This place has really cute vibes but I would honestly say the food was mid. We shared the Creamy Vegan Tortilla Soup and Coliflor Fundido. I got the Chulita Breakfast Bowl. The cheese dip was definitely the best item. The soup was not bad but the bowl was just so meh (flavor combos didn't hit).
Ambiance- the outside and interior was really nice, the lighting and fans were also very nice. the fans have a really nice beach wind feel to them. i will say the large seat wall outside is so uncomfortable and i wish they would put cushions - it's also not very comfortable for shorter people because my feet dont touch the ground and allow the back to rest. Service - the server was direct and swift, which i appreciate at times though Food - the menu was pretty small, tacos were good, fish taco was my favorite with a nice light vinaigrette type sauce. the mexican rice wasn't my favorite, tasted like something familiar but not authentic mexican rice. overall 4/5
Sat at the bar since it was so busy on a Saturday night but the food and atmosphere did not disappoint! We had an amazing bartender who gave us plenty of recommendations on food and drinks. Ended up getting the steak tacos which were amazing. There are also many vegan options on the menu! Really enjoyed our experience at Chulita!
My friend and I came here on cinco de mayo, so it was very busy. We managed to get a seat at the bar, which was in large part due to the hostess. Bar seating is first come, first served. Because it was a busy night, it was difficult to order. The bar staff was slammed which is understandable. We ordered the guacamole which came out in minutes. I love the chips that come with it. They're bigger, so you break them apart to eat. We also ordered the tacos, since it was taco Tuesday and cinco. I ordered the barbacoa and tinga tacos. They were messy. Literally juiced flowing down my wrist. But delicious at the same time. I hate messy food, so that was the only unpleasant part. I've come before and had less messy food, so I'll continue coming back to Chulita.

This place is packed even on weekdays though we were able to get seating without prior reservation. I had their roasted cauliflower and mushroom tacos, and they were both very flavorful. Their plant based options are truly a standout, especially for Mexican restaurants .
Great, helpful staff. Love how they source from the farmer's market and use the same ingredients in various ways across the menu. Sweet potato taquitos were amazing. One of my favorite dishes in LA. Gem salad was super fresh. Wish they had an alternative dressing, but the server was super helpful and brought me a plate of options, like vinegars and lime. Tacos were good portions and didn't skimp on the meat. We enjoyed the steak, fish, cauliflower, and cactus tacos. Love how they use nutritional yeast (truly underrated ingredient). Would be great if they had a few more lighter NA drink options, that are light on sugar, like a Topo Chico refresher or spritz. Would also enjoy some crudités to dip with salsa/guac. Super cute, very Westside, laidback LA vibe. Great for a date night or friends in town.
Chulita is a must-visit in Venice! I've been twice now--once for dinner and once for brunch--and while both were amazing, brunch stole the show. The atmosphere and vibe are inviting, and the food quality and presentation are incredibly high-end. It feels fancy and upscale without the crazy prices or pretentious attitude. They have tons of excellent vegan options on the menu, and the drinks are phenomenal. If you want a great meal that is a step above your typical Mexican joint, I'd highly recommend this spot. Can't wait for my next trip!
Been wanting to try Chulita for awhile! Overall great experience would come back and also recommend. Ambiance was great and prices were fair! Ensalada Gemito - 2/5 : would not order again or recommend. Salad dressing had ZERO flavor. We asked for extra on the side and still didn't help. Quality of the ingredients wre great and could be so good if they fixed the dressing. Mushroom taco - 4/5 - corn tortilla Hanger Steak taco - 4/5 - corn tortilla Barbacoa - 4/5 - flour tortilla I'd recommend getting the homemade flour tortillas over the corn. Steak Quesadillas- 5/5 - really good and cheese they use is amazing! Sea Bass - 4/5 Iced latte to go: 5/5 hidden gem for coffee and when you order it to go they put it in a really Nice glass jar that makes it even better!
I dined here with three other friends for dinner and really enjoyed my experience. The service was really great, as the server was accommodating to all our allergies and even brought out extra chips to go with leftover ceviche for me to pack up! We had the coliflor fundido to start, which I am so glad we got, because it was my absolute favorite of the night. I ordered the ceviche for my main and really enjoyed this too. The fish was fresh tasting and the veggies were crunchy and complimented the fish perfectly. As far as the food goes, my biggest regret is not trying the tacos. My friends ordered the barbacoa, nopal, and steak tacos and loved these. Overall, the ambiance is really cozy and beautiful too. It has an indoor outdoor feel, which I can imagine is wonderful when it's warmer, but can be chilly during this time of year. I do wish they had brought out heat lamps to our table but we didn't ask, so that's okay.

