so very efficient. The food is good and the prices , while island prices, are fair. I had the cheeseburger and my husband had the Aloha Burger, mine was good his was amazing! It was $19.00 for the specialty Aloha burger and an up charge of $4 for fries.

Our family had a great meal at The Chuckwagon. We were able to score four seats at the counter where we could see all the action. The food was super fast and it was a great meal. I'm pretty picky with my burgers but this one was well seasoned and juicy. John (Owner? & Grill-master) came over at the end of our meal and started a conversation with our kids (ages 6&9) and they really hit it off. This lunch was the highlight of our day trip to Mackinac Island.

Great burgers! I tried the PB & J burger- don't let the habanero jelly scare you, it was very low heat and just a FANTASTIC flavor. The peanut butter was very subtle and it all came together to make just a delicious burger. My husband got your classic cheese burger and rated is a solid burger that he would eat again. We upgraded to fries and they were thin, not too salty and just great. The restaurant is pretty small with some seats along the wall, a few tables in the very back and some bar seating.

I'll say it...it's overhyped. Great price, but it's super basic food for what you get. I got the ham omelette with toast. The omelette was basic with the ham. The ham was incredibly salty. Cheese slices were processed cheese. The toast didn't taste fresh or good for that matter. Glad we tried it, but definitely not coming back for breakfast

The BEST burger EVER!!! We had to stop twice this trip. Can never have too many burgers. This time we tried the fries and we will be getting them again! Wooo can't say enough good things. There is a line out the door for a reason!

In the span of 2 days on Mackinaw Island, we came to eat here 3 times (two times for lunch and once for breakfast)! The absolute best spot on the island for an affordable, consistently good meal. There's usually a short line out the door at peak times, but do not be intimidated as it moves faster than you would think! This is because the cooks move incredibly fast and it feels like the food is often ready within 10-15 mins of ordering. I recommend the cheeseburger deluxe with all of the extra toppings! Please note that the chuckwagon burger does not have cheese on top, so you have to specifically order the cheeseburger if you want that as a topping.

Best Black Bean Burger of my life! Didn't hurt that it was on a pretzel bun. Small diner to cram into. I placed an order to go so I could eat outside and take in the view. You can even use Yelp on Mackinac Island :) Chuckwagon was the most highly rated restaurant, and it was spot-on. It is SMALL so be prepared to wait. The staff couldn't have been nicer although ... I would probably be a lot nicer of a person if I worked on Mackinac Island! The burgers were very different... I got the blue cheese with their signature sauce and it was awesome. They are not round burgers or particularly thick, they're not greasy but I don't know how to describe them. They are delicious, plain and simple. And insanely cheap. For two burgers, two fries and two pops (yes, I'm from the midwest) it was under 20 bucks. Sccccoooore. read more

What a find! The Chuckwagon was so good and very reasonable. It's tiny but jammed with happy customers. Watching the talented staff was like watching a well-choreographed dance. Fastest service ever! I am pretty sure they read our minds and were making the burgers as we sat down because they arrived at our table in what seemed like 5 minutes after we ordered. The burgers were perfect. I had the rodeo with pepper jack cheese (melted just right), crispy bacon, grilled onions and BBQ. It came on a yummy grilled pretzel bun. Don't pass up this little gem when on Mackinac. Also, don't trust the map, it showed it about a block from where it actually was. read more

The burgers are amazing here. Many said they waited in line, but we were able to walk right in. (Might have been the 50 degree gray day.) They were full but we found one two top and were waited on quickly. Our cheeseburgers arrived promptly and were delicious! Hand pressed and juicy, cooked to perfection. Highly recommend! read more

Fantastic! This 1950's style diner serves burgers and sandwiches. It is usually packed, but worth the wait. Sandwiches are about $8-9 a piece, which sure beats the $15 lunches down the street. We stumbled across this place walking down the Main Street. We didn't wait long after we ordered either. Very good and highly recommended. read more

Had the bleu cheese burger and my girlfriend had the gringo- both were excellent and quickly prepared. Within ordering it was only a matter of about 5 minutes before our food was in front of us. There really isn't a single great restaurant that has stood out on mackinac island- they are all good and pretty much serve the same items. The chuckwagon is small so I can imagine there is a wait in the summer time. read more

The place is tiny, blink and you'll walk right past it. The food was good for the prices, but still mediocre. The sodas only get 1 refill, so drink slowly. You'll want to drink slowly anyways because even with such a small place, it may be a while until your server makes it back. read more

A great first impression! We were greeted at the door by a friendly owner-with a million dollar smile- who immediately directed us to a cozy corner booth in the rear this bustling hot spot. Stopped for lunch on a July weekday after wanting to eat here for years. Don't let the line scare you. It moves fast and they keep the grill filled with burgers so our order took less than 10 minutes. Burgers and fries were fabulous, plentiful and affordable. Would go here again! read more

