We've been fans of Church Street Pizza for many years -- Friday night pizza is practically a ritual in our house. The pizza is consistently delicious, and it's something we genuinely look forward to every week. My son's favorite is their bacon and pineapple pizza -- and I have to say, it's honestly a brilliant combo that's even better than a traditional Hawaiian. Tonight we ordered our usual through a delivery app. It was a long delivery time, but it's a popular spot and a Friday night, so that was completely expected. Unfortunately, the wrong pizzas arrived. We were disappointed (and very hungry!), so we ended up eating a couple of slices even though it wasn't a combo we would normally choose. I called Church Street Pizza to let them know what happened. While they couldn't resolve the issue directly through the app, they immediately offered to remake our order for pickup. When I mentioned we had eaten a few slices, they were gracious and kind about it. We brought back one of the pizzas, they gave us our correct order fresh, and even wrote us a note for a free pizza. On the ride home, my son and I were talking about how much we love this place -- not just for the food, but for how they treated us when they truly didn't have to. How could I not give Church St / Lombardi's pizza five stars? It's some of the best pizza in Northern Virginia. Surviving a move to a location in desperate need of signage, plus the pandemic, this jewel of Vienna survives. Unfortunately they don't sell individual slices anymore, it's just one size. On the plus side they have a great dining room and ample parking. Beverages are bottled coke products, gone is the fountain and booths. The pizza is New York thin crust excellent. Great undercarriage. Little grease draining off with pepperoni and sausage. The sausage is fairly salty though. It's hard to fall, it's a good place for pizza. The taste is not what I remembered, it's been a while since I've been here, but it's good pizza. One major change: Signage. Something outside that points the way, and a drink menu inside. If they are going to have a dining area, fill it out a little. Encourage people to eat instead of just takeout. read more

Looking for a replacement to our weekly pizza night and wanting our money to stay local rather than stuff a rich guy's pocket more, we tried out Church Street Pizza. My wife, a native of Manhattan, is of course very picky when it comes to a proper NY-style pizza and was naturally suspicious of my proposal here. So was I, to be honest. And we were both right to be. Ordering was easy enough, I opted to call in rather than make yet another website login. Pizza was ready on time as promised, and the staff was friendly. Pickup, however, apparently broke a major rule for a pizza place -- you must be able to see them making the pie, according to my wife. Our go-to toppings are a somewhat unconventional combination -- pepperoni and broccoli. I was pleased that fresh broccoli was an option! On returning home the pizza had cooled substantially even though we're only 5 minutes, so I reheated it in the event. The crust softened on reheating but quickly cooled into a firm cardboard-like substance to near-inedibility. The cheese and sauce were fine. Pepperoni was basic. The broccoli was fresh and crisp -- a win! Tiramisu for dessert can hardly be called that. For some reason it was partially frozen, and tasted so artificial it was in edible. Like cool whip slathered on a soft cake and dusted with a lifeless cocoa powder. Cannoli adorned with a neon-colored maraschino cherry? Why? No. I really wanted it to be good, but no. The pizza tastes different than I remember. The crust and dough tastes breadier and might be because they toss it in more flour. It is less oily because I remember the pizza boxes and plates would be stained from the grease which doesn't seem to happen anymore. Perhaps they're using less cheese and not baking the pizzas as long? (When cheese overheats the fat separates) I've always loved the sliced sausage here. I do think the toppings are the strong point here over any chain spot. I think if you end up getting the 1 topping deal then it's a fair price. I used to think very highly of Church St Pizza and I know Lombardi's is essentially the same... it doesn't exactly taste the same for some reason to me. read more

I recently called upon Church Street Pizza to fulfill our pizza cravings among Coronavirus times. Pandemic or not, this is some good pizza! Thin crispy crust, marinated mushrooms, pepperoni..it was the type of pizza that makes you say TGIF. It's a family-owned Vienna shop and they donate a portion of every pizza to a local charity. I'm a fan! I called my order ahead and was able to pick up 45 minutes later. Ordered a pizza for carry out (since they don't deliver) and it said 40 minutes until it was ready. Super long but ok, I can deal with that. I get there right at the 40 minute mark and they tell me it will be 5 more minutes. 20 minutes later, my pizzas are ready. This isn't a one off thing. This place is a mess. I love this place! For $1.75 a slice + extra for toppings, Church Street Pizza is a great local find. When I ordered, I found it kind of interesting that they added the toppings on cheese pizza that was already ready and then popped it into the oven again. It makes sense, I'm just used to ordering already ready and pre-topped slices or made to order slices. This was kind of an in-between. The quality I think is really good, it was a great almost-NY like slice. Great flavor, great flop. Is this some artisan pizza? I did stop Yesterday for the Large Pizza with sausage, black olives, garlic, onions, bacon it was good but not the best in the world. Cost with VA tax $23.60 Base on my information as a Restaurant and Food expert 70% of the pizza taste from International Pizza Competition in Lion France come from quality of the pizza dough. You have to use only unbleached flour a Monsanto roundup glyphosate which is know cause cancer and autism for kids. I will switch to original smoked Polish Sausage not the one from Giant just using Polish sausage name. Original is made with some herbs and garlic and special smoking process using juniper in the last 5 min of the smoking. In general I am happy and I have to say Church Street Pizza in Vienna is above any large chain pizza stores. read more