I like that they make their own tortillas , we pretty much ordered one tacos of eqch the best ones in my opinion we're barbacoa and steak 10/10. We also ordered a side of red rice , not super authentic but still yummy. I would make reservations or call , it's a small locations with street parking. we ordered the seasonal margarita which was a peach margarita very tasty 10/10.
Wonderful dinner at our last night in Venice for the Winter Break. We had later resy and they were able to accommodate us when we arrived early. Sat in the front patio with heaters. Started with chips, salsa and guac. Loved the whole tortilla chip, break it yourself type thing. We all had drinks mine of course with Mezcal and Hibiscus. The seasonal marg was apricot - delicious! Had the creamy and thick tortilla soup, quesadilla (best one according to our daughter!) which looked more like an enchilada. Had the grilled fish with creamy cauli mash --- so good! Had the hanger steak but wished it was more tender then finished off with churros. Our server was attentive and overall good experience at this cozy with a cool vibe Michelin resto.
First off, the food was amazing, I wish I had a bigger stomach to eat everything off the menu! Even if it was busy we were attended to sweetly and promptly :3 with this heat, a margarita and salad was the best choice, I love how it's an outdoor/indoor vibe. I definitely need to come here at night

We had a great time at Chulita! The food was amazing and the service was great! They have plenty of vegan options and non vegan options to satisfy everyone. I got the cassava flour tortillas for my tacos and they were amazing! Everything was so flavorful. They also had nonalcoholic options which I loved since my some of the people in my party was sober. Such a great place for date night, girls night, or any occasion. read more

The food was AMAZING!! I had the breakfast burrito with Vegan chorizo & it was super filling and flavorful. The flavors were not overbearing. The burrito had black beans, papas, vegan chorizo and cheese. My partner had the steak tacos. Firstly, the steak tacos were plated beautifully... and YES, they tasted just as beautifully. The cut of meat and the cook on it was absolutely wonderful. I had a taste and the steak was juicy and flavorful, all of the flavors married very well! The papas (potatoes) were crispy on the outside and pretty soft on the inside, definitely super easy to eat multiple in one sitting haha... The service was good, waiter forgot to give us napkins, he was otherwise pretty attentive. I definitely recommend stopping by for their food!! All of the flavors married well and were not overpowering. I'm no local to Venice, but I am definitely a San Diego native - lover of Latin food... my belly was quite happy leaving with no digestion issues. read more

I was expecting the food to be really amazing and it was ok. The guacamole IMO needed more lime, jalapeños and maybe some spice (oregano or cilantro)- my guest and I felt it was bland. Tacos were ok, but nothing special. Gem salad was large, shareable and delicious. That said the service was good but they were rushing us the whole time to pick up our plates while we were still enjoying our food (there was no one waiting, a few empty tables). Nice ambiance. Parking was street- was ok to find it. That said- The margaritas and salsa was delicious! But I won't return as for the price it's not worth it and many better places to get Mexican food. read more