This place has one of the best burgers in town. With hand crafted fresh burgers and good old simple fries this place is a MUST eatery on the island. The only downside is that the place is a bit narrow and has little room to move, but the food is well worth it (Particularity the Rodeo and Blu cheese burger). read more

Just came back from a vaca on the island. Every morning our family went here. The kitchen and atmosphere is sort of crazy, but good crazy. The signs hanging around the restaurant are the icing on the cake--or should I say the syrup on the pancakes. Breakfast is great, ending at the later hours of 11:30 am. They close briefly before opening back up for lunch, then done after. I wish they could be open for dinner, so I could go for all three meals! read more

Ate breakfast there the 2 mornings we were on the island. Split the Big Breakfast , it was more than enough for two. Seating was interesting, remember, there are people waiting to sit, don't lounge all day. Staff was great, kept my coffee full and always had a smile. Hope to see them all again soon! read more

Found this place on Yelp while planning our summer vacation a few months back. Noticed that they had very reasonable prices which I wasn't expecting on Mackinaw Island. Very good quality. I haven't liked any of the pretzel burger buns in the past but Chuckwagon's were very good. More like an actual bun than a soft pretzel. Fresh beef. It was busy and very cramped but we timed it just right as a group of people all stood up from the counter just a minute or two after we walked in the door. I like the down home atmosphere. It was great they are so professional and fast working. You can tell they are all on the same page with making sure to deliver the best service to their customers! Great little joint right on Main Street. Don't blink or you might miss it but miss it you should not. I hear they have the best breakfast on the island but we didn't make it til lunch. All the orders coming off the grilled looked delicious. They burgers though are amazing. I had the BBQ Bacon Burger ... good stuff. One of the secrets to a great burger is the bun. They have their own pretzel bun and it's great. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. read more

I had to look at my photos in order to remember our meal. That's not to say it was bad. Not at all! Just that the only thing I remember is that the prices are slightly higher than I think they should be. (Although, that seems to be the case at every restaurant on Mackinac Island. They have you trapped, and they know it.) We started with the smoked whitefish dip, which is a popular thing in this part of Michigan. I love me a good meatloaf sandwich, so when I saw meatloaf sliders in the menu, I had to get them. These sliders are made with pretzel buns, which are not my favorite because I feel like they're never soft enough. A nice white bun would have been so much better. I got a side Caesar salad, and it was fine. We also ordered a chicken tenders basket, the Low Carb Platter (just a cheeseburger without a bun and a side of cottage cheese), and a kids' cheeseburger. They do have a kids menu here -- just ask. Millie's gets very busy! We had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table. But it's centrally located in the middle of downtown Mackinac, so I wouldn't expect anything less.

To be fair, since it's on Mackinac Island, you're going to travel an hour just to get here anyway. But yeah, if I lived anywhere in the area I'd plan a night around coming here. The three things I look for in a brewery are an inviting outdoor space, accessibility to some good grub, and (of course) some quality beers. Big bonus if a place is dog friendly. Great Turtle easily accomplishes all three. Our waitress was great - they were fairly busy but she was super friendly and made sure we were taken care of without being up-in-your-face. The lunches we enjoyed were tasty and filling. We actually came here twice on the same day. The first time we got the 12-sample flight of all their beers. We then left for a walk around the town. After an hour of talking about Great Turtle we decided to go back for lunch and a pint of our favorite beer from the flight. Very rare for us to repeat a place, especially on the same day! Next time we venture into Northern Michigan I'll try to convince Mama to go back again, get a room nearby, and spend more time without the concern of driving later on. I love me a good meatloaf sandwich, so when I saw meatloaf sliders in the menu, I had to get them. These sliders are made with pretzel buns, which are not my favorite because I feel like they're never soft enough. A nice white bun would have been so much better. I got a side Caesar salad, and it was fine. We also ordered a chicken tenders basket, the Low Carb Platter (just a cheeseburger without a bun and a side of cottage cheese), and a kids' cheeseburger. They do have a kids menu here -- just ask. Millie's gets very busy! We had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table. But it's centrally located in the middle of downtown Mackinac, so I wouldn't expect anything less.

It is a tradition in my family to grab a chuckwagon burger every time we visit the island... we haven't been there in a long time so I was hoping my memory served me right... DONT get me wrong the service was great and the food was decent! But, The seating areas were dirty and the floors were nasty. I get that in a small space it is most likely extremely hard to keep up with the cleaning but Idk it kind of bothered me. Along with this although the food was great my entire family regretted it later. I had worse side effects here from the burgers that were DRIPPING GREASE than a burrito from Taco Bell. I spent so much time in the bathroom after that if you know what I mean... I would definitely go again the food was awesome and I had a good time but maybe I bring something to help with indigestion next time. :( read more
