My fiance and I quickly visited (stopover from Seattle) the mall, and we directly navigated here. The variety of options are great - in terms of flavours, churnt Creamery definitely caters more to the Asian palate (taro, durian, ube, matcha flavours), but I'm all for it! You can easily find this place in The Shops at Santa Anita, centered in the food court. It's easy to find from the parking garage - just go straight down the escalators to the food court - and bam, it's right in the middle (you literally cannot miss it if you tried) The service here is friendly, polite, and serves up generous samples (and scoops) with a smile! My fiance and I both sampled two flavours each, and ended up ordering a single scoop each. They actually made a call to verify there weren't peanuts - talk about going above and beyond (there weren't any obvious signs of peanuts, but the folks working there were not 100 percent sure)! I felt very happy with my choice and they were helpful all the way through! The ambiance is definitely chill - no loud music, no obnoxious signage, no telltale marketing. Just pure, simple, tasty ice cream. Oh also - they have free lactaid - a very useful thing to have in case you are lactose intolerant! Verdict: definitely a place to go. The Oreo in the Matcha Oreo is just crumbs and adds no texture and not much flavor since the matcha flavor really stood out. There are just one or two people working anytime I visit but it moves quickly as it's just an ice cream stop. I like the creativeness of the flavors but I haven't quite found a flavor I love yet based on the ones that I've tried. My usual is their affogato with vanilla and cocoa powder. It's great that they make their waffle cones fresh but there is always a hole at the bottom, so despite how quickly you attempt to eat your ice cream, it will inevitably make a mess when it leaks out on you, so be careful if you're wearing your fancy pants! A plus that they offer complimentary Kirkland Lactase pills! A negative that they don't offer any dairy-free desserts. My husband isn't lactose-intolerant at all. He just can't have any dairy because it causes massive inflammation with his arthritis, so being able to have something while the rest of us enjoy our dairy laden goodies would be nice. read more

The Matcha Oreo was packed with Oreos in every bite with a moderate Matcha flavor. The Ube Brownie had some ube cake mixed in. It wasn't that noticeable or add much to the flavor. The portion sizes were generous. I ordered a double scoop but a single scoop could have satisfied my sweet tooth. Parking: The business is a kiosk in the food court of the Shops at Santa Anita shopping center. Parking is plentiful for the overall complex but can be tight depending on the wing. Park near food court or Forever 21 for closest distance. Park near JCPenney if parking is tight. Verdict: Overall, I liked Churnt Creamery a lot. We visited during the grand opening weekend and will definitely come back. The owner was so nice to give us various samples of the ice cream. All their ice cream flavors are Asian taste inspired like ube, matcha and even durian if that's your thing! We finally decided on the taro blueberry crumble which tasted like a really good pie, and the guava cheese roll that tasted just like Porto's yum! Both flavors were "not too sweet" which is the best compliment for Asian desserts. The cone is made fresh and it's still warm when they hand you your ice cream. I have been meaning to try churnt everytime I am at the mall. I was finally able to try it today and it did not disappoint. The man who was working was very kind and eager to offer us samples. I tried the banana pudding and the spring berries. Both were delicious, I went with banana pudding because I'm a sucker for anything banana. The stand it self was very cute and well maintained. You even get one free topping, which was so nice because most places you pay extra. The ice cream was a good size portion and had plenty of whip cream. The ice cream was thick and rich. I loved that the banana taste was real, often with banana flavored things it can taste too artificial. I definitely will be coming back with friends. 10/10 recommend!!! read more

It's not so hidden as it is located at Santa Anita Mall, but every flavor they carry is so unique and delicious! I would have never thought of some of the combinations they do.