Great ambience, fun outdoor seating, and contemporary decor. The food was delicious though not uniformly to my taste. The vegan soup was tasty, the steak tacos were next level: soft corn blue tortillas, tender beef, nice guacamole. The street corn was beautifully prepared but a little too tangy for my taste. I really wish I could recall our servers name from our visit the other week. He was a STAR, making stellar recommendations for first time visitors and repeat guests alike. This is a cute bar / restaurant that serves mainly tequila, mezcal and tacos and the service is QUICK. I tried the mushroom carnitas and it was decent but the chicken was more my style. The cocktails were good, the atmosphere was great and they had some heat lamps to help mitigate that sea breeze. Can't wait to go back and can't wait to try their speakeasy that's supposed to be opening soon. read more
Made reservations over the phone for dinner the day of. The host I spoke to was really helpful and even explained the what seating in the restaurant looked like so I could chose a good table. We ended up miscalculating the amount of people coming for dinner and I wanted to ca in advance to let them know but between 4-5.30 pm no one answer my calls. We decided to just show up and let them know when we got there and they were really accommodating. Our server was very friendly and let us take our time with the menu. Both the food and drinks came out between 5-10 minutes after ordering which I was super happy about. The decor at this restaurant was really really cute too! I loved everything about this place except the food. Some dishes tasted really good and others were just mediocre. I'd expect more for the price but felt let down. I'd be interested in going back to try more dishes to see if I just choose the so-so ones. read more
FIrst things first... save room for churros. They are beyond good. Thin crunchy outside with soft hot inside and a great dip! The Guacamole and Salsa were also excellent. Their "chips" look cool but I'd rather a thinner chip. It would also be nice if the salsa came with the meal. It was not expensive, but ... come on, I expect to pay for guacamole but not salsa. The tacos (cactus, mushroom and steak) were also very good. Drinks we're tasty and didn't have too much ice. Very enjoyable lunch with friendly and cool staff. read more
Chulita has been on my brunch list for a really long time, and when a friend decided to come into town I had the perfect opportunity to check it out. Getting reservations was really easy via Resy, and I was able to snag them a few days in advance. The restaurant itself is located in a great spot, and parking was not an issue. We were seated comfortably outside on the patio, and promptly checked in on. Service was lovely, the waiter came by a few times and the food/ drinks came out quickly. My main beef was with the food. -- Hibiscus Margarita: it was way too strong! Now don't get me wrong, I love a boozy cocktail, but damn, it felt like I was downing straight up gasoline! After a few sips, I couldn't take any more. -- Guacamole: I liked it, the tortilla fashioned into chips was a creative take, and the guacamole was well seasoned. -- Tres Leches Cassava Waffle: there was hardly any tres leches in this! I thought they might drizzle a generous amount given the title, but there was literally maybe a half teaspoon worth of tres leches. There were also edible flowers, which felt a bit too pretentious. The waffle itself was fine, but not out of this world. Overall I just felt a bit let down, and I don't think I'll be a repeat customer. We were in town for vacation and decided to check out this brunch spot, and I can't recommend it enough. Tony was our server and he was amazing with suggestions and telling us about the dishes! The place is super modern with Hispanic influences which I loved. They had great music playing and a beautiful outside patio. My boyfriend got the chilaquiles and I got the breakfast burrito. Both were outstanding and the agua frescas were refreshing. When we're back into town this will definitely be a place we'll return to. read more
Walking in the first thing that drew my attention was the cute decor/ furniture of the restaurant. Bright open airy feeling w hues of blue and pops of pretty colors. We were greeted immediately and sat right away! The margaritas are truly to die for. I got the prickly pear marg and my bf got the passionfruit marg perfect balance of sweet and sour. Absolutely one of my favorite places in LA. I have been coming here for years. I normally like hole in the wall Mexican restaurants but this place is delicious and so beautiful. I love sitting outdoors. Their drinks are my favorite. Normally, a lot of places make them with bunch of artificial syrups that lead to stomachaches, but I drive about 50 mins to come here for their margaritas. read more
Visiting Venice Beach for a few days with my daughter this week, and our hotel recommended Chulita to us. There were a number of other Mexican restaurants in the hood but this by far highly met our expectations! We reserved via Google - FYI reservations are a must here! We had reservations on a Wednesday night at 8pm and decided to arrive a little early - it was packed and LIT! Lol lovely aesthetics, amazing vibe, excellent service, and more importantly very delicious food! We are so returning for brunch before we head back to NYC and can hardly wait! Rose Ave had a number of other lovely restaurants that we were curious about, but Chulita's got us wrapped around her little finger! It has been a minute since we were at Chulita but we still talk about it. Everything about this place was amazing!!! We were hungry, weary travelers from the east coast. It was an odd hour, not quite lunch, not quite dinner. We stumbled on Chulita and were blown away. The food, the drink, the service, the overall vibe were all A+++++. We started with the guacamole and their house made salsa. The guac was creamy and tangy and not overly seasoned as many guacamoles can be. The salsa was salsa, not pico, not chunky, just the perfect puréed combination of tomatoes, onion, citrus and spiciness. Delicious. They were served with crispy, whole, blue corn tortillas. Every time we ran out of tortillas, Zack, our server and host, who was nothing short of delightful, would bring us more. We had the tacos and my son had the bowl. I didn't try the bowl but he said it was amazing and filling. We had great cocktails as well, the Bad Hombre and the La Chulita were perfection, just the right combination of spice, citrus and a hint of sweet. Truly the best. read more