It's nice to have an independent pizza place that actually has quality pizza in your neighborhood. I've wanted to try Church St Pizza for awhile but did not get the chance until today. It's really good NY style pizza that reminds me of Lucianos at Tysons (RIP). I got a single pepperoni slice for a decent price. Not too greasy, cheese tasted great, crust was perfect. This is a very nice and very simple pizza place! I had one slice of cheese pizza and one slice of pepperoni pizza, which were both good, but I think that the cheese could have been more tasteful. I also think that they should bring in a recycling bin for recyclable items, like plastic soda bottles and plastic carry out containers. Other than that, all was good! I am very picky with pizza, I always try a cheese pizza to see if a place is good. We ordered few cheese slices, I had the worker get a fresher slices to warm up. Cheese slice was at a great price of $2.10. Overall, I was not that impressed. I could not taste the cheese and wish there was more sauce as I could hardly taste the sauce. Finally was able to try this place. Give the service a 5 and the pizza a 3. Cool lil cozy spot tucked behind a small building. The lady who was there was such a sweet heart and the cashier laid back. Everyone has different taste in what they like. The biggest issue I see at most pizza places is the lack of sauce these days and not enough fermentation in the dough. Just left the restaurant without getting our pizza or a refund. To be fair, we were so confused/unsure what to do we didn't ask for a refund. Took a while to find the place since the signage is poor but we walked around a bit and got there. No sign on the building is wierd though theyve been open a while. We walk in and it's empty, maybe a sign or maybe it's meant to be more of a takeout joint? We order at counter and I start to notice a terrible smell and how hot it is inside. We take a table and the smell is worse at that end and I'm sweating now it's so hot. We play a quick phone game while I wonder about the smell and why it's so hot. Then the host brings our drinks which are marginally cold cokes in bottles, no ice. Disappointment but oh well. Then I made the mistake of looking up. Spiders and spider webs full of eggs sacs all over the ceiling and wall. I don't mean a stray web or two. I mean everywhere and full of spiders and eggs. We were sitting right under them so we jumped up and said we had somewhere to be and left. If that's what we can see and the place smells bad what is the kitchen like?!? What's in the walls and in the back that we can't see? I'm amazed it's still open. Wish I'd had the prescence of mind to ask for my money back. I was just so surprised and uncomfortable I panicked. The appearance of the pizza here makes you think its New York style (and it looks like it too). Customer service was terrific and the prices are great (2 slices and a drink for $4), but after that the positives stop. The pizza was undercooked, but it was edible. It was too flimsy, the dough did not appear to be crisp, but the cheese was definitely cooked all the way through. I thought about going back and asking for different slices, but I saw that the rest of the slices looked very similar to the ones I had, so I backed down. They had a TV which helped me stay a bit longer, and the cashier was friendly and so was the owner, however the the pizza is a solid 3/5 (maybe 2.5), which is unimpressive. I have yet to really find a good pizza place in Northern Virginia that's not chain. It's very frustrating. They also offer "House Favorite" pizza's like Greek, Meat Lovers...etc. The pizza comes out so crispy and the crust is fantastic. I didn't notice the "rude" staff as some of the Yelpers mentioned in their reviews. In fact, the girl working was a little TOO happy! Maybe they are reading your reviews! Pizza is great here but the salads have gone downhill. The house salad lettuce is all white romaine, the tomatoes are mushy and there's barely any green peppers in it. The salads used to be a lot better with fresher ingredients about 2 years ago. I'm not sure why they changed but I won't be ordering any salads anymore. Felt like pizza while driving through Vienna at lunchtime got me over to Church Street Pizza. If I had known the pizza would be so greasy, I would have kept on going. Pizza is supposed to be gooey, maybe a little greasy since I did get pepperoni, but not like this. When I got home grease had soaked through the box, the paper towels I had put underneath and ended up having to transfer to paper plates and wipe off the grease that was literally dripping off the pizza! Totally gross! I'm not sure what happened to this pizza place. It used to be great, hence the reason I automatically thought about it for lunch when driving through town. The only thing good about it, was it was cheap and they were super quick getting me in and out. Won't be back anytime soon. I should have gone to Herndon where there are three excellent pizza places that are all where I expected Church Street to be, but wasn't in any way, shape or form. When you have to keep an eye on your carb intake, it's disappointing to eat pizza that wasted your carb count for the day. Recommend going elsewhere. Don't recommend a visit.