Big fan of Chulita, will definitely be back! *food* we got the guac and chips, chicken tinga (no cheese), barbacoa, and steak tacos. The guac was fire - great portion with blue corn tortilla chips. The chicken tinga tacos and barbacoa were our favorites (the steak was less flavorful). The churros are a MUST! They are vegan and gluten free and you can't tell at all! Lots of dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options! *atmosphere* we had a 6:30 dinner reservation and the place was packed. FOOD/DRINK: Have been here twice so far, and it was consistent each time. All margarita options are fantastic - I like the spicy cucumber one especially. They also have virgin options. Tacos are about the size of an open hand, so 2 is a decent portion if you pair it with appetizers. I appreciated that they had two flavorful vegetarian options - cauliflower al pastor and mushroom carnitas. My boyfriend got the quesadillas, which were OK. Unfortunately, all this food came out lukewarm / cold. The only thing that was hot was the vegan tortilla soup, which was actually the most tasty and well-seasoned of everything I tried. I'd get a bowl of this next time. I'd skip dessert here - the option we chose came out in like 2 minutes and was a slice of a cold pastry. I realize almost all restaurant desserts are pre-made, but give me the illusion that it's something fresh at least! AMBIENCE: Cute, indoor/outdoor vibe. On the smaller side for a restaurant. The tables are closer together, so it's intimate. Street parking. Good for a casual date night or catching up with friends. SERVICE: Good. Love this spot! Ive only done takeout from them so can't speak to the dine-in experience, but the takeout was solid! My biggest issue with takeout food is when you order from a nicer place, the food's not as good once you pack it into boxes, have it sitting out for a little bit, take it home, reheat, etc. Not the case with chulita. Everything we got was still fresh and delicious by the time we ate it. And for the prices, portions are pretty solid. The beach burrito is excellent. At the end of the day, how good a burrito is for me, just depends on the variety of food per bite ratio, and the tortilla. Nailed it on both counts. The guac is great and they give you a generous portion so if you don't wanna add an avocado to your burrito for 3$, protip, order the guac. You'll have plenty to top off the burrito and still plenty for dipping. The esquites corn was DELICIOUS and honestly I was very pleasantly surprised by the vegan chocolate pudding. Disclaimer, I am 0% vegan, but that pudding was great! read more

Big fan of mezcal so this place did not disappoint. Several mezcal cocktails on the menu including la chulita which was a spicy mezcal marg as well as a mezcal negroni. Both were well made and not sweet. Apps and tacos were excellent. We tried the cauliflower queso fundido which was this amazingly cheesy yet not overwhelmingly rich dish. Kind of was a cross between cauliflower, queso and mashed potato texture. Came with shishitos on top which is my favorite. Definitely recommend trying. The guac was also delicious. For tacos I tried the chicken and barbacoa. Both were good but liked the chicken a bit better. Totally personal preference though. All of their tacos sounded great! Lovely outdoor and indoor seating areas. Friendly and attentive service. Thank you! read more

Yes mostly the entire menu except for the prickly pear cheesecake is gluten free for dinner. The tostadas are corn and the guacamole is avocado, tomato, onion, lime juice, and jalapeño.
Are pets allowed? I'd like to bring my dog who will probably be asleep the entire time!
